I've also always wondered if it's possible to eliminate the variety of heady scents in the store a person encounters immediately upon walking into the store. Too bad they don't hire people with good customer service skills cause clearly a lot of these staff are lying in the interview process. Their were four staff at the cash wrap; one staff was helping a customer and the others were chatting amongst themselves. I was at the front of the line and no one was behind me. Last time I was at this location I had to get one of the cashiers to call someone over to help me find a specific product. Today was the same issue. I must have walked past 5 employees, not one made eye contact or said hi. None of them were even helping other customers. My makeup had came off my cheeks from walking in the rain and I came in asking her to help me cover my blemishes that started showing. She gave me not one but three brands to try as well as multiple shades. She even helped me set all my makeup. Most importantly she spoke to me like a friend or a person. She didn't try to shove a bunch of products down my throat and she was there solely to educate me. Thank you! read more

I really had to go here just to find brow products from Shu Uemura (particularly Hard Formula brow pencil) few weeks ago and there wasn't much testers lying around to use. Also items weren't well stocked and the colour I was looking for wasn't available. Therefore I had to look for assistance from staff but the staff next to me were goofing around each other. They were talking about who's taller and shorter while the store was busy packed with customers. Even one staff who seemed less busy was getting involved in a convo as well. That was so unprofessional. Therefore I went to the Bay instead to get the product I was looking for. Despite of the great store policy my experience was terrible and I never had this problem at Metrotown location. Plus it's a common sense to focus on work during the busy hours. read more

I had a poor experience making a return of a drunk elephant C serum that caused irritation on me. They lady had a bad attitude and she immediately accused me of not including all the "parts" of the product and said my return would be denied. Eventually I was able to get through to her and the manager that the product requires the user to mix the serum themselves by adding powder to a solution and obviously I would not have kept the empty bottle that the solution came in, after I added it to the powder container. I came by this location three weeks ago to ask about the personal beauty advisor appointments and the pushup liner that the Starbucks barista near work recommended. The person just inside the door recommended that I use the app to book a beauty advisor appointment so I did. And wow did I learn stuff I never knew I should know. A week later I was back for the free 45 (shorter) visit held in a different area of the store for more tips, tricks and advice (always good to seek a second opinion etc). What I didnt like: -if I am in person dont tell me to go online via an app (customer service?) - take a cue from Starbucks and take the time! -if you're going to tempt me with promised samples/freebies - dont make me go and order online to get them. -if I have a question about what becoming VIB means - don't make me ask four people in store (of which most had no interest in clarifying) -if i do look at ordering via the app - make it for dummies because I only ACCIDENTALLY discovered I had to select "canada" in the settings -if I take the time to write an email to customer service - ensure they READ the concern prior to replying. Both concerns I wrote about hd completely unrelated answers given. Huh? No...I'm certainly not a beauty or make up junkie, but anyone like me who is married to one sure is aware of the madness and excitement this brings to most women out there. Not to mention the financial damage that goes with it! The newly opened Sephora at the Pacific Centre Mall is no different than the stores you've seen in the States. Rows and rows of brightly lit counters and displays, with hundreds of products and brands available. The alphabetized brands of men's fragrances - my usual spot while waiting - offered most, if not all, brands you can see across the border. One will notice this location bigger than most stores, sizing at almost 7500 square feet with two entrances - one inside the lower level of the mall and the main entrance at the corner of Dunsmuir and Howe St. Best part for me here is sampling is encouraged, and a few teasers and samples are available at the counter once you pay up. On a weekend, the store was fully staffed. You could see they're prepared and able to cope with the opening weekend chaos. They are gracious and helpful when needed, though it may take a minute to look for an available one. I suspect it should be better once the initial hype has died down a bit. If they did not greet customers when the customers entered the store and when the customers passed them, then that means they did not genuinely welcome customers in the store when they came to ask the customers if they need assistance when the customers were looking at the products. They just want our money. The female employee stood nearby while I was looking at the product to see if it was sealed or not, and she spoke very softly while the music was loud in the background so I could not hear her. Then she shouted at me, "I was just saying please do not open the package." They did not have a sign that indicated "Please do not open the package." She did not need to shout at me; they need to turn down the background music and she needed to come closer to talk to me because she wore a mask. Furthermore, it was not good to see that there were a lot of staff on the floor chatting or just standing with only several customers in the store. Also, they should put all the sizes of the same products together on the shelf because customers might not find all the sizes they needed if they put them in a separated area. Moreover, they confused us by making the tax appear twice on the receipt so I thought they charged us twice for the PST and GST. I realized that when I looked at the receipt after I got home so I called them. The employee on the phone said she would get the manager. Then she said the manager was helping another customer and I might need to wait for several minutes. Then the manager picked up the phone right away and talked to me. She told me that I needed to go back into the store. This was unnecessary because she could simply look up my transaction in the computer with the information on my receipt. So I told her I could give her the information on the receipt and she can look up my transaction in the computer. Then she asked me when was I in the store so I told her the time. I offered to give her my phone number to access my profile but she said she did not need it. She told me she did not see anything from that time period. It was very inefficient for them to check the transaction using the time of transaction and not the transaction number of the receipt. She could have used my phone number to pull up my profile and see my transaction history. Then she said, "Oh, you have the receipt, that's great." That means she either misheard me at the beginning or she did not know the faster way to find the transaction. I was disappointed because she was the manager. She found the transaction finally and she told me that she did not know why the system would divide the amount of GST and PST on the receipt (if I add the two lines of GST, it would equal to the 5% of the subtotal; this applies to PST too). She said this was the first time she saw this. They needed to update their computer system because this would confuse the customers. P.S. the cashier asked us the kind of samples that we would like but she gave us the wrong ones. It just means they did not look at the products carefully before giving them to customers. read more

