The night before when the nurse called me, I explained my entire medical situation to her and let her know that I just started the third round of antibiotics minutes before she called as my body wasn't reacting to the antibiotics I had been taking. The next morning of my appt I wasn't well, very nauseas. I called to let them know I'll have to reschedule after my antibiotics were done. All she said is... well you spoke to the nurse right and she cleared you regarding the antibiotics? I said yes.. she said so we'll have to charge you... hope it was worth the $50! Response to Mary after my original message... Thank you for the response, Mary. However, it misses the point entirely. While I understand and respect cancellation policies, they are typically designed to prevent 'no-shows' or casual cancellations, not to penalize a client experiencing a sudden medical crisis. I was proactive and transparent with your nurse the night before. Unfortunately, health situations--especially those requiring multiple rounds of intensive antibiotics--can escalate unexpectedly overnight. Expecting a patient to 'predict' they will be too ill to leave the house 24 hours in advance during a medical emergency is unreasonable. Offering to have me come in 'later that day' when I had already explained I was unwell and under strict medical care shows a complete lack of empathy and basic listening. To charge a $50 penalty under these specific, documented circumstances is a choice that prioritizes a small fee over human compassion and long-term client relationships.
