Was in the area and stopped by here for a quick bite. The spot looked very trendy and inviting. The worker was super nice and friendly. I got the Hot Honey 2.0 with French fries and an extra side of banana pudding. My daughter got the naughty neighbor. I was so impressed how the chicken had a nice crisp and was so juicy with a perfectly balanced flavorful honey heat. The pink lemonade tasted clean. Was looking forward to trying this place. It seemed like their first consideration was trendy decor (it's not impressive) with premium prices, and their last consideration is how the food tastes. The chicken with a low heat level tasted of a strange rotating roster of 1) extremely salty and 2) bitter. The cole slaw was also bitter and was a small portion. My partner said the spice on the chicken seemed meant to cover up for not great chicken. It wasn't "just okay"; it was very nearly terrible in terms of taste. We both threw away half of our meals, which we have never done before. And it was expensive! Also, I ordered one banana pudding but didn't get it. When I told the young woman at the register that I didn't get it, her (odd) response was, "it's not on the receipt". Not, "I didn't hear you order that, my apologies", "Or, I missed that, let me get that for you" or even "I will find your receipt and we can check that". Just, "it wasn't on your receipt". (We were like six customers back, so how would she just automatically know this?") But she hadn't even given me a receipt so I could check. At the time of purchase, when the screen came up to print or email my receipt, she pressed the button for no receipt on her end. In fact I was reaching to select the paper method of receipt, but she appeared to intervene at the register side and that screen disappeared. I didn't think too much about it then, but I certainly noticed it. And I definitely noticed again when she said, "It wasn't on your receipt". So I had no receipt to show that the approximately $40 bill had included pudding. So I paid for a second time--another $5. The meal was therefore about $45 for just one sandwich (a sandwich only- not a meal), one cole slaw, one fountain drink, one banana pudding (which was just okay), and three chicken strips. Way too expensive! I also think I was ripped off at the register for the pudding which was just okay and seemed like canned pudding and non-dairy topping. The rest tasted terrible to the degree that we threw most of it away. Another thing- they appear to count the napkins and forks/spoons that you have to ask for, and they have to hand to you. It's a fried chicken place, for Pete's sake! Put napkins out on the tables and make them readily available to your customers. That alone is a ridiculously cheap and bad business practice. And they ask for a tip automatically at the register even though they don't have any wait staff. Pay your employees properly so they don't have to rely on tips or rip off customers. People shouldn't have to tip when there is no applicable service to tip. There are far, far, far tastier and affordable options out there for chicken. We won't ever go back. read more

The spicy chicken is so good here, I enjoy the spice level "hot", but the codebreaker is right at the threshold of pure pain. I always thought that hartford and west hartford can never have good places as this place, food came out fast, the guy taking my order seem like a really cool dude and the ambiance was as great as any other birdcodes. All of them are prepared in your choice of heat level (country, mild, medium, hot and code breaker). It all depends if you want zero cayenne pepper, or something between a sprinkle and a downpour of cayenne on your chicken. Fries, bowls, salads, and sides round out the menu, so you really have a tremendous choice for your meal. After I ordered, I took a seat and a few minutes later my food was delivered to my table. Updating my last review because there are menu updates like hot honey and nuggets which were not part of the earlier review. A few of my family members like the Mando with varied levels of heat. My youngest likes the strips. I am a fan of the Hot Honey 2.0 at medium level. Hot if I am feeling rambunctious. Crinkle fries rock and the mac n cheese is great. I think this place has become better as they go! Can't wait for Canton to open! Recently visited this place in West Hartford. The place had a few tables inside and a couple outside. A lot of the volu.e I saw was for pickup orders. The day I went all tables were taken and it was busy. Guy at the register was frie day, no complaints there. We got the tenders and classic sandwich w mild heat. This was definitely the right level of heat as it was spicy but not too hot. Definitely you need a drink to eat comfortably. I felt the chicken was on the greasy side, but that's just my opinion, with that said the chicken was very good. We also got the season fries which were good too. The fries were also surprisingly good for crinkle cut. I usually don't like those type of fries because they're not crispy enough but these actually retained crisp and also were so buttery. And the Mac and cheese was also amazing. I wouldn't say it's better than Panera Mac and cheese, like another reviewer said, but it's definitely close. It's different, less cheese, more buttery creaminess, but very tasty. Honestly, the banana pudding wasn't bad at all, it just didn't compare to the level of awesomeness that the other food items had. I ordered my tenders mild and even the mild had some heat to it. I would go up one level but I'd be too scared to try the hottest for sure! Chicken was next-level good. Perfectly cooked, juicy and tender, with the perfect amount of breading that was crispy and light. Easily the best fried chicken I've had in this area. The Mac and cheese was a little underwhelming - very good, just not the star of the show. Good portion size for what I paid. Chocolate chip cookie was to die for and was massive. Better than I was expecting for sure. Bakery quality. I got it delivered and everything was packaged really nicely. She had The Naughty Neighbor with mild chicken, Mac and cheese , and comeback sauce. She really enjoyed it. I had a taste and it was a great combo all around. I have a fairly high spice tolerance so I also had The Naughty Neighbor but with the Code Breaker hot chicken (their spiciest) w/ shake crinkle cut fries, comeback sauce, and cheese sauce. Best chicken sandwich you will ever have PERIOD! I am so happy Birdcode opened in West Hartford! My husband and I ordered online for lunch and were so impressed. First, my husband picked up our order and couldn't stop raving about how nice it was inside! He said pick up was very efficient and very covid cautious. Secondly, omg the chicken! Chick Fil A and Popeyes have NOTHING on Birdcode's Sando (Chicken) Sandwich! We could not stop talking about how juicy the chicken was and how amazing the coding was! I read reviews saying if you can't handle too much spice- get the mild. My husband opted for that and loved it but I got a little bold and got the medium and absolutely LOVED it! I love spicy food and this was the perfect amount of kick while still able to enjoy your meal. My husband loved their ranch too. He begged me to throw that into this review haha! It was really good- possibly homemade (my husband said it HAD to be homemade). It was a nice touch to our sandwich and fries! Their Mac and cheese was also amazing as well! This is some hot chicken. I like hot chicken. After doing my own research, I had high expectations walking into this place. Expectedly, the expected expectations...........were expectedly met. I was blown away by quality of EVERYTHING. The brand promotion, the take-out boxes, the HD-TV menus, the painting on the wall, the uniforms, the take-out bags, the curbside pick up spaces, nothing was cheap! It's almost like this is some sort of chain from a multimillion dollar corporation. Outstanding! The owners have done their research, studying and traveling just so they can bring the perfect hot chicken recipe back to Connecticut. They must have their doctorate in hot chicken or something because this thing was a 10/10. My mild chicken sandwich was crispy and exxxtra juicy. The chicken was just so meaty and tender while the outside gave me this mildly spicy layer of crunchy breading on the outside. The chicken itself is like a gift from the outside world. I could not even react when I took my first bite. It was like I saw a ghost. The fries were crispy and had absolutely no grease whatsoever on them. Like they were baked, they probably were. Such a classic move. Genius owners. The best thing about this experience is the difference between here and Chick-fil-A or Popeyes. I always feel like absolute garbage after eating a fried chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A or Popeyes but for the first time. I felt like I just ate a grilled chicken salad.
