I have been shopping in this store for 15 plus years and the service has been amazing. I read through the comments and had a suspicion that many of them were fake. I have NEVER had bad service in this store. And I visit it frequently. The product lines are superior and lovely. The owner is very pleasant--always. In the past, I purchased many other products from this business. However, the service has never been good, but it has steadily become worse. This is a girly girl's paradise! Amazing and hard to find brands of bath & body products, makeup, hair products, facial products and jewelry. Whenever I'm walking down 4rth, a stop over at Beauty Bar is a MUST! The staff is super friendly and actually take the time to get to know you, all while helping you find something super special pamper yourself with. After a few visits, the staff will pretty much know what you're looking for and what you like as soon as you walk through the door. The highlight: They carry the coveted Kevin Aucoin makeup line. I love their concealer (gotta hide those dark circles!) The downfall: Let say a makeup item doesn't work for you, you're pretty much screwed. No returns or exchanges. Downfall numero dos: The owner (a brunette woman) sometimes sits in the back near the jewelry and pretty much ignores everyone who walks in. This store is so pretty that can't help but walk in every time I pass by. It's a girly-girl's dream with cosmetics and jewellery and accessories. I drool as I look around. And then I just leave. Why? Because it's overpriced. The brands that I can afford are sold at other, more convenient locations. Sure, there are a few unique items that might deserve a splurge and can't be found easily, but for the most part, that's not the case. If the service was incredible I might be willing to cut some slack, but I can't say it was anything special. As a guy if you're looking for a one-stop shop for all of your female-shopping needs this is the place. Girlfriend? Mother? Sister? Crazy lady in your building who has 13 cats and always listens to Enya on full blast but bakes you the occasional loaf of banana bread? Beauty Bar. They have an awesome collection of soaps, colognes, lotions, and other things that I will not admit to knowing that will make you look like you know what you're doing. Super friendly staff that will cater your purchase to what you're looking for and a wide array of scents that range from what I like to call, "Strawberries and Happiness" to "What you want your Grandma to smell like when you hug her." They even have stuff for men like high-end shaving cream and aftershave. Extra points for not carrying anything that I could see with the word "musk" on it. Prices are a bit on the higher-end but you definitely get the value for it. read more

This place is sickeningly sweet. The air is thick with pink froth, white lace and sugar. Beauty Bar is definitely cute but overbearingly so. They carry highly reputable lines (Fresh, Jing Jang, Miller Harris) but everything's just a bit much... down to the music on their website (which is on perma-rotation so be ready with the mute key if you visit the site). One major attraction, though, is the bar dedicated to men's products... perfect for the man in your life who insists that rubbing shaving cream with his hands is just as good as with a brush. read more

Beauty Bar 4th Ave. Vancouver -The rudest customer service starting from top down. The owner is abrupt, angry and entitled and appears she trained her staff to be as entitled, the one (s) that stuck around anyway. No smile, acts as if answering your question or having to pull out a product is enormous effort as it is and again, like they're doing the customer a favor. I spent close to a $100 and amongst the items I purchased, was sold two pairs of faulty lashes. The staff person (someone new again and obviously super inexperienced) that day had me waiting at the counter, I was the only one in the store, while she poked around at the back of the store. She looks up and sees me standing at the register and still doesn't acknowledge me? Finally, a few minutes later, says "can I help you?" from across the store. She tells me she'll have the owner call me (saying we can probably order these in as we have none left in this style- I honestly would have been happy to just replace them or get a refund), takes one of the pairs of lashes back (without refunding me-writes a note for the owner to take care of), modifies the other pair only to find when I get home the other eyelash that the store person left intact in the packaging -half remained glued to the case when removing them with tweezers as per norm, because it was so old. The owner never phoned me back and when I phoned in 4 days later, I politely start with : "hi, I'm X and..." abruptly, I get interrupted with a super angry "hold on" and then get hung up on. I phone back again and she answers extremely abruptly, obviously has an enormous amount of pent up anger and not only makes no apology, but comes flying out of the phone, "I already heard about this"... and when I bring to her attention "excuse me, but you're being rude" she hangs up on me! So, evidently, had no intention of ever calling me back, keeping the one product (left with a 2nd faulty one) and without any refund?! Literally, the most inappropriate unprofessional interaction I've had from customer to business owner! Seriously, not worth the products and never worth or deserving of customer abuse at any level. Still taken aback at this beyond inappropriate behaviour from a business owner, clueless level of "customer service" and entitlement. read more

