I wanted to take out my Valentine out for a nice dinner so I set up a double date with my friend and his valentine. I decided to make 7 pm reservations for our favorite Argentinian Restaurant! It was easy and painless to make. A quick call. Driving to the restaurant, I was expecting it to be jam packed as the restaurant eating area is small and cozy. As we pulled into the parking lot, my hunch was confirmed. The parking lot was full and we can see people outside. We arrived a couple minutes before 7 and when I walked in, I had to work my way through people waiting to be seated. The staff was non stop busy and was in and out of the kitchen. Based on how packed it was, I knew it reservations would not be on time but for how long? I checked in and the staff member told me that a 4 top was just finishing, and it is ours as soon as they are done paying - 15 -20 minutes at the most is what he estimated. 15 minutes later, we were seated. I was happy considering how busy they were and the communication was great. We received heart shaped bread and water immediately and that was nice. They usually have breadsticks so I loved the touch of the shaped bread. The staff took a little while to get our food order, my guess was it was to pace the kitchen and the wait staff. It was ok cause we had great company at the table. We got our order in and the server was great and apologized for the wait and we totally understood. My wife and I shared a meal. Two empanadas and their cheese lasagna. My friend got calamari to share and ribeye steak. His wife got the pasta with shrimp. The appetizers came out in a timely matter, hot and fresh. The empanadas are homemade (spinach cheese and capreses). The crust is the make it break for empanadas and it was good as usual. The main course meals came out and they already split our meal which was unexpected and great service. The steak looked scrumptious and the pasta looked well dressed. As for as our lasagna, the amount of sauce was well balanced, the flavor of the tomato cream sauce had a nice tang to it, it was not loose or too thick. The pasta was tender and the parm, ricotta, and mozzarella was cheese had the right amount of each and topped with shaved parm. I loved it and would get it again. I'm a pescatarian but when I saw my friend's ribeye, I just had to try a slice. And did I make the right choice. The meat was tender and was cooked to the right temp. The chimichurri was delicious and pairs well the steak. What's Valentine's Day without sweets! We ordered Tiramisu and Flan Con Dulce De Leche to share and they were solid choices. Both were good and very tasty. The sizes were perfect to share although I would have made room to eat both of hem to myself. The overall experience was great considering how busy it was. The staff were exceptionally friendly and kept that excitement of serving the customers knowing how busy the restaurant was. They've changed the name but the food is still outstanding. We come here every so often and find the food to be consistent. Lots of different Argentinian flavors and a wide selection on their menu. They're very fast to come and serve you, but it's recommended to make a reservation. The summertime is nice to sit outside, too. We ordered for pickup. Although the food cooled by the time we ate it, it was still quite tasty. I can only imagine eating in the restaurant and enjoying the dishes served immediately after being prepared. The empanadas stood out the most. Rich, strong, bold flavor in the fried pastry. The pizza was good but I really think the texture of the crust and cheese would be a totally different experience if eaten right when it was baked. Love this place! It used to be called Artistic Cuisine, but I love that they renamed it so now you know more what style cuisine you're expecting. We've gone here a lot over the years, and I would say it's a definite go-to for our special occasion meals. We love their pizzas here. The grilled seafood dinner for 2. This is a crazy amount of food and can easily be shared among 4. I don't know how they get everything cooked so well--from salmon to white fish to calamari to octopus to shrimp to scallops--I mean, c'mon! They all have different cook times, and yet every time we've ordered this everything has just been perfect. Chef's kiss. We also love the fettuccine carbonara. Our kids devour this. So creamy. So rich. It's for sure a decadent dish that's best shared. You'll go into food coma if you eat the entire thing by yourself. But I also wouldn't blame you if you did eat it all because it tastes so good it's hard to stop. Spinach empanada and chicken empanada are our favorites. They spinach also has cheese which is so melty and gooey. And the outer dough has an almost flaky texture--it's really good. The chicken also seems stewed, so it's saucy. We have also tried beef, but