However, I was in serious need of a haircut so I decided to give a salon another try. I called to make an appointment yesterday & she was able to take me in that same morning! Easy & fast, already a plus. The salon is a little hidden (next to the new hardware store on Foothill - back lot) but she made sure to give me clear instructions on how to find her which is another plus for me. I was in desperate need of a cut & color and started searching for places on Yelp. I reside in the Shadow Hills area and knew that Burbank salons were out of the question, considering it was a weekend and given the short notice. I decided to give this place a shot. Maria was able to schedule me in that same day and bumped my time up due to an earlier cancellation. Here are few things you should know before you arrive: 1. Don't try "mapping" or "routing" this place. It's a bit hidden. It's next to Caruso's Pizza (13737 Foothill Blvd, Sylmar, CA 91342). Once you pass Caruso's, it's the first alley entrance to your right. Continue through the driveway and you'll see a two-story building. The studio is the first lower unit on the left. 2. Maria works by appointment only and focuses on one client at a time. Her attention is 100% focused on you, which means there are no other stylists or clients breathing down her neck while you get serviced. 3. Her consulting method is honest and straight-forward. She will do as you please but always give her professional advice for consideration. 4. She mixes her hair dyes in front of her client (no back-room/behind closed doors mixing) and uses QUALITY products such as Pravana hair dyes. 5. Maria has years of experience under her belt. I am so pleased by this place! I needed a haircut and required a last minute appointment - I was able to book an appointment with Benji. I am so happy that I did. Benji cut my hair better than anyone else has. I had in mind what I wanted, I described it, and he got it just right. My hair is curly and if it is not cut correctly, it doesn't curl right. Most people who have cut it in the past have cut it wrong and it looked like an 80's shag. Benji got it just right and I got so many complements. And the cost was so reasonable. Out of ALL of the salons I've tried, Maria is my favorite hairstylist hands down. I can not say enough good things about her. She is so sweet and considerate, patient, and understanding to what I like. When I'm getting my hair done, it is very important to me that I am comfortable. I am a new customer to Lisa and have gone to her twice. Throughout all of 2015 I had played with my hair and changed colors frequently. From grey, purple ,blue, to silver and with that I damaged my hair alot. I am going to her for hair repair so for the next year or 2 I will going to her for hair repair. And I have to say she is amazing! Her salon is hidden and she only takes one customer at a time ensuring that she gives them her sole attention. I did read Obey R.'s review and I think she must have confused Lisa for the beauty salon that is in the front, because she always has her door locked unless she is expecting a client. So my daughter who is 13 decides she wants a haircut during the day (on a Sunday). I didn't want to take her to just any hair salon but after driving around awhile we found the Beauty Studio. We fell in love with the place! It's so inviting, clean and feminine. We had no appointment but we were in luck, since there was a cancellation she was able to get her haircut. I needed to get my haircut, it was New Years Eve and I wanted to start a new year off right, so I looked up places in Sylmar and this salon came up, I called but got a message, so I hung up. The owner, Maria called me right back even though I didn't leave a message and said that she could see me in an hour. She completely took her time and explained everything to me what she was going to do and she listened to me when I said I wanted volume but didn't want to loose my length, I have been trying to grow out my hair for over a year and she did EXACTLY what I wanted. She had some great tips on how to get my hair to grow. I wanted to get highlights in my hair but she said that because my hair is so dark, we have to take time to get to the lighter highlights, so we colored my hair a lighter brown instead of the dark brown that it was. I liked that she didn't just jump in and do it and ruin my hair. I will definitely go back to Maria and Beauty Studio and I will recommend her too. read more

I needed a haircut...bad! It was New Years Eve and I wanted to start the new year off right. Got out of work early, so it was perfect timing. I looked up places in Sylmar and this salon came up, I called and was immediately greeted by Maria. She asked me what I needed and when and what time I wanted to come. I told her 12:30 and she said "see you then." She completely took her time and explained everything to me. She explained exactly what she was doing and why. She listened to me when I explained my concerns with my hair. I told her my hair falls out a lot. She advised that I do not use conditioner because it weighs the hair down and makes it fall. I told her I needed volume because my hair is so thin. She even gave me a free volumizing shampoo and a spray in detaingler (so I don't need conditioner)...did I say for FREE?! First of all Maria is amazing! She was so nice and welcoming as this was my first time at her salon. First of all this is NOT the salon on Foothill Blvd. I have been to that one and was charged $25.00 and the lady did not even wash my hair! Do not be mistaken! Drive all the way to the back and its located in the 2 story building off of the street. Maria listened to what I wanted and cut my hair without chopping it off. I have gotten so many compliments from people about my haricut. It completely falls into place without having to style it too much. The best thing is there is no other stylists and she books enough time that you get one on one attention. I am super picky as my hair is thick and wavy and I was reluctant to cut it because I did not want to get a "mom" layered look. She cut long layers with bangs and it honestly looks perfect. I have been to Maria twice to get my hair cut and both times she was able to fit me in within an hour of the time I called to make the appointment. You should call first to make your appointment. She needs to know you are coming. Her shop is small but very cute and well-appointed. It only has two hair-cutting stations because she wants to give each of her clients the utmost attention. There are very nice looking full length mirrors and stylish furniture in the space. The shop is clean. She starts off by washing and conditioning your hair before the cut. She discusses hair cut options with you and makes sure several times the style and length are approved by you before she starts cutting. Then she styles your hair with a blow-dryer so you can see the finished look. All of this is included in the one price. The process in my case was simple, and I was in and out of there in about 30 minutes. The price cannot be beat and was the same price both times I went. Extremely reasonable compared to other salons. She takes cash but just recently has been able to accept credit cards as well - with a reader through her cell phone. I think Maria is great and worth the trip to her salon if you live anywhere nearby. She's personable and a local, small business owner who needs continued clients to keep the doors open through the slow periods. Please consider supporting her the next time you need a hair cut and don't want the hassle of going to a crowded, expensive salon in a more 'hip' area of Los Angeles. i went to see maria last year. first of all she burned my hair and what should of been 2 hours turned into 5. she couldnt get the color right and i had to see someone else to fix it. she also said she was not going to be open any longer and she lied of course. i guess because she could not get the color right she didnt want to takke me anymore which was very unproffesional after she burned it the last time i was their. she even told me that the neighbor salons were putting negative remarks on yelp to take buisness away. she is full of lie watch out. and she ask for ur address to send you a birthday card??? weird . who does that. she never sent a thing. read more
