Had a fantastic time at Revolution Rail with a group of other people from a conference being held in nearby Lake Placid. The ride on the rails from North Creek was beautiful. All of the staff was helpful and friendly...especially our bus driver and the 3 guys working on the rails and accompanying us during our ride. We learned the history of the area and how this rail trail came to be. The guide who gave us the history info was super personable and knew so much great history! Loved riding through the forest and seeing streams, small waterfalls and crossing the trestle bridge over the Hudson River was spectacular. It was nice that there were ponchos and umbrellas given to us for our ride and that the guides took our photos for us. It was a great excursion in a spectacular setting. I would highly recommend a rail bike ride at Revolution Rail in the Adirondacks! read more

One of the best outdoor experiences of my life. And definitely the favorite of all of our ADK activities. Before you get on the bus to bike, there are fun games like connect 4 and Jenga. There's also a museum. The biking of course is the best part So for those who are worried about the ability to do this : you can definitely do this. I haven't ridden a bike in 15 years. While it's not the same as a bike (balance wise), the 3 miles up is pretty arduous but doable. You rest at the turning point for about 20 minutes. Going back is way easier. View of Hudson at turning point is spectacular. We will 100% do this again. And we loved this so much we are looking at doing whatever rail biking we can do anywhere. Everyone is so nice. Really you won't regret it even if it rains. And maybe you'll find some garnet rocks. read more

We went here and did the south river run. It is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. It's definitely a workout, but you can cruise at your own pace, or you might have to go at the pace of the person in front of you if they don't know what they got into. Make sure you bring water, hat, sunglasses, bug spray, and snacks. Also, don't be a pig and throw your garbage on the trail, bring a bag for it and throw it out when you get back to the station. Each car has a basket that you can throw your bag or a small cooler in. Tip your guides by putting it in the bird house. read more

This was so much fun and such a great way to go leaf-peeping! My husband and I reserved a tandem cart in the morning for a tour going south. It was beautiful, even at the end of October (post-season). In the afternoon, we reserved a tandem to go north, which took us over a breathtakingly beautiful bridge over a river. Since we went in the last week of October, it was mighty chilly at times because the ride creates a bit of extra wind. I wore sneakers that don't have much insulation, and I would wear thicker socks that cover my ankles and warmer shoes next time. The carts take very little effort to pedal, so this is an easy activity for the entire family. See something you want to take a photo of? Totally fine! You can come to a full stop and take your time or have your partner pedal while you focus on photos. read more

For the North Creek trip, you meet next door to the Depot Museum in downtown North Creek and have a chance to buy a drink, look at their cute retail items (I was very tempted to buy one of their hilarious shirts!) and use the restroom. Then everyone is escorted onto a bus for a short ride to the rails. The guide on the bus and the bus driver himself regales you with instructions interlaced with humorous stories. At the rails, someone gives you a quick tutorial on what to do and you're off! The weather the day we went was absolutely perfect. You are in the trees/shade most of the time so it isn't too hot, but I did get a bit of a sunburn on my face so bring sunscreen. The bugs aren't bad when you're moving, but depending on the season, bug repellent might be worth it to bring for the mid-way stop. They have cute little baskets on the back of each rail to hold purses and bags, but they are crate style with large holes, so don't bring small things that could fall through. My parents are in their 80's so I brought along another friend who rows regularly and has strong legs as we likely did most of the pedaling. On the first half of the leg there is the slightest incline that your legs definitely feel after a while, but I think with four younger folks, we would have been fine. The good thing is that the second leg is all down hill so you can pretty much coast, so hang in there! :) The views are absolutely beautiful along the Hudson and it's fun to see all the white water rafting boats floating along. Your pedaling is slow enough and everyone is warned not to "tailgate" so you have plenty of time to take great pictures along the way and it really does feel as though you are having your own private experience because you cannot hear or see anyone ahead or behind you. Halfway through, you get a break at a beautiful shady spot by the river with picnic tables so you can have a snack or rest for about 15 minutes. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area. I could have sat and listened to him for quite a while, but they are very efficient and stick to a nice time schedule, so before I knew it, it was time to go back. On the return, they take everyone's phones and get nice pictures of your group crossing over the bridge on the Hudson, which I thought was a nice touch. My parents are in their 80's and they told me this was the highlight of their trip. They had never experienced anything like it in all their years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I will say the only thing that was a bit disappointing was the view. Going o er the bridge is a view I will never forget but that's about it. I wish they would clear a lot of the trees so you could see the water. I love the forest so for me riding through the forest was amazing but we did think we would have more to look at. Had an absolutely unique and one-of-kind activity and workout with my wife on the rail bike. I had seen photos and videos and so badly wanted to try it. If you are in superb shape and exercise a lot, particularly quads, then this is probably easy. But if you are in a tandem and one person is working less, it can feel like tough going. However, the views were spectacular and I cannot think of a better way to see the Hudson River (besides kayaking or canoeing). $90 for a two-hour trip was completely reasonable and we thought the staff were friendly and great too. read more