imo it was too dry and meaty. It wasn't bad, but I think these other 2 are just so much better. And the sauce to dip it in! So tasty! I wish I could just drink it. We also got the salmon, but surprisingly it wasn't that special. It wasn't bad, but there are other dishes that uniquely stand out, and the salmon just felt like any old salmon, which was a little disappointing considering we've tasted how well they can do salmon in the other dish. Oh well! I would say if you like salmon, you won't be disappointed by it. But if you want something unique to the cuisine, don't get this. Go order the grilled seafood platter for 2 instead and be wowed. Ok and last unimportant thing: the bread is so soft! It's delicious. Do they make it in house?? I specifically asked for modifications to my order since they allow modifications (special instructions). I orderd an empanada which is fine but the fettuccine with pancetta was the problem. I'm allergic to panchetta and requested a swap with spinich and with everything-NO salt. Had to go in the trash. Very dissapointed. They didn't supply a receipt so I don't even know if they charged me for the spinich. I will never go back and will make sure I tell all my foodie friends. I think it's becuase it was delivery through door dash, they can get away from the "special instructions" OR they just don't care. Jimmy Johns is more reliable than this place and cheaper. read more

Bendita Cocina is a small and locally owned Argentinian restaurant that seats about 40ish. I'm actually surprised it isn't considered a fusion since the menu is fairly diverse (ie. Argentinian cuisine, of course, but also pastas and pizza). This is a nice place for a dinner date or in my case a triple dinner date! Service throughout was hit or miss. Our group was provided waters and our drink/food orders were taken quickly but unfortunately receiving food did take some time. I understand though as this seems to be a small family staffed business and the place was PAAACKED. After putting in our entrée orders it took about an hour for the items to be brought to us. As far as drinks I tried their Felino 2022 Malbec. This was dry, smooth and DELICIOUS. This might be my go to wine from now on. For food, my husband and I shared 2 empanadas to start. We had the green onion and cheese empanada as well as the spinach and cheese empanada. The texture of the dough is fluffy yet crispy, I really enjoyed it. My preference between the 2 empanadas was the spinach and cheese. For my main course I had the tilapia which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Everything went well together and the fish was cooked perfectly. I could bathe in the sauce it came with. It was rich and flavorful. I also took a bite of the fettuccini carbonara and it was just OK for me. I didn't necessarily think it was anything special but I appreciate that pasta is offered here. Ever been to Argentina? If not, come here to get authentic food, Argentinian service, and vibe. The restaurant is so cute and cozy, reminding me of traveling throughout Argentina. The food is delicious, and the staff are from the country. I love that they are bringing a piece of one of my favorite countries to Palatine. If the ambiance is not for you, I suggest not going to Argentina (and that means the service is slower so you ENJOY your food, not SCARF it down). If you want something authentic and different, not everyday America, you must come here to eat!! If your review complains about the service, I suggest leaving the US and expand your horizons. Haven't been here in years. Went on a Wednesday night. It was really good. The hot fresh backed bread was delicious. I had the skirt steak with mass potatoes which was wonderful. We were in town to visit family and friends last week. Our friends recommended Bendita Cocina, so they made reservations and we met them there. The weather was perfect for sitting outside! I think everyone dining there that evening was eating outside. The service was a little slow, but in their defense, the servers had to come all the way outside to the side of the building via the front door. The breadsticks are amazing! Items ordered on our table: pollo al mattone (half of a pan seared chicken with veggies and toasted potatoes - delicious!) salmon a la narranja (very good!) and old fashioned spaghetti and meatball. Nice and cute in a strip mall close to the cutting theatre in palatine. My friend and I stopped for a quick bite before a comedy show and enjoyed the food but the service slow as hell and we ended up missing 15 mins of the show. Everyone was happy with their food, service was attentive, we even made room for dessert. The only negative is a 20% service fee, it's never clear if these are a gratuity for the server or a fee that goes to the owner. We had ordered carry-out a few years ago and I