I've been coming to this salon to get my hair done for at least a year. Such a great experience! I always make an appointment with Gina, who is super friendly and talented. I haven't worked with anyone else there, because the quality of service and experience from Gina is so great! I usually get full highlights and a trim, which I believe is fairly pricey and worth the money. The other reviews are interesting to read. Kind of all over the place. The salon is in a two story former boarding house (I think?). It has that general "beauty salon" feel to it with all the products, set up spaces, and signage/posters. But in a neat looking older house. I love that it is walkable from my apartment on the East Side because parking in that area is a nightmare. So, I'd rather just walk for 25 minutes or less. So I had a review for this place and now it's gone**mysteries of the universe** anywho.. So I go through spells of being a girlie girl but more often than not I'm more of a semi athletic tomboy. All that being said, I hate when I start to get wacky crazy wolfman eyebrows. So I come here and they clean up my messy brows into pretty little arches. I occasionally come for haircuts & they are good at listening and working with you on your hair cut. Its a pretty'trendy' salon but you don't get weird crazy "sprockets" vibe you get at other salons. They are reasonably priced for their services. I also love that they are open on Sundays, and Saturdays early (8 am) so never a problem getting an appointment. read more

I love going here to get my hair done! I had struggled finding a salon I liked for a while, and finally found this one on google. I have had a very positive experience every time I went. Every employee who has done my hair there has been really friendly, nice, and hasn't made me feel intimidated at all. I tend to feel intimidated at salons, and don't really enjoy conversing with most hair stylists because they seem really fake, but not here! I used to go to Neroli and people there were snooty and would tell me no when I asked for certain things. I got told twice by a hair stylist at Neroli that I would look too "emo" if she did what I wanted... which once, was getting a bob, and the other, dark brown hair dye. Now I go to Beauty and they shave half my head and dye my hair all kinds of crazy colors and do not judge me! I get my hair done by Ashley now. I wanted a really specific haircut, and she did it perfectly. I have gone to her several times for different haircuts and every time she has done exactly what I want. She also will make suggestions or give ideas which I like, as I'm not someone who is usually totally set on what I want. She doesn't try to sell me products constantly like other salons, and she also doesn't scold me for not getting my hair cut monthly like most other salons. We have conversations and she remembers things I have told her from the last time. Even after the first time I went to her, the next time I came in she was asking about my boyfriend, remembered where I went on vacation. The inside of the store is very clean and open. You don't have to sit too close to other people, and there are no awkward seats right in front of a window that people walk by on the sidewalk. I think the price here is pretty good. 35-40 for a haircut is a good price to someone like me, who does not need to get my hair cut more than once a month. It is pretty expensive to get your hair dyed, but I think it is pretty standard to most hair places these days. read more

Total "meh". I've been here several times (i.e. tried different stylists) since the salon opened many years ago, and although I love the location and the building (old house), I can't say that I've ever loved my hair after leaving. The last time I was there (November of 09) I got a Kerastase treatment and a blowout and was completely underwhelmed. The treatment, which was supposed to be volumizing, didn't do anything, and the blowout was awful. The stylist also kept saying how badly she wanted to cut my hair, even though I explained that I was trying to grow out a bad cut. I also noticed on that last visit that the salon was looking a bit run down/dirty compared to how it looked years ago. Beauty is hit or miss. I've had several really good haircuts and then two bad ones. The most recent bad haircut was when I asked to have my thick hair thinned a bit. The stylist went nuts with the thinning shears and I was left with a frizzy mess. I called to see if I could get a refund and they offered to have her fix it but there isn't much hair left to fix so the only good thing is that it'll grow back. I won't be going back to Beauty but it's mostly because of their customer service. I'm forgiving and always willing to try again with an open mind (which is why I went back after botched haircut #1 five years ago). The reason this salon lives on is because they're riding on a reputation from years ago. They really don't stand by their product (hair styling) and never learned the #1 rule in business: your customer is always right. read more

