I recently purchased a wig from beauty plus one that I really liked.. it was supposed to be new. After wearing it just one time the wig started to fall apart .. When I took the wig back to the store a day later they refused to return or exchange it. I was extremely angry because I had made purchases with them before and never had a problem. I recently moved to this area and needed to find a hair store that had everything that I needed (wigs, make-up etc.) They have several styles of wigs that are contemporary and within a decent price range however; I walked out of the store with nothing due to the poor customer service. It seems as if this place is ran by a husband and wife that don't seem to be in the same page as far as how they treat their customers. When I first walked in and asked where the wigs were, the gentleman was very nice and pleasant however the wife trailed me around to make sure I didn't stuff anything in my purse. I asked both for a few wigs in my color; unfortunately the only person that gave me a difficult time was the lady that worked there. The gentleman was very attentive to what I was looking for and asked several times if I needed assistance. My Recommendation Needless to say, my recommendation is to only go into this establishment if you absolutely have no other option available (meaning its almost closing time and you need something super quick) because you will get a not so pleasant attitude and you may even be trailed around the store like a criminal. 0 Stars should be a Yelp option (lol) If there was a way to give this place 0 stars, that's what they would get because it's not deserving of 1. read more

I'm going to preface this review by saying I grew up in PG county where beauty supply stores were a dime a dozen. In high school we used to buy colorful Parasuco knock offs to wear to the go-go from the Beauty Supply store in Seat Pleasant on MLK. I've dyed my hair multiple shades of brown and red with Jazzing only to bring back my natural black with Bigen! We used to experiment with Hawaiian Silky relaxers, then I graduated to Mizani and Natural Oasis products. I remember walking up the street to re-up on my hair supplies, copping some fly earrings, lipstick/gloss, liner, a belt, heck; almost a whole outfit if I was in a pinch!! Sally's was a joke compared to the no name Asian owned beauty supply stores. OK, I'll set you free from this walk down memory lane! After moving to Ho. Co, I've had difficulty finding a local beauty supply store that could fulfill my need for a little of that ratchedness from my past (Where did you get those earrings from?). Especially now that I'm paying for the hair sins of my past and I'm now chemical free. Sooooo, Beauty Plus 1 to the rescue!!!! They carry just about everything from Black N Sassy products to Raw organic shea butter. They have a wide selection of hair weaves and wigs (I'm not too knowledgeable in that area), costume jewelry, and cosmetics. I was pleased with some of the higher end product lines they carry as well. The employees/owners don't follow you around making you feel like a thief, they also know what products they carry which is very helpful. Went to look at synthetic wigs, needed one quick to replace the one I had been wearing for a couple weeks. I had my own wig on when I went to the store and was hoping to find something similar. A small Asian woman followed me around for a few minutes before questioning me about the wig I had on. I thought it was odd cause I had only been in the store a few minutes and walked right by her when I came in. Her questions got more aggressive then she insinuated that I had stolen the wig I had on. I told her that I had it on when I came in and began to walk toward the door and she followed right behind me. I left and never went back again. Although it is very close to my house, I will never spend my money in a store that profiles customers. Their ridiculous accusations about stealing when I walked in with my own wig on sealed! DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT SHOP HERE. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING. I make over 100k, drive a foreign car, live in a beautiful home, and have several degrees, including a doctorate. I have not worked hard my entire life to be treated like a thief. If you think your customers are thieves I have two suggestions: 1. Get into a different profession. 2. Sell to people that you think are not thieves. I was leaving a skateboard park with my 5 year-old and on our way home, I started looking for a beauty supply store close by. I had on a $2,500 purse and $500 dollar North Face Jacket. I pick up a $10 brush and proceed to the front of the store to check-out. While at the front, I started to look at some products and then I see the woman/owner come stand behind me and my 5-year old. She began to watch us. I didn't turn around immediately as I did not want to assume that we were being watched . After about 3 minutes, I turned around and she is actually looking directly at us. I said I hope you are not watching us because that would be ridiculous. I then thought, they will NOT get my money. I immediately walked up to the register and placed my things on the counter. The woman was now walking behind the counter towards the register and I said I will not purchase anything from a store where I am being watched and followed. The lady at the register was Latina and looked confused. The owner started saying that's fine and starting yelling in her native language to her husband. I was stereotyped because of the color of my skin. She didn't look at me to assess character, look at what I was wearing, or take into consideration that I was with my child. She is disrespectful and rude. We are all children of God and deserve to be treated with respect and humility. God is the ultimate judge and I will allow him to get justice for me. I implore you not to shop at this store and buy from these people. They do not respect or appreciate the community they are serving that support their families. read more

So I go to this place very often so my daughter and her friend and I go today and the two of them are touching the hair on the mannequins so the owners go off, I get it they shouldn't touch it but they are children find a better way to talk to them and I told them that, furthermore if you don't want people to touch it don't put it out. If I could give these people less than 1 star I would. I went in with the sole intention of buying a wig that is shorter than my own hair so that I wouldn't cut my mid-back length hair off. I have curly hair and it does admittedly look big, but my curls are soft and they lie down easily. That being said, I found the perfect wig and wanted to purchase a wig cap to try it on just to make sure it was a good length for my face. When I took the mannequin up to the lady who worked there and asked how many wigs you're allowed to try on with the purchase of a wig cap (standard practice), she said simply "no". I asked her "no what?". She then told me my hair was too big to try anything in the store on and that I'd have to braid it down and that I couldn't try anything in the store on. I don't understand as I have tried