New This Year Brunty Farms - chicken and eggs... they also have a booth at Howe Meadow Farmer's Market... and offer a discount of eggs if you bring the box back and re-use it. Trigo's Market Bakery - nice selection of round and rectangle loafs... with a rotating foccacia selection. They also have a stuffed foccacia (forgot the name of the style) and we tried the pear, walnut, blue cheese... outstanding! Beefallo - haven't tried them yet, but they offer ground, patties, steaks and other cuts of American Buffalo's that have been bread with cows? The booth has been packed so I haven't heard the pitch yet. Repeat Winners The Pierogi Lady - Serves some hot to eat there... the rest frozen... you can even order off of her Facebook page and pick them up at the market... so far this year we've loved the crab rangoon and the french onion... and this week picked up some chicken pot pie and yam with walnuts to try. Bluebird Meadow Farms - bratwurst, breakfast sausage, ribs, roasts and later in the season even duck Hattie's Cafe - great selection of jams and salsa Edgesmith - next week I'll start my yearly cycle of sending my chef's knives in for a pro sharpening... they do a great job with pruners too. 2 Amish farms come as well as 4 or 5 local offerings of specialty lettuce, herb and garlic growers. We don't go for the candle seller or the popcorn person... but at least once a season we buy from the honey people and the maple syrup lady. Lots to choose from... and everyone is really friendly... worth the drive to check out some of the local breakfast or lunch places... and a can't miss when the Taste of Hudson is happening!

This is a Hollywood movie come true!…read more The Sirna's were your typical urban-dwelling family with regular city-type jobs up until a few years ago when they decided to buy a plot of land and move out to the country to start farming. Today, they do a great job encouraging and supporting local farming initiatives while taking their hard-worked goods to weekend markets in Cleveland suburbs like Shaker Heights and South Russell. They also operate their own storefront on their land open during growing season which features their own goods as well as stuff from local farms and wineries (cheese, sausages, canned goods, wines, etc.) - again, supporting the local farmers and businesses. One story I always tell people is on one weekend I was desperate for some dill as I had a bunch of baby cuckes at home ready to be pickled. She ran out of the store and came back from the fields a few minutes later handing me this gigantic bouquet of dill weed for about $2. Now I only needed a few sprigs for the pickles but boy the house smelled great for a week! We participated in their CSA one year - a way of buying a share in the farmers' operation. For an up-front lump sum fee, your share nets you a weekly bag of whatever the crops yield that week. This goes on for several months while crops can be harvested. While you don't usually get a choice of what you'll receive (it's whatever is ripening that week!), every bag has an abundance of food. This is perfect for the family that has flexibility in preparing and eating a variety of vegetables from week to week. We received throughout the growing season (not in just one week) corn, potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, radishes, zucchini, butternut squash, yellow squash, kohlrabi, onions, and much more. On weeks which were light on crops, especially in the beginning, Sirna's substituted freshly-ground peanut butter and local honey. Sirna's also does a Fall festival open house with hay rides for the kids. Located along 44 about 2 miles south of 422, Sirna's is definitely worth your while to stop by here one of your summer/fall weekends and support your local farmers.

Toddlers are free and we used a coupon on their website for $2 off of the rest of our admissions. Right at the entry, there is a small concession stand and area to buy pumpkins. I would've loved some fall flavored pumpkin snacks, but it was more of a simple, casual selection. There are picnic tables placed throughout the grounds. I had some snacks for the littles, so it was nice to have a place to park the family. There is so much to do here! We ventured into the corn maze, let the kids play on the hay bales and slide down the slides. There is a petting zoo and they provide feed if you'd like to feed them as well. We ended the day with a hayride. It was great! Overall, the staff was friendly and the layout was well planned. I would certainly come back again with the family next year!
