His studio is nestled in the Library Plaza that accommodates the local public library in city of San Fernando. It's located in the back near the parking lot and situated on the second floor that overlooks the courtyard. It's a beautiful spot! If I remember correctly, Manny said that he has been in the business for 15 years although this studio location is relatively new (as of this year). His mastery of the art of hair shows. When he works on you, his focus is like that of a lead guitarist strumming his solo in a heart-felt rock ballad. You feel like you're the only one in the room! The day I was there he had one assistant and as well as another stylist, both of whom worked on me at some point during my treatment as Manny managed the business side of his establishment. But he was constantly supervising the work and did most of the "heavy lifting". The Brazilian Blowout is an amazing treatment. I went from having a tangled mess of curls and cowlicks to smooth straight tresses with a hint of body. This is not a stick straight style like the Yuko system however according to all I've read it's better for the health of your hair. I am very satisfied with the end result: gorgeous shiny hair that's straight and smooth. No frizz, no fuzz, no muss, no fuss! According to the Brazilian Blowout website the treatment should take about 90 minutes but Manny said realistically it would take up to two hours. That said it actually took about three hours to complete and that's with somebody working on me from the moment I got seated in the chair, which was within five minutes of my appointment. I'm not upset about the time involved as I had nowhere to be and didn't want my stylist to be rushing on such a high cost treatment. But I think it's worth mentioning if you're getting your hair "did" for a special occasion later in the day. My advice is: it's important to schedule extra time in your busy schedule to get this treatment done right. My only concern with a Brazilian Blowout is that the chemical solution that was used in the first stage really made my eyes sting however my scalp was absolutely (positively) fine. However my eyes burned and teared up worse than cutting up an onion. My eyes really hurt! Manny was prepared for this reaction and loaned me a pair of real Christian Dior sun glasses to protect my eyes for the duration of this stage of the treatment. It didn't really help, but at least I looked cool and nobody could tell I was crying. For all the claims that the BB contains no harsh chemicals and no formaldehyde I've really got to wonder what the active ingredient is that would cause such a seriously caustic reaction, as I'm sure it can't be good for you or your stylist who works with the product daily. The cost for my certified Brazilian Blowout came to $250 plus a tip for both his assistants, which is usual and customary for the industry. At the time of this review I'm coming up on close to only the third week of the Brazilian Blowout. I love how my hair turned out but it's beginning to fade out and already my hair is beginning to morph into its original wavy, curly state. I don't think this is a testament to Manny's work though. I think it's more to do with the treatment. The Brazilian Blowout marketing department claims that the results can last up to 12 weeks and since I'm barely a quarter of the way there I'm pretty disappointed. I can't justify rescheduling for another treatment every four months if it's not going to last. It's a spendy treatment and in today's economy I need to see a better value for my money and a longer return on my investment. It's hard for me to make that call because I absolutely love the results and I love Manny's work. However, don't let my budget constraints effect your decision. If you can afford it and want to look like a million bucks, go see Manny. I know for a fact that the Brazilian Blowout treatment costs way much more if you were to have it done on the west side Currently (as of July 2010) Manny is offering a "Sexy Summer Special" of $50 off a Brazilian Blowout on Tuesdays only. Manny also offers other specials every day of the week which can add up to some significant savings so it's worth asking about them when you visit or by checking out his website.

After an hour and fifteen minutes, I finally gave up and left. I never got a call back. A few hours later I finally called back and Manny was very non-chalant about the entire situation. There is a serious lack of professionalism here and it is definitely not appreciated, especially when driving over an hour to get there. I was hoping it would be worth it. Guess not.
