My mom was a resident at Asahi Residential Care for a couple of years and recently passed away late last year. The home was always very clean, food was nice and caregivers were kind & attentive. The home felt like a family atmosphere and the interactions amongst the residents (and their families) was very special. The staff is not following my mom's hospice care directive, they are force feeding her and putting her in danger. The hospice agency and nurse has told the staff multiple times not to feed her and they keep violating the orders. I'm beyond mad and I'm going to report them and file a claim against them. read more

This review is based solely on our firsthand experience with the Cerise location of this care facility, where mom, who has Alzheimer's disease, was admitted in September 2024. Timeline of Events and Observations: September 2024: Mom was admitted to the Cerise facility. At the time of admission, she was ambulatory, verbally communicative, and able to feed herself independently. She was capable of walking to a nearby park, approximately one mile roundtrip, without assistance or incident. Two female caregivers were present at the time of admission. October-November 2024: Mom began experiencing incontinence. By November, the staff had changed, and a male house manager named Jun had assumed a supervisory role. During this time, there were no issues reported with bathing or showering. We were not notified of the staff change until after it was completed. December 2024: Jun requested an in-person meeting to recommend placing our mother on hospice care, citing difficulty with incontinence care. Following this meeting, I consulted our mother's mobile physician, who confirmed that she was not a candidate for hospice care. Based on that assessment, arrangements were made for more regular visits by the mobile doctor. January 2025: During a visit, I observed that our mother had a visible bruise near her eye. No prior notification of this injury was provided by the facility. When questioned, staff reported that the cause was "unknown." A photo of the bruise was reviewed by our mother's physician, who estimated that the injury appeared to be 3-4 days old at the time the photo was taken. This incident was reported to the LA County but the date of the ombudsman visit was scheduled for late March. February 2025: Staff continued to communicate their concerns about mom during her diaper changes. Additional medication was introduced to manage these concerns, reportedly at the recommendation of Jun and a caregiver named Sarita. The weekend caregiver, who had been present since September, stated that she did not have difficulty managing incontinence care and did not observe problematic behavior. Sarita noted that our mother had improved by the end of February. Jun reported that her behavior remained unchanged. March 2025: Following medication adjustments, our mother became bedbound for nearly a week. The prescribing physician reduced the medication dosage after it was observed to cause tremors and impact her mobility. During this period, she sustained a knee bruise, for which I was notified. She had difficulty walking and exhibited full-body tremors, which appeared to be related to the prescribed medication. Additional Observations: The decision to place mom in a board-and-care facility was based on the expectation of a more personalized and home-like care environment, with a higher caregiver-to-resident ratio. During unannounced visits, the house manager, Jun, was often not present and reportedly "running errands." Mom's hair was cut without prior notice or consent. The haircut appeared uneven and unprofessional. Mom was the second resident at the Cerise facility after the renovation. Another resident, the first resident, named Tracy, commented on negative interactions with the house manager. The contract with the facility contains an arbitration clause, limiting legal recourse and precluding civil litigation. Each facility is operated as a separate legal entity. While an activities calendar is provided, the observation is that activities were minimal. Aside from occasional participation in October and November, residents were typically indoors without outdoor access or structured engagement. read more

I toured several South Bay boarding care homes for my mother as her dementia worsened, and Cabrillo House immediately stood out for its bright, open feel and warm atmosphere. After my mom suffered another hip fracture, we moved her in, and the care she received was exceptional. Although my mother passed away after eight months, I'm deeply grateful for the dignity and compassion they showed her. My grandma is a resident of Asahi, and has consistently received excellent care since January 2024. Kristina, Phil, and John are so caring and kind. Their house is kept very clean. No smelly residents there. Also, the food Phil cooks always smells amazing. My grandma eats all of the food she is given, despite saying she doesn't have a good appetite. I am at ease knowing she receives 24 hour care and a well balanced diet. My grandma also really looks forward to weekly bingo. Irene in the office is on top of all the paperwork and provides excellent service as well. JM was very kind and informative during the set up process. All in all, I am very happy that we put our trust in Asahi Residential Care. read more