had wanted to go back, so we did. The carry-out we had then was the best steak and absolutely best Beef Bourguignon I've ever had anywhere in the world. Although the Beef Bourguignon was still on the menu, it was no longer being offered. So we ordered the Ensalada Tibia and Vacio a la Parrilla. My husband said the Ensalada Tibia was the best salad he'd ever eaten. And the Vacio a la Parrilla, rare, was outstanding. The restaurant is nicely decorated and immaculately clean. I noticed the Faulds Pizza Oven near the entrance, and the nice waiter let me see the inside and how it rotated. What a gem these ovens are. They were made in Chicago but production was discontinued in 1971. Such a gem to have and still use! This restaurant has outstanding food and wonderful wait staff and is a small treasure in Palatine. read more

Insanely overpriced for food that was not particularly good. $$-rated restaurants should not have plastic oversized menus (first red flag), let alone a carry-out counter - choose one! The gnats and flies that joined us for our meal was a next sign of a less-than-ideal bday celebration (red flag #2), followed closely by our server dripping with sweat (red flag #3) assume he works in the kitchen, too, so maybe a dedicated non-kitchen staff server would be good). I spent over $125 (with tip) for two people for food and drinks that I'd expect from TGIFriday's. The dining side of the restaurant was overheated and run down (#4), the decor was a mashup of themes (and most pieces on the wall were crooked, #5), they were out of beer 6:45pm (#6) and the portions were so big that it's no wonder they charge so much - they give it away and NOT in a good way. My steak was beaten paper thin and was basically deep fried beef jerky, while my girlfriend's paella rice was insanely overcooked like it was meant for someone with no teeth. Too many red flags to ignore. I won't return and will try not to hold this experience against Argentina. read more

When this was under the old ownership, it was called Artistic Cuisine. Now, under new ownership, they have a new name, Bendita Cocina. They bill themselves as Latin American, Argentine, and Italian. Not knowing how busy it would be, we made a reservation for three at 6:30 PM on a Friday night. When we arrived, there were a lot of open tables. The decor is interesting but nice. It's very different than Artistic Cuisine was with local Argentine art on the walls, most for sale. They have very unique and modern chandeliers in the dining area. They don't have a bar to sit at but have alcoholic beverages on the menu. And, they have a decent wine menu, mostly featuring Argentine wines. We each had wines - 2 pinot grigios and one pinot noir. They have a large selection of wines by the glass, all of which are available by the bottle. We ordered our meal, and a few more people came in. We ordered the Gnocci, Fettucini Carbonara, and a Ribeye Steak. The meal came with the most delicious garlic breadsticks. When the meal arrived, more people were there. This is a small, enclosed space with no carpeting. As more arrived it got louder and louder to the point where we had to yell to be heard. One at our table wore hearing aids and the noise drowned out everything so she had great difficulty keeping up with our conversation. The meals were all excellent. I personally like thinner cuts of steak. And, while the Ribeye did come in a bit more than 1/2 inch, the size made up for it. It was served with Chimichurri sauce, grilled vegetables, and potatoes. We substituted the tomato sauce on the Gnocchi with Alfredo Sauce. I did not try it, but when it was done, she used her spoon to finish off the sauce. And the same was done with the Fettucini Carbonara. They have a small but rich dessert menu. While everything sounded great, none of us could eat anything more. We did have coffee before we left. But my take on the food was, it was outstanding. There are two reasons for the 4-star rating and not giving them 5 stars. There were two servers. When the place was full, they simply couldn't get to everyone in a reasonable amount of time. They were times when we simply could not get their attention. The second reason was the noise. Clearly, everyone wants to celebrate. At a bar, you expect a lot of notice. At a fine restaurant, I wish they had white sound machines or some kind of noise dampeners to allow people to converse. If you don't mind loud restaurants, you would certainly rate this with 5-stars. And, we will certainly be back. I think, though, we'll try an off-hour next time. read more

