Pretty decent selection and store for thrifting. You're able to also come in and sell your clothes if needed. This is also a rather sizable location which is about the size of a Trader Joe's! Thrifting is a big cultural trend in Brooklyn, and Beacon's Closet here is a formidable choice to do so amongst other stores.i was able to find two winter coats here and was happy with my selection. Thrifting definitely takes time and you have to have the energy to do so in order to dig through racks. There is functionally no sorting by size, so unless you have shape shifting powers, or are a size zero person who is fine with wearing oversized stuff, good luck finding anything!!! After reading many of the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised to find this shop to be well-stocked and organized and with overall fairly priced items. There are lots of choices in outerwear, sweaters, shoes, bags, dresses and there's a nice balance between classic styles like tweed blazers and street wear casual sneakers and graphic tees. Both men's and women's clothing had nice selection. Staff was present and helpful but not hawkish during my visit. Rude and unprofessional staff -- especially the man with braids and glasses. The store is advertised to close at 8pm, but when a friend and I walked in at 7:40pm, we were told it was closed. However, another woman walked in just before us and was allowed to shop but we were turned away. When we questioned this and the closing time, the staff member claimed she had a friend already inside. He then followed us around the store, pressuring us to leave, even though other customers were still browsing. He became increasingly rude and condescending. He threatened to take our photo and ban us from the store. Totally inappropriate and unprofessional behavior, and it felt like we were being singled out. I've never had such an uncomfortable and intimidating experience while shopping. From other reviews I've read on Yelp, it's clear there is a recurrent issue with rude workers. If staff want to close early, that should be reflected online. Otherwise, customers should be treated with courtesy and fairness. read more

I went with my friend to beacons closet thrift shop in Greenpoint and joint is one large space of assorted ladies , men's , clothing , footware and accessories which is fine if you are strictly into wearing used stuff but I prefer the thrift shops that have mostly HomeGoods and especially the old stuff to be exact. Ok then while my pal is browsing around I will be a team player and good sport and try to find something I can wear that's not too wore out or has blood stains or bullet holes .As I stated in the beginning, place is big with plenty of stuff from front , back and side to side , etc. After browsing a bit I did find a old football jersey that's the real deal and a sweater that my cuz will love to wear in 100 percent humidity. Prices are a bit on the high side but not bad enough to put back on the rack . 3.5 stars on my yelp meter and 5 stars for the gal employee who is stunning and very helpful during my search . read more

This is a large thrift store with tons of women's clothes. They make you check your bags at the door if you have a backpack or large bag but I believe it's in small lockers with locks, so seemed very secure. There was also a lot of shoes at this location which was nice, I noticed a few cute pairs and some nice Nike sneakers. The clothes were surprising to me as I felt they were grossly overpriced. T-shirts were $15, I saw skirts for $30, jackets for $55 and $70, these are new clothing prices to me not thrift prices. The style of clothing was vintage, quirky fashions, nothing caught my eye but there was a line for the fitting room so obviously other people found good things. Overall I was very put off by the pricing and will not be returning. There was nothing at this store worth $30 or more. The maximum anything should has cost in there was $20 I'd say. I even found a purple sweater that was ripped and tagged for $44. read more

I'm sorry but I just can't deal with this place anymore. As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I have tried to sell my *very gently* used or new items multiple times. Today, I brought about 40 pieces of clothing. Again, new & gently used stuff. Up to date fashions and in season garments. Not only does it take 3 hours to have them assess the garments, but they also didn't want one single piece. Mind you, I'm a common size and I brought in both men and women's clothing. To add insult to injury, they text me that they are abruptly closing early due to "inclement weather" ... a thunderstorm already happened and is over. The sun is out. How is that okay? I have plans tomorrow and now I have to rearrange said plans to pick up my clothes. I will probably donate them, but I don't trust Beacon's closet that they will actually donate my stuff as they claim. What an unpleasant experience. Went there today to sell my clothes. Upon arrival I was met with rudeness from the stuff, who took my suitcase and carelessly tossed it aside. When I received the remaining items back, they were thrown into a stinky bag and my suitcase was returned empty. My clothes were neatly folded when I brought them in etc. they could've at least put them back in. While waiting from my text message from them I was searching through the racks. I noticed many items with stains and holes so I was pretty sure that they would accept most of my clothes. My clothes were in perfect condition ( I decided to sell them because my style has changed since I bought them etc ). They were well taken care and quite expensive but mostly European brands so I assume the staff wasn't familiar with them . Unfortunately, maybe 3 out of 50 items were accepted. I live nearby but still the hassle of dragging my clothes to the store was not worth those 25$ and rude treatment from the staff. read more

