Return trip. Ran out of chicken so I'm coming back again. Smoked wings are delicious. Plenty to choose on tap

Being that I'm from VA and VA is not a state known for bbq, I figure it's fair to compare as a reference. Very expensive for smaller portions, and the food I would say is average. Not bad but not great, average. But very expensive for what you get. Customer service was decent.

As I still sit here and process what I had, I figured it would be easier to come to yelp and type it out... lol. As you enter in the smokehouse, you're met with the southern style smell of a truly delicious smokehouse with an abundance of smoked meats! I checked them out for a dinner snack and they did not disappoint. This place was recommended by a colleague and being from the south myself, I had to try things out! This is an order along the line type of place where employees treat you nicely. I imagine lunch here gets a little chaotic. So because I "judge" places based on their brisket, sausage, and Mac and cheese, I started with the essentials. - Burnt Ends: 8/10.... Good flavor, moist, Smokey, and tender - Texas Sausage: 8/10... good flavor, with cheese inside, but not the normal links I'm used to. -Mac and Cheese: 6/10... has a good taste but lacked a little salt and pepper... if they would cook the noodles in broth, they'd get an 8. Now... stick with me now, so because I read the menu and saw, Mac and cheese, pulled pork, battered in cornbread and fried... I failed temptation and got an order of "Bear Balls." And I was DISAPPOINTED . Too salty and missing something . Similar sitch with the banana pudding... decent for the region but not the southern classic I'm used to. However, I would return and try out additional meats... they seem to have that right!

A bear themed BBQ joint--yes please! I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was here, especially coming from the BBQ Mecca that is the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Bear Attack has everything you could ask for in a combo meal (Mac & cheese, cornbread, and your choice of meat) for a very reasonable price, and all parts of it were delicious! The Moink Balls were also a great appetizer, and the garlic parm sauce was a nice touch. The only miss tonight was the blueberry BBQ sauce, which I had on the side. It was overly sweet and needed something to help balance it out (maybe adding chipotle would make it spicy and sweet). Overall I couldn't have been happier with my meal though. If you're staying nearby, definitely try this place out!

Beef rib - weekend special

Very disappointed about Bear recently. It must have changed chef, or the grill master? We've loved Bear for over 10 years, the meat has always been the same & amazing, but it's changed recently & to the worse, much worse. The brisket looks different, the marinade has a reddish tint & tasted a little sweet where before it's black, peppery & no sweet taste at all. The worst part was how dry it was, very dry vs. used to be very moist, every time! This is not even half as good as the old Bear's brisket. The beef rib had been my favorite forever, but it's changed also. It's drier than before but not as bad as the brisket. It also tasted a little sweet, like slight amount of bbq Souse were used, previous beef rib was super juicy without any sweet taste. It's still yummy though, I'd rate this at 80% of what it was before were brisket at 50% of before. I should also mention I got sick for 5 days from after eating a recent take out order of Bear's pork ribs, it never happened before over 10 years of ordering Bear's take out. I think the quality of food freshness on some take out has gone down hill, that lead me to believe possibly more than the chef had changed, maybe the owner as well?

If you're looking for a spot that doesn't mess around, Bear's Smokehouse BBQ is where it's at. It's a total hidden gem that focuses on what matters--and they have so much to choose from on the menu. It's not trying to be "cute"; it's just a solid place with lots of meats that are consistently great. I've been coming here for a while and I have never had a bad experience. The food is solid every time, and it really hits the spot when you're craving real BBQ. If you want a reliable meal that does the job without the fluff, this is the place.

Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, but I went here anyway today and it was very good. Had a brisket and ribs family pack, shared with two other people. Wound up taking some home. Service is cafeteria style. Ribs were just right- tender but not "falling off the bone". Brisket was tasty and tender. Sides good too. Also good craft beer selection at the bar. Was pretty crowded on a Saturday at noon so people are aware it's a good deal.

Ask the Community - Bear's Smokehouse Barbecue

Anyone use them for a wedding reception? Are they reasonable in price? Thanks

I'd probably just call them myself to get pricing on something like that......And reasonable is relative.

(as the kids say) It was crowded despite being early evening. The only available seats were at the bar area near the windows, which was fine because we were determined to experience the "new" place. We ordered the tuna tartare and lobstah rolls. The accompanying chips are homemade (slightly salty, but my taste buds are really close together). The host was attentive and gave us the royal treatment. We put this gem back on rotation and we are definitely returning!!!

