Nope. Awful? Nope. It's located in a rather nondescript strip center that is definitely a bit rundown. After hanging out in the highly renovated area of Wabash most of the night, I returned to my room at the Holiday Inn Select which is in the same parking lot as this Kroger and adjacent to the strip center. To be fair, as someone who was largely mobile by wheelchair during my stay the parking lot here was definitely a bit of a pit. Potholes were everywhere and I definitely had to watch where I was going. I'd asked the hotel staff when Kroger was going to open as I needed a few items for the road. Fortunately, they opened pretty early and I was able to go over before heading back out on the road. I'm not sure how old this Kroger is - however, it definitely looks and feels older. However, it has all the expected basics with accessible parking, automatic doors, curb cuts, and mostly workable aisles (somewhat more narrow than newer stores). To be fair, I was not able to find everything I needed. In most Kroger locations, I easily would. However, I somewhat expect this when visiting smaller towns. I arrived shortly after opening with only a couple cars in the parking lot and only a couple employees (it seemed). A couple more would arrive before I was done shopping. An employee was helpful with me as I could not find my Kroger card. She made sure to get me one so I could get available discounts. I appreciated that. I wouldn't say she was super friendly, however, at 7am I'm not particularly friendly either. This was a perfectly fine visit. This is an average Kroger that has most of the basics, however, if you're looking for a real supercenter experience it'll fall short. I didn't find everything I wanted, however, I was able to get most of what I needed and was able to get in and out quickly with solid service along the way. It's an easy walk, or in my case roll, from the hotel and while the entire strip center is a bit run down it didn't feel unsafe (though could use a tad better lighting).

I was hungry for something not greasy fast food, and was drawn to the idea of snagging a deli sandwich while here. I did not expect the sheer incredible variety of food goods available here. Every aisle we browsed was like an exclamation of pointing and going "ooh!" I wanted to buy SO MUCH absolutely delicious looking stuff (especially the fruit-topped cheesecakes, pastries, and cookies... drool), as well as the various ingredients and spices and sauces and pickled veg. They had a huge pop-it-yourself popcorn selection, for example. Tons of pasta shapes. Even milk of many flavors in reusable glass (if only the world could go back to that sustainable model!). The worst part is, I only got a couple things, fully intending to stop again on our way back to Minnesota. But we left for home Sunday, when it wasn't open. It was a foolish error on my part indeed, one which I will likely never live down (until we come back out this way, and you can bet your ass I'll drop at least a hundo in here, maybe two!). The sandwich, which I did get, was quite large and I ate half then, half later. It was cool and yummy, and I appreciated the many options of bread and meats to choose from. I also grabbed a fancy bottled soda. They have an indoor seating area so you can munch inside, or there's tons of outdoor seating as well, because they have lots of their pieces on display for you to custom order! I legit wanted to buy one of their loveseat swings (complete with a fold-out cupholder in the center). They had a lot of color options available, many quite vibrant! Besides many varieties of furniture (made of reclaimed plastics in tons of fun colors), they also sell whole-ass sheds and barns and stuff. Genuinely cool. I can't lie, I'm pretty tempted to somehow get one of their loveseat style porch swings (they even come with a fold-down cupholder). Fun decor on the inside like taxidermy, with a high ceiling and wall art. The bathroom is in the back (it was a bit difficult for me to locate at first) and was clean. All the employees were friendly and helpful. I'd probably shop here weekly if I lived nearby, so it's a real shame it's nearly nine hours away!

I probably do 90% of my shopping here. You put a quarter in your shopping cart to unlock it. Once you are finished with it you push it back in and get your quarter back. Make sure to bring your own bags or you can buy some of theirs. They have reusable ones you can purchase and use over and over again. They also always have boxes that you can put your groceries in, free of charge. Come check it out. You will save money and be glad that you did.

Returned to the store and was told that there would be no refund since it was bought on Thursday and not prepared til Saturday. Then she added that it was cut on Monday and should have been used sooner. She told me to take it with me since they didn't have a way to get rid of it. I told her it was HER problem and walked out. We believe to shop in our hometown and support small, independent businesses. This was a $15 lesson and a ruined family meal.

They post their sales flyer on their Facebook page each week. I came in wanting to purchase some steaks that were on sale. Based on how low the per pound price was, I wasn't expecting much. But the steaks were lean and looked really great. They have a large selection of Amish prepared foods. Lots of jellies, etc. I also was impressed with the large number of Walnut Creek spice blends they offered. I can't wait to try them. The store was very neat and well laid out. I was warmly greeted by every single employee. I will definitely be back soon.