hundreds of wigs on in my life and have never had an issue? I'm trying to give your business my hard earned money and you don't want it because you say my hair is "too big"? I feel like there are plenty of women who come in and try wigs on every day and purchase said wigs with every hair type and texture? Believe me when I say that it's NOT only "non whites" that get treated this way! I've been here several times, with, and without my teenage Daughter. They DO follow you around, they DO "eye you up" when you're looking, and they are NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL! One of my friends (AA) had a horrible experience there, but I told her that they do this to everyone! I have no clue HOW they've stayed in business! Yes, they have an awesome makeup and cosmetic section, but it's the service that people hate! Why can't the owners take some type of "respect and compassion" seminar that shows them how to treat customers?! Paying customers, at that! I get that they're "older" people, BUT you CANNOT treat everyone as a thief, just because it's happened in the past. So awful! They also have NUMEROUS mirrors in the store, so why follow people around?! Or, maybe get some type of sensor that will go off if someone steals?! Truly terrible! I've always felt "rushed", too. They make you feel as if you can't "browse" the store! They just want you to buy something RIGHT AWAY and get out! Wow! It's a real shame, because their products are fairly priced with a great selection! I just wish someone working there would treat people differently! Walk away shaking their heads if u ask a question, follow behind you if you linger near area too long as if they expect you to just purchase something immediately without making sure it what you want, and to top it off the older asian man with the long hair SNATCHED a mirror out of my hand as I was checking my hair color against an extension! So I read the reviews with a preconceived notion that I was gonna be profiled and treated with ignorance. Needless to say my husband told me don't go in with your guards already up so I said "I'll be cool" but I just knew with this au natural pink Afro on my head (I just took my weave out ) that it was gonna be something. I noticed an older Asian man with long grey hair ringing up a customer, I asked him if he could point me in the direction of the braiding hair. He kindly told me and pointed to the back . I felt good about this encounter ( didn't have a run in with the lady.... yet) I searched and searched and couldn't find the color braiding hair I needed because as I stated my hair has been colored pink or better yet Magenta (hardest color ever to find). Needless to say husband and I started walking toward the front of the store to leave... moments later we hear what sounds like running, I mean fastttt running.... as we turned around and much to our surprise there's the lady everyone was reviewing about running right behind us as we were walking out the door.... Went into this store on 5/3/2018 and never in my life did I feel more angry for my daughters and my wife. They were treated like second class citizens as soon as they walked through the doors. Badgered, followed, asked not to touch things as if this were a museum of fine arts. Its a hair store. You're meant to read items, feel hair, and if you want, try on wigs. I will never return here after the looks the associates and owners gave me and my family. It felt like down south in the 50's. They deserve no stars for that. After my last experience with Beauty + 1, I will never go in there again and spend my hard earned money. It all started when the man with long grey ponytail starting yell at me because I wanted to know about some Marley Braids for my little girl. I don't know what Marley Braids are and was getting them because the person that was doing my little girl's hair use those braids. This man starting yelling at me in front of my child and I had to put him in his place. I told him not to yell at me because I don't have to spend my money in this place. He tells me go ahead and leave and that's what I did, but not before going off in there. My bad, and my apologies I shouldn't have gotten out of character like. Also, thanks to the two ladies that help me get out of the store. Never the less I felt the sting of racism and disrespect as never before from any establishment I shopped in. That old grey haired man offered me no apology for yelling at me. Just disrespect. Black People time and time again we keep being told that we need to do better and it's true. Never go in any place where you are spending your money and get disrespected as if you are nothing or a dog. The Asians come in our neighborhoods and sell black products to us and they don't even like us or respect us, nor do they see us as human beings. The capitalize off us and demean us all at the same time while taking our money. Let's stop giving it to them and find some black owned beauty supply stores or order on line. I have 5 mixed daughters so I go here all the time for their different styles in synthetic hair. they have a wide selection of hair care products some that I even love to use in my hair. Very friendly and always helpful. They dont follow you around making you feel uncomfortable or rushed as most beauty supply stores do and As a white female they dont take advantage of my lack of knowledge in the different hair and so fourth like I have had done in a previous store I was in on Baltimore National Pike who tried to sell me virgin hair for like 200 an some dollars for 1 PACK when I was trying to find the little $1. and some pack for doing my daughters hair than claimed ohhh idk where that hair is when i told them i didnt want that kind but was ready and willing to run and grab that $200 pack. The owner /employee was rude, unhelpful, and I was told to "get out" because I asked him why he was telling me different from the policy that was posted on the wall. There was no area designated for trying on wigs, no appropiate mirror, or chair to sit in while selecting...or at least I was not offered them! He barked orders at me and snatched money. ABSOLUTE MOST EMBARRASSING AND HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! I have been to this store maybe 5 times in the past 6 years and almost always walked out with a service or an item. Everytime I have been there was a bad experience but my most recent has topped all combined! There are the usual two people running the store, my guess would be the owners, one middle aged asian woman and a later age asian man. I had my two year old daughter with me and very politely asked the woman when she may have a product in stock and she snapped at me very horribly and told me to "GET OUT AND NEVER COME BACK BECAUSE YOU NEVER BUY ANYTHING, I KNOW YOU AND YOU ONLY ASK QUESTIONS AND BOTHER". I was mortified beyond belief and so embarrassed because there were several people watching! bystanders told me to not get upset but I left in tears and the man snapped at me on my way out and reminded me very aggressivly to not ever come back. You would have thought i was shop lifting! Even if you wanted to shop lift it would be impossible because they follow you like hawks!