I came across Beauty by total chance after meeting Alicia and got her card. After having a bad experience with a salon here usually ranked #1 on Yelp, I was leery but decided to give it a shot. It was fantastic! I'm from the east coast and I wish I could take Alicia back with me when I leave in a few months. She did a consultation, talked through how I typically style it, walked me through her plan and then started. She was meticulous in every step, all the while making sure I was comfortable and able to have casual conversation. The setting is adorable, the products are great and the prices are reasonable. No I don't plan on returning because your shop really needs to improve their customer relations!!! First, I wasn't notified when Jason left before my appointment with him. I get to your shop for his appointment and I was told Rose would be the stylist. Ok turned out Rose was great. Second, I was sent an "apology" letter stating my next haircut would be half off! Great-- but when I arrived for my second cut with Rose I had forgotten the silly letter. Even though your receptionist remembered that I was stood up originally by Jason, your shop wouldn't honor the discount WITHOUT the letter. Ok ridiculous I thought but continued to come. Third, I tried making an appointment with Rose only to find out Rose had left and the only appointment BEFORE the discount expiration was today but with a stylist NOT listed on the stupid letter! I made the appointment thinking Your shop would honor ITS LETTER. Silly me-- no it didn't. Fourth, I was told your shop would honor the discount today on the last day--BUT I'd have to get the color AND THEN come back later today to see ANOTHER stylist to get the "apology" discount that was your shop's idea in the first place. However, I decided not to go back because it's really not a place that is "guy friendly." I guess that my first clue should have been the name, but oh well. I live in DC now, but I got married in Milwaukee last fall. Bree did my hair for my wedding, and it was PERFECT. She gave me exactly what I wanted along with a little extra that I didn't even know that I wanted. Being from out of town, I was really rolling the dice using someone who had never done my hair before for such a big day! I cannot believe how lucky I am that out of all the stylists in Milwaukee, I found Bree (my mom, sister-in-law, and BFF all looked amazing as well). I've been coming to Beauty for almost 5 years and the level of service that they provide is unbeatable. All of the staff are very professional, honest and down to earth. I've been coming in every 6-8 weeks for a cut and color with my phenomenal stylist Tyler. Every time that I want to change something up Tyler will take the time to listen to me and discuss my options. He also takes the time to give me an incredible blow out after every service, which is getting harder to find at salons. I'm a huge fan of the lines of product that they carry and the staff are all really knowledgeable about the products. I've tried several different salons in Milwaukee and I've found that Beauty staff are not only incredibly talented, but very genuine as well-not to mention that the price that you're paying for the level of talent that they have there is amazing. read more

I just got back from my first haircut at Beauty. I have nothing but good news! Stephanie did an amazing job. I have been looking for a regular stylist I can count on and I just found her! I have a lot of hair and it usually takes over an hour. But today, I was in and out in 45 minutes. There really is no better feeling than realizing you are in good hands and Stephanie gave me that feeling immediately. The place itself was great; I was offered tea right away and someone took my coat for me. Very neat building and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Can't wait to go back! Also the price was very fair. Five stars?? More like six! I first started coming to Beauty when I had my hair cut for donation 3 years ago. Since then I have never been disappointed. Jason, stylist extraordinaire, is a sculptor of hair. Always with a vision, I allow him to do as he pleases from color to cut - and I've always been thrilled with the result. Since seeing Jason I have moved to Madison and have continued to make the long trek to continue to see him (for those that don't know that is a 3 hour car ride round trip). When I'm complimented (which happens constantly) I tell people about Beauty and Jason. Some have even remarked that "he must be good" or "I'd be willing to drive to Milwaukee to have that hair!" Really wanted to like this place, a fun hive of activity, but miscommunications abound. Explained I liked a photo on THEIR OWN website, for the color. Dark brunette like mine with well-placed copper highlights. Selected the same colorist, shared the feedback, explained I wanted thin hair spots minimized and grey covered. The result is my hair looks lighter, not highlighted. No copper at all. She said she was going to blend in the ends, and the color would meld in with the grey. Instead, the treatment brought out silver I didn't even know I had. So the top is lighter brown with silver peeking out all around, while the ends are very dark. When I asked what happened, I was told grey treatment was a "separate process". And the color would "come out in the right light" Shouldn't the grey treatment have been presented up front? Why are the ends dark and the crown light? The clincher - as I was leaving, I was introduced to the model from their photo - the receptionist! I commented that she had her hair done again, as it looked light brown with subtle blonde babylights. She corrected that, saying no, it just grew out a few inches. Her hair color looked NOTHING like the photo - it was light brown and lighter brown. Did the shop alter the color in the photo? That should have been shared BEFORE anything was done! Now my hair looks faded, not highlighted, and I have to get the new sliver fixed. ~sigh~ Very disappointed, clearly this is not the salon for my hair. read more

Walking into Beauty Inc can be an intimidating experience if you're not gorgeous, underweight, and oozing hipness. The interior is amazing to look at, and it is fun to imagine what the building looked like as the family home it used to be years ago. Despite the intimidation, their stylists are both friendly and skilled. For a nice sum of money they use those skills to make at least your hair and eyebrows beautiful. (They have other services that I have yet to try.) read more

