My stylist was amazing! However, the music playing is just horrific. People want a relaxing time when being pampered, and not everyone wants to listen to top 40. Mix it up! Know your audience! How about a mix of classic rock, classical, country, disco, easy listening, jazz, blues... Also, I feel like you need to change your gel nail polish. With my manicures, a few colors couldn't be used because they were thick, goopy, and old. Additionally, my nails chipped right away, and then would even just peel off completely. Brought my son in for a haircut. Showed multiple pictures of what he wanted, and just received a very bad cut. Seems like the stylist, Samantha, had never cut boys' hair before. She was extremely friendly and pleasant, but seemed quite inexperienced and like she wasn't sure of what she was doing. I had to ask multiple times for certain areas to be fixed, and when we got home and had more time to look at the haircut, we saw just how bad it was. Ended up having to give my son a buzz cut. And it's quite expensive. Super friendly stylist, but a bad cut. Won't go back. read more

Walked in to schedule a long hair cut, I hadn't been to a salon in years. I was able to schedule the next week with Danielle. Everyone was so friendly, and made me feel comfortable. Danielle was amazing! She listened to my hair concerns, gave me great tips and info, explained all the products she had used and the reasons why she was using them. My hair looked and felt great. I immediately scheduled my next hair appt. So glad I walked in. I have a new appreciation for my hair, lol! I also left with a few of their L'anza products and have been extremely pleased with them! I am from California and visiting family. I am so impressed with Urban Trends. My stylist was Susan, and she is the absolute professional. She reviewed all the services and cost before we began. I have never had this experience at home. I always have to ask about chargers and stylist always refer you to the receptionist. I loved having the professional explain the service and cost. She gave me input into the decision regarding my hair and really listened to my needs and concerns. I wanted to completely change my color and style. Susan's skill level is superior. My hair color and short hair style is a big hit. My family loved it, my husband loved it and I absolutely love it. I swear, I wish I could fly back every 2 mo to have my hair done. I also had a pedicure and brow wax. Susan spent 5 hours with me for all the services. It was so delightful not to feel rushed and to have the complete attention of the stylist. I felt like Queen for the day. A great big shout out and Thank you to Susan. This salon is a definite A Plus. I am a very happy client. The stylists are nice, but they seem like a "fake" nice. A few people i know went there as well and they though the same thing. It makes the customer feel pretty uncomfortable. I've dyed my own hair all my life, and wanted to try a salon. I let the stylist know at my consult that i didn't know about hair salon terminology and she continued to ask me questions using the terminology over and over again after i repeatedly asked her to simply explain it better and she didn't and it made me feel very uncomfortable. Then she wrote out a price list of what the service would cost and two things really threw me off.. one, they weigh out their hair dye and charge by weight which is really bizarre to me (like to be THAT extra to make money). The cherry topper, is she automatically was going to charge me $35 to BLOW DRY my hair afterwards. I brought that to her attention and she looked at me like i was stupid and said "well don't you want to see the finished product".. as a stylist, don't YOU? I'm already paying $300 for a color.. just let me blow dry my own hair at that point.. and even if you did blow dry it and it didn't turn out the way it should, i would still be required to pay for the correction. It sounds like penny pinching to me and it's quite ridiculous. I absolutely cannot imagine giving my money to Urban trends in Racine, wi. I'll definitely be taking my services elsewhere and will be spreading the word. read more

Well apparently Urban Trends hair salon on 10351 Washington Avenue Racine WI 53177 has so many high reviews on FB cause they delete all the true ones. I'm sure they didn't like how many people liked my review. THEREFORE THEY DELETED IT! The owner Joanne Peterman is beyond rude and has no business knowledge what's so ever. Being over priced is the least of their problems. it seriously was not about their prices. I was double booked so they basically said sorry your going to have to get it done from another stylist but she's a level higher then me so she charges double??? So instead of paying 80 it's going to be 160??? I had a gift card so I didn't care... But was pissed. Because it was their error and I was the one inconvenienced. So I call yesterday to talk to OWNER. She said well honestly it's a bunch of he said she said... And you can take it up my manager since she was here that day not me. I said but you're the OWNER...she said so? I said its your business ... Your manager is the one I had the issue with so your her boss... You should deal with this... She said so when you go to McDonald's and want to complain do you speak to the owner??? I said how is that even the same McDonald's is a franchise your a small ass over priced salon... You're ridiculous. Thennnn she pissed me off when she said the prices were discussed with you prior to doing your hair I make sure that my staff does that especially with your kind of people... Wtf is my kind of people suppose to mean??? She's so lucky this was over the phone. Also I brought up I was quoted a certain price when I called and booked appt... She said you were also quoted when we changed stylist... you could of said no then. RESPONSE TO OWNERS COMMENT: Anddddd also my appt was at 11 and I arrived 10:45 ... So that made me 15 mins early. The moment I arrived I was told I would NOT get my hair done because "whoever" booked it made an error. They should of never scheduled me...is what Jessica and Kori kept saying. Kori apologized for the inconvenience and she would do one color but not able to do what I initially wanted and was quoted over the phone. You state that if I have a concern about this issue to give you a call and that is exactly what I did in the 1st place. You insisted I talk to Kori because you didn't have time for he said she said. I explained to you that I had an issue how YOUR manager handled this so as a owner you needed to handle this... You continued to talk over me asking me if I wanted to talk to Kori. Also I do suggest you do not let your personal feelings or judgments come out when you are running your business...on the phone you said YOUR KIND OF PEOPLE...rather you meant cheap, annoying, Hispanic, ghetto etc etc it was an insult. I'm a college educated Latina who has a very well paying job. I had no problem paying if I would have received respect as a customer andddddd the color and style I requested and not just what you had time for due to your employees mistake. I explained to you on the phone any complaints should be handled by the owner. It's your business your name on this .... It directly effects you. Your employees can leave and find new jobs. They can care less how your business is ran. That's why they complain about you when your not there (which I also thought was very unprofessional). I don't understand why you keep saying all this surprised you. I explained allllll this over the phone. I also stated at the end of the convo before you hung up that I would make sure everyone knew what you said and how I was treated. I told you that many people already didn't think highly of you or your business .. That I have ran into previous employees who have bashed you and your business. Your response was there x employees for a reason so do what you have to do Vanessa! So all this should not be a shocker. So I think it's fair to say that when you have a remedy to fix this situation you contact me. It took 4 hours and 5 minutes to get my hair highlighted and cut with Soma. I tried Jessica, who did an all over highlight and then the color didn't match my roots. (after a 100.00 bill!). Went back to get it fixed, and found out that only the top of the hair was done, not the underneath part - even though I paid for the entire head of hair to be done with roots. TERRIBLE PLACE. Contacted the owner, and she only said, "we changed our policy". No mention of a credit for the money I paid for a service I didn't receive. Won't go back. Why bother? If they sell you a service, then you should expect the service instead of an empty, "oh, sorry" with no mention of making it right by actually fixing the issue. read more

