Greatest Family Adventure! We came up to the area to honor and celebrate a family member's life. In the process, our family decided to try out the Bear Mountain Ziplines. This became the highlight of our trip. The staff made everyone feel safe with their great instruction, professionalism, and patience with us first-timers. We soared over the tree tops, screaming, cheering and laughing all the way through. The views were incredible, and the course was well maintained. We all loved it. It was the perfect mix of adrenaline and family bonding. The views were amazing, and the personal attention really set this apart. My husband and I came to Luray for a quiet weekend away. Katie and Jacob were our treetop guides. To say they were the best would be an understatement. Both of them were well versed in zip lining and made the experience so much fun. It was hard to be uncomfortable for long with them at the helm. Almost polar opposites - Katie was a burst of energy with an infection personality and Jacob was laid back, calming presence with an unexpected jokes that would catch you off guard. The pair made the zip lining experience that much more memorable. Highly recommended if you want a little thrill in the Luray area. As I exit Bear Mountain Zipline popsicle in hand I notice the faces of my friends, smiling ear to ear. One tells me about his mastery of the upside down turn, one tells me about facing his fear of heights (it's not that high) and the others argue over who went fastest. The zipline experience is fantastic. Cassie and Anna were amazing. So much positive energy and encouragement, they somehow made everyone feel special even in our large group. The area is gorgeous, zip lining through the trees, we didn't get hit with too many bugs (I did douce myself with bug spray prior to attending). I felt totally safe. The equipment looked new, felt very strong and durable. The course is very well maintained. Good for all ages. And yes they really did give us popsicles! read more

I had an absolute blast on the ziplines at Bear Mountain (Adventure in the Great Shenandoah Valley)! My friend and I chose the Mana Bear Canopy Tour. This provided an exhilarating experience for frequent zip-liners and first-timers alike! The Mama Bear Canopy tour features 7 lines, which increase in length and speed as you progress in the course, and build up to a very long and faster final line! This set-up is especially great for folks like me, who were a bit nervous at the beginning of the course. Pros: Reasonable Price: The price for the canopy tour is $75 per person, which definitely feels reasonable, given the instruction and attention that you receive on this tour. Tours are offered throughout the day and range in time depending on the size of the group-- My group had 8 people in it, and I think the whole experience was about 90 minutes long, which felt like a good amount of time to me. Amazing Tour guides: The tour guides could not be any funnier, sweeter, or more helpful. Katie and Savannah led my tour, and ensured that everyone fully understood the proper form and basic movements to zipline safely. Small Group Sizes: My group size of 8 was just perfect-- it included a whole variety of folks, from people who had zip-lined before, to first timers. There were a couple of teenagers, a mom and daughter, an older married couple, and also what seemed like a first date. Overall, this makes for a great experience regardless of age or specific situation! Safety Precautions taken: I felt very safe on the ziplines. The instructors make sure that you are using the equipment correctly. You are weighed before going on the ziplines to ensure that you meet the weight requirements, as well. Beautiful Views and location: Overall, you really experience some beautiful views on this zipline course. I went in fall, and was not disappointed. This course is located in Luray, Virginia, and is nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. I believe that from DC, it took about 2:30 hours to drive here. Tips: - Service: There is really no signal in this area-- I had no service here. This didn't present an issue for me, in fact I preferred to disconnect here, but just be aware in case you need to connect for whatever reason! - Phone/ Pockets: I brought my phone as I zip-lined, to take pictures. You will need a very secure pocket in your clothes in order to keep your phone in, if you plan to bring it. You can't take pictures while you are actually on the lines, because both of your hands will be engaged and holding onto things as you zip. However, you can take pictures between lines, in the waiting areas. If you are going to be going on the course with a friend, you can take pictures of them while they zipline, because everyone does each line one-at a time. - Be on time: If you are late, you might hold the rest of the group up, and eventually they will probably have to kick off the tour without you. My tour started pretty promptly! If you are going to be even 5 late, I would definitely call the # to let them know. Other: It was really fun to ride up the mountain to the course starting point in bumpy flat bed dragged by tractor Cons: None to report! This was an incredible experience :)! For my first experience ziplining, I don't think I could have had a better one. I am extremely unenthusiastic about heights, but I decided to conquer my fears and brave the treetops. I was definitely not disappointed! You are transported to the top of the mountain via tractor pull. The first zipline was a training zipline, and then six others led back down the mountain. The ziplines wove through the trees and some were long enough that you couldn't even see the platform ahead or behind. It was beautiful in the trees, even though they weren't clad in leaves. I'm sure it would have been absolutely gorgeous in the summer or fall (and definitely less cold!), but I loved being able to stand in the trees at the same level as the birds. I was really impressed with the friendliness of the owner and the zipline guides. All were knowledgeable and made me feel safe, even as I clung to the tree so I could stay away from the platform edges. The rock wall that backs the very last zipline platform was also cool and new (and didn't seem overly difficult, though I sat out and took pictures). However, I think that the main attraction is definitely the former. read more

My husband and I had a great time here! We never ziplined before but Katie and Justice were the best guides ever!! They helped us gear up and on the platforms, they gave very easy to follow instructions. From the moment we met them, they were so nice and we felt like they were our old friends. They were funny and made us feel at ease. The course consisted of 7 ziplines (if I remember correctly) and they started short and then increased in length as you went. The woods were shaded and peaceful. The last zipline was around 900 feet starting in the woods and emerging into a meadow, crossing the meadow to the platform with speeds around 35 miles per hour. These guys are fun and professional. They definitely make sure you are safe and comfortable on the lines. They made sure we had a good time, and to be fair, we really did. I will say that the course feels a little short for the price. There are 7 zip-lines, yes - but one of them is a short practice line so I don't think that really counts. The final zip line is amazing and really really fast. You come down out of the trees, across a field, and land on the final platform. I wish all the lines were like that one! read more

The rock wall is challenging given that only two people in my 7 person group were able to make it to the top, and the zip lines are even more exciting! The last one zips you up to 35mph! read more

We had a fantastic time! My stepdad and I did the Mama Bear zipline and they're really good at instructing you on how to break and even have a baby practice zipline before the real thing. The high ropes course was really cool too. I was able to help my little sister through it and she was able to zipline past the obstacles she couldn't figure out. We finished our trip with the rock wall, and that went really well too! My little sister was a little too short to reach the rocks on the rock wall, but at least she tried! read more

On our last day visiting Luray, Virginia we called and made a reservation for later that day. My husband and teenage step-daughter did the Mama Bear zip line for $75.00 each. My seven year old daughter and I did the Baby Bear high ropes course with two small zip lines for $20.00 each. My daughter also did the rock climbing wall for $15.00. My daughter loved both. The owners were very nice. They even let my daughter do everything again for free when another girl came. They told her she could be a guide. I gave four stars just because I think the prices are expensive. We were on vacation, so we paid it, but I don't know if we would do it again. read more
