Beauty World has been great for me through the years but I will have to check my product going forward. Opened a package of braiding hair and pieces had been completely cut out and the hair placed back in the bag. I will be returning to the store soon because I'm interested in seeing how this will be handled since I was in the middle of getting my hair done when we made this discovery. The first bundle was fine and then this. This has never happened before so I suspect someone returned it this way after taking what they needed out. UPDATE. Returned to the store to show them the picture of the package. I appreciate their replacing my purchase. THAT is great service in my eyes as I've been shopping here for my braiding hair for over a decade. Manager agreed they will check returns more thoroughly going forward. Beauty World is so much fun. If you like to beauty products. I go to this location often and I always have a pretty great experience. It is often busy and hectic, but when you need help or if you have any questions... the staff will assist the best way that they can. They do not up sale or over sale. I like that because there is no pressure to buy this product over the next. So I always appreciate the time I have at this location, as it is always a pleasure to visit. It's supposed to be aisles upon aisles upon aisles of wigs, braiding hair, ethnic hair care products, costume jewelry, unheard of makeup brands and beauty tools, and Beauty World delivers exactly that + great customer service along with a loyalty program! Okay this place if nostalgic for me and reminds me of the beauty supply stores in Maryland. They aren't super chatty or cheery, they help you find what you need, and there is an area where you go to try the wigs on. The only thing missing is someone following you around the store... Lol although I caught him looking at me a couple times (side eye). I was able to purchase everything I came in to get: blow dryer softcap attachment, deep conditioning heat cap, xl reversable satin bonnet, hair clips, hair sheers, cuticle cutter, eyebrow razor, Aunt Jackie's products etc. This is why I'm giving them a 4 (more like a 3.5). They have a good selection but could use more natural product brands, crochet hair variety, and hair tools. I think given the size of the store they have a decent selection. They honestly don't have much competition in the area. In general this place will satisfy most of your needs. read more

I love Beauty world , I've been going to this beauty supply store for many years. The staff is great, and very helpful and inviting. I've learned that as most asian ran beauty supply stores tends to Hoover over African American customers, the staff at Beauty world don't display that behavior with their customers. Not only are they respectful towards their customers, they actually allow you to return unwanted purchases as long as you have your receipt in the form that you paid , not a store credit like most other competitors in the area. This a a huge bonus for me! They play fair! They don't have all of the products of the bigger stores However they have most of the basics and you will be ok with the selection. This is the closet hair store to me so I frequent here often. Thankfully, they now offer a frequent customer card. This is always my first stop when I am looking for weaves, braiding hair, wigs, shampoos/conditioners, or a satin pillow case. This is the neighborhood beauty supply store but I think I'll travel else where for my hair needs. I saw all the previous reviews and was pretty concerned about going into the store. I initially went in for crochet hair and asked the attendant and she was very helpful in pointing me to the right direction. As for the products in the store-- I was blown away. They have a huge selection of all types of weaves, cosmetic products, and hair supplies. I have not seen a line-up of that many natural hair brands side by side in a while since moving to Reston. I ended up getting my hair from somewhere else but was able to get my hair bonnet, edge gel, razors, oils, and dry shampoos for my next hairstyle. The ONLY thing you should be aware of is that you need to bring your own bags if you intend to buy in bulk because they charge 5 cents per plastic bag. Selling expired products. I wanted a spot closer than Sally Beauty but I regret it. I dodged a bullet. The packaging on one of the hair colors I bought today looked different than the ones I'm used to buying so I got curious and checked the batch codes for manufacture date. All but my toner were 5 years old! Unopened color has a 3 year shelf life! The toner was only 3 months old so they get 1 star for that. I'm sticking to authorized distributors from now on! Not sure what the fuss is about this place having bad service. They will help you if you ask and return policy is great (7 days for hair w receipt) so I was able to purchase several bundles and let my stylist decide. Everybody was very helpful and nice and even recognized my new hairstyle when I came back in to make another purchase. read more

