So here's the thing- I was initially nervous about getting extensions because I had heard horror stories about how they thin your natural hair. Enter: Megan: My long-time hair color fairy and the guardian of my hair (lol). Knowing she'd never steer me wrong, when I expressed interest in extensions, I was confident my hair underneath would be fine. 1.5 years later and I just recently took the extensions out for a summer break (your girl runs hot!) and I am so impressed by the state of my scalp and hair now. Not only has my amount of hair not diminished, I even feel like it's much healthier than before the extensions. I would think this is due to expert installation as well as the fact that the extensions lengthened the time between washes (my fine hair used to get so weighed down and greasy, so I used to have to wash very often, and the extensions prolonged the volume). I will definitely be doing extensions again, especially now that I know that I can easily get them installed and take breaks as needed. Megan was also able to help me extend the life of my extensions with education on how to care for them, so I still have them in a bag for when I go back to long, voluminous, vavavoom hair. Once again- no one is allowed to touch my hair with color or extensions unless their name is Megan Essig. Previous review: 5 Stars for extensions that perfectly match my hair and have changed my whole hair routine! It's been 8 months now of having extensions by Megan and I could not be happier. She is an absolute expert at color matching and she helps you buy the extensions directly from the supplier (no upcharging here!) from there the install is totally painless and flawless. I surprise people constantly when I let them know I have extensions because it looks like my real hair and the roots don't stick out prominently. The best part? I thought this would add to my hair care routine time, but on the contrary- I can go longer between washes and styling because it holds the style so well and doesn't get greasy. So now my natural hair is healthier. Truly wild because of the things I've heard from others about what extensions did to their hair. I think it's a testament to the way she installs them and the care that's taken. When I started seeing Megan, she spent an immense amount of time showing me where my where my previous hair dresser had damaged my hair and showed me how I can take better care of my hair. I had literal bald spots. She focused on getting my REAL hair healthy before we even entered into extension territory. She was kind, confident, and agreed to take her on. Come prom day, we arrived a little early, though we weren't seen before our scheduled time--but we were taken right on time, which I appreciated. I was also advised that weekly $150 blowouts were necessary to properly "maintain my investment," which I followed consistently. The issues began immediately after a mini move-up performed by Lizzy. While still in the salon, my scalp began severely itching. During my blowout, I had to stop the stylist multiple times due to the intensity of the irritation. Within three days, the row shifted and began falling out. This progressed into pain and visible shedding directly along the rows. When I first reached out, I simply asked to have the row reinstalled. I did not accuse anyone or demand a refund. If I believed I had caused the issue, I would have gladly paid to have it corrected. Instead, I was told it may have been caused by pulling or possibly a health issue. At the same time, I was advised to remove the extensions myself using pliers while experiencing pain and hair loss. These explanations conflicted with the fact that symptoms began immediately following the service. The only reason I trimmed a small exposed portion of weft while traveling was because the row had already shifted and was visibly unraveling after the move-up. In a later conversation, it was acknowledged that the situation was not handled professionally. I was told an owner would contact me to discuss it further, but I did not receive that follow-up. For clarity, clients are instructed to contact Lizzy directly rather than the salon regarding services. The extensions were ultimately removed because my natural hair was being compromised.
