This YMCA is great. Reading the other reviews, I am going to attempt to address some of the complaints. 1. Parking: Yeah, the parking isn't ideal, but they do the best they can! There is a small lot with about 15 spots behind the Y, about half the time I am able to park there easily. If that small lot is full, there is a parking garage directly across the street, the only downside to this is that you have to validate your ticket, and there is a 2.5 hour limit, which is usually more than enough but it is nice to not have to think about the time limit, which is why I prefer to park in the small lot behind the Y. 2. Staff: I have no idea what these other reviews are talking about when they say that the staff members are snarky or not helpful. All staff, specifically at the front desk, are kind, helpful, and even have gone the extra mile to learn my name even though I do not visit extremely frequently (~once a week, maybe twice.) 3. People on their phones on the equipment: Honestly, I've seen this happen (I've even done it myself at times) But typically its just someone sending a text or changing a song. I have never seen someone sit on their phone for more than 30 seconds on each machine. Stop by this Y, meet the staff, you won't be disappointed. read more

The location of the Y was poorly planned. The building is small, parking is atrocious. It is a nice facility, but for the increasing number of members, there shouldn't be a reason that you have to consistently look for non-peak times to get in a workout. The pool is TINY. Only 4 lanes with one being for walk aerobics. You usually have to share your lane with one to two other swimmers. You also have to walk to the pool from the locker room area next to the lobby. That makes absolutely no sense. The pool is also located in a glassed area next to the upper level workout rooms. So, be prepared for LOUD music being played while you swim and constant traffic from gym members. Front desk staff haven't been trained in customer service. No greetings, have their phones in front of them, when you have questions, they just point to self-service. Not quite sure why there needs to be a paid position for someone who doesn't seem to have a purpose being there. No way to improve on this except for moving to a bigger, better planned building and hire new staff or retrain existing staff. read more

I only went as a guest to try out a class but I've gotta say, I was impressed! The gym is well though out and seemingly large for the amount of patrons that go. I'd love to go to more classes and I would've chose to sign up IF they had a way to register for classes read more

Knocking down to three for a few reasons. First the monthly membership just went up, family rate is now up to $72.50. They don't accept Silver Sneakers for seniors which is too bad considering the high number of Seniors residing in Pensacola. The hours of operation is still an issue. The popular classes start around rush hour, this is inconvenient for those working regular 9-5. It gets really busy at this time. It can be difficult to find a decent parking spot in the garage or the streets because of this. I saw members get turned back from doing cycling because the class was full. I just learned that the Y now gives members access to the community Y located in Gulf Breezes, the equipment is dated, but it's a 24 hour facility which is great. I decided to stop by just to find out it costs an additional $5. I give up! Anyway, the staff here is great, I like that they have a sauna and steam room. There was a time when they allowed members to freeze their account when needed, that's no longer acceptable. read more

The facility is great. It's got mostly what you need. My wife goes for the swimming pool and I work out and sauna afterwards. The staff is friendly depending on who is working. Some people never smile. That doesn't bother me. I'm not there to make friends. What really sucks about this place is they pretend they care. I got an email from them asking me why I ya be the a lower rating and I explained it to them. No further response. Crickets. These ppl pretend they care. I've enjoyed being a member here, but lately it's been frustrating how limited the equipment is, especially during peak hours. There just isn't enough to accommodate the number of members. Hoping the gym invests in more machines or finds a way to improve access--it's becoming difficult to get a full workout in. read more

It is extremely crowded and virtually impossible to do any workouts in the mornings or evenings. If you decide to end your membership, make sure you do so by the 25th of the previous month. They will not refund your money if you call on the 1st of the month. (Ridiculous in my opinion but they do have it on their website) I was wrong to assume that they had the ability to refund, even though they have the ability to pro-rate your signup in your first month. My advice is to find another location or another gym. read more

Not clean, inconsistent fitness classes, employees eating fast food/junk food really not setting a great example for a fitness gym.

This is a great family friendly gym. Machines were clean and everything seemed to be nice and updated. They have a variety of areas to work out with that I've noticed. It was a quick visit as i was only here for 30 minutes w/ my brother. They included: Aquatics area w/ a large pool. It also looked like they had a smaller pool on the side for senior citizens. A sauna/steam room Spinning/Cycling room Fitness class room x's 2 A large cardio area w/ multiple workout machines Free weights area A basketball court w/ multiple basketball hoops Being a guest w/ a member it was an easy check in. I have been a member for more that 10 years and I have now cancelled my membership. The only reason I went was for the deep water fitness class. That instructor made sure you worked. Many people came and realized it wasn't your normal easy class and never returned. It was a very good true workout. Before the new YMCA was built, we were able to utilize the entire pool. After the move, they catered to the lap swimmers and many days we were hitting each other trying to work out since we had no room. About a 9 days ago we had a different instructor, which was very unusual. We asked where our instructor was, she said she didn't know. She knew what kind of workout we had because she used to lifeguard during our time. Her class was a joke. After class she bent down with a big smile and said our class was cancelled and she didn't know why. After hours of worry and phone calls we found out our instructor was ok. She LIED. That was nothing new coming from this employee. She has lied to us more than once. The employees are not as friendly as they used to be. I have heard from more than one, they are stressed because of working conditions. Very poor management. read more

