You can teach an old dog new tricks when your teacher is Terry! So I brought in my daughters to possibly upgrade an old guitar for one new player and repair that same one to give to another. There are plenty of choices but knowing Terry plays guitar professionally is a huge comfort. Plus I had purchased before from BSM and I wanted my daughters to get a lesson on local purchase from a professional and someone who cares. We have been to other places and even though they try if you have the time Terry will hook you up NOT just try to sell you something. Well he asked my budget and then one guitar was picked (on the low end mind you) and Terry said to my daughter whats the first thing that comes to mind. Thumbs up or down. My daughter had thumbs up. Terry made sure it fit and I asked for a little higher end. Again he was mindful of my budget and asked if my daughter liked red. Another thumbs up. Terry spent so much time. He taught all of us new tricks. I and my daughters were both impressed. One being a bachelors of Music recent graduate. Terry made sure that guitar was going out the door in tune, perfect intonation and with extras. Well I deemed the original project guitar we came into fox for my other daughter as her first was pushing close to a new. Again Terry helped and kept on the lower end. I upped it again and Terry pulls out a green Tele with racing stripes . My daughter was ear to ear. We made sure it fit. Tested it and I asked Terry if we could pick up the next morning. Well this old dog was brought in his guitar and Terry helped yet again pointing out what could have ended up in a broken truss rod do to my error. Well that guitar never sounded so good when he was done. On top of it I was struggling looking for my own tone. Terry had a guitar that was his he had modified. He asked if I would like to see it. He had been struggling with deciding to part with it. When I started to play it my daughters said "Dad why don't you play like this at home?" I never buy used. I am anal about even who touches my guitar at home. I wouldn't even let my neighbor play it. Terry and Beat street music is special. He showed me too about a slight adjustment on holding a pick. You can teach an old dog new tricks when you work with a guru. Please note don't go in there in a hurry. Its a one man operation and if your spending time and money on an investment for an instrument you need to take time. Music is an art and really shouldn't be rushed or someone else's opinion. Terry Vickery is the best in the business with everything that he does: sales, service, customer service, repairs, modifications, or just advice. No one else has worked on any of my instruments for about 30 years. He treats every customer as if they are the most important person in the world, whether you're buying a 5 figure instrument or a set of guitar strings. I've moved out of the Syracuse area, but I know that I could send him a bass and tell him "you know what I like" and he would send it back set up perfectly for me and my playing style. I started playing guitar late in life one year ago as a Covid project, and Terry was extremely helpful in picking out a starter acoustic for me. A few days ago, in celebration of a milestone birthday, I decided to go electric, and again Terry devoted several hours to getting the right guitar into my hands, selecting a basic amp, redoing the strings, and explaining everything I needed to know about this equipment. I can't recommend him highly enough, and I much doubt there is much that one can know about guitars that Terry doesn't. read more

Not going to lie, i'm a little biased. My dad works here, i've known the owner since I was a baby, hell I even worked here for a few years during College. I'm currently living/working in Los Angeles and have gotten to see other shops and meet other "music industry" people. While there are no doubt some other fantastic music stores out there, Beat Street is still one of my favorites. Very cool gear for beginners to pros (entry level stuff all the way to amazing high-end equipment such as Bogner amps, Goodall guitars), the guys that work there are great and know their stuff. Terry (owner) knows more about this stuff than pretty much anyone I know or have met. Their repairs are fairly priced and they do great work, easily among the best. It's a real pleasure to go to a good old fashioned locally owned music store. I bought a beautiful acoustic guitar there. I figured I probably gotten it for less online but I looked and I got it from Terry for about $200 less than it was selling for online. Terry is also very knowledgable about guitars, not like the people at Guitar Center and those places. read more

Terry spent a good two hours with me to help me pick out my first guitar, which I am very appreciative of since I am just learning how to play guitar as an adult and really had no clue what I was doing. I love Beat Street Music ! I've been dealing with Terry on and off for over 20 years. I bought a new "96 Cal., Fat Strat HSS" in the fall of 96. In 1998 I had Terry pull a "Fat 59" from under the counter and install it in my axe and set it up, changing it to an "HSH Cal., Fat Strat". I love this guitar, it plays and sounds great. I sold my Tele and my LP custom, but kept the "Strat". I have a 1981 Fender 12 string acoustic that I purchased from a relative who left the guitar in a closet for over 10 years w/o a case. The neck was warped and looked beyond repair. No problem for Terry who I found to be a very qualified luthier as he repaired and set this old guitar up for me with a new nut and set up. I also still have this guitar and I love it, it is my favorite acoustic and he did this around 2002, and she still holding up strong. I also purchased an acoustic guitar from Terry back in 2005 which he set up for me and installed an under the saddle pick up. I have beat the guitar up a little, but it plays and sounds great to this day. I have also purchased accessories from Terry and prefer to buy in person rather than online. He is always there ready to give sound advise and quality service. I recently sent a friend over from work who was having trouble setting his hard tail bridge. Terry adjusted his guitar while he waited and sent him out the door,. I just purchased locking tuners for my "Strat" they don't quite fit and the headstock needs to be modified for installation, Terry said " bring the neck in and I will modify it while you wait so your tuners will drop right in'.
