I never received any kind of engagement letter outlining fees, etc. After putting in a ton of time and effort to get my S-corp set up, the CPA's assistant never ran payroll because she ran into an issue with my bank but never informed me. When I learned of this, she told me that she was very busy because it was tax season and said "Sweetie, if it was that stressful to you, you could have just done it yourself". By not running payroll, they caused me to be behind in submitting a W-2 to get an employer medical insurance plan which means that I will have to pay over $700 for another month of my individual plan. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

I was sold: "Based on what I gathered from you and your home, I imagine the design of your space would fall somewhere in the realm of warm contemporary, comfy, understated but a touch swanky, masculine, PNW natural / rustic. Neutral and subdued colors, varied natural textures, layered and homey, soulful. Furnished with timeless and quality elements that could work in future homes too." Gwen has executed on the vision perfectly all the while taking my feedback and taste into consideration. Gwen selected furniture, carpets, lighting, art, plants, and décor for my office, living room, bonus room, master bedroom, kitchen, outdoor patio, and hallways. She helped me accessorize my kitchen with all new cookware, knives, silverware, gadgets, etc. Saying that Gwen selected all of these items does not do justice to her work. The pieces selected were of the highest quality. Quality observable to the eye and to the touch. Most the pieces selected are themselves a work of art that give me joy just to look at daily. Some of the pieces were custom made to be the perfect fit for the space. Gwen found the craftspeople and helped design these custom pieces. Gwen was a consummate professional throughout the entire process. She did all the coordination of ordering and deliveries. Gwen found electricians to install the lighting and spent all day here making sure that a custom light fixture was installed. Her punctuality is something that I must comment on because when she told me that she would be at my house at a certain time I could set my watch to her arrival. I sincerely appreciated this punctuality because I believe it speaks volumes to how she cares about her clients and her craft. All of this work and sourcing was during COVID shutdowns when lead times on furniture exploded which made the project more difficult. All of the accounting and billing was online and easily accessible. In summary, Gwen designed the spaces in my home in a way that bring a smile to my face ever day. She did all of the work and minimized the amount of effort needed by me. I couldn't be happier with the result.

Used Kyle from 2017-2024 for our tax returns. Nice guy, but if your tax situation is more complex…read morethan a simple W2, look elsewhere. His returns consistently required multiple corrections due to obvious oversights. We had to review everything very carefully before filing. For basic taxes, this was manageable. The relationship ended when we needed help with a business EV tax credit issue. There were numerous details showing Kyle wasn't paying attention and was filing forms blindly without any investigation. His amendments kept getting rejected by the IRS. When I offered to give him power of attorney so he could properly investigate our specific case with the IRS, he refused, saying that wasn't part of his job. His final correspondence was offering to help write an appeal draft to the IRS without providing any details on how he would actually solve the underlying issue or do any due diligence. I'm saving the inner details as they would take too much time to explain, but after months of no progress, we hired another professional who diagnosed the root cause within days. Bottom line: Kyle doesn't do due diligence. Fine for straightforward W2 returns if you're willing to double-check his work. Not recommended for anything requiring investigation or problem-solving. -------------- Update in response to business owner: Kyle claims several things are "misstated" but here are the facts for anyone reading: Regarding purchase structure: Form 15400 from Tesla clearly listed the business name and EIN. I sent Kyle an email explicitly stating the vehicle was purchased for the business. Kyle ignored both the form and my email. When the IRS first rejected our filing, I sent Kyle a screenshot proving I had told him it was purchased under the business name. At that point, Kyle tried to charge me an additional $500 for an amendment, claiming I had "never told him" it was for the business - despite having documentary proof that I had. Regarding "clear path to remedy": Kyle provided no actual solution. He repeatedly blamed Tesla for incorrect filing. Tesla then reviewed Kyle's tax forms and identified multiple errors KYLE had made, providing corrections. Kyle was simply deflecting his own mistakes onto Tesla. He also falsely claimed he had "the exact same problem with other clients." Regarding timeline and IRS processing: The delays were caused entirely by Kyle's errors, not IRS processing. Even after being told he made mistakes, Kyle entered my personal SSN instead of the business EIN on amendment forms. We discovered many other reporting errors after the second IRS rejection. The timeline was driven by Kyle repeatedly filing incorrect forms, not by IRS processing delays. These are facts, not misstatements.

It's a pretty comprehensive return with lots of…read moreschedules, and I've been doing fine with it until my son started working last year, we started contributing to an IRA and 401k for him, college, etc. For the first time in 30+ years, there was a "new thing" to account for. Due to a forced 401k distribution/rollover/tax withholding, etc, I was a little unsure about how to handle it. I had an idea through research on the internet (and multiple LLM conversations), but I wanted to talk to a CPA or Tax person to confirm. I sent out a bunch of requests on Yelp to get quotes for a conversation that I estimated would take no more than 15-30 minutes just to make sure my understanding is correct. I got a bunch of replies ranging from $100-$385. Somebody even said I needed to complete an engagement letter to have the conversation! APEX sent me a message telling me how to address my tax issue with filings and what my expected outcome should be depending on whether or not my son owes taxes. He literally said, "You should be able to use Turbo tax to handle...if you have trouble use their support or take it to H&R Block...You don't need a CPA..." No quote. Just good and clear advice on what to do. I currently do not need any other accounting/tax assistance, but if I did, I would go to Apex -- not because they are "any more right" than any other CPA firm, but because they clearly value *YOUR* time and money -- not just theirs. I like to do business with good human beings who, to some degree, treat business like it's part of a community and not just a capitalist market. Recognizing that my need "wasn't a big deal" for their level of expertise and taking a few minutes to type out a solution with no request for compensation speaks more volumes about the business than people who have paid for the service, in my mind. If they can be this complete in answers for a person who isn't paying them a dime during the time of year when they are most busy and can treat this period like a "cash cow" and bill for every minute, then how complete, thorough and diligent do you think they will be for a paying client? At some point, I want to do more real estate investing -- I read in other reviews that Apex also has experience in this space. I will call upon them for sure if I ever need assistance. If you need financial solutions assistance, I highly recommend that you give Apex Tax and Financial Solutions a shot at your business.
