Upon a past visit a woman in a leadership role, who had a British accent, asked if I would volunteer to make popovers. I politely declined and explained that I was on vacation and preferred to support the café as a donating customer. Her response surprised me. She immediately went into a rant about millionaires, suggested I look at the multimillion-dollar homes up the street, and seemed to make assumptions about me and why I wasn't volunteering. I'm not a millionaire, but more importantly, I don't think anyone should have to explain or defend why they choose to be a patron rather than a volunteer. You can have a wonderful social mission while still treating visitors with dignity, kindness, and respect. The interaction was odd, unnecessarily aggressive, and really turned me off to the place. For a very different experience, we enjoyed Clark Point Café across the street--the food was excellent, and the people were genuinely warm and friendly.

I 'met' Chris on-line via the NAWCC several years ago. When I learned that he operated a clock…read morerepair business, I asked him if he could inspect and hopefully repair the movement of a vintage late 1920's 'spin start' electric clock that had completely petered out. Being that I live in San Francisco, I shipped the clock back East to him to do whatever was necessary. That was 4+ years ago and this wonderful clock that once belonged to my brother has been keeping time flawlessly ever since. Update to 2022... I contacted Chris again in late October with several antique 'clock movement' issues. So far, I have shipped out a Lenzkirch and Gustav Becker movements for repair. And alas, a few more clock movements will need his attention as well... I just received the Lenzkirch clock movement back on November 4 and it is up and running/chiming perfectly! Thanks Chris! I've been collecting clocks for the last 25+ years and I feel fortunate to have found a clocksmith that I can trust to do right with my clocks!

For me a good Upholster has to be skilled at his work, but also understand your vision and be willing to do any job even if they may not agree with the idea. They also can't be dicks. I don't like giving my money to asshole.I have restored many cars and have used Upholsters from LA to Portland. I have to say Bob is up in my top 3 of upholsters and the only guy I will use in the rouge valley .They have done two cars for me this year and number three is going in next week. His turn around time is quick and the attention to detail is great and honestly he's a really nice guy. If your looking for an Upholster and can't decide on who to use do not hesitate to use Harmon's. He won't loose your parts,he won't take months to finish, he will not take your money up front, you will not need to babysit him or check in on him, all you have to do is schedule the job and drop it off. He will finish on time and the prices are fair. Also he's drug free, which lets face it that's a problem in the classic car industry. I had a Upholster in Portland trade all my 62 impala seats and console for drugs once. So yes drug free is a must for me. Here are some photos of the last job he did for me.