Hadley run What a fun biking trail! This is my 2nd one as the last was in Cape May. This is more scenic as you're 90 ft high and go over a bridge, looking at another bridge and streams going through it. 3 miles long trail with a stop in the middle, we hear some history about the this rail biking area. Super cool to try out. You're either in a double or quad bike, and the guides are very helpful. They ran rain or shine, and we brought ponchos just in case. read more

I found Rev Rail from an advertisement on Facebook. I thought it was such a unique activity that I had to do it! I took my two friends and fiancé up to North Creek for an adventure-filled weekend. We stayed at the Alpine Lodge which was a convenient location to Rev Rail and White Water Rafting. Upon arrival, we found ourselves in a train yard and easily found the Rev Rail building. The staff were super nice and friendly. While we waited for our bus to take us where we needed to go to start the fun, we played cornhole and giant Jenga. When we got to our bikes and started our journey, we realized how out of shape we all were haha. We sat in the four seater bike and really had to push our legs to get us up some hills. It was a great workout, no doubt! We had a break in between while they turned the bikes around to go back. There were picnic tables next to the beautiful river. I loved that it wasn't rushed. You take your time and enjoy the scenery. There was a ton of room in front and behind our bikes. Sometimes, we didn't see anyone with us. Tip: do NOT wear perfume or cologne. DO wear bug spray. The bugs will eat you alive out in the woods. Be prepared for a workout, too. Fall is the best time to go because it's nice and cool. I can't wait to do this again! read more

I had read about this on a website of activities in the Lake George area last year and checked into it for the July 4th week and it was all booked so this year a month before the holiday I checked our dates and they were available and we booked a four seater bike to ride the rails! We arrived well in advance to scope out the area and sign the waiver before loading on a school bus for the short ride up the road to where the rail bikes were located. We climbed on adjusted our seats, grabbed our belts, received our safety rules and set off for the most scenic ride along the Hudson River in North Creek, NY. The ride out takes about 45 minutes we then got off the bike and hiked a short distance to the river to relax at picnic tables and eat our snacks that we brought. We spent about 15 minutes there then walked back to our bike for the 45 minute bike ride back to the starting point and bus ride back to the North Creek Railroad Station. It was just a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the views were unbelievable as we crossed a trestle bridge. The staff were so very accommodating and took pictures with our phones and cameras. The trip runs rain or shine but we were just so lucky to have a great day. As you can see from my posts that I don't rate many 5 stars on yelp but I highly recommend this adventure for any one that can spin bike wheels. It wasn't a real strenuous ride and certainly able for most. read more

It's a really good family activity, especially with kids. The view is amazing. I wish there is more lake or river views while biking. The weather was so great, not hot and not cold. MUST spray bugs spray! There are a lot of bugs, especially in the resting spot. Staffs are all nice. We took a short ride in a school bus to the starting point and began to bike. Especially liked how they took pictures of us with our own cameras. Very nice touch! Would love to come back for another tour! I took off one star because of the bathroom situation. If a port-o-potty could be added at the break it would make such a difference. 2 hours with no bathroom hitting occasional bumps is not the most comfy. read more

