Today was my first time coming here. I had a coupon for a free cupcake. I really wanted to try either cherry chip or cotton candy, but I did not see those. I asked the girl what she recommended and she said the top shelf was the best sellers. I got the crème brûlée and pink champagne. The pink champagne was really delicious. It has like a raspberry buttercream and raspberry cake flavor. I did really like that one. The crème brûlée was also good. It was filled inside as well. My only complaint is be careful when you are eating the decorations (sprinkle balls) on top of the pink champagne cupcake. One of them actually cut my gums a little when I bit down. Odd location out of the way, but I was going to the pizza place in the same strip so we gave it a try. It's a small basic shop with 2 display cases of cupcakes. My husband went with the brownie which was coated in a thin layer of chocolate. It was quite rich but not too sweet which was nice. The 2 girls working the counter were courteous and pleasant. Prices were decent, maybe $6/ea. OG Chocolate Chocolate cupcake: chocolate cake with chocolate frosting cake was moist, frosting was fine, just too much of it Dark Chocolate Raspberry cupcake: the frosting was coated in chocolate and topped with a raspberry, a little light on the raspberry flavor but not bad My favorite was the Lemon cupcake, filled with a lemon curd it was sweet and tart and the perfect ending to a meal. While I won't necessarily go out of my way to go here, I'll stop in the next time I'm grabbing a pizza next door. read more

Went here yesterday with a friend, it's in an odd ball location in a strip mall off the main road. The cupcakes are displayed very nicely but my friend and I had brownies, one peanut butter and one salted caramel. They have removed all the tables and chairs so we had to eat them in our car. These brownies were not fresh, And at best they were just OK. There's no way this place could get enough foot traffic to sell that many desserts. If I'm paying five dollars for a cupcake I want it to be made that day and fresh. So overall really cute cupcakes with cute names, that are nicely displayed, but this place is a pass. The first time I ever heard of Designer Desserts was when they went viral for sticking up to a customer that was fat shamed in the store by another customer. I knew right then and there that this is the type of business that I want to support. I live in Chicago and decided to take the hour drive down to Schererville to give these desserts a try. For starters, the place itself was sparkling clean and the employees were disinfecting every ounce of the store. I truly appreciate them taking the virus seriously and keeping everyone safe. The decor is very inviting and cozy, I wish I would have visited before the corona life, otherwise I would have hung out inside the store while eating the delicious cupcakes. Speaking of cupcakes, they are mouthwatering delicious. There are so many options to choose from and I wish I could have tried them all, but for almost 5$ a cupcake, I had to stick to a few. I am huge foodie and I have a very picky taste when it comes to buttercream, but this store knocked it out of the park. It just melts in your mouth and pairs really well with the moist cupcakes. This shop is a feast for the eyes, as it is gorgeous! The treats are gorgeous - they have been carefully decorated! There is a multitude of options! You'll have an extremely hard time choosing between cupcake flavors. Plus they offer brownies and cookies the size of your hand! So far I've enjoyed the red velvet; it was moist, fluffy, not too sweet and definitely satisfying. The cupcakes are quite large and expensive. A half dozen cupcakes will set you back $25! I am a person that LOVESSSS cupcakes. I saw a bill board for this place a month ago and after going on yelp and their website to see what they have my boyfriend and I decided to go. So on 10/14/17 we went after dinner. It was about 7pm and they still had a nice selection of cupcakes to choose from. They are really good size cupcakes. My only issue is that I love cupcakes with filling and they don't have a huge selection of cupcakes with fillings. So we decide on four cupcakes.. I chose the "rolling in the dough" yellow cake with chocolate chips, buttercream icing, and a scoop of cookie dough on top. I really liked and wish they had took that scoop of cookie dough in the middle. Also the icing was just a lil sweet. My other choice was "Flying Monkey" was yellow cake with a banana custard, chocolate topping and banana chips on top. That was good mainly because I like that it had filling, lol. My boyfriend thought they were ok too. Overall good cupcakes just wish they had filling in all of them. My #1 place is still Molly cupcakes in Chicago.. but this place is a very close 2nd. read more

