Simply…read moreput you can't begin to understand the region until you learn about the relationship of the water to the land and Captain John was exceptional in accomplishing this during our two hour private boat tour. I think Dolphin Adventures is a bit of a misnomer. Yes we saw dolphins close up a mother and her kids but the highlights was the ecology of the area. We learned about how everything works together in this environment , sat right over and oyster bed and learned the history of oyster farming. Viewed homes from the water and learned their stories and history. Captain John pointed out more bird species than I suspect most people see on a birding tour. The two hours went by so quickly we were sad to see the tour end. If we return to Beaufort we definite would take another adventure with Captain John. If you only do one thing in Beaufort take this tour. It was one of the highlights of our two week swing through Beaufort Savannah and Charleston. Not to be missed!!!!

No trip for us to check out a place would be complete without seeing what boating clubs were…read moreavailable. We're big on boating of all kinds and always want to know where the best places might be to keep a boat, have some fun amenities available and to meet some like-minded friends. We were very impressed with the facilities here which were nicely thought out and minus the snooty attitude found at some yachts clubs. Although there are no slips for boats (slips being our preference), the moorings are such that it would be easy enough to get out to one's boat. There are tennis courts here, a nice sized pool, kayaks and canoes for club members to use if you don't have your own, and a very attractive clubhouse with bar. Seems like the club hosts all kinds of events too which is something our current yacht club offers and that we appreciate. It's a great way to meet people. We were given the grand tour by one of the owners, an extremely affable man by the name of Milledge, who coincidentally told us he left SC for a time to live in Massachusetts but wisely returned home to run this terrific family owned facility. This is a yacht club with the feel of being a summer camp for grown-ups. The boating season is long in SC which is part of the draw for us; it's so relatively short here in New England. We loved the vibe, we loved the views and the amenities are very much desirable to us. This seems to be the kind of place we are looking for. When the time comes, this just might be the place we join.

Saturday dinner is great. Dockside helpers don't seem to have read the launching instructions handed out to competitors though. When you follow what the instructions in the competitors packet says, the dock master bitches at you for not doing things they way he thinks they should be done. Other than that, it's a nice club.
