Prior to coming, thankfully I had made a reservation on resy because the place (huge space) was fully seated by the time we arrived at our reserved time! I personally liked the passion fruit over the ginger because it was sweeter and had a floral scent to it! What's a night of soju drinking without some jeon(pancakes)!! We love a good kimchi jeon! It was crispy and light with a nice kick from the kimchi! Moving onwards to the BBQ, we were looking forward to trying the wagyu trio, but sadly they were all out! Our server suggested the kkot deung shim and it did not disappoint! This was a dry aged, grass fed rib eye and our server cooked it well (leaving a slight pink in the center)! We also got some tangsuyuk and carbonara to share and to end the night, we had some coconut gelato. Servers were extremely friendly and attentive, and made us aware of the amazing specials they have like $20 off bottles of wine on Weds & Thurs which we definitely took advantage of! Closed Mondays & Tuesdays Really nice place to celebrate a birthday. We came here with a group of 8 and got a karaoke room for two hours. Someone walked us into the room and explained all the rules even though only half the group had arrived. You can download an app to control which songs to put on next if you do not want to flip through the book they have there. You must ask for the wifi password before you can download the app. The man who kept coming in to refill our water and take empty plates out was very attentive. I had no problem with the service during the karaoke portion of the night. We got a passion fruit soju bowl (8/10- probably would not get this again), melona cocktail, high noons (which come in orders of 4, 8,10) , and fried mandu. Both the vegetable and meat mandu were good. I actually preferred the vegetable mandu more. The sauce it came with was also very good. At times, the bathroom like got long because there are only 2 bathrooms. We walked past the very cozy bar section and had to leave for an hour because the barbecue section was so fully booked. (There's a cute brewery across the street) Fast forward, one hour later, we were seated at our table. Everything is very open. One thing that surprised me was they only had ginger ale. For dinner, we got pajeon, which is a pancake with garlic and chives. Everyone enjoyed this and we eventually ordered a second one. For BBQ, we got galbi, pork belly, shrimp, and an order of mushroom. Surprisingly, the mushroom order came with a variety of mushrooms and was my favorite thing that night. Our waitress came by the table to see if we wanted anything before the kitchen closed. I also appreciated her telling us to be careful when she was switching the hot BBQ plates. The banchan was "bottomless", but if was hard to get a refill. We got a brownie sundae for my friend's birthday and it smelled very good. It was served in a hot plate to warm the brownie, so the wax actually melted too. We wanted to surprise my friend, but the waitress came by and asked if we wanted any desserts besides the surprise cake. What should have been a nice 50th birthday dinner for my sister-in-law turned out to be a disappointing experience due to the very rude manager, Moxy. Moxy wasn't pleasant from the very beginning of our visit, starting with the seating arrangement. After we finished our meal, our server asked if we wanted dessert and said he would come back to take our order. Instead, Moxy came over with the credit card machine. I explained that we were waiting to order dessert, and she responded very passive-aggressively, saying, "Oh, you can go to the bar and eat it." Excuse me? Why would we be offered dessert if we were expected to eat it at the bar especially after spending over $400? [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was also with older people who most certainly wouldn't have been comfortable at a bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After that exchange, I approached Moxy to speak to the manager, only for her to say she was the manager. I calmly explained how unpleasant our experience was, and she dismissively said, "Oh, I didn't know he offered you dessert." Even after I clarified that our server had offered us dessert, she remained rude. It's unfortunate how one person's poor attitude can ruin an entire evening. On top of that, the food was not that good and certainly not worth the price. Later, she came over to our table after the incident, offering us the dessert for free something she had previously said we couldn't have at the table and even took some items off our bill. Although I appreciate the gesture, it was a little too late, and my sister-in-law didn't even want to stay for the dessert because the night was already ruined. I will never come back here or recommend this place to anyone. Words of advice to the owner: get your manager some customer service training. This is not how you treat customers. read more

