Math teacher Mrs. Britney Richardson traumatized me so hard I remember her 5 years after, we got into a very serious verbal argument one morning where she yelled at me in front of all my peers, dismissing every explanation I had and putting me down at any chance. My breaking point (where I chose to sit in silence for the rest of the school year) was when she said with full confidence that I was "playing with needles, showing them off to other kids.", completely smearing and humiliating me. It was 7th grade, I had just been diagnosed a Type 1 diabetic and was showing a few of my closest friends how to properly use life saving emergency medication, as instructed by my doctor (glad I did because she clearly knew nothing of my diagnosis, if I passed out in her class I probably would've died there.). I was horrifically stunned and upset, and when she saw my gapping mouth she got a real cocky, mean smirk on her face, like she had outwitted a 13 year old. She should've been fired or reprimanded but no. It is still extremely upsetting, even as an adult with a diploma. Worst teacher I've ever had in 6 different schools. Wouldn't send my kid there if it was the last option.

The office staff is great, the principal is the best elementary principal I've ever seen. He knows every child. And is highly involved in all school functions. Doesn't pass it to an assistant. One of my children had been to several schools prior to stonewall during elementary years due to my husbands job. This was the only school he was ever happy at. Teachers are great and so much parent participation. Small town feel but at a bigger school with all the modern technology the kids need. You could not ask for a better school for your kids to start off at. You won't want them to leave!

As a result, the schools are not considered an issue right now (no mention that I heard in the mayoral race). But the schools are pretty mediocre (some schools are great, as good as any private school education while others are very troubled) and the "main office" is TERRIBLE. It's as bad as any bureaucracy I could name.

I gave them a hard time about this, but they seemed excited about it and they seemed to enjoy going every week. They also threw in a lesson with their package so that my dad and I could have a dance lesson to our song for the wedding. And I have to say, I was pretty impressed! We had a private lesson with their instructor and, while I am by no means now a professional ballroom dancer, I feel like we got the hang of it and it was pretty fun. Since future-husband happened to tag along, our instructor also talked us into taking one so that we wouldn't look ridiculous. I think we might need to practice a bit more, and knowing that we live out of town, our instructor even had us video him giving us suggestions on my phone! Only caveat is that it's a little pricey, but I've heard that they regualrly offer new student speicals.

I have two children; both have attended Community Montessori for a few years now…read more Since it is a smaller school (at least as compared to public school) and because students generally have the same classmates year after year, the children get to know each other and get along very well together. There appears to be a true sense of community in the classroom, and both my kids are happy and comfortable here. Both of them really do enjoy going to this school, and I believe that is due primarily to this community atmosphere. Academically they are also doing well. Montessori education was not a system I was familiar with before my children enrolled, but it seems to be working well; I am very pleased with their progress and even more so with their interest in learning. Really, though, I believe the learning environment is far more important than the teaching method. In my opinion, kids can learn through Montessori, traditional or any other education system so long as they are in a supportive and comfortable environment. Community Montessori provides this well.