Nothing fancy but since I often find myself in this area it is one of my go-to hair supply stores. They have a great mix of supplies for women with mixed or natural hair textures which is great! They carry my favorite coconut oil which is one of the reasons my hair has grown 12 inches so fast! That being said, they did have great prices and selection. This isn't your top quality hair store, but there are definitely some bargains and good prices. My mom has had a bad experience twice in a row now. She buys Remi hair and pays $150/packet. As soon as she washes it, it bunches up and matts at underneath at the back. So she went in to talk to staff after the 2nd time as they had recommended the hair as "very good high quality human hair" - and was told to buy better hair. Well - staff recommended at $150/packet with minimum two packets being bought each time ...not exactly a bargain deal and the expectation is that they might question the product and not the customer. Stay away !!!! The worst customer service !! Very bad quality products plus they are very rude!! I got a hair piece a pony tail it was a final sale. But when I was buying the hair I clearly said in English that I need size 12" I don't know how I ended up getting long size 16" I am 4.5 feet height girl with short hair 16" long pony tail obviously too long for me. I told this to a sales lady who was helping me with sizing. In addition to that somehow the sales lady poked me in to my left eye with the hair package corner when she was getting a hair piece. It was very painful I closed my eye right away because pain was very sharp. She was very rude and kind of hurry me up. My left eye was red inside right after and still suffering redness and pain which I shouldn't have ignored and let go at that time. I went to the shop in a next day for exchange I explained to them there should have been some mistake or accident that I ended up getting a size 16". I asked for exchange for the size 12" the manager guy kept explaining no return no exchange policy. I told him that I was aware about the return policy. But this was a mistake I don't know who's mistake but they should have cameras and look at it but just for $7.00 I didn't feel it's worth to go into that. However I do think that they should go forward and check that camera when The salesperson injured my left eye I am suffering internal eye pain I will not ignore my injury. read more

I've gone to this beauty supply store a hand full of times and have never had a bad experience. They offer a pretty neat discount membership (free) that's easy to get points towards dollars off your total. Yes, their prices are $1-$2 more than you'd pay if you were to visit a beauty supply closer to dc, but they practically have everything you need (regarding ethnic hair) so I can't complain at all. It def beats ordering online and having to pay shipping, and waiting days to receive the order. 2 Stars are for having natural hair care products. I don't like how aloof and borderline racist the staff seems to be. If they have a problem with people of color, they should sell something else. They act as if they are doing me a favor. The wigs are so cheaply made, I can smell them from the door. I witnessed a woman being told she looked good in a wig though it was objectively not true. I went there because I didn't want to drive out to sallies but I'll just make the drive next time--if I'm not good enough, neither is my money. read more

They are very nice people, helpful too. They seem to always have the supplies I need. Only wish they had more than one location. But this works. I have always had good shopping experiences at beauty world until last weekend. When dressed in my professional attire, I get the utmost respect at beauty world. Things shifted last weekend when dressed in casual clothes. Last weekend while at the counter making a purchase, a female employee (possibly an owner) came and pried 2 items from my 3 year old daughter's hand implying that we were stealing. While this store has a wide selection of products for colored people, it appears that they stereotype. I was having a major hair emergency. I was in the middle of wash day at my partner's house but I had just been informed we had a formal event to be at in 3 hours- not enough time to do my usual crochet style OR beat my hair into submission so I needed a wig. I liked the product selection, lots of natural hair products and specialty products at okay prices but I was there for a wig. I didn't want to buy a Human Hair wig ($199-499 and all REMY) so I looked at synthetic lace fronts. They were PRICEY. They were much more ($69-199) than I would have paid for at home back in NYC or online ($39-99). After a while, the female owner got pissed that I wasn't looking pleased at the pitiful selection (No Outre, lots of Manhattan Style and other brands I had never heard of before, lots of the same looks) and she snapped at my boyfriend "You can buy but you can't touch".
