But most important of all, the visitor center has a bathroom! The bathroom is free to use, but there are only a few stalls, and with the long line up, the small visitor center felt quite crowded. But the line moved quickly and the bathroom was clean. Do note that the visitor enter closes at 4:45pm so if you need to use the bathroom at 5pm, you're out of luck! They sell a nice souvenir selection, OK prices, I snagged a few, a lobster Christmas ornament for myself because... Great place to shop for souvenirs, you won't find many shops in town. The little gift shop was nice and varied from what was available at the Whaling Museum and the souvenir stores, and in particular has a nice selection of books. This is definitely the place you should start at if you're doing a tour of downtown, but if you're pressed for time, start with the Whaling museum (now really a general history center) and then come here if you have time left over.

I always say that I am going to do part of the Cliff Walk and then get sidetracked with visiting…read moreother places. This time doing a stretch of the Cliff Walk was a priority for me. I started visiting the 40 steps. There were a lot of people crowding the steps and taking photos. I enjoyed this part of the walk and would repeat again in the future if I came with friends. To get to the next session of the walk there is a detour that brings you by the next block and to the next entrance. I found the next section to be the smoothest walk and very scenic. After that, you see signs that there is some rugged terrain. You also get signs that you pass at your own risk and a reminder that you are passing through private properties. I highly suggest you wear proper footwear as there are some rocky sessions and uneven ways. If it is hot, you may want to bring water and wear sunscreen. Also check the map as there are sessions where it is clearly marked that the closest exit is some distance away. Still worth the walk as you get magnificent views and glimpses the back of some mansions/houses along the way. I exited at the Ledge Road exit.

My roommate and I booked a tour (for June 2025) online. Their system wasn't user friendly and my credit card was charged five times for the deposit. It was like paying for the entire trip. We ended up being on the waitlist anyway. That was in December. Now that it's February, I called to get an update and see if I could get a refund for at least four of my deposits. I spoke with Kariya who was very polite, professional, and patient. She sorted through the information and found out that my roommate and I are 4th on the waitlist. If I cancel now, I can get a full refund. If I stay on the waitlist, I would lose my deposit if I don't get go on the trip. I decided to cancel, but they can't refund me until my roommate contacts them with her decision: 1. stay on the waitlist, change her reservation to a single room, and lose her deposit if she doesn't get to go on the trip... 2. get a refund. We shall see the results...