My Dad spent a year at Cabrillo House and the care he received was excellent. The home is immaculate and the caregivers are truly wonderful. I visited every day, so I saw how great they were with my Dad and the other residents. Edna & Sunny were great about giving his medications, staying up with him on rough nights, keeping me informed of any concerns & making him nutritious meals & snacks. My Dad loved sitting in the backyard in the pretty garden & walking along the path & joking around with JM & Sunny. I can't stress how KIND the staff was - every single one of them. I will always be very grateful to them for taking such good care of him in his final year. On the business side, I was a bit frustrated at times when my Dad (with late stage dementia) was getting agitated & tried to hit staff members that he normally really liked. I would get a call when this happened from the office about what I could do to stop it. For a month or so, I was worried they might make me move him to a different facility, which was stressful. That said, they gave me a little time to increase his meds, which calmed him, & the staff worked hard to help him, so I was able to keep him there. Dementia is difficult for everyone involved, but I truly felt like he was in the best possible care I could find. I looked at eleven different places in the area before I found Cabrillo House, so many were just in bad repair or small. Cabrillo House is a beautiful home that my Dad felt proud & happy to be in. Visitors always commented on how nice it was and I think he received more visitors because it wasn't a depressing place to go. I would recommend them for anyone that needs extra care for their loved one & wants a place that feels like home. read more

I am so thankful that my best friend Sharon referred me to JM, who helped me find a beautiful caring home so close to me for my elderly mom, who needed 24 hr care due to her constant falling. Gat, Orlando and the staff at Aviation Home are awesome and take such good care of my mom that she's much improved. I saw her with her OT and she's now able to get up on her own and walk with her walker unassisted. But she sure doesn't act like that with me and my fiancé. She acts hopeless so she can be spoiled. But I'm so thankful that Orlando and the staff makes sure that she walks twice a day. She loves it there and likes the entire staff, who are so caring and patient. (They have to be to handle my mom!). She's been there just over a month now. She likes their cooking, too, especially Gat's and Orlando's. She also likes the activity lady Carlene, who comes every Friday. She's funny and so nice. I just love how they have a weekly group activity day like games, arts and crafts, movies & popcorn, etc. I highly recommend Beautiful Homes to care for your loved ones. My sister and I had an absolutely amazing experience with having our dad as a resident of Oceanfront at Beautiful Homes for the Elderly. From the first meeting with JM, we truly knew that he would be well taken care of. As a Parkinson's patient with dementia, my dad's care created many challenges for the caregivers, but they met and exceeded all our expectations for his care. As my sister and I both live in other cities, the caregivers were kind enough to text us updates with photos, videos, and progress reports as he settled in. When his sleeping became irregular and hard to predict, they took special care to visit his room more often than usual, sometimes staying with him for hours if he was restless. Yolanda was very involved in his care and came up with many suggestions of activities and stimulation for our dad, even going so far as to bring games and puzzles from her own home. Yolanda communicated everything happening with our dad and always made herself available via phone or text. During COVID uncertainty, she made sure we were able to visit with our dad when we came, even if it was just from the outside, because she knew the positive impact that visitors had on him. She always put the care needs of our dad first, and for that we will always be grateful. Moving a loved one into a board and care home is an obviously emotional, stressful, and difficult situation that can often make you feel lost and/or completely out of control. But, the team at Oceanfront made us and our dad feel welcomed like family and really brought out the humanity of the whole experience. Thank you to Yolanda, JM, Jeffrey, Roy, Kitchie, Delia, Gina, Jose, Deana, Lana and everyone else for taking such amazing care of our dad. My 95-year-old aunt stayed at one of this company's Board and Care homes for about 8 months in 2019 and she was treated horribly. The specific house she lived at was Ocean Front Residence, 7117 Avenida Altisima, Rancho Palos Verdes CA. The website advertises that the company provides the following: * Three nutritious home cooked meals plus fresh healthy snacks daily * Daily Housekeeping services * Planned activates and entertainment * Individual exercise program * Chauffeured transportation services * Basic cable television * Fully furnished spacious rooms * Medication service * Individualized personal care program available However, much of that is not true. The two "caregivers" at the house spoke very poor English which at times made it nearly impossible for my aunt or myself to communicate with them. The meals were not nutritious and not "home-cooked." They served a lot of cheap pasta dishes (noodles), Vienna sausages from the can, hot dogs for breakfast. They rarely had fresh fruit or vegetables. The meals were not balanced and no consideration was given to the special dietary needs of my aunt. There were no "planned activities and entertainment." There was no individual exercise program. The "chauffeured transportation services" were not provided by a licensed transportation agency, but rather by employees of the corporate office who used their own cars. The charge was $80 (depending on the distance it could be more) and the employee received a portion of that as a bonus. The transportation was NOT included as part of monthly rent. My aunt's medication was not properly charted or administered. When a pill would fall on the floor, the caregiver would pick it up and try to hand it to my aunt. The "individualized personal care program" was a hospice agency called Silver Garland. My aunt had not previously needed to be on hospice, but the service was used anyway. The nurses from the hospice did not visit her regularly nor did they call me with reports or follow-ups. (I am my aunt's only next of kin.) When I was finally able to find another facility to move her to, the initial exam by the RN of the new place revealed that my aunt had a very bad deep pressure wound (bedsore) on the heel of of one of her feet. This bedsore had never been noticed or attended to by the staff at Ocean Front. She also had edema in both of her legs that had never been noticed or attended to by the Ocean Front staff. AND she also had a horrible, itchy rash all over her body (sebaceous eczema) that was never attended to. In other words, my aunt was severely neglected by Ocean Front, Beautiful Homes for the Elderly and the Silver Garland Hospice. The manager of the facility at the office in Torrance also tried to make my aunt move to another room or another of their Beautiful Home facilities because she wanted the room for other prospective residents. The manager lied to my aunt and said the room change would only be temporary. One of caregivers started moving my aunt's belongings out of her room without her permission. My aunt had wound up at this place because the previous Board and Care she was at was closed. I did not choose Ocean Front for her as residents of the closed B & C were only given 3 days to get out and find a new place to live. I would not recommend Beautiful Homes for the Elderly or Ocean Front Residence under any circumstances. For $6000/month my aunt received very little care and was horribly neglected. Now that she has been moved, she is doing much better and is being cared for properly. read more

