We stayed here on an early babymoon. Wow this location cannot be beat, loved getting to watch sunsets and hear the ocean from our room. We also loved the beach service and the fact that we didn't need to pack chairs, umbrellas etc. The breakfast selection was also great with yummy pastries. Cons: The room itself was nice and spacious but definitely smelled like a musty motel, the sheets and pillow cases didn't feel super clean we found random hairs and spots on sheets which didn't match the price you are paying. We also paid for our stay using southwest points and fully paid upfront, upon checkout we were told we also had an amenity resort fee that was not mentioned at check in. I also feel that the amenity fee should include parking which is not the case and will cost you $33 per day. All in all we enjoyed our stay and the location really makes it, I do however feel this was overpriced for what you got.

This hotel is right on the water front and has its own private beach access. It was easy walking distance to a variety of great places to eat and to listen to live music during our stay. We loved the view from inside the room and from the balcony. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of preparing our room for our arrival and restocking on the day we needed a few more items. There were so many options for personalizing our room stay, but we were happy with what came standard in the room. We arrived early and got a parking pass so we could go out and explore the area while waiting for check-in. The check-in process was also quick and easy. We started each day with the complimentary breakfast items and were happy with the options. I stopped in at the end of each night to grab hot apple cider from the lobby, and we enjoyed it while sitting at one of the many fire pits before going back to the room. The only odd moment was on our last night when two fire pits turned off as we went to sit at them. The first turned off next to the lobby, then we moved to a second in the pool area that also turned off. After the second one, we just went back to our room and looked back to see both working again. We went back out and sat for a few minutes by the upper deck fire and both stayed lit. We had a great experience overall and we will be back soon.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! We had a great experience and we enjoyed the room, the facilities, the pool, the breakfast, and beach access. It's a perfect location and we didn't have to move our car, due to the Village only being a few blocks away. We enjoyed walking everywhere and it's a perfect location!

When I am on vacation, I don't want to work hard. The Beach Terrace truly felt like a slice of paradise and I didn't have to work to enjoy the beach. Pros: Quiet, boutique, private No music playing at the pool or on the beach (I really appreciate that) Front row to the beach Walking distance to restaurants Beach service valet - chairs, umbrella, body boards, beach toys Multiple fire pits and blankets Bike rentals (for 18+ years) Plenty of outlets Easy, dedicated parking directly across the street - complimentary EV charger Offers complimentary postcards and will send Cons: Can't use amenities until you check-in No jacuzzi No refresh of the room (or they missed ours) No blackout shades - but who needs them when the day starts out a bit overcast anyway? Every room had a view. It was so peaceful and well-decorated. The beds were plush and comfy. Communication was great and notices well-placed - like in the rooms, they support all "enlightenment" and have readings available for any curious mind (rather than your standard Bible from The Gideons), on the pool deck, they have a sign that lets you know what is permitted and not (e.g., no Marco Polo to preserve the quiet and restful vibe). Staff work incredibly hard and essentially non-stop: sweeping, setting up chairs/umbrellas, cleaning out the sand filter when you wash off the sand after you spend time in the beach. This was one of my favorite beach experiences and I definitely plan to splurge and return.

Is that a sperm or yogurt stain?

We got to experience 2 nights here. Receptionist was very friendly and gave good suggestions for the area. There is an amenity fee but it includes things we definitely enjoyed like the pool, firepit, beach chairs, umbrella, bike and breakfast. Parking was not included however. One night was with a "horizon" view even though it was called a "partial" beach view when booking - there was no partial view except a whole view of a roof. We decided to upgrade the other night, $50 more, for a full beach view and to get away from the stained pillow and chair that the front desk said children caused. Room was a lot bigger and you can hear the waves in that room. More importantly, it was cleaner - no biological stains on the decor, which made the first night feel like a motel 6.

