You know what I discovered yesterday? 1.) While I have been to karaoke once before, I definitely had the time of my life while doing it at Beats Karaoke and that 2.) I love karaoke overall as it is truly addictive-lol. Add the fact that I was going to engage in this activity with two great people (Kemi A. and Mei.C.) that I always have fun with and it summed up to everyone enjoying themselves! Beats Karaoke is located in Williamsburg conveniently across the street from Williamsburg Cinema. The first floor has a bar area that you can order drinks from while singing karaoke as the words form on the large tv screen placed there. It was quiet and not busy when we walked in so staff allowed us to be placed in one of the larger karaoke rooms that Mei selected (seats around 10 people). There are multiple karaoke rooms of various sizes great for a date with someone, couples, small and larger groups. We were very comfortable as we had space to spread out and it allowed us to be able to dance while we sang/rapped....Yes, we busted out our best dance moves-lol. When you check-in on Yelp, you receive a free liquor shot. Beats Karaoke also has a drink menu. You are able to bring in outside food so we munched on some while taking turns individually singing as well as "performing" in duos as well as a trio. Beats Karaoke has lighting settings, disco balls, etc. that create the illusion that you are at a disco party-lol. Inside of each karaoke room is a tv screen so you can sing/rap words.of the songs, some tamborines, microphones and music books listing various songs by artist as well as by title of the song. Once we looked into the books and selected songs, we had to press the numbered code into the remote that identifies that song so that the music and words will appear. Boy did we sing and rap, rap, rap-lol. Everything from Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Rihanna, Monica, Vanilla Ice (Yes, definitely Ice, Ice Baby-lol), Nick Jonas, Bruno Mars, Britney Spears, Bell, Biv, Devoe-(Yes to song Poison any day), DMX, 50 Cent and of course my favorite Prince....Yes, karaoke is addictive!-lol. We had a two hour time slot....one minute we were about 15 minutes into our session and the next thing I know we only had 4 minutes left! So what did we do? Website says private rooms are $30/hr for up to 3 people, with an additional $10/hour per additional person. Walked in here on a Saturday night and they tried to sell us a room for $120/hr. Only 3 people in my party: me, Lisa, and Mark. Next time, I tried to call and make a reservation for a Saturday night. They wanted to charge $40/hour for 3 people despite what the website says. I enjoyed my time there. It was my first time going to this spot. It was okay. I liked our private room. And they had some good old songs! They don't have a hard alcohol license which we didn't know about prior to going but they had wine which my friends and I still enjoyed. The reason I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because of how we were told we had to leave. When we got there we were told that we could have the room for as long as we wanted but then we were told that we had to leave when we reached 2 hours. Whole we were singing a song we were told that it was our last song. We didn't get a warning prior to singing the song. My friends and I were a bit disappointed because we were enjoying ourselves. I love karaoke! I'm not so sure I like to embarrass myself per se but I enjoy seeing others sing. On occasion booze has been known to convince me that I should have been a punk rock star. Damn you booze! This particular Monday I had a hankering for karaoke and I was not impressed. You have to pay for a room here which is fine but my posse was only 3 people. I was also feeling under the weather. There was already a couple and a group of girls at the bar. I thought that's cool. All the small groups can be one big group. Boy was I wrong. There were two bartenders and they encouraged everyone to sing. We had no idea every song cost money! We bought a couple pitchers and we thought the over priced pitcher would cover our songs. Then if that wasn't bad enough... the mic was barely on. I get it it's a neighborhood. But maybe you should sound proof this place and let people have fun. Karaoke in Willamsburg Brooklyn? I'm gamed. Had a great time singing our hearts out and belting our favorite tunes. Reserved a week in advance a private room for an early Sunday weekend (It's cheaper). Got there as they opened and the waitress let's me select room sizes for our private Ktv experience. As we got down to the basement level; there are at least eight rooms to choose from. Since I could pick and choose I decided on the midsize for me and my Yelp ladies. The room includes disco strub lights and some tamberines for added fun. Song selection is pretty vast ranging from the massive Beatles collection to R&B, 90's hip-hop and the newest current tracks. There's a little timer on the tv screen as the room is set to expire in two hours. Outside food is allowed and the wait staff helps with the clean up afterwards. You cannot bring your own liquor. My husband LOVES karaoke and wanted to celebrate his birthday by doing so. We had an amazing time! The staff was so friendly and so accommodating. Although the time says they close at 12, they are flexible in their closing hours. We didn't leave until almost 2AM and they did not rush us. They allowed us to bring in outside food and alcohol because they do not have a full bar, which was amazing! Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back again! THIS IS A LOVELY PLACE TO GO AND SING BUT THEY CLOSE TOO EARLY We really enjoy going here and sing Karaoke often all over the city and in Williamsburg. They have a great book of songs but they close way way too early. Guys, you could be making money hand over fist if you stayed open until 4AM on weekend (at least in the rooms) and 2AM on weeknights. You should consider it. It's actually necessary. People would come after they go to other bars and you'd have an entire other night of business and revenue as some like to have a couple drinks as an appetizer before singing. That's kind of the model in my humble opinion and I know we would have stayed until 4AM on several occasions and bought many more pitchers of beer and whatnot if we would have been allowed to. I was really disappointed with this place. I came on a Monday night, and there were about 5 other people at the bar. We were given a piece of paper and picked a song. The mics were on, but they had turned the volume WAY down. Like can't even hear yourself in the mic at all. It was basically people just singing at the bar and the microphone was acting as a prop. We asked about this and were told that the mics were working and the volume was fine. We asked a few other times, because part of the fun of karaoke is using a sound system. They eventually admitted they had been getting noise complaints and would not turn it up any louder. Really? They really should have thought of this when they opened a karaoke bar. The bartender kept doling out song tickets, three or four at a time. We had zero idea you had to pay per song. Apparently you get a free song per drink, and we had a few pitchers. I figured based on the fact that the bar was empty and that she was pushing the songs on us, they were included. We had a really big bill at the end and it seemed a little sneaky. Very interesting place...to say the least. One drink = buys you a song at this karaoke bar. The staff is very polite & very Asian and applaud you even though you probably didn't deserve it. It's kind of cool to see a noraebang (karaoke bar with private rooms) with a communal bar where everyone can just sing without renting a room. I have never seen that before. I suppose Americans just have to warm up to the idea of noraebang. They have a very wide song selection and it's a good place to make new friends if your on Grand St. Would I ever come here again? It was such a nice place to spend my night with friends I haven't seen for a while. Workers there were very helpful and friendly from the moment we stepped in. Bar was cash only but they had atm in the store so it was ok. It was so much fun everybody in the bar sing bunch of good songs and have fun. We moved to their private room later because the bar was getting full but the private room was the best part there!!! The room was spacious so anyone who's singing could stand up there and dance lol But it felt intimate at the same time when we sit on the couch and chat. We were able to just have fun without concerning anything. Servers were keep checking on us if we need anything and took care of us very well. They came to our room so fast when I press the bell to order drinks. They made sure if we all get our drinks we ordered even though there were literally 20 different kinds of drinks. To be honest I'm not a big fan of Karaoke but stopped in a few weeks ago to meet a friend and ended up having a good time with some fellow crooners at the bar! They have good drink prices and I'm pretty sure you get a free song with your first order. I didn't see a food option but I'm sure like most bars you could bring it in or get it delivered. The interior is pretty open and unassuming with private rooms on 2 levels for larger groups. The staff was really friendly and it seems like a cool addition to the neighborhood. If i'm with some friends or coworkers and looking for something different to do this seems like a nice option. This is just a review of the bar, not the private rooms. Went in at about 8:30 on a Friday night. Not many folks were there, but everyone at the bar was having a good time, egging each other on. The staff was super friendly and there was a Buy a Drink, Get a Song deal going on. Not too bad. But the thing is, you could've heard someone fart on the other side of the room. The volume was so low, on both the speakers and the mic, that unless you were actually screaming, it sounded like whispering. The bartender explained that they received too many noise complaints to actually turn the speakers or mic up. Wait a second. Is this karaoke bar? Not really. Not unless you wanted to do a conversational-rendition of 'I Would Do Anything For Love'. The hand dryer in the bathroom down the hall was louder than the music coming out of the speakers. And if you think I am exaggerating, by all means, go check it out for yourself. I bet the private rooms are more fun. The song selection is pretty rad. $6 for a draft beer. All in all, this place could be a good time. But until they turn the music up and stay open later - this place is gonna be the biggest let down for anyone itching to belt out a tune with friends. You should just pay for the cab to Insa, in Gowanus. Not only is the food good, the wine great and the scorpion bowl deadly, but the rooms are bad ass and the prices fair.