I come into this store almost everyday. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To cut into the mall from Dunsmuir Street. They actually do have a men's section, really they do, but I don't think most guys know that. It's in the corner towards the left if you enter from the mall. They have fancy shaving gels, soaps, oils, moisturizers, and other facial products for men. Labels such as Jack Black, Clinique, Lab Series, etc. I don't use any of it. I use McWilliams shaving soap with my DE safety razor. $1.79 @ Superstore. Lasts an awful long time, if you know how to lather it up properly for a nice wet shave. I shave like my grandfather. I like my safety razor. It's vintage 1965. It's not a disposable. It's SEXY! There is also a section for fragrances. I buy cologne once every ~7(?) years, even though I use it every day. My purchase rotation for Sephora has not come up yet. I'm not that metro when it comes to lotions and potions. Us guys have it easy in terms of grooming products. I wouldn't mind checking out Masc in Yaletown just for curiosity sake. Besides, metrosexual men are a thing of the past. Metro is LONG dead. "Douchebag" is in, and thanks to Mad Men, there is a retrosexual movement. I didn't see any douchebags in here today. Didn't see any retrosexuals either. I came to this Sephora to get the 15-minute mini-makeover that they advertise online. You have a whole bunch of options to choose from (e.g. Smokey Eye, Essential Eyeliner, Perfect Lip). It took a while to get a sales associate's attention, as it seemed pretty busy. But as soon as I did, they were able to have an employee get started on me right away. I asked if would be possible that instead of a Smokey eye, I could get more of a bright and colourful eye. I was going to an under-the-sea themed event later and figured bright and colourful would be absolutely appropriate! The sales associate was more than thrilled to help me out. She chose a plethora of amazing sea coloured eye shadows and quickly went to work. She was also more than helpful, giving me useful tips and answering all my make-up related questions along the way. The other employees would pop by and check out the make-up job. Even offering further advice. I felt like a total VIP!! I don't shop too often at Sephora, and would consider myself not too knowledgeable in the make-up department, but this was such a fun experience. I even bought some falsies! I went into Sephora for the first time in ages and I was incredibly impressed by the customer service. I was looking for a few products I wanted to get before going on vacation. One of the products I'd seen on line, so I took a screen shot to make finding it faster. The moment I walked in I was warmly greeted by someone at the front asking if she could help. I showed her the product and she knew it instantly. She called a beauty consultant to help me. She arrived within seconds. Her name was Kainat and she was friendly and very knowledgeable about the Sephora products. She helped me to find three more products that I had never tried, but thought would be perfect for my upcoming trip. She even brought up on her phone the instructions on how to apply one of them. She was engaging and lovely and made me feel like she really cared that I got just the right items. Kainat exemplifies exactly what customer service should be and I was grateful for her help. I was in the store just making a regular purchase when she approached me and asked if I'd consider having my brows shaped. I was hesitant at first, but she reassured me that she'd map out my brows and show me what would stay and what would go. Fast forward to 8 months later, and I receive the service of brow tinting and waxing every 6 weeks. Although I only see Queenie, I would fully trust all the staff that work there. Every time the highest level of service is provided. Everything is explained before it happens. My brows have never looked better, and I always get compliments. A few points to note. This review is strictly for the Benefit Brow Bar. Normally, I get my eyebrows done for $10 at the back of a nail salon, where no small chitchat is made and I'm in and out within a few minutes. Sometimes you have to treat yourself though. At $24 (without tint), this isn't a cheap service but it's a brow bar. This is their specialty. I walked in around lunch time and made an appointment to come back after work. When I came back, Jennifer greeted me and remembered me from earlier. She was friendly and down to earth. She explained what she was doing and spoke to me like a person, not just a customer. Although she told me about the different products she was using on my eyebrows, she wasn't pushy and I didn't feel like I had to buy any of them. The whole experience took just over 20 minutes. At the end, my eyebrows looked a thousand times better than they do after any back room at some nail salon. The only thing to note: they're not allowed to take tips. I went to the Sephora cash to pay and asked for change for a tip. Apparently the cashiers aren't aware that the Benefit Brow girls can't accept tips, as the cashier gave me change but didn't tell me anything (I had paid by credit card and asked for change. The cashier had to call a manager to open the till to give me change). When I went to the brow bar to give Jennifer tip money, another girl that worked there (Jennifer wasn't there) informed me they weren't allowed to take tips. All in all, great experience. Ok, I changed my mind about this place after only a week. Sephora gives great birthday gifts! I got a Benefit mascara and highlighter with my purchase. The fact that they do this, though they don't really need to, is a major plus in my books. You do have to sign up for their points card, but it is an easy process and totally worth it. Even Starbucks makes you register your card to give you ONE free birthday drink! Sephora gives you free birthday gifts ALL. MONTH. LONG. If you make a purchase, you get a birthday gift, it's just that simple. I think I'll take advantage of this one more time before my birthday month is over. The service was much better this time around too and the cashiers were quick. Also, this is the first time ever that I noticed The Nail Bar. Is this not the best thing ever? I had never been into a Sephora store before that moment in time, and now the floodgates have been opened and I am living my life as a sacrificial virgin who succumbed to the myth of $85 dips and creams that promise to get me laid. What I am trying to say is that I was completely overwhelmed by how many products there actually are out there that women are willing to spend money on to be beautiful. Holy *bleeping* shit! One of the sales reps was kind enough to help me with my ongoing battle to cover the (un-Prada-like) bags under my eyes, and gave me a sample of a product she swears by, as well as a sample of a moisturizer for my skin which is supposed to defy gravity and do all those things they say on TV to justify the $90 pricetag. I feel like I should take a before and after picture of my face so I can ask for my money-back guarantee when I don't see any results. Sephora had me by the jugular with excitement, because I LOVE glam-y makeup and glitter and cute things with skulls (hello TokiDoki) and I did end up buying something, but I still live in fear of what this place could potentially do to my life savings. The customer service I received was great, free samples, recommendations, friendly staff, and I even got a free gift because I signed up for their points card and my birthday has just passed, the only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because as I have stated so many times already= waaaaaaaaaay overpriced. read more

