I called Bearsville Garage and heard the voice of someone who instantly put me at ease. After sending a video of the horrific scraping sound taken the night before, I was told to come in, and they would take a look at the problem and, if need be, order the part and hopefully have it done by day's end! We drove to Bearsville Garage, where we were greeted by the owner, Joe, who was knowledgeable, experienced, and Kind. We are from Manhattan, so it is great to know that there is someone we can rely on when we are in this area. The noise had stopped on our way to the garage, and we learned it was a stone caught in the brake system. After a thorough examination with an explanation of the brake system, because we asked many questions, our problem was quickly understood and solved, and we were on our way. Had our 1978 VW Westy there right after we purchased it. It was literally the first oil change and…read morethey claimed they found metal in the oil and we needed an engine replacement. In retrospect we should have gotten a second opinion and ran it longer to figure out what was going on. Euronutz was extremely slow and as a result took months to do the work and had the bus sitting out in snow and salt causing rust to a bus that was in really great shape before. To make matters worse the new engine has never run well since. It has less power than the original engine. We also got exhaust fumes in the cabin through the heater. To remedy the issue Euronutz disconnected the heat pipe and plugged it with a red solo cup. It had to go back multiple times after as there were plenty more issues (like a improperly connected decel valve etc) All in all not only did we waste +$6k on the work, we also have a bus now that is worse than before the work. If you have an old VW, I'd personally find a different mechanic to work on it. Hans at H&H in Magaretville is a lot better with old VWs and id highly recommend him over Euronutz!

Well, they sold me a battery then said they weren't comfortable swapping them out. They recommended a nearby shop but, once I drove there, that shop refused to install someone else's battery and wanted to charge me over $700 which seemed really fishy. So I was stuck with a $200 battery and a truck I couldn't turn off. Gave someone else a call and they recommended E. Mower & Son. These mechanics couldn't have been nicer.
