I've been to Golden Goose several times in the last year. It is a great shop to pick up a bite to eat while staying at a hotel nearby. We always make it a point to stop by while laying over. I had grabbed some cheese and deli meet from the deli counter. It took a while, but I don't mind when someone is careful in their work, however that was not the case. Not pictured is the sliced chicken that was essentially a pound of scraps squished together. Much like cheese in the following photo. My order was made so poorly one might consider malice. God this place rocks. I come here all the time for food and groceries and drink and even house stuff. The people working here care and are awesome. Their food is good too! This is a fresh out the oven buff chick pizza and was delicious. I'd typically get O'Cheese but O'Cheese wasnt open. I think O'Cheese is closed on Sundays. Ambiance is nice. Stayed at the Marriott Customs House for a week. We wanted a few things for the apt. Few markets in that part of Boston which have variety. So happy I found Golden Goose online. We were able to get basics but much more! Freshly baked quiche, great selection of seltzers and local beers and full liquor selection. Fruit, etc. They have specialty products and plenty of charcuterie type items. As We checked out I noticed a sign that they offer delivery and will even drive You to Your destination with Your purchases. What? WHO does that. We had planned to call Uber and the Cashier overheard Me asking My Husband to. He spoke Up and asked where We were going, then insisted the delivery driver would take us right away. You can not only get a decent selection of ready-to-heat and ready-to-eat stuff, but you can completely outfit your kitchen. The Golden Goose Market is the most convenient market in the North End! I have gotten everything from medicine, alcohol, breakfast, lunch and treats here! It is more expensive, but without a car, it is the best you will get to a bigger grocery store in the area. All the employees are helpful and kind. I am writing this poor review finally because I have just had it with their staff continuously screwing up my simple deli orders. This deli is right down the street from my office and a convenient spot to grab lunch, albeit the only spot as of recently, but for the last 4 visits in a row, they have screwed up my order. This last time was the most egregious; I ordered my usual lunch wrap, and when I returned to my office, not only had they left off the cheese (for the 3rd time in a row), but only put 2 slices of meat in my wrap. I actually had to disassemble the wrap to verify, I couldn't believe it. Almost $10 for a well below average wrap.. After this past visit, I will no longer be going to this market/deli. Overpriced groceries and prepared food. Bland breakfast burrito. Counter did not have salsa or sour cream or beans - only egg and cheese and meat in a tortilla. It came out to about $8 for a below average breakfast burrito. Came in one day looking for a Christmas tree. The man I spoke to said they don't sell Christmas trees because the city of Boston put a ban on selling them, so he suggested we go to Brookline or Somerville. Golden Goose is a convenient market located in the North End. I love it because it is the closest grocery store to home. They offer free delivery if you're order is at least $25. They've always delivered very quickly and I've never had problems! They have some specialty items, plus the staples you need. I only knocked a star off because it is more expensive than a traditional grocery store, but it's to be expected since it's not a big grocery chain. read more

If every corner store was like Golden Goose Market, I'd be the happiest woman alive. If you think your corner bodega/deli is perfect, you haven't been here. It is absolutely perfect: sandwich section, well-stocked groceries and produce, excellent customer service. Oh, did I forget to mention that they have a whole section for wines and spirits? Yeah, that's probably the most important part. A friend wanted to throw a mini surprise party for her friend in our hotel room and she wanted to get a bottle of champagne and candles. I'd use Drizly but given the area with lots of bars, you'd think there's a specialty shop for liquor, which you can hand-pick your booze. Luckily I found this place nearby and I'm so glad I did. It truly lives up to its name. It's a super convenient place in a nice area, and near all these hotels and tourist attractions. It's not always easy to find a place that sells fresh fruits and food for cheap in a tourist area. It's small, but has all your basic needs. In one trip, my friend was able to get everything she needed--and even picked up a birthday card! The people that work here were very warm and helpful. The Golden Goose Market, in my opinion, is a fabulous neighborhood market, with just about everything you might need, under one roof. Food products are good, deli and bakery products are pretty good (could definitely be moved up a few notches with new, improved product and recipes), selection is great, staff are very good, hours are phenominal - 7 days a week, morning to night, 365 days a year, and location can't be beat. The owner, Steve, is a hard working guy, and has dedicated a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears, to make the Golden Goose Market, great, for, I think, 35+ years. The Golden Goose Market reminds me of Cheers, "where everyone knows your name." Now, as for the critics that say the place is expensive, or there's not enough sunshine or moonshine, I think they have no appreciation for what it costs to operate an urban/downtown business, 17 hours a day, 365 days a year, and to provide a diverse selection of products, and good service. As someone who lives in the North End, this is my go to grocery store. You can also get breakfast/coffee/sandwiches made to go. I've found that they have the best selection of items compared to the other smaller groceries in the area. If you don't want to walk to the Whole Foods in Beacon Hill/Charlestown, I highly recommend stopping in here. I like to get coffee from here. It's not as expensive as other places, and yes, it's a five minute walk in a few directions to other places, but, my dad loves this place for some reason, so we always go. I haven't been inside it in years. I usually camp myself out in the vehicle, ready to move it when I hear the low tones of a diesel vehicle rolling up beside me. They have good muffins, pretty dense, and sweet. But doable. The coffee set up is a little tricky - lids at the beginning with the cups and then down to the end when you finish, you have to make your way back up - illogical. What a cute little grocery store in North End. From the outside I could not imagine how different this store would be. Here are few things that make this one such a special little store. - it is huge from inside. It has so many sections that are so categorically separated from each other. Deli, meat / seafood section, general groceries, liquor store and finally - a specialty italian section. - it also has a ready to serve sandwich / sub / food section where you can order and get freshly prepared goodies. - the liquor section is not crazy big but given how efficiently the space has been used - it has a lot to choose from. Beers / great wine collection - the Italian section has spices / condiments imported from Italy. Extra virgin olive oil and special balsamic Vinegar are sold from 2 huge tanks with taps and they have special deals for repeat customers. And not to forget different flavored vinegars one can pick. Some of the condiments I saw there I have never seen before. Very impressive. A must go if you are in the area! read more