Wow, guess it took me awhile to finally buy something here, as I was always so disappointed when comparing to the US. The customer service was great all around. I tried some Fresh eye cream that burned my skin. Actually, everything that I tried on my eyes there--other than water--burned my skin. I was quite disappointed in this as I love the Fresh eye wash that also doubles as a make up remover. I'd highly recommend that. But, that certainly wasn't the store's fault. All of the girls working here were great, in fact. What was disappointing was to see such long lines on a busy Saturday. But that's what you get when there is only one Sephora in the city, I guess. Anyway, our check-out clerk was quite efficient, and my companion pointed out that in the three times that he'd been there (I have him well-trained now) he'd always had the same cashier. Also, Fresh has now changed their packaging. My beautiful tube came sealed, then placed in a box, and then in another sleeve made from cardboard. How absolutely ridiculous. This is Vancouver, not Japan, and the owners of Fresh should be ashamed of themselves for this waste. But that was no fault of the store. My partner did point out how he wished he was in cosmetics as all products are essentially the same. But that's another story. :) So, I spent almost $50 on one over-priced product plus a few samples to try and went merrily on my way. Look, if you're a downtown baby then this is your jam. By far it is NOT my favorite Sephora. But after the last experience, I just HAD to write a review for my default home location. 1st, the bad - ALWAYS too busy, too crowded, isles WAY tooo close together as if they took 2 locations and pushed them into one! Grrr! Also the staff never seems to really be paying attention 2 me which is not surprising since it seems to always be bursting-to-full of girls. Now, the good just becuase the staff IS knowledgeable, honest (I asked about vegan and was was told "um no we dont have that", even told a line wasn't that I had thought was! So they get points in the retail sector for not lying), Well done up (I ALWAYS get make up ideas & inspiration by just looking as the girls working), & NICE. This last time, I needed a lot of stuff and am kinda poor right now, I looked at what I wanted (REN) but the sets didn't have what I needed. Ended up settling on NUDE toner (was about $30), had over 100 points so when I got up to cash I asked the cashier if they had any moisturizer and was given a great new Lancome product that I'm sure will last 2 weeks at least. Sephora should train all other retail company's on how to give exceptional client service..seriously..through my many years as a loyal client I have never once received poor service...ever..and that's a bold statement.. Now...the Vancouver location us busy...understament...REALLY busy..it's new to the city and therefor we are going crazy for it...and since it's busy it's only logically that at times it may be hard to get someone to assist you -HOWEVER -when you do they are extremely helpful, educated, and aware...and while sometimes you may not get one on one undivided attention..you will always have questions asked and be followed up with... The thing I love the most is that they don't bug you at Sephora..you can feel free to browse at your leisure and not be stalked by pesky associates..and when you do need help they are always there with a vast wealth of knowledge... Sephora only carries PETA approved brands and are big believers in options..and so they now have a large selection of natural/organic lines for makeup and skin care! Firstly, what is up with half the staff wearing caked on theater make-up? Seriously. Is there even a face underneath that? Unless you're in a magazine photo shoot it's such a turn off to see so much caked on make up on someone, especially the foundation. Okay now that I got that out of my system we can move on to the important task at hand, make up. I love my make-up especially my bold colors. It's hard for me to find certain colors, however, I finally, 5 years later found an alternative to mac for baby blue and bubble gum pink cream make-up. It's the OCC line (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics). The make up is called Lip Tar. The lady helping me, although very sales orientated and less warmth, was extremely helpful and managed to suggest other selections to ensure that there was no melting and to water proof my make up. Prices per tube were very reasonable at $22 each. This line is gluten free. They have a lot of other gluten free make-up selections. read more