The real star was the dessert - like a mochiko cake with berry reduction and a nice little scoop of vanilla ice cream. Very disappointing dinner for a hefty price point My friends and I came for a dinner for three at Insa on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was very pleasant and had a more of an opened layout which was nice. We ordered some KBBQ - Galbi, Mushroom Platter and the Pork Belly. In addition, we got some appetizers - the fried mushrooms and spicy pork ribs. Out of all of the food, the spicy pork ribs were the most memorable and everything else was simply disappointing. The server was cooking the entire time at the table, and when I say the entire time, I meant the entire time. They were flipping the meat the whole time until it was done and off the grill. It was very awkward because usually they step away and come back to check. The portion size of the meats were also very small... there was only 6 thin pork belly slices (more like bacon strips) for $32. The mushroom platter which had no flavor whatsoever, $30. The Galbi which was $48 was also small in portion size. We all left feeling hungry because there was simply not much to eat from each plate. Occasion : my friend's B-day dinner. Group of 10. The decor here is very sleek and minimalist. Festive atmosphere. The place insisted that all of us be there for our 8:30pm reservation. Few of us hanged out by the bar. When the time came, they were still able to sit us minus one person. Drinks: The most impressive cocktail was the Jade Emperor (we got 4 of them) It was made from Pisco, matcha (not a strong flavor) with a strong cucumber taste. Very refreshing! Eastern Lights were also a hit for those preferring to drink vodka. Food: We were confused at first about how to proceed. All credit goes to our server Justin who guided each of us with our choices. We all ordered an item for BBQ and shared family style. Food was made tableside with accompanied side dishes. He gave good suggestions. Here is what we loved from the menu: -THE RIBEYE. It ran for $45. But it was so flavorful, so tender. -Beef Tartare. Surprisingly so so delicious! Probably my favorite dish -Yangnyum Galbi. Beef short rib. A good option after the rib, had a BBQ flavor. -Dolsot Bibimbap with bulgogi. Came in a good portion! -Japchae. Loved the glass noodles! -Samgyeopsal. thinly sliced pork belly. looked like bacon. still good! Cons: the biggest cons is obviously the price. Our bill came down to a whopping $596. I has such a great experience here. I tried a whole bunch of things on the menu, starting with the candied sardines and the ban chan. The sardines are such a fun flavorful snack and I wish I could have a bag of them to snack on while watching tv. I loved all of the banchan especially the pickled pear. The tangy potato salad was also an interesting twist. I'm not a huge kimchi person but the plain kimchi here was so delicious I couldn't stop eating it. I also got the tteokbokki which had a really pleasant texture and a decent amount of heat, as well as the dumplings and the fried mushrooms. The deep fried mushrooms was probably my favorite item I tried. The flavor is subtle but delicious and the lemon honey sweetness cut the richness of the deep fat fried mushrooms well. The dumplings were ok, I loved the deep fried crispy exterior which reminded me of a fried wonton. I also had the kimchi budae which was predictably fantastic because their kimchi is just so balanced and delicious. The interior of this restaurant is so cute and comfy. If you're not getting bbq you can sit in the bar area which has big soft booths and such a nice atmosphere. I stayed here for way longer than I normally would have and kept eating more food just because it felt so cozy and pleasant to sit there and chat. I went here because I originally wanted to go to Mokbar but I didn't realize they aren't doing dine in right now so I just went to another Korean restaurant closest by, but I definitely will be returning because everything about my experience here was amazing. read more

The pictures i posted look 10x better then the actual food. Chicken was either dry or raw in center, squid salad was ok, the jap chae was probably the beat dish. I got so disappointed and disgusted i didnt even bother taking pictures of the pork belly(flavorless) or the galbi(states marinated, but flavor is missing ‍) Came for a group dinner with a prefix menu that was 75$ a person. Everyone left hungry and the it was only one small plate of galbi and one small plate of pork belly to share between 10+ people. We complained and got one more portion each but so dissatisfied. The same 75$ at another korean bbq would give one plate of galbi a person at least. The staff seemed depressed and not attentive, the bathrooms was dirty - i mean there was still poop in the toilet from how many people before?? To be honest, i been here 2 years ago and i dont know what happened, menu has changed, staff changed over, prices are outrageous, and portions are made for small children. read more

