I thought this was a lovely campground…read more The grounds and restrooms/showers were immaculate. Everything was incredibly well maintained. The sites offer decent privacy. They're not on top of each other, although you can see your neighbors. The staff was wonderful--incredibly friendly. They sell wood if you need wood (for a fair price, too), and they have books to borrow in the check-in cabin if you want a book to read (and movies if you have an RV, or a device that plays movies). There are some decent features to the grounds, also. They have a playground on the campsite, as well as basketball hoops. Right outside the campsite is Thompson lake, where you can fish, boat, and kayak. They have a pretty big disc golf course, which we enjoyed, and some hiking trails. I would definitely come back to this campsite. I'm a big fan of Recreation.gov, and this was one of the better ones I've been to.

We stayed here when the tornado occurred on 8/18/21 and we were fine. The tent kept us nice and dry and it was beautiful and sunny after the storm. If you like hiking, there are some descent trails around the lake and the airline trail is also nearby. Putnam is also a cute little town that is worth a visit. Walmart and grocery stores are about 10 minutes away too. This years hosts and the hosts in 2019 were both incredibly friendly and helpful. They did a great job at keeping the place well maintained.

Welcome to Douglas Forest "Resort" - Where the Dreams Are Piped In Through Faulty Wiring…read more Let me save you a trip and a fuse box: this place is a resort in the same way a gas station sushi joint is a Michelin restaurant. The only thing going for it is the location--it's beautiful. But once you pull in, reality hits harder than a tripped breaker on a 98-degree day. Let's start with the reviews. If you're wondering how this place has so many 5-star ratings, look a little closer. Many of them seem to come from folks involved with the park. Meanwhile, the previous owners--who were legally ordered to step away--are still lurking in the shadows, running daily operations and helping steer this ship straight back into the rocks. Now for the electrical system, or as I like to call it: RV Roulette. The power grid is a Frankenstein mess--unapproved upgrade plans, no visible progress, and pedestals that are more mouse motel than utility box. We found nests, droppings, and yes, actual live mice chilling next to open wiring. Some sites are daisy-chained with up to four RVs. It's like Burning Man, minus the vibe and with way more voltage risk. Several guests lost appliances or sustained damage to their rigs. Hope your surge protector's got good life insurance. Water? Recently turned on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it plays hard to get. The well pump has a flair for dramatic power failures, too. Wi-Fi? Not a chance. Unless you're close enough to mooch off an employee's personal hotspot, you're flying blind. Want to stream? Work remotely? Even open email? Bring your own bandwidth. The roads? Imagine the surface of the moon... but angrier. They're rocky, uneven, and unfinished. Some corners are blocked by decorative boulders that apparently double as RV traps. Walking your site route before driving it in isn't just smart--it's survival. Accessibility is a full-blown joke. Most campsites are covered in loose stone--completely unusable for anyone with mobility challenges. The one "ADA-compliant" ramp has a lip like a curb. The lone ADA bathroom is at the front of the park, far from most sites. The men's restroom? Still under construction despite promises to have it ready last month. The women's room? Recently reopened without stall dividers. Charming. The pool is saltwater and shallow (4 feet max), with a heater that's just for show. Kids run wild on four-wheelers, often unsupervised, cutting through campsites and treating quiet hours like a suggestion. Staff shrugs. Rules? What rules? Oh, and let's not skip the homeless encampments. I've got zero issue with people trying to live quietly--but if you're going to slap "Resort" on the sign, maybe start by making it feel like something more than a forgotten lot with plumbing. Bottom line: Douglas Forest RV Resort is a bait-and-switch. Great location, sure--but everything else is half-baked, mismanaged, or downright unsafe. If you value your time, your rig, your safety, or your sanity, I'd look elsewhere. Unless of course, you enjoy playing "Guess That Smell" while dodging feral children on ATVs. In that case--book early!

