I did not really love this place. I found 3 edible items, and 2 out of the 3 were still not great. Baklava was soaked all the way through, soggy and missing that crispiness, and the cupcake did not really taste much like chocolate but it was ok. The red velvet cupcake was good and the cream cheese frosting was good. I did not like the apple bar, jelly donut, long John donut, brownie, or the apricot cookie. I threw most of what I bought away. Something is off with the dougnut dough. I did not like the apple bar frosting and the filling tastes like something canned from the store. The apricot filling on the cookie was very off tasting, not like apricot. They had cannoli but they were in a fridge case so I did not try them. They should always be fresh-filled. I was on a quest for something sweet. This is the place I landed at. I had a good feeling. My significant other and I walked inside. I browsed around to see what was offered. I wanted to find the perfect item. I went to the counter to order. I ordered a Vanilla Cupcake. It was Vanilla Cake Buttercream Iced for $3.29. The bag was close to me on the way home and the temptation got me. I pulled it out and took a bite. It was tasty. Before I knew it, it was gone. It went down fast. The service was rude and sloppy. I googled bakeries in Crown Point NY, found one that would make the cake I wanted for my Moms 88th birthday coming up at the end of May. They were very accommodating. Here's the bad part- they are in INDIANA, not NEW YORK! Once I realized my huge mistake, I called back to explain the situation, and they couldn't have been nicer about issuing me a refund. Had to go in for my paczki fix. Apricot, raspberry both had excellent flavor, custard was ask very good. Chocolate not so much very little filling and not so flavorful. Writing this review as I enjoy their pie! We decided to order a cake from Beck's Crown Bakery on a whim for my daughter's birthday. The lady on the phone was seriously so sweet and helpful which always speaks volumes to me. I have called other bakeries in the past that the people on the phone were rude and just sounded miserable. She wanted to make sure my daughter's cake was what we wanted in every way possible. When my husband picked it up he also grabbed a pie and some cookies. All I can is that everything was AMAZING! I called on Friday June 4 to order a tiered cake for my daughter's birthday (7 weeks away). I was told that date is fine, and to bring in an "inspiration photo". My husband dropped it off a week later and spoke with someone to confirm the date/time/colors/flavors etc. It is now 4 weeks before my daughters party and I get a call saying "we can't do a tiered cake that day. Excellent, excellent, excellent!! I met Nadine from Beck's at a tasting event at the Aberdeen Manor in March and after trying the cupcakes from all of the bakeries at the event, we chose Beck's. We came in October for a personal tasting to determine what flavors we'd do the cake in and that was a wonderful experience as well! Nadine had about 11 fillings/frostings and about 6 different flavors of cake for us to try in many combinations. In the end, we went with an almond and strawberry filling with white cake- would have never picked that without tasting it first, but it was phenomenal! Our wedding celebration was this past weekend and we could not have been happier with the cake!! It was exactly as we'd talked about in the consultation and it tasted so so good!! Most of our guests mentioned the cake as they were saying goodbye and leaving- it was that good!! We also had a smaller cake added for a special aunt who was celebrating a big birthday that night. We had hoped she would take the cake home with her to enjoy later, but we ended up cutting into it- it was so delicious and moist! She loved it and it was the perfect way to say "Happy Birthday". I love this bakery's cookies! I just called wanting to make an order for 200+ cookies for a retirement party. The party is in a week and a half. I was very disappointed to learn that this bakery has a strict policy that all orders must be placed 2 weeks in advance! I would think that a business would love to have this large of an order. And we would have definitely been a new, repeat customer. I would be more understanding with Angie turning down my business if the order was needed last minute or on a busy weekend or holiday. But I called 10 days prior (instead of the required 14), they are needed on a Wednesday in early December. Makes me sad that I will have to order from somewhere else. In the years following, I have continued to use Beck's for all special events, including birthdays, holidays and funeral dessert platters. Beck's did my October wedding. Everything went fine at first. Nadine was more than helpful and friendly. I was so excited to work with them. Then, I get a call from another worker a week before my wedding rudely telling me that I didn't sign an accident waiver form for the cupcake stand. I hadn't known that I had to sign it. I had been in for the cake tasting, where we had agreed that I would use it, and where I had made a first payment, as well as the second visit where I paid off the balance. I had even called twice to make sure everything was taken care of when I ordered more cupcakes and then another time to give them the reception's information. The accident waiver was never mentioned. The woman on the phone insinuated that this was my fault. She actually said those words. And said I hadn't brought money in the first time, and I needed to come back in. I work in customer service. NEVER do you blame the customer, especially when it was not my fault. Nadine then took over the call and explained to me what I needed to sign. I told her I was busy--naturally-it was the week of my wedding and Crown Point is 40 mins away. When I called back with my credit card number, Nadine wasn't there, and the rude worker was back. I asked her if they could email the form and I could sign it. She said they don't do email. It is 2014; everyone emails. She then handled the whole situation unprofessionally. Nadine had asked us to not touch the cupcake stand. Not to even clean it. If we did, and anything was missing, I would be charged $200. We got married on a Saturday, and we HAD to return it that next Monday. I understand the rush, but most couples go on their honeymoons right after. Thankfully my mother returned it for me. She said when she returned it, the worker gave her dirty looks. She said she questioned why she hadn't cleaned the cake stand, and my mother told her Nadine had told us not to. The worker then rolled her eyes at my mom. I have been checking my credit card statements since then, scared that I am going to be wrongfully charged. I have been to this bakery several times since moving to the area about a year ago, and I've never had a bad experience. In fact, my 2 year old often requests a trip to the bakery because he loves their cookies. They always have a great selection of items on display, and I've never purchased an item that wasn't fresh. They have a wide variety of coffee cakes, danishes, donuts, and specialty items like cupcakes. Their crusty Vienna bread always seems to sell out, which is understandable, because it's the perfect compliment to any meal. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. This is more a review of their management than their baking. Visited their shop three times over the last two weeks. Each time we discussed we were helping our child pre plan the wedding as they live out of the area. Each time we told the person why were there, told them the date, the possible venues and bought a dozen cupcakes to try. They said until they picked the reception hall they couldn't reserve the date or tell us whether its available. Why? No idea as the halls were all within 10 miles. Today they decided on the Radison and my wife went to the bakery and the lady behind the counter pulls out a book and says "sorry we are booked". I understand it is possible to get booked up but why couldn't they take the 2 seconds to look at the book to see if the date was open the first time we walked in. read more
