It is truly one of a kind, a uniquely Bea experience. When I go there with my family, we expect to wait a little bit longer than other fast-casual places, but it's always worth the wait. The menu is built around comfort food. Every item is a treat: the tacos, chips & guacamole, sandwiches, flautas, birria & consommé, burritos, yucca fries, empanadas, etc etc. These are all heavy fare and should be met with that expectation. This review is so well deserved but I also wish it was my secret place! Little spot in the downtown Elgin area. Empanadas are excellent. Filled with picadillo and paired with some great sauces. I had the lechon and wow some of the best lechon I've had - paired up with some sweet plantains and tostones. Other dishes were the steak and the steak sandwich. Everyone loved their food. The food is delicious (steak sandwich was amazing), but felt a little steep on price ($20 for a sandwich + fries but, again, very flavorful). Establishment is BYOB but I couldn't find that advertised anywhere. I only learned of it when asking why they have a bar with no liquor. Owner is super friendly and seems to pop by every table on every visit. Hours of operation seem inconsistent. I tried to visit for dinner on a Friday a few weeks back and they were closed. I tried again for lunch on a Friday a little more recently and they weren't open yet (I saw folks in the kitchen). All in all though, I'd still eat here. read more

Beaunique certainly fits in with the community. Kind of expensive is the only bad thing about it. The favorites include burritos, tacos, and more. Better to go earlier before it gets busy. It's often got a crowd. The slower times are at lunch. Often gets packed in the evening. They also liven up the atmosphere then with the fiesta music. It's about $17 for an entree. Many items cost even more. Each of us got a Burrito. I had only vegetables as the protein choice, with the rest of it being beans and rice. Also has sides to choose. The plantains have a savory or sweet choice, good stuff. For sure we could come here again. It's closed Mondays. The menu has a few items for vegetarians. read more

Omg! This is a must try Latin fusion restaurant. The food had so much flavor. The guacamole was served with these amazing crispy tortilla chips that had a delicious marinade on them. Then the sandwiches and fries were also just delicious. The fries were crispy and also had a marinade on them. The waitress was very friendly. The owner also came over to say hello. Enjoyed the Puerto Rican rice & empanadas. Visited during "Halloween on Chicago Street" so it was very crowded and they took away the chairs for it to function as a club. The favor of the rice was very good though a bit oily. The empanadas was good. The food reminded me fondly of the fun trip I took to Puerto Rico years ago. Loved the UNESCO blue cobbled streets & El Morro then. Service was good but one guy was a bit short with me on navigating the bathroom situation because it was so crowded. AMAZING guac and chips! Even the chips are seasoned differently and have a meaty porky taste, just different than most places. Also their fried plaintains may be the TBE I've ever had as I don eon like em in general! The food & service was amazing. I no longer have to drive 50 miles into Chicago for a jibarito!! We had the steak jibarito with a side of maduros/sweet plantains which was delicious. The ingredients were so fresh and the steak was very tender. We also tried 2 types of empanadas: beef & potato and chicken & potato. Both were perfectly done. Loved the mayo ketchup sauce, too!! We went there towards the end of the evening so it wasn't busy which was nice because we got to chat with Al, the owner. He was very cool and friendly. Maybe next time, we'll get a chance to meet Bea. I look forward to going back soon. My goal is to try every item on the menu!! read more

Customer Service so Bad, it's Almost Impressive. Called Beaunique Elgin because I was curious about trying them out. I had a simple question. Before I could even ask, the guy on the phone cuts in with, "Are you placing an order?" I said, "No," and he hung up on me. I called back--no answer. Tried again, finally got him, and asked why he was being so rude. His actual response? "You said you're not ordering anything." That's not customer service--that's someone who clearly shouldn't be anywhere near a phone, let alone representing a business. If they're this careless and disrespectful with first impressions, I can only imagine how sloppy everything else is. There are plenty of solid restaurants in Elgin. This one clearly doesn't care if they make it on that list. Whoever hired this guy did the restaurant a huge disservice--he's not just bad for business, he is the bad business. If a simple phone call is too much to handle, how can I trust them with something as important as what goes on my plate? I don't support places that treat people like an inconvenience. Beaunique is cute, unassuming spot in a nicely revamped area of downtown Elgin that honestly blew us away. The owner/chef, Bea, came out to talk with my daughter and we had such a great conversation with her (and also her husband) that we felt like we were old friends vs guests just coming in for the first time. Bea gave us some great suggestions and brought out what was easily the best Latin inspired food we have had in many years! everything was packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned. you could tell they put their heart and soul into their cooking. Hard to say what our favorite things were, but the yucca fries and lechon were definite repeats. Can't wait to come back again and try more things and bring the rest of my family. On a whim, tried Bea's kitchen for dinner since they had a jibarito on the menu. Boy, was I glad that I did. Spent some time talking to the owners and they are both wonderful people that clearly have a passion for their craft. To say that every single item was bursting with flavor is an understatement. Frankly, I was hooked from the first bite of my 'side' dish - yuca fries with one of their sauces. The jibarito itself was splendid and plentiful, on-par if not better compared to my trusted city spots. I also tried a taco and was pleasantly surprised. I assumed that this place was primarily Puerto Rican cuisine but offered tacos as a way of attracting diners looking for the standard Mexican taco-fare. But my assumption couldn't have been more off as this was no ordinary taco. It was chock-full of flavor. And you can tell the attention to detail too where they don't microwave the tortilla only to have it fall apart in your hands. It's like they flipped the script on the taco. Less tortilla and more focus on the yummy fillings. Bea started off as a ghost-kitchen type of arrangement many years ago but her labor of love demanded a brick-and-mortar establishment. And I'm really glad that it did or I wouldn't have discovered their wonderful Latin fusion food. I can't wait to visit again. read more