I have attend the downtown Y for 3 years. During that time I have attended regularly the deep water aerobic class. We have had multiple regulars attending the class the entire time I have attended there. A few of the members have been in the same class for 10+ years. Last Friday we had a substitute (one of the lifeguards). We were given no explanation to where our regular instructor was. At the end of class the lifeguard told us that the class was no longer. When we asked questions, we were given no answers. We were left in shock. We didn't know if our instructor may have had a medical emergency, car accident, etc,etc!!! We all felt we were treated very wrong and insensitively! We later found out by reaching out to people other than YMCA employees, that the instructor (which had worked there 40 years!) had quit. We learned that the administration had been treating her terribly which pushed her to quit. We assumed they would find another instructor, but they just removed our class off the schedule completely. We all loved this class and are devasted that there wasn't even an attempt to meet our needs. Many of us can't attend regular aerobic classes due to bad backs, knees, feet, etc. My physician has told me to do water aerobic classes. The other classes offered don't even get my heart rate up. Don't even get me started on the cross dresser in the ladies locker room. Ladies have seen parts that ladies don't have on their bodies. Someone complained, but nothing was done! This Y doesn't care about their members. UPDATE: The response to my review is completely false. No one would tell The 4 participants anything about our wonderful instructor. Everything that was asked was responded to with a shrug and "check social media"! Sad a Christian organization can't even be honest about their own actions. read more

It's got a great gym, great pool, great classes, and friendly staff. I'm giving it four stars though, because I left my 4 year old daughter at the drop-in daycare, and when I swung around to pick her up 15 minutes later she was crying because another kid poked her in the eye with scissors and yanked her arm. She's a generally calm child, and the fact that another child got physically aggressive moments after she entered the room was and is concerning. I plan on using this Y frequently, and I recommend it overall, but I will steer clear of the drop-by childcare from now on. read more

They are really friendly and clean! They have the best coffee and the parking isn't bad (pretty cheap for on the street parking)! They also have/share a parking garage (free with validation)! They have daycare certin hours. The thing I don't like is you have to pay each month the membership fee and then still pay for the programs they offer($50-$100+)! "That doesn't make since to me! Why am I paying monthly membership if I still have to pay for the programs which is alot of money when the program has stages(your person has to pass or repay the fee each time your person fails aka dont pass!" I needed a gym for the summer that had childcare and a good workout environment. The initial introduction and walk through looked great. We went the next day and it was packed! Like crazy wild packed. People literally wait in line behind machines in order to use them. Talk about intimidating and awkward. Several machines had ripped seats and and most wouldn't even adjust. I gave them several attempts and did find the private yoga/meditation room downstairs very relaxing and fulfilling and the childcare employees were wonderful. But it's not worth $75 a month to wait for broken machines. I'm much happier waking up at 5am snd going to my little happy planet fitness! read more

The gym itself is excellent. High quality equipment and the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and polite. The downsides are the parking and the people. This Y did an excellent job at putting high quality equipment into its space, but the amount of people that flood the space during peak hours makes N.Y. Traffic look easy. Just about every machine has someone waiting to use it after the current occupant and many gym-goers don't follow any form of gym etiquette or protocol. Some Will even camp out on equipment and pull out their phone for 5-10 minutes. I hope the staff begin to curtail this nonchalant and inappropriate attitude, especially during peak hours. Parking used to be a nightmare but with the recent opening of the parking garage I've never had a problem getting a spot or completing my workout before the free time ran out. However I do know that some folks still have issues with parking, maybe I've just been lucky. read more

This Y in and of itself and the staff are great. Plenty of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment all in good working order. There are two reasons I have to give it only three stars. The first is because it is unfortunately too good for its size and is therefore almost always aggravatingly packed. If you happen to be military and have ever been to the gym on a ship you know what I am talking about. From 7 am to 7 pm most days it is busy. Slight lulls mid morning (9-11am) and early afternoon (1-3pm). Very busy during the morning and lunch blocks, enough to screw up my routine every time, and peak times are completely unbearable. I won't even try going between 4 to 7 pm. The second reason I had to take a star is because the gym patrons are, as a group, among the worst I have ever experienced and proper gym etiquette is almost non-existent. Weights are frequently left without being re-racked, benches are used at towel and water bottle holders, people do supersets utilizing two separate pieces of equipment during peak hours, all of the things that annoy the experienced gym goer are a common occurrence. The thing is, I don't think they even know that what they are doing is in bad form, they seem utterly clueless. If the management reads this I would ask that you please add some signs to inform people of proper etiquette. I know this shouldn't be necessary, but it is unfortunately very much so in this case. Not sure what else would help, maybe a add an etiquette section to the newsletter? Like I said the staff is doing a great job and the facilities are very nice, but I am currently in the market for a new gym. Even though I live right across the street the convenience has gotten to be no longer worth the hassle and frustration during my workouts. read more