I really think Beauty's services are comparable to other high-end salons in the area, but what sets it apart is its artistic approach to hair. They are always cutting-edge (no pun intended) and ahead of trends. I actually had a bad experience at their walk-in salon the Cutting Group and then went to Beauty to get my cut fixed. They got me in right away, at the end of the night and the owner was very gracious and instructed my stylist to offer a new haircut at no cost (it was really off from what I originally asked for). I've been coming to Beauty for over a year now after getting a really horrible haircut somewhere else. Making an appointment is fast and easy even though I'll often see two stylists at the same appointment. Monique cuts my hair and Shannon colors it. I have a short cut that Monique is the master of. She's really good at figuring out what I'll like by looking at pics that I bring her and knowing my level of hair styling ability. I always get a ton of compliments about my haircut- even from strangers. I've also referred a few friends who also get great cuts for her. My color choices are always pretty alternative and Shannon is always excited to get her hands dirty with my colors and ideas. read more

i went to beauty for my first haircut since moving to MKE with some trepidation, as i had picked the place based on basically nothing aside from proximity and hours, and i have unruly hair to begin with and a lot of damage on top of it. got there slightly early but was taken care of immediately; staff were courteous and professional; jason, my stylist, was friendly without being overbearing -- and most importantly left me with a haircut i'm perfectly happy with, which hadn't happened since leaving new england in 2009. the space is super cool, and i found the "vibe" to be young and trendy without giving off a snotty/pretentious air, nor like anyone over age 25 or size 0 would be sneered at. definitely will return! read more

I recently went to Beauty with a hair crisis... I wanted to look like a natural red head with brown mixed in but the salon I had gone to before (not Beauty) version of red and mine were completely different. I looked like Ronald Mcdonald. I called Beauty and they got me in as quickly as possible and set me up with Ruby. She did an excellent job and my hair looks exactly how I wanted it. She did a full consult and made sure she really understood what I wanted. I want be going to another salon after seeing her. Great place, fun atmosphere. My only complaint... they don't serve wine :) The last one I went too served complimentary wine which makes it that much more relaxing. read more

Beauty is a fun looking place, with cheap rates, and heaps of employees. (I think my stylist said there are something like 50 different employees there to choose from.) However, I have never had product pushed at me so aggressively by a salon and I left with a really botched haircut. The waiting area is basically a product shop with a few benches tucked in the corners. As I waited in it for my turn, I watched as nearly every customer was walked out from the salon-area and into the product-area so their stylist could select products for them to buy. Then, when I met my stylist, she started pitching me new products from the moment I sat in the chair, through the shampoo, the styling etc. I've never experienced so much selling from start to finish, it's not something I'm used to and it was a big turn-off. There are so many stylists at Beauty, I'm sure many of them are very good and if you find the right person, you'll be all set. The rates are pretty good too. Unfortunately, I had a really bad experience with the stylist they assigned me for my (first) visit there. The initial cut was a pretty poor job, with some really undeveloped layers. I went back to get a bit more shape and, by the time I left, my hair was literally over 1/2 inch uneven on the right-side. I was pretty upset with the results and finally went to a second salon to get it corrected. Like I said though, I think this was just a poor experience with one particular stylist, I'm sure there are many skilled people there. Overall though, with the product pushing and my uneven hair, I'm not sure I'm interested in going back. read more

I came to Beauty to get a touch up on my ombre color. I arrived 10 minutes early and unfortunately waited an additional 30 minutes for my stylist to finally run down the stairs. When she finally was able to attend to me she was also working on another client at the same time and was unfocused and rushed. She didn't foil my hair and it turnout brassy and uneven. It was a terrible experience and I left feeling terrible about my new hair color and actually teared up on the drive home. I decided to not call for a correction since it is winter and my hair is processes enough. Hope to have it fixed some time soon when I can afford it. Not the best start to the Holidays. read more

My boyfriend travels for work and I got to tag along on a trip to Milwaukee. I thought I would take some of my free time during the day and do something nice for myself. I made an appointment at Beauty in Downtown since it was in walking distance for a haircut and I think it was the best haircut I have ever had. I forget the stylist name sadly, but I did ask her to move to Minneapolis where I live or maybe work out an arrangement to meet me half way. I have search high and low for someone in Minneapolis who could make me that happy and haven't found it yet. It's has been about 4 months and I still want to go back just for a haircut. My boyfriend for once noticed my haircut without me having to say something and he still randomly brings up that was his favorite haircut I have had. That's gotta say something! read more

I'm very picky about my long, brown hair. It's very fine, but there's a lot of it. Certain methods of cutting my hair can make it a nightmare to deal with while some other methods make it a breeze to deal with daily. I met Ashley originally at Cutting Group where I got a great cut.
