Last night, I appeared to be alone in the place, with its proximity to potentially menacing dolls in a crib (and deep, looming shadows down the entryway). Things might well have gotten spooky (and if I had the $$ and a production crew, this would be an amazing location for an indie-horror flick!) Such a quiet peaceful retreat. I don't ever use a tv in a hotel room, and I love a room without one. This place is clean and has decent electricity, cute, and history appropriate, but the themed rooms are cool. The only problem me and other guests had was you had to let yourself in with a code at night, no onsite staff, and the door lock was quirky. So, guests were propping it open when they went to their cars in order to not get locked out. read more

This place is a scam. Stay somewhere else. The owner provided an entry code by email. Yet the code did not work. I contacted their international number and also texted. No response for 25 minutes, having zero assurance that the calls would be answered at all. I requested a refund, they declined. I did not cancel the reservation. I was not a 'no-show'. I was on site on the date of reservation and could not enter due to a erroneous or fictitious entry code provided by the owners or their service. read more

Fantastic renovated 1880's inn, feels like it's out in the middle of nowhere yet it's just a few minutes off the highway. The interior decoration is amazing and obviously a labor of love, all done by the owners. Each room has a theme. All are gorgeous. Beds, pillows, and linens are super comfortable. The bathrooms are exceptionally well done. Yes, they are common bathrooms nor en-suite with the sleeping rooms, but there are completely private WC rooms and showers, the finishes are top notch, the fixtures are high end, the water pressure is beyond sufficient for the rainfall shower heads. And, you get to sample the products from theur Beard and Lady apothecary line, which you can also buy (along with lots of other tempting trinkets and curios) at their apothecary shop on the ground floor. There was so much to see and explore, it made me wish I had more than just one night to stay in this hip little boutique hotel. Also, if you're hungry, check out the nearby Pizza Den, just a few minutes' drive away. One minor quibble: the AC unit - I couldn't tell if it was the one in my room or the one out in the hall - periodically made a loud hum as though a pump was running, which disturbed the otherwise quiet evening. read more

We drove here from Fayetteville on a Sunday because the internet said it would be open. We had been wanting to check out their apothecary. Arrived at 3:35 on Sunday 3/2/25 and it was closed. Not a soul in sight. The hours on the door confirmed that they were supposedly open Sundays 12-6. Except they weren't. Wasted trip. Not cool. read more

We had a fun Spring Break getaway at this lovely inn! We were aware that evening dining in Chester is slim pickings, so we brought food from M.J.'s Tin restaurant and used the little kitchenette to heat the meal. There was plenty of water, coffee, tea & snacks available in the common lobby area. We were able to schedule massages with Eden prior to our arrival and she was excellent! The stairs are a wee bit steep and there were many offers to help us get our things to the room, but we had packed lightly as had been suggested. Shopping the the apothecary was fun and I always find something made by the local artists ~ this time pottery. I can't say enough about the comfort of the beds, bedding, duvet & pillows! The towels and bathroom amenities are very high quality and plenty of room to shower and vanity areas to get ready. We explored the Chester area and it brought back many memories of our childhood in Mountainburg. I miss the "swinging bridge" and heard that there may be an effort to bring that back to the town! I loved hearing the train during the night since I heard it all my life at my home in downtown Mountainburg and our dad worked for the Frisco Railroad line. We ended with a great breakfast at the Chester cafe and would highly recommend it as well. I'm really happy that so much work has been exerted in order to bring attention to this unique little town. Beard and lady is a hidden gem is the small town of Chester. There is not much to do in Chester that isn't right at the hotel. We really enjoyed looking at all of the things in the hotel and hanging out on the back patio. We even built a small fire outside. The bathrooms were amazing! They were so clean, decorated awesomely and even had trials of all the things their store had to offer! The charcoal soap was amazing. Wonderful stay! read more

We really enjoyed this place. The hospitality was unsurpassed by any I've had before. Very clean and so accomodating to any needs we had. Morning coffee is provided with snacks. Breakfast was a little extra payment but very reasonable and worth it. It's fun to meet the other people that stay there too. read more

This is a *very* special place. I stayed for one night on a motorcycle trip. I was the only guest in the hotel that night which added to the intensity of the experience as a guest in the same place that has hosted likes of Jesse James and Bonnie and Clyde. You can get the gist of the place on the website. The entire place was beautifully restored, with the restoration leaving much of the Old West feeling. Each room has a theme ranging from Old West and Geisha to helping people deal with fears (fear of missing out, fear of dying) and other concerns such as writer's block. With the exception of one room, the bathrooms are communal (men and women) which adds to the authenticity of the place. The hallways are decorated with items and news articles from "the day" including an interesting print version of match.com. By now you hopefully understand that this is not a typical hotel. I was the only guest on the Sunday after Labor Day and that added to the intensity of the experience, especially when I got up in the middle of the night and walked down the hallway listening for Bonnie Parker. I loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. I would especially like to organize a reunion or other group event that allowed me to rent the whole place for a night or two and use the restaurant. It would also be great for a small wedding. Beard and Lady offers massage and some spa services. They also make their own products like soap and lip balm, the latter of which I used extensively on my 10-day Ozark and Texas motorcycle trip. The restaurant is only open on Fri/Sat so either plan around that, eat pizza or burgers in Mountainburg (about 10 miles away) or bring your own. read more

Our stay at the Beard & Lady Inn was one of the high points on our vacation in Arkansas. The owners have taken great care to keep the vintage feel throughout every room. Their attention to detail creates the rich experience of walking back in time without sacrificing modern comforts. Woven into the early 1900's setting, almost imperceptibly, are the comfort and security technologies that you would expect from a modern hotel. The Beard & Lady offered a unique peacefulness and rest that we didn't even realize our souls needed. We enjoyed our stay. It was very quiet and peaceful. The staff was very friendly and we appreciated how clean everything was.

We stayed for the weekend because we have friends in the area. It is so beautifully decorated, loved our room- the Wild West room and the owners were kind enough to put an extra bed in there for our 15 y/o son. We brought our own food and drink because there is easy access to the kitchen. Breakfast next door at the Chester cafe was delicious. The communal bathroom was so so clean and is private with the individual doors. We will definitely stay again! read more