I LOVE going to Urban Trends!! The customer service is excellent starting from the phone call to make the appointment...to check out once the appointment is over. The decor and atmosphere is exciting and calming at the same time...and the staff does all it can to make you comfortable. My particular favorite stylist is Kori!!! She has a flair for style and color! She is pleasant to talk to, efficient in her work and she is creative in her approach to styling. read more

Some may say I am crazy that I drive a half hour every 8 weeks to get my hair done. I say it's crazy to go anywhere else. The experience and atmosphere is worth every penny. All the staff is professional, kind, and Knowledgeable. I love how much each stylist has their own style and they LOVE to listen and educate their clients. My stylist is Danielle, she is my favorite and I have been seeing her since she started... 8 years ago? Lol ! I give her an idea of what I want and trust her to do her thing. She is not pushing in product sales but she know about all her product and what best fits for what you looking for. The salon is always clean and organized! Lastly, the salon culture is great. I have never had such a horrible experience in a salon. I was charged $49 extra for a product I was told would cover my greys more then 4-6 weeks, 2 weeks later 1/2 inch of greys showing. My highlights were almost invisible $180 later! The manager Joann stated "it's out of our control how fast your hair grows"! She was very defensive with me with a too bad too sad attitude. This is an overpriced salon ran by a very rude women! I feel sorry for the nice stylists that work there. Would not recommend this salon because if your not happy it's to bad! read more

Urban Trends is the only place I've gotten my hair cut in the last 3 years. Jean is fantastic and really knows her stuff. She keeps me up to date while paying attention to what cut flatters me the most. I've had a few massages that are pretty good too. Went in for 7 foils for $24 and my total ended up being $68? $24 for highlights, $14 for caramel color (and my hair isn't even caramel), and $30 to shampoo and blow dry my hair. My hair wasn't even fully dry, again my hair didn't even come out caramel, and I never asked for a shampoo. Was very confused, but also in a rush so I just paid and left. When I called to speak to a manager about my service she asked me "Are you stupid--she put you in a bowl what did you think was happening?" Well, when one has bleach in their hair and are put over a bowl one would think they are simply rinsing the bleach out rather than adding an unauthorized $30 extra to their bill. I have been coming here for over 8 years off and on with my family and never have had a problem like this, nor has my level of intelligence ever been questioned. I'm extremely offended, as the manager kept saying on the phone when I said it was shady that they charged me $30 for a service I didn't ask for or authorize. In the end I was reimbursed for the $30 shampooing but am still extremely offended and disappointed in the management here. I will never be returning as the manager was arguing with me on the phone telling me I was wrong and lying to her, and I had to also pay for a caramel color that never even turned caramel. read more

I have only had one good experience at Urban Trends, Megan, the massage therapist is fantastic. The salon its self looks trendy and clean, however, the staff has a stand off-ish cold personality. I had my hair done by one of the workers, I don't remember her name, but she was in her late 50's...she hardly consulted with me and had no conversation with me during the service. It was an un happy environment. I wouldn't recommend getting your hair done there, but if you want a massage, megan is the best ive ever been to. read more

Honestly, whenever you try something new, it is scary. I was having a New Years party or special occasion, hence, I wanted to be all dolled up. So I went and had my first facial. Amanda has a "special" touch, my 1st time was wonderful. She does this little thing with her little fingers and gives you like tickling goosebumps on your face lol! It was also a nice massage on my shoulders and she is very into skin making sure she gets all those blackheads and such. I gave her $100 tip the 1st time :p. Since then, I have gone to two other places, and they were rushing me and seemed to just want to get through it, I am very strange and it takes a lot for me to relax, I am a workaholic and always pent up. It is hard for me to relax, and she did this, I am not going to try any other new places, I will stick to my "girl." Prices are expensive, but basically all of them are the same prices around town, and you get coupons and your friends too. It just sucks that she has limited times and does not work everyday. read more