We came on an early October morning (8:30AM) and it was cold! The leaves were changing colors and looked spectacular, but they book up fast so we took any openings they had and their cancellation policy doesn't allow for easy cancellations due to the weather. Thus, we were bundled up like everyone else... hats, scarves, multiple layers, etc. And, the faster you went the more of a cold breeze you got. Brrr! It was a bittersweet trip. I am a huge train buff and have ridden these tracks on the Upper Hudson River Railroad (2009) and the Saratoga & North Creek Railroad. I also build models of the D&H. I like this line, and it was sad that trains don't run on here anymore. But, this was better than nothing. The trip south was fun. We went along the river, and through the woods, past lots of trees and water and such. It smelled heavily of pine, which I enjoyed. The "end" place was a couple of picnic tables in the woods, and we were allowed to climb down a steep path to the river if we wanted. Being cold, and it looking dangerous, I passed. For the outbound trip, everyone spaced out and we could talk and enjoy ourselves without being too close to others. On the way back the first cart (last on the outbound trip) was super slow and we all got bunched up. Still, it was okay. The staff were friendly, though a bit too excited for that early in the morning. They took free pictures of everyone (which they supposedly will post for free online) and helped answer questions. I would like to come back, but only when it was warmer. For those who enjoy the great outdoors, and perhaps being cold, the fall is a perfect time to visit. Otherwise, try the spring or summer. read more

I heard Revolution Rails was going to be opening soon and I just loved the idea of this business! I now live in FL, but for most of my life I lived in Upstate NY. I used to love hiking and skiing in this region, so the rail trail was a nice way to experience it again in a more laid back manner. My friend from Albany went to ride this in Fall of 2017. She raved about this experience and I loved her photos from that time of the year. She recommended that I definitely do this next time I was home. This activity does get booked up, so I recommend making a reservation as far out as you can. I did mine 5-6 weeks in advance. At time of booking, I believe they allowed a cancellation and full refund up to 72 hours before your trip. I was home to visit in the early summer and took my mom along with me on this trip. She's in her mid 60s, but likes the recumbent bike at the gym, so I thought this would be an appropriate activity for her. I'm not the fittest person in the world, but I'm not a couch potato either. My idea of a good amount of exercise is walking a total 5-6 miles in a day. I NEVER bike ride, so I was a little nervous about using those muscles. On the day of the ride we got here about 30 minutes before it began. I would recommend wearing sneakers if you have them. You check in at the railroad station. They sell t-shirts and other souvenirs. There are also a couple of bathrooms here, plus WiFi. If you need a snack or bottle of water, there is a small market across the street from here. On the back of the bike, there is a basket that can fit two-three small backpacks. You will definitely want to bring some water or a snack along with you. The ride out was a touch strenuous at times for me since it was sometimes uphill, but nothing horrible. I don't think I could have brought my dad (who's in his early 70s) on this since he has bad knees. We took a break of about 15 mins near the water while the guides turned the bikes around. There is also a restroom/portapotty here. I thought the distance was just the right amount! The ride back was far less strenuous since it was more downhill. The incline is not anything crazy though, it's very minimal. The scenery was beautiful on the ride and it was very peaceful. If you are looking for another activity to do in this area, I'd suggest the Gore gondola on a sunny day. I was really surprised by how organized and well run this was. Great job! read more

EXCELLENT time! Happened to be in the Warrensburg/ Stony Creek area for the largest garage sale and found this gem. Make sure to make your reservations early in advance. EASY to pedal and takes just over 2 hours. It is a cardio workout and my legs were tired afterwards but the weather and the views made up for it. Would do it again during another season. read more