10/10 would recommend. Property is super clean, staff is incredibly nice, and you have in-room beach amenities to use! I really liked the breakfast, super tasty. Both free and in room brunch offerings. Really close by tons of food and shopping and literally on the beach. A huge shoutout for their eco friendly efforts, really loved seeing so much glass at breakfast and compostable cups/cutlery. We had a marvelous time on our baby moon and can't wait to return when the little one is born!

Talk about a gorgeous ocean view! This place is as close as you can get to the ocean without being in it. The rooms are immaculately clean and thoughtfully designed. I love the patio! It has shuttered blinds to keep the room dark but allow you to see out to the ocean. The sounds of the waves at night and in the morning were so peaceful, I wish I had that every day. Staff are very kind and accommodating. Anything we needed, they were happy to help. The hotel is centrally located to all the restaurants and bars, just a short walk over. Peking here is free and convenient. This was such a fun stay, from start to finish!

Ask the Community - Beach Terrace

How much is a 2 night stay?

It depends on the type of room and time of year. If it's peak season it could cost you close to $1500+ for 2 nights. If you don't mind going without a view the price goes down.

Which airport is closest to this hotel?

I use the San Diego International airport (SAN). You could use the LA airport (LAX) if you prefer but it's over 30 min further away.

    How much is this?

Too much for a cockroach infested hotel. I haven't posted a review yet. However, we couldn't get past the cockroaches and the paper thin walls. The manager claims cockroach infestation is caused by the close proximity of water... The manager…

Has anyone had issues with people bringing large canopies? As in view blocking?

No, though I haven't stayed on the first floor. The first floor is slightly elevated so it may not be an issue.

It's an all suites hotel so it served that need. The room itself on appearance was very nice, perhaps recently refurbished and felt clean and modern. We had a couple experiences which made it a little weird though. The rooms have motion detecting lights that you can only sort of control. The shower for example...the light turns off when you're in the shower as it doesn't sense your motion and there's no way (obvious to us) to force it to stay on. That was a bummer for the 2 of us who wanted to shower but had to do so in the dark unless we opened the shower door and waved our arm around to hopefully catch the attention of the sensor to give us another 30 seconds of light. This also happens if you're sitting on the toilet. The last thing I want to think about in that situation is having to provide additional motion so the light doesn't turn out. In the living space, a light also automatically turns on when it senses motion. Not great for having our son trying to sleep in that room and us having to move through it to leave the room or access the kitchen to have all the lights suddenly turn on around our sleeping boy. Also had a disappointing non-fitness room experience. The fitness room was no accessible because of renovations...okay bad luck in terms of timing...but they said I could go to the adjacent Hampton Inn and use their fitness room which was open 24 hours. So I did, but, unfortunately their fitness room actually isn't open 24 hours as I learned when I got there. So no fitness room and wasted time walking in the rain to the hotel next door based in the inaccurate info given by the staff. So overall disappointing and strange (especially the lights situation)...seems like they forget to dot a few Is when setting these rooms up.

Room itself looked clean and newer, and I like that the layout is bigger than a normal hotel room. Having the small kitchen with fridge, microwave, and sink makes it really convenient when traveling with kids. Bed was comfortable and the room felt modern overall. Breakfast is included which is nice, but the food itself was about a 1-2 out of 5. Selection looked okay -- eggs, potatoes, sausage, waffles -- but quality wasn't great and the waffle area was messy when we went. Still free, so it helps for families. Honestly I booked this mostly for value. Legoland Hotel was around $600-$800 for the night, and this stay was $262 on a Saturday with AAA discount, so big price difference. For families this makes a lot more sense. If I put myself as a kid, this place would actually be pretty cool -- pool, free breakfast, big room, waffle maker, space to move around. That's why I was leaning 4 stars at first. But had to drop it to 3 out of 5 because the toilet in the room was leaking, which you don't expect at this price and at a newer hotel. Little things like that matter, especially with family staying in the room. Overall 3 out of 5. Good value, family friendly, but needs better maintenance. Would still consider staying again for the price.