Today, June 29, 2017, great cupcakes officially arrived in Schererville Indiana! Designer Desserts has opened this second location (original is in Valparaiso) and completely sold out their supply tonight! I showed up just after 6pm and they had just received about 6 more trays of cupcakes to go along with the three trays they had left. Unbelievably lucky timing! The line was out the door! We tried Cotton Candy, Key Lime Pie, and Creme Brûlée -- we have Mocha Java and New Yorker Cheesecake (cherry cheesecake! Not advertised on website!) and these flavors were GREAT. Texture, density, flavor, all PERFECT. And, for following them on Instagram today, got 25% off my order! WOW! We will be eating a LOT of cupcakes in the near future as they have a huge variety of flavors! They also have cookies, cannoli, and take custom cake orders... awesome. UPDATE: I am taking off a star for two reasons: limited variety of cupcakes on Sunday, which I was told today by staff are leftovers at full price, even though they are from those that did not sell earlier in the week; also, for limited beverage options for customers dining in. I am very disappointed in their poor customer service. I wanted to order 6 Gluten free cupcakes for some gluten sensitive children at my son's birthday party, so that all the children can be included and enjoy, and the woman at the schererville location told me to hang up, and call their valpo location and ask them to deliver 6 to the schererville location for that date...okkkkk, strange but I call the Valpo location, and they tell me "sorry we don't deliver order there, because we cant be responsible if sometimg happens to them" What???? How do you get your other items there?! No worries though, I hung up, called another bakery in the area that was happy to take my order. Terrible customer service. Cupcakes, mediocre..my daughter and I went to the Schererville location this past Wednesday night&the two employees at the counter were less than inviting. Didn't say hello to greet us, barely made eye contact, did not engage in conversation when asking about the cupcakes...just extremely rude in general. When we left the store they didn't even say thank you or good bye. We would have stayed and shopped around and purchased more cupcakes, but we felt really awkward staying there. I feel like they are charging Chicago prices for cupcakes that are just not the same caliber as Sprinkles or Magnolia Bakery...and if they were, I would not mind paying a higher price. My friends and I love Designer Desserts!! We have been to both locations, but the Schererville location is closer and so much easier to access. The staff is always so friendly and helpful, and ready to give recommendations or descriptions for any of their amazing treats. We started coming here after COVID restrictions were in place, but the facility is pristine and frequently cleaned, with hand sanitizer available for both staff and customer. I LOVE their cookies, as I'm not a huge fan of frosting, but their cupcakes (and even the frosting) are incredible! So many delicious flavor combinations and always something new to try. My best friend wishes they would bring back the dark chocolate sea salt caramel cupcake, but other than that we have no complaints or recommendations for improvements. This place is so freaking good! I love the super cutesy design of the place. You can come in to sit and eat a cookie or two before the movies, after dinner, or while waiting on the kids to get put of practice. Their cakes aren't ations. They have some classic flavors and a few semi-adventurous ones. The cookies are the best things here in my opinion. The snickerdoodle and unicorn poop cookies are addictive. My hubby and I have been here every Friday for the past few weeks for cupcakes and cookies. Also, the staff here is super friendly and helpful. I was so happy to see a cupcake place arrive in Schererville! I have been to this place five or six times. Each time I was hoping to find a better result. The cupcakes are gorgeous with ample frosting. Lots of flavors make it a fun place to shop. Every time, though, the cupcakes are DRY and tasteless. Creme brulee, German chocolate, pink champagne, pineapple upside down, and Carmel apple. The cake itself was fine, but the super sugary frosting killed it for me. The high sugar content kills the flavor of the frosting. Less sugar, in my opinion would bring out the flavor instead of over powering it. I really think they have a great concept. I used to love designer deserts mostly for to customer service until the workings I'd be come close with had been fired for trying to take a moment to use her Brest pump as she's a new mother. You'd think it wouldn't be a problem because there's federal laws allowing mothers a scheduled time and place to pump. The fact that the owners don't have the common decency to allow her to pump (as the fair labor standards act rules) I don't see why this business deserves any of my business.