The textured walls are gorgeous and give the space a style it was definitely missing before. As usual, the happy hour menu never disappoints. The Pomjito is a personal favorite.. refreshing, light, and not too sweet. We also got the oysters and mussels, both solid. The mussel sauce was unique compared to a typical tomato base, which we really appreciated. For my entrée, though, I was disappointed to see that the tuna salad I always order had completely changed. It used to be an arugula salad with Asian flavors and the tuna served on top. Now it It's a Niçoise salad, and the tuna is awkwardly placed on the side. Nothing about the tuna tasted like it did before. I'm usually a sucker for ahi tuna, but this was honestly one of the most disappointing ahi dishes I've ever had. It felt totally incohesive with the salad next to it. I really wish they didn't change the menu so frequently. Once I finally find an entrée I genuinely look forward to, it disappears. That said, we'll still be back for the great happy hour food and solid drinks. Now it's just a matter of finding a menu item I like... and hoping they keep it.

I've been back 4-5 times since being introduced to it and I already have a fav - a sautéd shrimp bowl, hold the rice, double both the crack-n-cheese and sweet potatoes!!! The shrimp are HUGE & slathered in garlic butter! There's nothing wrong with the rice, but I'd rather fill-up on the crack (Mac) and sweets, both of which are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! The service borders on brown sugar sweet, the food comes up fast so you're not kept waiting. Their food comes up in paper bowls with a clear plastic top so you can see exactly what you're getting while maintaining 75-85% recyclability!!! All in all, they've earned (& continue to earn) my highest marks. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!! One foot note: Because all their food is made fresh daily, when if something runs out, it's out for that day. So, if you want to have dinner and you're coming by 15 minutes before closing, you might want to call ahead and see if they're out of anything you're jones-ing for!!!

I later found out they have other locations as well. When I arrived, I noticed this is more of a grab-and-go spot. There is no seating area for dining in, just a small waiting area with a couple of chairs. Parking is street parking, so keep that in mind when stopping by. I ordered in person, and I have to say the service was quick! Within about seven minutes, my food was ready. As soon as you walk in, you can see the menu and even see the kitchen area, which I always appreciate because you can get a feel for how your food is being prepared. The employee who greeted me was very friendly and welcoming. You can also order online. I ordered the seasoned rice, shrimp, mac & cheese, and collard greens bowl. First impression... the bowl looked beautiful and was put together very nicely. Everything looked fresh and appetizing. The shrimp was sautéed in a garlic sauce and had great flavor. The mac & cheese was definitely a highlight, very cheesy! When I put my fork into it, the cheese stretched and expanded the way you hope a good mac & cheese will. The collard greens were good, although I'll be honest, I've had better. They still complemented the bowl and added that classic soul food feel. At first glance, I thought, "Is this going to be enough?" But after eating it, I was completely satisfied and full. The portion was actually just right. The price was reasonable and within the range of what many restaurants are charging today. What makes this place stand out to me is that it tastes homemade and I love fresh food made with care. My only suggestion: PLEASE consider adding cornbread to the menu (hopefully soon ). A piece of cornbread would complete this bowl meal perfectly! Overall, I would definitely recommend Soul Bowl's. Great flavors, quick service, friendly staff, and that homemade comfort-food feeling. I'm already curious to try more from their menu! What should I try next?

Mon to Sat they open at 5am. I was only 10 minutes away from 6 but I figured they look like a place I'd want to eat at anyway and fate brought me to this awesome establishment. Upon entering it's not too bright and not too dark especially for this hour. The place looks immaculately clean. It's your typical diner feel just a little more modernish with the color scheme inside. Two breakfast bars and the rest booths and tables. Round stools at the bar for seating. The waitress greeted me and I just sat at the breakfast bar. I got a a coffee to start, nice med - dark roast. Not burnt and tasted freshly made, good quality Java to wake you up. Better than Dunkin could offer lol. For my breakfast I decided on the Crazy Good Hash and a side of sausage (they offer links or patties, I love my patties so that's what I chose). First bite was just amazing. I wasn't sure what to expect .. I low key was just thinking it would be the stuff from a can like other diners use but no.. you will not get that here. It was legit fresh corned beef... griddled with hashed potatoes .. it was light and flavorful, crispy crust and soft interior. Not drowning in sodium like the can stuff. The corned beef really just melted in your mouth, so juicy and tender just like a properly cooked corned beef should taste. It was just amazing and I was completely blown away. Paired together with high quality eggs and perfectly toasted with butter toast, there was not one bite left. I couldn't stop eating it. I was almost sad with my last bite .. but I was about to explode anyway since it was a very generous portion. I'm just a glutton when it comes to good savory foods. The sausage patties were great too .. nice crispy and juicy, good flavor profile, not herby like some .. I don't like those but these were great.