When I arrived around 1 PM, I was told the room wasn't actually ready yet but should only be "about an hour." Three hours and several bar tabs later, I finally got access around 4 PM. What made the wait especially frustrating was that I had already checked my luggage with the hotel. Had I known I would be waiting three hours, I could have gone into Carlsbad Village or explored the area. Instead, I felt tethered to the property because all of my belongings were being held by the hotel while I waited for a room that I had been told was already ready. Then came the mystery of the soaking wet carpet. Not a damp spot here or there--the carpet was wet enough that it immediately raised questions about what had happened in the room before I arrived. Given the three-hour delay, my imagination was left to fill in the blanks, and none of the possibilities were particularly comforting. I had also specifically booked an ocean-view room rather than a pool-view room. While the room technically had a view of the ocean somewhere beyond the pool area, it was directly above the pool during a reggae festival weekend. Instead of the peaceful ocean-view experience I expected, I got a soundtrack of reggae and a front-row view of the pool scene. The location is beautiful and the staff was pleasant, but between the inaccurate room-ready notification, the three-hour wait, the soaking wet carpet, and the questionable interpretation of "ocean view," the experience didn't live up to expectations. I just checked in too! I have three more days of this... I used my Amex rewards for nothing.

Johnny was the only one at the front desk handling everything when I arrived. He was great, personable and still made us feel welcome. The property is beautiful. The 7 Mile Kitchen has good food, the Grab and Go Gelato and coffee is good as well. Our ponto suite was okay. It was interesting having the "living room" area in a hallway. I felt it was meant for a family with small children. However the beds were comfortable. The next night I spoke with David and Grace at the front desk. They were so kind and approachable. I appreciate it!

This is the worst Sheraton that I've ever stayed. At first,…read morewhen we checking in, the receptionist told us our room is on the second floor with room number 212*, when we got to the elevator, all the second floor room number start from number 2200. So we need to went back to the lobby to make sure where the room located. Second, they didn't inform us that we will be charged for $10 each day for borrowing microwave. Third, the complementary coffee never been refilled after 10 A.M. the first day, I was there around 9:30 to get some coffee but the creamer was out. So I informed the receptionist name 'Maria' and instead of assisting, she told me to request it to the staff at the restaurant. The second day, I was there around 10 AM and no more coffee. When I asked the waitress at the restaurant, they said the coffee is not meant for hotel guests instead it's for corporate people. Very confusing. Fourth, the cleaning staff didn't really pay attention to the details like shampoo, body wash, bottle water, and tea. I have to called the front desk everyday to asked for the refill. Also there's no signal for Verizon provider so it needs to get connected to the Wi-Fi. I really hope they can be more informative and pay attention to the details in the room.

From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. We've already booked our return trip next month! The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, exactly what we want when traveling with kids. We dined at 20 | Twenty and loved every bite -- great food, wonderful service, and relaxing atmosphere. The pool bar was wonderful as well. But what truly set this stay apart was the staff. The service throughout the hotel was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Julian at the front desk deserves a special shoutout -- he was an absolute gem. He went above and beyond to make our kids feel special, folding paper airplanes for them and taking the time to truly connect with our little ones. It's rare to find someone who brings that level of heart and enthusiasm to their work. Our kids haven't stopped talking about him! In fact, they were very sad to leave the hotel because of him. Julian's manager also checked in to make sure our stay was going smoothly, which showed just how much this hotel's leadership cares about its guests. The Westin Carlsbad isn't just a hotel -- it's the kind of place that turns a vacation into a cherished family memory. Highly, highly recommended. We can't wait to come back!

It saved a lot of time and made getting into the park easy. The lobby smelled clean and the hotel looked nice. Room was nice too. Unfortunately the bathroom had issues. The toilet needed two flushes even just for urine. The shower was also leaking and water kept coming out onto the bathroom floor. For almost $600 a night, I expected better. It's about the same price as staying at the Legoland Hotel, so I was expecting everything to work properly. Good location, but the maintenance issues brought my rating down. For now, 3 out of 5.
