I went here yesterday and bought a Leffe Blonde Ale 6 pack and a 12 pack of Smirnoff Spiked Seltzers This place specializes moreso in wine, but I'm a pretty happy camper and I was impressed enough with their beer selection Their prices on beer are fairly reasonable when you consider its in Beacon Hill The staff are very friendly and affable, plus they had WZLX on the radio when I was in there too...so all in all, I gotta give this place a solid review. Dear Rebecca, I am writing this review anonymously at the suggestion of the police. I came into your store last night, and interacted with three staff members: a woman, a man, and broader/taller white man with a Boston accent. The woman offered me extremely generous service, and though I didn't end up liking the wine she chose for me, she was professional, kind, and hospitable at all times. The younger man of shorter stature was also professional and kind. After a misunderstanding when I thought the woman had offered me an exchange for the wine I did not like, the taller white man with the Boston accent raised his voice at me and swore at me in front of other customers. I felt intimidated by him and left your store empty handed, though I had paid for a $20 bottle. As I walked home in tears and surprised at the interaction, I called the store to speak with the man who raised his voice at me. He told me he "didn't give a F" how I felt, and then said "go F yourself" and hung up on me. I discussed this harassment with the police, the better business bureau, and alerted a neighborhood listserv. I'm not writing this to you because I want an apology, wine, or even acknowledgement. I'm writing this to let you know that as a neighbor, and a patron for six years, my other female friends and I no longer feel safe coming into your store, and will take our business elsewhere. Separately, and this is none of my business, but out of solidarity I will also say that I was uncomfortable with how he spoke to your female staff member in an unprofessional way. It did not look like a healthy work environment to me. Thank you for previously wonderful service, and I hope other women have a safer experience in the future. read more

It looks from the outside like a really interesting store and I really wish I could have gone in but I noticed that the shopkeepers were walking around without wearing their masks and were allowing a couple of their customers to go without a mask. Right now I don't think putting money in their pockets to buy a nice expensive bottle of bourbon would be worth it given the risk. Nor do I think a shop that doesn't show enough respect for its customers to maintain a mask utilization is worth patronizing. read more

Charming little shop in Beacon Hill specializing in hard to find wines, champagnes and "spirits"! Staff was very knowledgable and helpful. The great thing about this place is that they have a decent selection of wines in store and if they don't have it, they'll find it for you. They also deliver as far away as Quincy and Gloucester with no minimum order! Prices are very reasonable for Beacon Hill. They also recently opened up and offshoot of this store in Melrose, which is much larger and has a great variety of gourmet foods and cheeses in addition to a large wine selection. read more

Love this place! They have a great variety of wines available and a small selection or liquor and beer. The staff is super friendly and always asks to help you find something. To be honest, I usually stick to the boring budget wines to keep on the table, but if I'm looking for something specific they can always find something for me, at my price point. Some people may not like this, but I do: whoever is checking you out usually has something to note about your purchase. Typically they'll let me know if they've tried it, what they liked about it, or what other customers are saying. I like that! Bordeaux, the resident kitty, is a totally badass. She runs the place, and sometimes goes for a walk down the street and back. Kills me. They're dog-friendly, too. My Ruby always gets a treat on the way out. :) read more

This is a nice, small local shop if you're looking for your liquor store to be more wine-focused. They have a decent selection of wine, and nice service. If you're looking for beer, they have some general options, but are a bit lacking, with just a few single options. The size of this place does lead to some definite difficulties in having a larger selection, and they do the wine part well, so it's still a decent, more low-key and out of the way option if you don't feel like going to Charles St. Liquors or DeLuca's. read more

I adore this place. Partially because it's around the corner from me but also because they have a decent selection of wines/spirits and a friendly staff which is always very willing to help me choose something even when all I tell them is, "Well, I just ordered chinese food...like greasy chinese food with broccoli." I like that I can be that down to earth with them and they don't judge me. Oh, and several times I've walked in they've been doing wine tastings. They should advertise this more though. read more