This place is so cute, and definitely a gem in the W 4th area. I came here for the first time this week and was pleasantly surprised at all the amazing brands that they carried! Most brands they have, you can hardly find in Canada. Like for instance, Tocca. I absolutely LOVE Tocca fragrances and usually get them from Sephora, however I found that its fairly difficult to purchase a particular scent because they are always low in stock. The sales lady here informed me that they always order merchandise before they run out, so they're always in stock. I was so happy. And they also carried Tocca's bath and body products, and their lotions!! I was SUPER happy because they don't carry those products in the Sephora store only online, and I've always wanted to try them out before purchasing. I've always walked past this store leaving work and what always caught my attention was their window displays - filled beautifully with their hard to find brands. I'm so glad I finally made the time to come in. They have lots of testers here so you can always try out a product before purchasing. The ladies here seemed fairly knowledgeable and they were friendly/welcoming. Their prices are great to the quality of the products they carried. I ended up purchasing hand lotion but I wanted to stay longer however I was in a hurry. I will definitely be coming back to check out more of their stuff, and I will for sure be coming here to purchase my beauty products from now on. Such a great place to shop gifts for your girlfriends, sisters, or anyone because I think they carry men's products as well. read more

On the Deborah Lippmann site (US shipping only, so mentally add a few bucks to your total for a post box in Point Roberts) bottles run $16-18 USD, but Beauty Bar sells the same bottles for over $25+tax. read more

Couldn't believe a store could carry all the things I love in one place! Unique and beautiful jewelry, cosmetics, skin care, home fragrances... I spent an hour there looking, sampling and sharing my enthusiasm with knowledgeable staff. One of my absolute FAVE places to go when I need a pick-me-up, Beauty Bar on 4th Avenue pretty much defines what a great cosmetic and skin-care boutique should be. Since opening in 2005, BB has made it a rule to carry hard-to-find lines like Philosophy and Cargo Cosmetics, and pretty much sets the standard when it comes to spectacular service the staff is as exuberant about their products as their clients, and are always willing and able to help you take your beauty potential to the max. At BB, you can test to your heart' content, and ask the employees for the latest scoop on which celeb is wearing what, and what the latest must-have in cosmetics and skin care is. I will never, ever shop in this store again. The customer service is appalling, and the store manager left me with the worst taste in my mouth. She treated me like my faulty jewellery from her store was my own problem, and was unwilling to help. She spoke to me like a broken record, unhelpful and cold, so rude that I couldn't believe I was speaking with the manager! I have had one negative experience after another. If you want great products with knowledgeable, friendly staff where customer service is a priority, try Beauty Mark in Yaletown. I will never shop here again, and will make sure that my friends and networks avoid it as well. read more

Finally a store that carries a lot of brands that you can hardly find in Canada!! I was so excited I found this place when I was in Vancouver. I was in heaven!!! The first time I was there, I had such a good experience. The sale lady was super helpful and very informative. I felt like I have found my cosmetic mothership. The only thing that was kind of odd is that they have a lot of products as samples, but they do not have it in stock. That was kind of disappointing. Other than that, this store rocks! I love this place. As everyone has said, this place is pretty pricey - however, not everything is. You can go in and spend just a bit or a whole lot (think jewelry and/or jewelry boxes). The thing is, they carry many brands that are wonderful that you won't find at Sephora and the like - not even Holt's carries some of the more "boutique" items. They also carry beautiful hair trinkets and fragrances. It's a treat - I go in there when I want a little special treat for myself - something to add to my beauty line. Buyer beware! This store refused to give me a refund for an item that was clearly damaged when bought. I bought some hair accessories at this store a few days ago , but realized that they were damaged and unusable when I brought them home. I took them back to the store only to be told that they not offer refunds on their merchandise even if it was damaged when bought. I was offered to exchange the item, but did not see a reason for that since I expected the other (pretty pricey) item to be either also damaged or at the very least, very fragile. I was also offered a store credit but thought that was basically the same as throwing away money since I do not plan to ever shop at this store again, after this experience! They also refused to let me speak to anyone else that might be able to help me (manager, owner, etc). So just beware, if you buy something here and it's damaged, you are basically out of luck. The store is pretty pricey so you would expect not just good quality items but also a decent service. I was offered neither! read more
