Sub Par Gym. Even worse management/ownersip which attempts to dishonor membership cancelation AND misrepresents annual fees. This is just BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE. I write my first review to assist this business in process improvement and consider improvement for future customer experience. For business travel to Boston, I used this gym as an adequate alternative to hotel gyms. The equipment is 30-40 years old and in the 20 Months I intermittently used 2 locations, no improvements to equipment or facilities were ever made. This fee is misrepresentation to increase aggregate membership fee income and not to offset improvement expenses. When cancellation is handed to the staff,, management claims they did not receive it, argues with you (saying it's like car insurance) and suggests it should have been sent by certified mail to confirm receipt in an attempt to delay cancellation. I believe this continuation of ACH is as intentional as the Annual Improvement Fee Misrep.. To be fair, I just dont think the manager is given the autonomy to make a sound business decisions regarding accounting credits for refund. The staff is great (except for the little guy at one location with crooked hat working out and asking members to return to the scanner to scan in), so the environment is good for most users. Members are generally there to workout and sharing equipment should not be a problem. There are other choices, of better overall value, because of the poor management and misrepresented fees within a 4 minute walk. I will be using Boston Sports Clubs and GymHub on my future trips to the area. I was a briefly a member here on a month-to-month membership after the return-to-office movement post-COVID. It was just merely sufficient, and with nothing else in the area, you have to settle for this place. 1. Not that clean. Nobody has ever taken a paper towel and Windex to any of the mirrors in this entire place, neither in the weight room or upstairs area. The weight machines and floors under them had years of dust. The chains have cleaning people clean these areas. Women's locker room sort of gross. 2. Equipment is decent, you'll get a good workout in, all the major machines and weights you need, they have. 3. Towels are nice. 4. I was on the fence about staying. Then one day when no one was around, one of the male staff members scolded me in a rude manner about a rule that was posted nowhere and was not "a general gym rule" I've ever heard before. I cancelled that day. If you need something in this immediate area, I think this is your only option. Glad I don't live near here. read more

I wish I could give this location a better rating, but alas; it's your average bare bones gym that's not great, not terrible, but somewhere perfectly aligned in the middle. And that's not a bad thing! Here are the key points: Pros - Not that busy, even at peak hours. I usually get there somewhere between 5PM and 5:30PM, and by the time I'm out on the floor working out, there's plenty of space for me to do my thing. And rarely, if ever, do I have to wait to use a piece of equipment. - Free towels! Always a helpful perk when it comes to gyms and health clubs - The front desk is incredibly nice. And ladies, if you've lost a hair tie or forgot one at home, they keep a stash of new hair elastics up front for you to use. - I can't attest to the men's locker room, but the women's is fitted with plenty of lockers, two shower stalls, two hairdryers, and a space to hang your coat. - No aggressive, grunting, and otherwise annoying members! Everyone is nice and accommodating when it comes to sharing or using equipment. Sometimes for us women, it may feel uncomfortable when we're trying to work out among a bunch of men in the weight room, but this location is not like that at all. I've never felt excluded. Cons - The women's locker room is a bit on the dingy side. It's very small, so it almost gets uncomfortable when more than four people are in there at the same time. It's not the cleanest, but ::knock on wood:: there are no bad or questionable smells. Even though there are hairdryers, the locker room doesn't offer anything else in terms of toiletries/self-care items. And there's only one bathroom stall. Honestly, it's never been an issue in my experience, but I can see it becoming one, should it get busy in there. One more thing: you can hear EVERYTHING happening outside the locker room - people's conversations, classes going on, etc. Heads-up: if you think you told someone a secret, chances are, at least five people heard you and secret's out. - Not a TON of equipment, just the bare minimum. The one thing I wish this location had was a rack of free weight barbells. There are plenty of dumbbells and plates to work with, but the lack of barbell weights is a downer. - They do have a water fountain to fill your water bottle, but I wish it was one of those water bottle filling stations with the filtered water. Sure, ok, that's not so much a "con," but it would be nice! - There are no areas to drop off your towels after you workout, except at the front desk. One in the locker room and maybe one on the main floor of the gym would be great. read more

I am a true believer of stand by your word, make a commitment then follow trough. It's a simple enough concept. Yeah so I thought. As many of te regular Yelpers know, we ave a group of Yelpers that participate in a work out club each week. As the organizer, I call around to different gyms, studios, clinics etc seeing if there is any thing we can work out, explaining up front memebership is not the plan. Literally just looking for a supplement to our weekly routines and keep each other motivated. Last week I was referred to the North Station location because the wonderful manager and trainer (Jay and Parker from te North End location BTW) weren't available to conduct a private class for us. So I catted with the manager at the North Station location manager ** and we agreed on a fee of $20 per person (which by the way was more than what North end was going to charge). At the last minute she bailed out on us because only 3 people were going to make it. And on top of tat was extremely rude to me. Now correct me if I'm wrong, is that a way to treat a customer? Are you serious? To me that's a wicked natty move. Not to mention one that would certainly not interest me in going again. Now in fairness to the person I spoke to, I did tell er that on average we had 8 to 10 people. But it was not someting I promised as peoples schedules vary. I just tink it was a poor move. I will certainly still try to work someting out with the other locations, but I know for sure I will not come back to this one - EVER! Does this mean this is a orrible gym, NO not in te least bit. But customer service and fair service at that goes along way for me and unfortunately it was poor at best. ** Names of lame Manager at North Station left out on purpose as this is not intended as a personal attack, rather than a dissapointment on overall service. ** For some umor, my H key is sticking so whereever an H is missing is due to te fact I got tired of banging hard on te key. read more