My husband and I were very excited to try this place for our anniversary, but it ended up being a bit of a disappointment. First of all the service was very, very slow. There was only one waiter for at least 10 tables inside as well as a handful of outside tables. After we were seated it took him close to 20 minutes to greet us and take our order. We ended up putting our entire drink and food order in because we didn't want to risk him not coming back again soon. Probably because he was so busy, he was not very welcoming or friendly. My husband tried to order the IPA they had on the menu, but they were out, so he tried a margarita from the menu which they were also out of. He ended up getting sangria which was ok. We had high hopes for the meal as we really enjoyed our appetizer, choripan con salsa criolla. The salsa topping was fresh and delicious. We got two entrees to share, the paella al azafran con frutos de mar and the Argentinan style steak with chimichurri. Unfortunately the entrees fell a little flat of our expectations. The steak was a little over cooked from the medium we ordered, the amount of chimichurri was skimpy, and the potatoes and veggie sides were unexciting. We enjoyed the paella more than the steak and it did have quite a bit of shrimp and calamari, but we both felt we've had other paella we enjoyed more. The decor inside was a mishmash of styles and seemingly random items that I didn't feel fit in an upscale restaurant. My significant other and I went there last night excited to try this highly reviewed restaurant. From the very beginning we were kind of taken aback by staff - 2 men - one was an usher and the other one the only waiter. They did not even greet us but were just standing there staring at us. Finally my partner stated we wanted a table and we were just waved to the dinning area, which was almost empty. Yet, I was still determined not to let such "details" ruin our evening. The interior was revealing gross neglect - dark shabby chairs with patches of missing paint, PVC table covers. Later on the whole table was covered with puddles of water from the condensation from the water pitcher. The waiter kept putting it into a different spot every time, creating a new puddle, but he could not care less. He did not even try to wipe it. The Calamari Picante al Azafran appetizer was amazingly delicious. The rich creamy texture of the dish made me hope that we will still enjoy it. The breadsticks are to die for. OMG! The entrees were such a disappointment. I had Special Homemade Spinach Gnocchi with Vodka Sauce. The gnocchi were overcooked and mushy. The sauce was tomato-based with some sweetness, which I do not like. I only had 30% of the dish and left it. The waiter obliviously offered boxes for leftovers which we refused. My partner ordered Argentinian Style Ribeye thrilled to try a dish symbolizing Argentina. When it was served by the waiter it was a T-Bone steak!!!! We made the comment to the waiter, but he did not say a word - no explanation, apology, or any attempt to accommodate. Additionally, the steak itself was so bland and flavorless that there was not even salt on it. The cherry on top was that when we got the bill they have the audacity to still list RIBEYE and charge for it when they know they gave us T-Bone. Our experience there was a complete failure. Very loud inside and a bit difficult to hold a conversation. It's a very small restaurant with limited seating, so you need to make a reservation to be guaranteed a seat. Or else be prepared to wait a long time. The food is fabulous. I got the seafood paella from the seasonal menu, and it was really spicy with TONS of seafood--large pieces of shrimp, scallops, calamari, and mussels. All cooked perfectly. I highly recommend this dish! I love the breadsticks--so soft and thick with bits of herbs. We had the special cheese appetizer, and it was a steaming pile of thick cheese served with garlic bread. The bread didn't seem to need the extra cheese, but we gobbled it down anyway. The wine prices are reasonable, and the Malbec is delicious. Service is a bit slow, I think there were 3 servers that were dashing around frantically, so they were probably trying their best. But they were very nice and we weren't rushed for time, so it was ok. The decor and atmosphere was quite nice. I loved the gold light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. I found this place because argentinian steak is my favorite and it is very rare in the area. I was excited to see things like choripan and Milanesa on the menu. We ordered two different cuts, vacio and ribeye. Both were very flavorful and definitely juicy. We also had the calamari with the zafron sauce. Must say this is so worth it as that sauce is exceptional. What was a little sad though, was that we couldn't order any drinks since the server told us they weren't serving drinks that moment, to me that was very suprising since it was a saturday at 3pm. Either way things went pretty well. I would love to see something like Asado de tira or mollejas as an addition to the menu. I will be returning very soon! read more