I wonder if Sohui Kim is aware of how the food has dipped in authenticity to the point where I can't taste the difference between the food from Insa versus buying the food at H-mart instead. I think I can buy better pre-prepared/frozen food from any Asian supermarket than what was prepared for me today. Maybe the food can pass for some uncultured fans of this place, but I've been able to access enough authentic Korean restaurants in this city to know I'm getting completely overcharged for something and it's just disgusting to me. In addition, the service was so dismal that the wait staff was clearly overworked and not even greeting the tables properly or cracking a single forced smile during service. +Didn't want to help bbq our meat. + Ran out of water at our table with no refills. + One of the bathrooms didn't flush. ‍ What a shame. Our dining experience at Insa was a "mixed bag". The food was good; the location convenient; our server bad. It was my first time at the restaurant. My family had frequented it many times, having a good experience each time. The Gowanus restaurant's decor was modern simplicity. There was a separate, small Karaoke Room with glitzy lighting covering all the walls and cushy seats. The menu had less choices than other restaurants in the Tri-State area featuring Korean cuisine. But there were an adequate number of entrees to meet our needs. We placed an order with our server, which included wine. The banchan consisted of 5-6 dishes. It was tasty. But a little more would have been appreciated. After what seemed to be way too much time, we asked our server about the wine. She gave us a strange look and returned shortly afterwards with the glasses. There was no apology or acknowledgement of the delay. I had the Cabernet, which was good. My Grandson and I ordered the Bibimbap with Bulgogi. A different server, who my family was familiar with, brought our selections. They were both Doisot Bibimbap. She was very pleasant and immediately took away the incorrect dishes. When the familiar server returned with the correct entrees, my daughter in law told her that "things seemed to be a little out of sorts today", referring to the demeanor and performance of our server. Shortly afterwards our server came to the table and not very pleasantly said "Is everything all right?" My son ordered Boseot Modeum, from the BBQ section of the menu. It looked fabulous and is a "must try" for my next visit. The Bibimbap was also very good. I'd never say no to an opportunity to try a new Korean bbq spot. The indoor dining is great, clean, and very spacious. The staff was delightful and very thorough with all the items we ordered. The fried chicken were amazing! Would definitely come back just for that. The seafood pancake could be more packed. We ordered short rib, shrimp, and mushrooms to grill for the table. I wish we had the opportunity to grill it ourselves - I feel like that's the charm of Kbbq and it just felt wrong having some one do it for us hibachi style. I also would prefer to have the bbq items pre-seasoned (or give us the option of how we would like to season it by spice level) - although not bad - just tasted sort of bland. The bibimbap was a miss. The entire bottom of the bowl was full of crispy inedible rice and I'd prefer to have it come out and mixed for me. It was just too messy to mix it ourselves for the entire table as you have to do it standing up and the bowl is really hot. read more

I understand being more experimental outside of the traditional banchan that Korean restaurants serve but it just wasn't good.. The kimchi also tasted really mediocre and flavorless - like something cheap from a grocery store. It's a nice looking restaurant but don't waste your time here. this is for the karaoke experience and the karaoke experience only. i booked a reservation here for the a karaoke room with 7 people for my bf's bday and here are the pros and cons of my experience pros - prompt service: they have a button which you can press for service and they were very responsive and brought our orders quickly! - good selection of music: they got most all the songs up til like late 2021/2022 - rooms: the room wasn't big but it was clean and the seats were arranged in a way that we could all see each other! cons - they tried to keep our cake: i brought a cake to be cut (they have a cake fee btw) and they took it to the kitchen, brought it out half way thru our reservation with candles, took it back to slice and bring it out - all of which was great. EXCEPT they gave us the tiny slices, which FINE but then despite asking twice where the rest of the cake was, was ignored and then had to flag down the hostess as we were leaving to ask her to give us the rest of the cake. there was over half left! they tried to swipe that ish and that really rubbed me the wrong way - bad speaker: i don't know if it was just our room but we kept getting this loud popping sound and despite flagging it twice, it did not get fixed. they did knock off like $30-50(?) off the final bill but it did ruin a lot of the songs we were singing - app/remote: you do have to download an app to access the songs which is convenient once you set it up but i wish their remote service was better so you werent just passing around someone's phone overall, i'd come back here if i'm looking for karaoke in the area but definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come back especially when there are SO many other options in the city. read more