We tried the south river run, which was about 9miles, we took a break during half of it for quick snack, then circled back. There are no toilets during the 2hrs so make sure to use the main office before hand. I had a water bottle and a snack just in case. The 11am reservations were perfect! I recommend this for all outdoor fantastics! Social distancing rules are in effect & masks were also worn by everyone. On our most recent trip to the Lake George area, we decided on a few excursions a little bit away from the lake itself. One such jaunt was to Revolution Rail. We were traveling with a large party- six adults and 5 chillens. And they did an awesome job of keeping us together for our trip. The instructors/guides were fantastic and energetic. They explained what to do and how to get there and back safely. They spoke clearly and made everyone feel at ease. One in the front and one behind to make sure everyone completed the 8 -mile journey without incident. A 15 minute break at the half-way point to relax the legs and to perhaps take a trail down to the Hudson River while the crew turned the vehicles around and back we came. They scenery is great and the quietness of the "cars" made for a peaceful trip and even the kids enjoyed taking turns peddling us along the old railroad tracks. Once back at the station spend some time doing a little reading on the several plaques they have and spend some of your hard earned loot in the gift shop. As others have said, it is a little pricey for what the ride really is- a bicycle made for railroad tracks- but I'm a train fanatic and found it to be a worthwhile trip. Unless there were another route or an all-day trip with a break for lunch and swimming, not sure if I'd go again, but it definitely was fun. read more

I signed up for the South River Run, to bike with one other person. About ten minutes into the ride one of the pedals literally broke off of the bike, rendering my half of the bike totally useless. My partner had to do the entire bike ride for about an hour to the halfway point. I spoke to the guide, and she said she could fix it. After the break, the pedal was back on the bike and we set off. Yet AGAIN, the the screw and bolt on the pedal popped off and the pedal gradually slid off after about ten minutes. When we returned to the station I let another guide know, and his response was just "oh that stinks" 1 STAR because I paid $ for this and didn't get to actually do it because of the equipment that they couldn't fix. read more

Super fun adventure on the Upper Hudson trip on Saturday 5/20/23. The scenery was great. Loved seeing the River and the woods. Rafters were passing under the bridge on our way back. The peddle pace was moderate and the incline was not difficult at all. We were a group of 4, enjoying a spectacular girls outing. The black flies were out in force. Typical for May. Bring bug repellent. One in our party bought the Head Net to wear over her head as she was not a fan of bugs. Worth the drive!!! We headed to North Creek from lake george area and took a solid 35 minutes. They were fully booked and I'm so glad I went! It is very easy to bike even for someone who doesn't exercise. Perfect activity for families with the 4-person bikes. Whole thing is about 2 hours but the actual biking is only about 40 minutes. They start off with instructions and then assigning bikes. Once you are off, you enjoy the nice scenery and at some point you stop and get off, so they can turn the bikes around and you go back the way you came from. They do some history lesson half way through and offer to take pictures at a nice spot on the way back. Remember to make reservations early!! read more

When my friend told me that he wanted to spend his birthday weekend this year in the Adirondacks, I was even more excited than usual (I just love celebrating other people's birthdays) because that meant that I could FINALLY do this Revolution Rail thing that I had been seeing alllll over Facebook (serious S/O to their PR team for doing wherk). This Revolution Rail thing is railbiking AKA pedaling tandem or quad bikes on railroad tracks and it was so. much. fun. And really just so different from anything we've done before, which probably added to why we liked it so much. We opted for 3 of the tandem bikes for our group of 6 at the 4:30 PM time slot and after a short bus ride from the check-in spot, we arrived at the bike launch point. The entire course is 6 miles round trip, with a slight uphill grade on the way up that I definitely felt in my thighs lulz. The entire trek took a little under 2 hours to complete and included a 15-20 minute rest stop at the turn-around point where you can stretch your legs and eat alllll the snacks you packed, as well as a photo spot on a trestle bridge where one of the guides will help snap a picture for you on your phone or camera. My friends and I had an absolute blast railbiking our way through the Adirondack forest canopies along the Hudson River banks. If you're ever in the area, DEF check out Revolution Rail because I gotta say, it really was just as fun as all those Facebook videos made it out to seem! read more