All I can say is, thank god my work is paying for this gym membership! This gym has very limited machines due to its small space. The staircase leading up to the locker rooms smells weird and looks reminiscent of a Motel 6 room. Oh, and the locker rooms? Gross. You couldn't even pay me to shower here. The only positive aspect of this gym was the fact that they offered a pretty decent variety of classes; however, this has since changed due to the opening of their new combat training center. Now, the only non-martial arts classes after five are spinning classes (gag me now). Simply put, Beacon Hill Athletic Club just doesn't measure up, and its expensive price tag certainly doesn't help. read more

It doesn't get too crowded. Even during the after work rush, there's usually a treadmill available. The weight area has a fair number of users for the space, but it's not too bad. The thing is, all the cardio equipment is OLD OLD OLD. And the weight equipment is super-limited. The locker room is kinda gross. You can get a lot more for your money at other gyms. read more

I was staying at the hotel across the street from this gym and did a 2 day guest pass. Really enjoyed working out here. Great gym with everything you will need. I am in the middle of the Shortcut to Size workout and it requires a lot of different machines. This place had them all! Staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Go here if you want your stuff stolen, be spoken rudely to and have your privacy violated. I was a member of this gym for 2 years because it was convenient and close to my apartment. I referred my boyfriend who went on to be a member. They said I'd get a free month and when I didn't- I called and was rudely spoken to by their finances in charge. It was terrible as I'd been a member for so long. They said their systems were messed up and they can't help it. It shocks me how people can be rude when it is not their money. I kept calling and the financial in charge got ruder and ruder. Apart from that, the manager of the gym also lent out my umbrella to someone and then told me it was missing. I'd called the day after I forgot it and they informed me that they kept it behind the front desk- but the next day it was gone. I only received it after sending an email to the manager asking how it could be found and then lost from behind the front desk. I know another member who had her lipstick and some other items stolen from her purse in her locker. I also had my locker combination lock cut off because they thought I wasn't paying for it. They apologized but showed no remorse and were not very nice when I asked them to replace the lock. But seriously? I asked them why they didn't call or email and no one wanted to take responsibility. Apart from that- there are no group classes here. They close early. It is stuffy. The only saving grace- not too many members so relatively free. I moved out of the area and go to another gym which is so amazing- it finally feels great to be out of BHAC. And I pay the same. read more

I was a member from November to May, and it was pretty good. The staff was nice, although never really friendly, and it was never crowded even a little. It was dependably open even on snowy days. My biggest problem seems kinda trivial, but I swear, if you already aren't that excited about working out, it matters. They kept switching which channels they were offering on the TVs, which bummed me out because TBS (Saved by the Bell) was only available maybe a third of the time I was there. What gives? Sometimes they didn't even have NBC so I was reduced to watching infomercials while I ran. Misery! The big plus: towel service. However, I thought about it and decided that $64 dollars a month is too much to pay for three pieces of laundry done a week. Now I pay $10 a month for a gym with no towel service, but I get along just fine. And the funny channels are always on. read more

If this gym didn't have spinning classes, I would probably give it a 2.5. The actual facilities are average. They always have equipment available, but not all of them have tvs. They also don't have a nice spa like most BSCs. Luckily the spinning instructors are good! They have good songs and know what they're doing. This location typically has a 5:30/5:45 and 6:15/6:30 class m-f. I know that this is a stupid complaint, but the elevator is sooo slow. It can be annoying when you rush to the gym and then have to wait 10 min for the elevator to come! Oh yeah, its expensive! ~$64/month I would suggest checking out the much less expensive planet fitness if you're just going to use the equipment and not try classes. read more

Great downtown option. You'll never deal with crowds, the staff is friendly, and they're open on nights and weekends. Jeremy (the Manager) is almost always around to help and offers personal training at a great price. If you live or work in the downtown area you can't beat this gym. read more