I have heard about the new Y for quite some time so when I came home for the holidays I bought a 2 week pass for $25 instead of the day pass. I have taken advantage of the group fitness classes and enjoyed Tabata which was most challenging, toning which was easier, and spinning which was standard. The equipment is in excellent condition, the gym is very clean, the staff is very nice, and the hours are ideal for my vacation schedule. I do find coming in the mornings are better because around noon; nearly every piece of equipment was in use. I utilized the sauna and steam room *the sauna should be hotter and have a low noise rule. I have heard people complain about parking but I found parallel parking close by each visit. If I lived here I would 100% join as my primary exercise membership. read more

Great new gym downtown. They have a sauna, pool, and steam room. Very modern with basketball courts. Great gym equipment. Parking validation available up to 2.5 hours in the parking garage across the street. There's an Andrew's institute physical therapy office in there too. The one thing I don't like is that they don't have a hot tub. read more

I have enjoyed going to the YMCA the only concerns I have is the cleanliness and the lack of members not wiping down equipment and the lack of having access to sanitizer to do so and also the dysfunctional equipment every week (Treadmills) with such a large membership there's not enough equipment to accommodate the large membership that exists at the Y read more

Overall, this gym is great. Having access to so many programs, machines, and a pool, it allows for a wonderful workout experience. The reason why it's receiving 3 stars is because of the customer service I have received while working out. One time I was working out and I took my phone out to change a song which took me a matter of seconds. Well, right when I took it out an instructor approached me and told me to put my phone away while on the machine. I tried to explain to her that I was literally changing a song but she wouldn't listen to me instead she waved me off and walked away. Yesterday I was about to workout on the seated row machine and noticed that the cord was disconnected from the weight. I went to tell the instructors to bring attention to it. I felt like I interrupted their conversation because they seemed annoyed. When I showed them the problem their response was, "oh that's an easy fix, happens all the time", and then they continued to turn to one another and pull out their phones and start up their previous conversation while I'm trying to fix the machine by myself. I couldn't figure it out so I asked, "Am I doing this right?" And the instructor said, "Girl just leave it." The entire reason why I approached them on the issue is because one, I wanted to make them aware and two, because I wanted to use the machine. But it seemed like neither mattered to them. It is extremely frustrating to pay 40+ a month only to be treated like this. I could easily go somewhere else, pay ten bucks a month, and have exceptional customer service. I hope that these issues can be addressed so I may have better future customer service experiences. read more

My kids love coming here and swimming in the pool and going down the water slide. The basketball court is usually pretty busy and it's hard to get to play a game. They have a lot of free classes for members and have a good selection of workout equipment. read more

This gym is by far the most well-rounded gym in all of Pensacola. The yoga classes they offer are phenomenal and have a variety of times throughout the day. The teachers are highly qualified, compassionate, caring, and very knowledgeable. It's the best yoga class experience I've had at a gym ever. You can't beat the rates. It's downtown, so like any visit downtown, scheduling a few minutes extra to find parking is suggested. Other than that, my family and I have had a fantastic experience and are wondering why we haven't signed up sooner. read more

This pool has been a lifesaver for me I have severe fibromyalgia and a bad hip that I'm going to have to have surgery on. My only complaint is for a therapy pool it is much too cold, people with arthritis and fibromyalgia hurt more when being chilled. The large pool can be kept at whatever temperature they want, but the therapy pool needs to be warmer. Love the people I've met there they have made me feel very welcome, I moved here from Illinois and feel like I have a whole new family the staff is wonderful read more

Been here for a year canceled twice. Do not waste your money get a home gym. The customer service is not good and there is not any room to work out. When you go to the little individual rooms you will get kicked out by janitors no matter if it is 1 p.m. during the day or 7 p.m. at night they are always wanting to mop the floor and do not care if you are using the space. read more

I think the new YMCA was poorly planned. It should have been built on a bigger plot of land. Parking is an absolute nuisance. There is not enough space for equipment to support the increase in patrons. The pool area is cramped. Lockers are tiny. I have been to many new YMCAs across the nation and this one doesn't measure up. I mean one has to walk in their bathing suit to the pool through the lobby. I simply can't believe that these issues were not discussed and addressed. My vision is it could of been a whole lot better and could accommodate many more pensacola residents. It could have been a stronger community center than the cramped one it is. read more