Encountered the really short Asian girl (manager?) working there who was quite impatient with me - I asked for recommendations for a primer and upon telling her my skin type (sensitive, prone to breakouts, but combination) she looked really annoyed, like as if I was trying to be a difficult customer. She did show me one primer & provided a sample, but the attitude the entire time was "I'm too busy this is an annoyance I have better things to do" (she was telling other staff to take breaks on her headset etc.). Avoid this store at peak times, it's a zoo. In contrast, the Robson store is often less insane, and I've received mostly excellent service there several times. read more

Having moved from Toronto to Vancouver, I wondered where the local Sephora was the first time I had one of these beauty attacks. I was sorry to find out the beauty mega-shop hadn't found its way to the West Coast of Canada yet. Fast-forward a few years and the city on the coast finally has its own makeup mecca. Sephora is located inside Pacific Centre, just inside one of the entrances to the mall. And, true to form, it's packed with products for primping and preening. I won't write about the mountains of makeup you can browse through, test and purchase at Sephora (everyone already knows about that). However, one thing I do like a lot about the store are the Beauty Express Service counters, where you can have a seat and get complimentary makeup application as well as a tutorial. Options include a smoky eye, pouty lips or some high-def skin primer and powder. read more

I have always been a little disappointed with the service at this store and today started out the same. I wasn't approached as I walked in, even though there was a sales rep there and as I walked toward another, she ducked behind a pillar to talk to a friend so needless to say I wasn't too impressed to start. I saw one sales rep doing inventory so I approached her, explained my need and she had someone come help me. Funny enough it was the rep that ducked behind the pillar. Lucky enough I wasn't going to be a crazy, demanding shopper and was able to find what I needed in under 5 min. Where the 4 stars come in is with Sylvia at the cash register. She was very helpful while I exchanged a couple of items. One of which was the nail drying drops that never seemed to work for me. Sylvia was able to offer an idea (putting my hands in cold water) to help the drying process. She was also very friendly and we had a good time in the couple of minutes she served me. I've spent more money here on my teenaged daughter who could probably teach me a lot on how to apply make-up without looking like a whore, or worse, a tranny. Not that there's anything wrong with being a whore or a tranny, they're just not the looks I'm usually going for when I apply eyeshadow and lipstick. Seriously I just never mastered the art of make-up myself. Regardless I could spend a lot of time in here checking out all the options for a highly polished, woman about town. #30daysofyelp 13/30 I LOVE THIS STORE! I am bit of a make up and skin care junkie and I love checking out their stuff either online or in store. So if I am in love with them, why am I giving them only 4 stars instead of 5? Well, it's through no fault of their own; it's because the prices are more than the states. This really irks me because I have their U.S. version app on my phone and when I check something out, the price is always lower than the one on Canadian store. Otherwise, they carry the latest stuff in make up and skin care. I also love that they carry so many different brands. Their selection is way better than The Bay and The Holt Renfrew combined. They also carry natural line which is fantastic because I am trying to use more natural stuff. As for customer service, I usually get great service. There are occasion when I know more about the products than them because I like to look up the stuff I am buying but other than that, if you ask for samples they are usually willing to give you a sample to try it out before buying. I've also heard that they have excellent refund service. If you are not completely satisfied, they will give you the money back even if you use it. I am absolutely appalled by the service here! The whole time I was in the store I felt as if I was being watched. The short asian manager was watching me as If I was doing something wrong. I could tell they were talking about me on their headsets because the other employees would look at me and nobody was asking if I needed help. I eventually left without buying what I needed because I was so disgusted and pissed off. I was treated so poorly as if I had done something terrible. I advise you not to shop at this location as they have NO respect for their customers. read more