I have been a member for about 3 years at the time of writing this review. I rarely post reviews, but I was extremely surprised by the current star rating and the negative reviews. I'll address those and describe what I like about the gym at the same time. Friendliness of the staff: the staff is very polite and very friendly. If I need something, they are very responsive. They're always up for friendly banter (I will miss Lindsay when she leaves eventually), they help with the workouts and the manager (Jeremy) runs the place very smoothly. I haven't even expected them to remember me or my name as they have a lot of people coming through every day, but they do-and I am pretty sure they memorize everyone who comes more than a few times, which is really nice if you happen to forget your membership card once or twice. I never ever had membership issues, and I had my membership upgraded, downgraded and frozen in these three years. Not once were there any problems, but I did give them a heads up a few weeks in advance-which is normal everywhere, not just gyms. I've never had locker issues-I've noticed that people rent small lockers and then occupy the medium or large ones, which is (duh!) not OK. I've never seen anyone cutting through the padlocks, but they will leave a warning if your belongings are in a locker number that is not registered to your name, which (again) is common sense. The locker room (I speak only for the women's) is very clean. Occasional towel on the floor, but nothing out of the ordinary. The showers work and are clean. I've never had anything stolen, but I did forget many valuables there over the years only to find it in the same spot the next day or placed somewhere visible. Bad TV channels/music-really?? All treadmills have their own screen as far as I know and I am yet to see someone without headphones. The music is not loud or high paced, which is actually really nice if you want to listen to your own. No one is ogling you if you're doing weights or dropping any inappropriate comments. The staircase (NOT dingy btw) leads to the combat room and the locker rooms. The martial arts group classes are what I usually attend and they are great, both noon classes and the evening ones. They are not cardio only-all of the striking classes are very technical and heavy on conditioning as well, but expect to suck at everything for the first few months (unless you're Mohammad Ali reincarnate). I will review the martial arts classes some other time, as this is already very long and they really do require a separate (but positive!) review. I really love this gym-I love the neighbourhood vibe of it, the cleanliness, the location and above all the approachable staff. I wouldn't have been a member for so long (and dragged all of my friends with) if I didn't enjoy it, especially with so many gyms in the area. I hope some of the things I've listed will convince you to at least try it out. read more

I like this spot better than the North End one. The atmosphere is good and the trainers seem to know what they are doing. They have the equipment that everyone needs. I am happy to have joined this place for the summer, but also happy that I have better gyms where I am from. read more

I really like this location and have been going here on and off for years. The staff is super friendly and always gives you a warm greeting. I had an issue with my billing one month and they were really understanding and helpful. The room of cardio machines is huge and very rarely crowded. I'm a member of Combat fitness which is part of BHAC. PRO: -MMA/BJJ classes are well attended and the instructors are friendly and willing to stay after and instruct if you have additional questions -Combat sports membership includes a membership to the BHAC gym - this is not typical of MMA gyms -Classes 6 days a week (some classes in AM, afternoon, PM) -lockers/towel services free -fitness classes (spinning, etc) included Needs Improvement: -Weekend hrs (wish they were extended a little) -Combat website (schedule) not always updated so sometimes you show up for a class to find out it starts an hr later OVERALL: I enjoy the gym and would recommend it for everyone interested in training MMA for a reasonable cost read more

It's easier to get to from my office, and I decided to stay on because I never need to wait for cardio machines and people started to recognize me- it's a small town vibe. Great Gym!! The staff at the front desk is always very nice and cheerful, equipment is nice and group exercises are so good. I especially like Kelley yoga class (she is the best!!) and the yoga bootcamp with Kelley and Steve (so much fun! A great team, always smiling and giving you good advices). DO NOT TAKE A MEMBERSHIP OUT TO THIS CLUB!!!! VERY rude "manager". My son was a member and wanted to cancel the membership for various reasons, too many to mention. He was told to come in and fill out a cancellation form, He did. The gym continued to draw the monthly membership fee from my acct.The manager stated that they didnt have the paperwork so they wouldnt reimburse my money. They refuse to reimburse the money they drew out of my acct. because " The employees would NEVER make a mistake and loose the paperwork on their end". I have sent numerous emails to the supposed Dist. manager, they gave me, on purpose the wrong email add. to the owner,. The so called manager of this gym stated " Im sorry you believe your son when he tells you he cancelled his membership" Initially my son couldnt find his yellow, half sheet receipt and then found it under his truck seat. Because they didnt have the copy on there end they basically were calling my son a liar. Jeremy has a PT after his name. This means he has a degree in Physical Therapy however we know this to not be true. Hes, I guess a personal trainer. NOT a PT. Sooooooooo many issues with the managing of this gym as well as lack of ethics. The Dist. Manager, who ignored FOUR emails send within two weeks. Because I intend on contacting the BBB, and the Atty Gen Office I got a ridiculous email response from the Dist. Manager who word for word just repeated his gym manager. ALL THIS FOR $129. I have been a member of the Beacon Athletic Club for many years! Great staff - so friendly and helpful! I train with Jeremy, the Manager, twice a week! He is terrific. I really like this gym... It's laid back, everyone there is super nice and I've worked out with 2 of their trainers and they were both really good. You can always get a machine when you want one, and it isn't a fashion show like equinox or sports club LA... Its just a good gym with down to earth people and a good atmosphere. I get in, do my workout, and get out. I would definitely recommend it read more