We went for a little Fall getaway with my husband and kid it was really pleasant . Most weekends they have activities we landed on BBQ cookout and music it was really good. I can't express enough how happy I was with my husband's choice for a mini vacation. Will start by saying we typically stay at camping resorts vs. campgrounds. There wasn't many…read morereviews on the camping section of Indian ranch when we were looking so I thought writing one would be beneficial to others. We have a 40ft fifth wheel for reference. I wasn't able to make reservations online but after calling I was able to get a site for two nights to take my daughters to a show. There wasn't much info online about the campground, what it offers, and the rules and what not so we went into this pretty blind. I did ask on phone if it was full hookups, as that is important to us and they said all sites are full hookups up which is great! There is no "check in" time which was nice to not have to aim for a certain time but I did call and check and let them know an estimated arrival time. Upon arrival, they had a staff member on a golf cart waiting outside office and brought us to our site. He was very nice, friendly, and answered any questions I had while my husband was parking the camper. The sites are tight!!! That being said we have a large camper with slides on both sides. Thankfully no campers were on either side of us so it didn't take him long to get into the spot. Our site specifically was mixed with rocks and grass, was fine just slim. We did have some shade on the afternoon from the trees to the back of camper. There's a gas station with a subway and honey dew walking distance away which was nice to get a coffee at in the morning and grab anything I forgot to pack. This campground is mostly seasonal, I think the man said they had maybe 13? On rotation for weekenders. The campers that are there are very friendly, mostly older without kids but very nice and didn't seem to mind ours. Some campers seemed a little run down, but to each their own, there was a good mix. Seemed pretty quiet at night time and wasn't anyone overly loud. The next day we went to a show, it was really hot, like 90 degrees. They had a "cooling station" I didn't check it out but they did mention it. The pavilion is also right on the lake and a few kids went in the water cause it was really how in the sun. We did general admission as we've never been before and it's like bleachers on the sides and first come first serve. There's also an area in the way back that has picnic tables. The staff were nice down there as well. The slushy machines weren't freezing cause it was too hot, but that's 100% reasonable. Other than that we just got water. We tried the restaurant one night, it was ok. The bar was busy as they were having a boat cruise that night. The restaurant section was like 50% full. The chicken tenders were really good, burgers looked good and my kids like them. The view was pretty even with indoor seating. We made reservations and were sat promptly. Our server however was ehhh. Took about 10+ minutes to greet us and take order. After that food came out in reasonable time and was good. We maybe saw server once about checking on us but maybe she herself was busy? Check came out around $90 for two adults and three kids with no alcohol. Reasonable and fine, most staff were friendly, ours just seemed annoyed by us. We didn't check out the pool at all as we only stayed for a few days. The kids took a dip in the lake after the show when everyone left. We were the only ones down there. A family member who has friends seasonal there told me after the fact that we were supposed to use the beach? Unsure on this is it's true or not but staff saw us down there and didn't say anything to us and left us alone. There were picnic tables down there with umbrellas which were nice and at this time of the day there was a little breeze. Will attach photos of our site and the gas station across from us a few sites away. Some may not like that but we did. Overall I wouldn't book here for a weekend away but we would def book if we were going to another show at the venue. Never went to the bathrooms but the bathroom in restaurant was clean and nice.

It did rain today with some lightning they stopped the show and told everyone they had to go to their cars, it was a bit confusing. After about 45 mins the show went on!! There is alcohol to purchase and typical fried food and snacks. There is also a restaurant on site that looked pretty good if you want to sit down and eat. I would definitely watch more shows here in the future

I can't believe I am the first to review this camp. WHAT? Apparently, the staff, kids, donors, and volunteers at HITWG Camp haven't met yelp! There is no where else in the world besides HITWGC that I would I pay $370 to fly to from Los Angeles, take 7 to 10 days of vacation time to volunteer and work my tail off for kids who really need and deserve it. This place is amazing. This camp was the brain child of Paul Newman, Dr. Pearson, and several others to create a place where kids can experience safety, respect, and love. The organization works hard to raise money to support this 8 week-long sessions of camp free of charge for kids who have major medical issues such as cancer, HIV, Sickle Cell, Hemophilia, Diabetes, etc. and a 9th week-long session for these children's siblings or children who have had a sibling die. They have amazing medical teams of nurses headed by Dr. Space. They have 4-cabin counselors who sleep in the same cabin as campers split into age groups of kids aged 6/7years of age to 15 years of age. They have behavioral specialists, program counselors for areas such as outdoor adventure (survival and camping), horses, pool/aquatics (and scuba lessons), arts & crafts (including wood-shop, wood burning, signage, friendship bracelets, pottery, painting, cartooning, tie-dying, etc.), sports & rec (including archery, put-put golf, basketball, capture the flag competition, water-gun fights, etc.), creative zone (including sound recordings, music, theatre, stand-up comedy, game shows, etc.), and boating and fishing. Kids get a structured meal that is full of fun, dancing, signing, healthy food served by the counselors, plenty of rest and cabin chats and games, special outings, an awards night, a stage night, a dance party, and all the volunteers, staff, and kids laugh a whole lot while providing dreams come true to kids who would otherwise never be able to have a camp experience. It's the only camp where everyone including the Camp Executive Director and Assistance Director can be seen in the kitchen or driving a bus. If you are looking for an amazing place to send your child, a place to donate funds well spent on making kids' dreams come true, or a terrific summer job or volunteer experience with others of great spirit and heart, just say YES!!!!!