What can I say about this place? I send one quick message out to a friend who just happens to be the owner of the place and BOOM I'm driving there to pick up my holiday bottle of single malt Scotch at a fantastic price. It was seamless, quick and just what the doctor ordered. Only difficulty can be parking on Charles Street but again I ran in and ran out without issue because the staff was prepared. Double parked for about 47 seconds. Shh don't tell anyone... Great selection with a pleasant efficient staff. Next time I'll find legit parking and peruse the libations not in a break neck speed. read more

So, I'm a pretty bad reference for shops that sell alcohol. I don't buy it that often. So, I can't say if it's overpriced or average or what. I can't say too much about the selection. It's a little sparse, but they had what appeared to me to be a nice range. They have a few beers, not a huge selection, but the stuff you'd like to buy, not the stuff you would probably end up buying because it's cheap. But they don't have those hot, cutting edge new beers either. You know, nothing that was aged in JD barrels and then finished off with the Champagne method. Just your basic decent beers. They seem to focus on wine, but I didn't look over all that. I don't want to take the time to learn all about wine, I'd rather just call someone who did take the time to learn all that and buy off their recommendation. You'll find something to drink there. So, I'd probably give it three stars, but here's why I went with four: It's in the neighborhood. It's a small, local shop. Nice staff. Dog-friendly. read more

But what really sets this place apart is the staff and service. The people that work here are super helpful and accommodating. Beer options are pretty standard... I've been frequenting this place for years now. Sure, it's small, but they have a great selection and constantly switch up their wines, which allows trying/testing of new wines and that's fun- right?! The guys that work their are friendly and are always willing to help. They love my dog; he actually drags me there to get a bone (they make him sit before it's given to him). The location is ideal, as the only other quality liquor store is down near Cambridge St...hey that's far in Beacon Hill standards. Make sure to check them out, and get their opinion on wines to try. I work right across the street and decided to check this place out one day after passing by the store on so many occasions. Its very easy to spot if you're in the area given that it is located on the corner or Charles and Mt. Vernon. I was surprised that the store is pretty small as I walked in and obviously they do specialize more in wine over, say, vodka and beer. Hence, "Wine & Spirits." But they also sell a lot of, from what I could see, nips if wine isn't of interest to you. The store has a large to pretty good selection of wine, from floor to ceiling, it felt jam-packed with choices. (Overwhelming?) I can't really speak about the variety but hearing from other yelp reviewers, it seems like they have some interesting or unique items that would warrant checking the store out. This is our neighborhood liquor store. We could go to Chinatown, but they don't have nearly the wine selection of Beacon Hill W&S. I've been joining my friend on his trips there (very often) and already the staff knows me and are quite friendly. They don't have a huge selection of hard liquor and won't meet your needs if it's that of a poor college student (40's of Old English) but for wine and popular booze, it's your place! read more

At this store, positive reviews or high point scores were shown for many bottles on the racks. The problem is that the positive reviews were often for different years than the wine being sold, and someone had blacked-out out the year of the review with a Sharpie. (For example, a 2013 bottle might have a favorable 2009 review below it, with the year 2009 blacked out.) I brought this to the attention of the person working behind the counter and he removed some of the reviews, but I will not trust this wine store's marketing and recommendations in the future. * Edit to add, in response to comment below: To clarify, the reviews I referenced are not just point scores, but descriptions of the flavors present in the wine. If you don't think a wine's vintage matters -- which seems like an odd position for a wine store to take -- leave the review up, but be honest about the vintage it references. In fact, many stores *do* show reviews for previous vintages of a particular wine. That's fine, as long as the actual year isn't deliberately obscured. That's the problem, and it has an easy solution. (And while you might not price your wine based on its number of points, it's misleading to make a customer think a particular vintage was awarded 93 points if it was not. Or, for that matter, that a wine has notes of raspberry if it doesn't.) Thanks for your time and for considering this issue. read more

The staff in here always has great recommendations, are funny, and always know the score of the sox game. There are only a few places to find the best light beer around (sankaty light-from Nantucket) and Beacon hill consistently has it in stock.
