I got a good deal with Beaver Brook Outiftters because I stayed at the Alpine Lodge. This was my first time white water rafting (I went in the summer). The water was a bit calm but there were a few parts that were crazy. I was in the back of the raft with our guide so that made me feel a bit safer (I'm adventurous but this definitely had my heart racing as a newbie). My fiancé and friends (they've gone white water rafting before) thought the water was too calm and mentioned coming back when the snow is melting and there are more white caps. Our guide was fun and was trying to get us to "surf" our raft next to a rock which was cool. He also jokingly led us into a rock and I flew forward (luckily he caught me before I went too far ha). When you do go, they provide all of the gear you need and more. Buses take you to and from the river. You will also have to help lift the raft to the water with your group (I ended up slipping and falling on the rocks going down to the river so that was "fun", there are snacks/lunch provided when there's a break in between rafting. Towards the end, it was so calm, we had to row for a good mile or two to get us back. When you get back, dinner is provided and it was delicious! I had a fun time and I do want to come back when the water is choppier. Summer was a good choice for a first timer. All in all, I loved this company and our guide (I want to say his name was Buzz). My boyfriend and I went tubing this past weekend and had a blast. We made a reservation the night before (I'm not sure if it's needed but they suggest it) and the check in process, after signing some waivers, was easy. Staff was super friendly and you could tell that they loved their job. Our ride down the river was truly a lazy one and sometimes we had to push ourselves along because the current was so slow but we never felt in danger. Definitely wear sunscreen and I would recommend bringing bug spray too. We got bit by black flies a few times and they hurt!! Also heads up, the tubing spot only has one portapotty, so plan accordingly. read more

Fourth time with them and they care just as much about giving guests an enjoyable experience as about fishing them out of the water when they fall in a dangerous section of the rapids. Went out rafting on the Hudson last week with these folks and our entire group (four adults and two 11-year-old girls) had a fantastic time. From my introductory call with Peter, who patiently and fully explained operations and pricing, to our river guide, Andrew, who kept us all safe and secure while also treating the kids to extra adventures, this was a first class experience. Water rafting here wasn't bad at all ,guide was really good and she knows her stuff..only problem and big problem here is that they are charging for full day rafting plus snacks and early and "hearty" dinner for 85$ which sounds good considering that dinner should be decent atleast ;which it wasn't (at all) ..snacks are just peanut butter or non nut butter sandwich in case you are allergic ..and trail mix where everyone whoever is on the raft is sharing from one ziploc bag which is gross but if you are seriously hungry after working out on the raft with the paddle you have no option but to eat whatever is available .. Now dinner ,I read a blog on there site which says that they have great meal and they do care about people's needs or restrictions if they mention which I did ..and this is what there menu was ,two dry vegetarian patties which they were calling veggie burger ( that was my hearty vegetarian option from there kitchen ,which tasted like nothing ,seriously bland)corn on the cob simply microwaved ,chicken ,salad leaves mixed with tomatoes and cucumbers and two salad dressing on the side ,cut water melons .. So this was the epic dinner which they are serving after a long day in the raft ,and charging 85 $ for all this crappy stuff .. Really disappointed,would never go again . read more

Second year making the trip and I couldn't be happier. Our guide Cole is intuitive, super professional, kind and funny! I could not express how well this business is managed. There are other rafting places nearby but honestly none of the instructors compare to the personalities that Beaverbrook has. The dinner provided is also satisfying and the snacks are great. Spent an afternoon tubing down the river and can't wait to go back. The staff was friendly and the rental process couldn't have been easier. The good humor we encountered really set the tone for the rest of the day. Can't get over how beautiful and relaxing the river was. There were a couple of shallow spots given the lack of rain prior to our trip, but it didn't take away from the experience. I'd recommend Beaver Brook's tubing to anyone looking for a laid back way to take in the woods. Tip: definitely wear some kind of water shoe and bring your own PFD/life jacket if you have one. And if you can manage your trash, a floating cooler might also make a nice addition. read more