The Beacon's location in Greenpoint is a lot larger than their other locations - allowing for an expansive array of clothing to sift through. I haven't had luck to find as much Designer here, more so Streetwear or Vintage-style classics. Prices are quite good - so it could be great for costume shopping. read more

I know thrifting has become more popularized with Instagram influencers and tik tok, so maybe that is why these thrift stores in Brooklyn are so pricey. If the quality for the clothes and shoes were better, I could understand the stores having a higher price but you are better off getting new clothe from reg. stores when they have sales. Decent thrifting for the brand-conscious but frugal shopper. Mostly lower-mid tier brands (J Crew, Banana Republic, White House Black Market) with a good mix of upper-mid tier (Vince, Opening Ceremony, Allsaints, Helmut Lang, Theory) and some nice designer finds peppered in. Things are generally priced well, but sometimes I'll come across something egregious, like a stained/ripped ugly vintage designer sweater from the late 80s for like $80...uh uh honey. With that said, it's a far cry from many of the ludicrous NYC vintage stores that try to get away with selling a moth ball ridden Armani blazer from someone's late grandma's estate sale for $350+. Always a lot of Joe's, Acne, Citizens of Humanity, etc in the pants/denim section. Store could definitely be organized better. I hate the whole sorted-by-color thing; it's way too difficult to find things in my size. Lots of damaged/poor quality merchandise. Generally pretty reliable about marking it as such ("as is" on the tag) but definitely worth a check before buying something. I've been burned before where I'll find a hole once I get home. All in all, some great finds if you have the time and patience to spend hours sifting through the racks. If not, you can always try The Real Real (SoHo) but you'll be paying a hefty premium. read more

I guess the clothing I bring in suck, cause they never want it. Yet it's sold at Bergdorf's , Sak's and Intermix! Their loss!!!! All colors were black & grey that I brought in. Very cool pieces. Apparently cool cargos and other cool pieces don't work in Park Slope. Yet whenever I wear clothes like this, my friends and neighbors always ask me where I got them. The worst Closet of Beacons to shop at. Literally all of the people who work there are either pretentious (acting way too cool for school then they really are) and/or are awfully awkward (and not the social anxiety type). They are terrible at communicating and even worse at communicating. I literally hate coming here unfortunately its the closest one to me and I really do appreciate getting a little coin for my goods but dear heaven I wish someone could give this place an attitude check, customer service 101. and some damn tree to help loosen them up. Go at your own risk. Honestly way better options throughout the city and BK. Yes you'll find some cool vibes but I'm the type of person that vibe matters. I've had luck finding unique pieces at all of their locations, from vintage tee's to super lightly used designer pieces at great prices. Definitely can be a bit of a hunt, but if you're willing to spend some time sorting through the racks you're likely going to find something great. All locations can get super crowded, so that's the only thing that can be challenging, especially if going on the weekends...makes it tricky to sift through the racks. read more

Based on my experience, I believe this store sells counterfeit merchandise. They may not do that intentionally, but my purchase makes me wonder. I bought a t-shirt here from a well-known Japanese label. It was priced below $20, which surprised me. I asked the cashier if she thought it might be fake. She said the store can't vouch for authenticity of anything it sells. Took a chance anyway. Sure enough, Grailed removed the item, declaring it fake. Grailed's experts determined the t-shirt was a counterfeit item. Did the Beacon's Closet buyers know it was a fake when they brought it in? The low price makes me think they knew it was counterfeit in the first place. As consumers, shouldn't we shop with the assurance that a merchant, in good faith, is not selling counterfeit merchandise? REVIEW AS A FIRST-TIME SELLER. writing this post to hopefully ease the minds/anxiety of people who have never sold to thrift/vintage/resell stores before. your pool of clothing may have a lot of different items compared to the items I brought in, just keep that in mind. SUMMARY: **Staff: 10/10 super kind folks willing to answer all your questions, patient **Inventory for customers on shelves: 7/10 it's unique that they separate the clothes by color, but sucks because I am a bigger girl that usually wears XL and it was really hard to scout for some good finds for bigger girls. **Return rate: 30% cash or 50% store credit of the price they choose to mark to sell. **Atmosphere: super colorful, great music, brightly lit The process: I came in through the selling door with my items and was informed that at the very moment because we're in the month of August-- it is a transitioning month in the sense that they are leaning off summer and making way into fall. The staff member specifically said that they are only taking the "best of summer" and the "best of fall" at the moment-- which is understandable. I was then checked in by the employee through the tablet and was informed that it would be a 2-hour wait and there would be a chance that nothing would be taken. I would be notified by text when to pick up my items. There are a lot of things to do in the area so if you're just having a self-care fun day the 2 hours will pass by really fast if you're browsing the stores and grabbing lunch. I would say they are very picky with what they are looking for-- so just beware. They took none of my items, that's fair because if one store won't take it you can always go to others such as Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads!