They have a high employee turnover, medications found on the floor twice, bedding not changed weekly (brought to the attention of mgmt 3 times), meals are not offered or skipped, patients get told "their a pain in the ass" If you're looking for good care this is not your place...for 7K per month I expected professional caregivers. read more

I was very happy to place my mother Mildred in Oceanfront residence after receiving a strong positive recommendation from family friend Francis. The facility was well maintained, clean, with an attentive staff. Business Manager JM was easy to work with and very helpful in assessing my Mom while insuring she would be a good "fit" for the house. In terms of visits, I always felt welcomed whenever I stopped by regardless of the time. Mom participated in numerous activities sponsored by the staff and enjoyed the special holiday homemade dinners ! Kitchie, Ella and other members of the staff kept the atmosphere friendly and positive while providing quality care. Mom had increasing dementia and mobility issues over the 3 years at Oceanfront. I am grateful we celebrated her 100th birthday as she lived a long and rewarding life. My father was moved into Cabrillo Manor November of 2019 where we moved him from another location that was not adequate for his needs. At Cabrillo Manor, they were very attentive, served breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as provided all of his medication as prescribed. They warmed up the house during Christmas and held a Christmas party for all residents and their families to attend. We were always welcomed with hugs and attended to with all the questions we had. My father passed away in the home January 2020 and they were very respectful in everything that was needed during his final days. The hospice I contracted myself would visit on-call at all times of the day and night. We requested a little privacy during his last days as his room was a shared room and it was granted, as it was not a permanent request. Til this day, my mother has gone to visit those we met and bring them plants and food to thank them for all they did. Not only for my father but for our entire family. We recommend Cabrillo Manor for any loved one needing assistance. read more