Overpriced supermarket in the North End with limited selections. The only thing going for this place is the location due to a lack of proper supermarkets in the area. However, there is very little choice for most products and it's not very easy to find a supermarket whose offering is usually more expensive than that of Wholefoods. Enough said. I can help it, I love this store. It's one of the only (possibly the only) grocery stores I've been in that can best be described as "cute." Painfully cute. It's just lovely and quaint. All that being said, it is quite expensive, and there's only so much that can be excused by "it's the Waterfront." When many items are significantly more expensive than the Whole Foods in Beacon Hill, well...perhaps you're TOO expensive. I don't do my regular shopping here, but when I can't find what I'm looking for at cheaper neighborhood markets (and there are quite a few), I end up here and love every minute of overpriced shopping. Golden Goose is about your only option for a grocery store in the North End, though you'll probably go broke trying to do all your regular shopping there. They have an interesting selection of some things, like cheese dips, some of which are made there, (I was addicted to their jalepenio-artichoke dip, and now I don't see it anymore! bring it back!) and they carry some imported brands. I love that they carry the greek yogurt with honey that i love and those Florina fruit nectars. They also have a decent wine selection and sell some hard liquor and beer as well, which makes it nice one-stop shopping for wine and ingredients for dinner that night. The staff, and the man who I presume is the owner (or maybe just the manager) are all very friendly and helpful. One little perk, sometimes when I stop in here early on a Friday evening, they'll have a little wine and/or cheese tasting. read more

My first experience with Golden Goose was one of awe and amazement. At my previous place of employment we'd get catering from them often for groups and various staff functions. I always loved stealing half a wrap off from the plate when the catering wasn't for staff consumption. Homemade hummus? Delicious. Now, things have changed. I work in the North End and relatively close to Golden Goose. I had a brief love affair with their egg salad sandwich, which then moved on to the tuna, and now I'm just left disappointed with every bite. The love affair with the egg salad ended when I crunched into an egg shell. Not once, not twice, but three times. It's gotten down to that time of the week where I've brought lunch every day in preparation of pay day, pay day comes and I decide to give myself a treat. An egg salad sandwich from here hoping and praying it'll be good. Second bite into it.. CRUNCH.. egg shell. I had to open up the sandwich and inspect it to make sure I got all the egg shell out of it, at $5 a pop I can't waste my only lunch item. That makes 4 times I've found egg shell. On the one recent occasion I got the egg salad and there wasn't an egg shell in it, it tasted like the eggs had gone bad and left an awfully fishy taste in my mouth. Delicious? Not quite. I know my ranting and raving is about the egg salad sandwich, but that combined with the less than pleasant employees make this a not so satisfactory over priced place for food options. In my opinion the Golden Goose is a much more powerful totem; White Hens never chased me around the farm as a child, but geese scared the bejeezus out of me. Aside from the inflated prices, the Goose is a tip-top place. Frozen foods, soy milk, kashi, grass-fed beef, and a great deli with the *king* of meat dealers, Boar's Head.
