Our band stopped here during a weekend run because of some trouble with our old Chevy van, first off, the dude was cool. Suggested a fine dining establishment with breakfast selections, which was delicious. I believe it was called Dunkin Doughnuts? Anyway, after a while we headed back and upon arrival we were informed that a new part had to be purchased so the gentlemen left to retrieve it. We waited outside because it was a nice day, about ten minutes later we heard the roar of the beast and our old van rumbled out of the garage like a majestic creature. The beast lives. Crooks. Crooks.I had my car towed to their shop and the guy (Eric) gave me an estimate to replace the starter which was $700+. When i called other shops, the average estimate was $400. they thought since my car was already there they could take advantage of me, and charge double. I towed the car again -- to a new shop and saved 300+. By the way, they were more expensive than the honda dealer. the dealership price was cheaper!! unbelievable. Crooks. Gene and his crew have been caring for my family's cars for over 30 years. He is one of the few people in the car repair business that I trust and that is saying a lot. I have found they are competitive, but certainly not the cheapest. That being said, they use only the highest quality parts, I think all of the mechanics are skilled and certified, and they fix it right the first time. They fix what needs fixing and will make thoughtful recommendations for other things that should be fixed or kept an eye on. This is a different approach than other repair places. I just had brakes done on my wife's van and they machined the rotors, where most other shops would have just put new ones on to pad the bill. If you are looking for the cheapest fix or you are happy with duct tape as your normal acceptable repair - Beard Auto is not for you. If you want it fixed right with a long term solution - I recommend them. There is nobody else I can recommend in the area. read more

I'm writing this review in regards to the owner Gene. First off, do not ever consider doing business with this auto repair shop. I only gave it a one star because I had to type in something to post a review, otherwise I would have given it a negative five stars!!!! This man took in my son's car because it would idle high and die out. He never called my son for 1 month and that is when I told my 28 year old son to call him and see what is going on which he did. Gene the owner's answer was that they haven't found the problem yet but they think they might know what it is and that his current bill was 540 dollars without even knowing the answer yet!!!! As a retired elevator mechanic if I ever told a customer that you owe me 540 dollars and, by the way I didn't fix your elevator they would have told me to hit the road and never come back let alone pay me 540 dollars. Well I talked to Mr. Gene and he said he would waive the bill and we agreed my son would pick the car up that day. Little did this Gene character know I set up a tow truck to pick my son's car up to tow it to my own mechanic. My mechanic had the problem resolved by the next day and also did an oil change for the sum of 263 dollars. Here's where it gets real interesting, I drove out to my son's house 20 miles away to see if I could spot anything. We checked fluids and everything was up so I told my son to find a mechanic where he lived and have a mechanic by him look at his car. Enter Mr. gene!!!!! When I went to pick up the car from my mechanic he looked at me with a perplexed look. He checked the oil on the dip stick with no reading on it and did an oil change. He then told told me that there was no oil in the engine. Seems to me as though Mr. Gene was upset he wasn't getting 540 dollars for doing nothing, so he decided to destroy my son's car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bad,bad owner at Beard auto repair. A warning to potential customers, enter this place at your own risk. The sad thing is there are others out there like Gene. read more

Beard auto is amazing for their quickness, speed, and readiness when it comes to your vehicle. The only problem is that they half-ass every major job to the point where the "readiness" is just blatant rushing, and the work is shotty. I have tried beard 3 times and all times were terrible. They will set an appointment up no problem, they seem friendly at first, but then when time comes to look at the payment vs. Performance they fail on what I would call : Epic proportions. I had to pay nearly 1,700 to get my car fixed. After I received the keys I started the car and when I got to the stop sign my check engine light went off again. Not only that, but my car was making the exact same noise as when before I brought it in. Listen, that car guy you knew in high school, go to him in comparison to beard. This is because it's basically the same "professionalism" you receive. You get a guy that needs money, can do the job, BUT for SOME REASON that quote they told you now feels more like a tip at a restaurant because it's nowhere near what they said. I had a quote for 200 and it ended up being almost 500. Well this time (and you can tell by my inflection, my FINAL time with this shady business) I started my car and it made it how far before breaking down again? The lot. The beard parking lot. Boys and girls, this is a true story. My 1700$ payment I made reflected a used car purchase. What I'm received was my car, almost untouched. I made it off the lot and it broke down. Again, this was after I got the keys. So I asked JUST MOMENTS BEFORE: "no problems? No squeaks? Runs ok?" I was and assured it was fine. It took less than 60 seconds for my car to break down again. Even their customer service is awful, Jason hung up the phone on me for asking how his day was when I called one of my first times.....excuse me? I can't ask how you are? If you are doing so bad to the point where you don't want customers to walk into your terrible store then you got it! Because I will NEVER come back to these liars. They said they tested my car...but then they find problems when I bring it back not even 20 minutes later? Then why didn't you find these issues before?????. I know car guys. I'm just going to them from now on. Gene will walk away from you if you get too heated in front of him. Over 1600$ and not even 10 minutes on the road....yea....you can say I was a little upset. Did they drop the cost? No. Did they apologize immensely for the HUGE mistake? No. So goodbye . I will talk to honest, hardworking men that can admit when someone didn't do their job correctly. As a team, with my personal experience, beard completely failed to do what they say they do. If you want a belt fixed, go to beard. If you want your belt fixed and it STAYS fixed, throw a rock anywhere you are standing in their parking lot and I can guarantee you its a better option. read more

There seem to be quite a few people that just go down there to hang out and talk to him; I'm not surprised because he's such a cool guy. I am so appreciative that I found Beard Auto. I have always been 100% happy with the work they have provided. I like the family-owned feeling of the shop vs a chain store. Last night I took my car to get an oil change at NTB and they called me and said my car needed new break pads and rotors and it would cost $450. They told me my rotors were SEVERELY rotted and it is dangerous to drive my car. When I took it to Beard Auto, I was told that my break pads and rotors are FINE and the noise I was hearing was something simple (I'm not that into cars so I don't remember what needed to be fixed) and the total cost was $60! These guys have done EVERYTHING to both of my cars for over 10 years - I was referred to them by a friend of mine who was a client of mine - and the accountant / ffice manager at one of my consulting locations. Seems she had know Gene since she was a kid - and he also worked on all of their cars... long store short... This place is HONEST - efficient - consistant - and on time. If it needs fixed now - they will let you know - but they will also let you know if it can wait until later (30-60-90 days etc...). You don't get the feeling that they are just trying to add issues to the TODO list to make $$$$$. They are interested in LONG TERM HONEST relationships with their customers. I have referred probably 20-30 people to them over the last 5 years alone. If they don't / can't do something - speciality work / major body work / etc... they can help coordinate it with a company that they trust and do work with all the time.