Time of my life! Just got back from my first white water rafting adventure and I have no desire to seek out any other company, bc BBO killed it! I felt prepaid and jovial going into this and every person I encountered from the man that helped us park to Marnie on the bus ride to Kayla our tour guide was top notch. TOP. NOTCH. Like, these are good people. Kayla just blew my mind. She was super experienced and knowledgeable about the raft and her surroundings, but most of all, and most important, she was empathetic to any issues that occurred. You can't learn empathy - you are either are or you are not. I was just so dang pleased. I'm a vegetarian and sure, the meal was meh (I only had lunch, didn't stay for dinner, bc we had an adventure plan), but quite honestly, if you're a vegetarian, you know what you are in for and you plan accordingly. Plus, you're on the water in the middle of literal nature and like, what are you expecting? I ate a great breakfast before hand and ate great afterwards. I felt great! Also, to address anyone sneering at any price. There is so much to consider. You are a supporting a small business. You are supporting the land, the people, the food, the rafts, the oars, the life jackets, the helmets, the bus - everything. One person isn't just taking x amount of dollars and pocketing every penny. It's a great price for an unforgettable adventure! So worth it! read more

a handful of friends and i headed up to beaver brook outfitters for some white water rafting on a groupon offer last july. what a blast! the weather was beautiful, the conditions were perfect, and our guide was not only knowledgeable, but super fun. our crew was immediately pegged as being the type to want to get the "most" out of our trip, and we definitely did. cole directed us into every rapid throughout the course, hitting each one as hard as possible. other boats were bone dry and we were soaked from head to toe... all five in our party with smiles plastered across our faces. the trip from (near) gore mountain down the hudson was a perfect summer retreat from the sweltering city of albany. the discount offered us ~50% off the regular rate ($40 vs. their regular $95/weekend day). for that price we received an all-inclusive day of fun -- the rapids, all necessary safety equipment (though you can bring your own), a picnic lunch (somewhat sensitive to those with allergies), a lazy river ride, and a delicious, hot meal at the end. plus all the sunshine and fresh air we could consume. the ride itself took nearly the entire day (10AM 'til 4PM-ish). we went 17 miles in total: 3 miles on indian river, 14 on the hudson. from what i understood, there's a dam a ways up the river that they let out in the morning, and you ride the "bubble" the whole way down the river. depending on the time of year, the current can be easier or rougher. depending on your tour guide your trip could be shorter -- we delayed a bit "surfing" the last of the rapids and floating down the last part of the tour. and depending on the day, you'll not only share the river with several boats from BBO, but also parties from nearly a dozen other companies in the area. upon receipt of a groupon offer for a competitor, i emailed BBO. i received a response within an hour. i'll continue to keep an eye out for their specials, and would consider going even at the regular price. read more

We took our crazy family of five on a 5 hour trek down the hudson river. In early April. Link our guide made it one of the best days ever. He helped us get suited up in our wetsuits, drove the bus to the launch point, guided us down about 15 miles if the Hudson river, and drove us back. Link was an absolute wealth of knowledge about the river and knew exactly what he was doing. He feed us a light lunch and then joined us for a wonderful dinner back at the Inn on Gore mountain provided by Susan and her wonderfully cute daughter. If your ever up in the area and want to spend the day on the river then this is where you should go. read more

Went to this place after searching around online for a cheaper place to rent skis and buy lift tickets for Gore Mountain. It's on the way to Gore if you're staying at Lake George. We ended up paying substantially less than Gore prices for everything, and the equipment was in good shape. Ski rentals were $55 for 2 days versus $80 at Gore, and tickets were discounted as well. They also sell gloves, pants, thermals, and other things at really good prices too. Also, for the design or architecturally saavy, it's in a really cool location--it's inside a converted wooden church that still has stained glass windows at the apse. read more

My family and I went rafting with BBO on 8/20 and loved it. My so has autism so we were concerned that he would be ok with the trip. They were so accommodating. We were originally scheduled to be a part of a larger group. They asked if we would prefer to be in our own raft and i agreed. They worked very patiently with my son to get the required gear on. They included him in the process and treated him with kindness. Well he LOVED it and so did we. Marnie was our guide and her knowledge of the river was amazing. She knew where every rock was and how many strokes were needed to avoid them. She gave clear and concise directions, prepared us for what was coming up and pushed us harder when she had to. I enjoyed hearing her speak of her Dad (how he was also a guide and started her out) Her time in the Peace Corps..... It was a great day for all of us. Thank you so much Beaver Brook Outfitters we will definitely be back. Oh and for 35 dollars i would recommend you buy the pictures. James did a great job and really captured the mood on the river.
