This is day of my personal savings and checking accts. Being frozen by this bank. Apparently there's a question about sine activity on my accounts. I understand the urgency of the bank to investigate such matters to protect my money. However, why can't their investigation take place without inconveniencing me by locking me out of accessing my own money. I bet they'll accept my social security direct deposit coming in on the 3rd of July. Or maybe not. They don't provide any status although I have inquired both personally and by phone. We have been mostly happy with BECU (members for over 15 years) until very recently. They just changed their online bill paying website and process, and it is now awful - basically unusable. There is no longer a "pending payments" section at all. The "archived" billers section is located at the top of the page (can't be moved) and defaults to being "open" every time I log in. This latter issue is irritating (adds extra steps), but not being able to see all of my pending payments is a deal breaker. I am writing a letter to BECU detailing the problems, but if they don't fix the bill pay site, we'll have no choice but to change banks. My other complaint is that the phone app is fussy. It only works for check deposits about 2/3 of the time. Sometimes it won't let me log in at all. Sometimes trying again a few hours later works and I am able to make the deposit. Other times I have to take the check to a BECU atm at a branch to get the deposit to go through. (Just want to add that we haven't had any problems with the people working at the "branches." We go in person for one reason or another several times a year, and the staff have been polite and competent every time.) read more

When Unaccountability meets Incompetence. If there was a lower rank option then 1 star BECU would receive it. I purchased a vehicle and BECU was the lender the dealership provided. I was paying cash (proceeds from accident) but BECU wouldn't let me pay online, over the phone. I was told could simply write a check at any branch. Funny thing is they don't have tellers so wouldn't accept my check. I was required to open a savings account that I'd didn't want with BECU. I did and deposited it and paid loan in full. I also filed required paperwork that day to close the account. That was Sept 2022. I never received my title and they failed to close the account leaving it open and a liability. Found out they put a manual hold and never took it off till today 2/3/2023. Now I have to wait 6 further weeks for my title and they won't close the account. Won't do over phone OR online. I am to go into a branch again and fill out same paperwork. Should I be surprised that a company affiliated with a company that can't keep the 737 from crashing can't handle financial duties either. read more

Anytime I've needed anything from a live becu employee they have been extremely helpful here. Sometimes the wait can be long, but that's hardly their fault. When you do get in front of one of their staff they are always cheerful and so helpful. It's worth the wait. I've banked with becu for over 20 years and the always been happy with the service, I'll never change credit unions. They've caught my card being compromised without me having to do anything. They've offered me great rates on auto loans and overall been extremely easy to do business with. read more

I love BECU for all of my banking needs. Will never go back to the others. Reason for the 3-star review = I just recently did a HELOC with BECU. The process was fabulous, except for one thing - they sold my info to whomever they sell to, and in one month I have had about 40 pieces of junk mail and non-stop spam phone calls. What a nice thing to do to your loyal customer. I did not see an opt-out option anywhere on the application or paperwork. I called to complain, and apparently, you have to opt out of them selling your info deep in the abyss of their website, where you would never intuitively stumbled across it. read more

BE MINDFUL WHEN USING BECU FOR A CAR LOAN. I have banked with BECU since 2012 and I can say that I am a loyal customer until this incident happened. I have purchased a new 2023 Lexus NX350H SUV and planned with BECU to manage my car loan. To make a long story short, BECU only uses a vehicle's invoice NOT MSRP. So my car is about 55k for MSRP. The Invoice of my car is 43k. I literally found this out when the dealership called me and said that I owe at least 10k because the loan was wrong in the first place. So the Invoice to my understanding is the skeleton of the car WITHOUT ANY PACKAGES. So my car had the Luxury package which explains the 55k. And nowadays cars like Toyota and Honda are including packages into their cars like Premium, Premium plus, and Etc. Anyways, BECU said they will cover only the Kelly Blue Book value of my NEW VEHICLE and the invoice NOT THE MSRP. My brand spanking new car with only 10 miles needs a Kelly Blue Book value. Go. Figure. I literally had to drop almost 10k to pay taxes, fees, and almost the difference because BECU only does the car loan of a vehicle's INVOICE not MSRP. In my opinion that is CRIMINAL because a MSRP should be honored over an invoice because the MSRP is the recommended manufacturing price with ALL PACKAGES. The invoice is literally just the car without any packages. This seems pretty reportable if BECU fails to mention in their website and advertisements if you ask me. read more

Today I worked with Christian R. at the location on 6th Ave and it was the worst experience I've ever had at any BECU in the state. I have had an account with becu for about 30 years so my saying that, is significant. I repeatedly asked him not to do different things with my documents and he did it anyway, completely disregarding what I was saying as the consumer, when it's literally my money. He gave me inaccurate information about my accounts and encouraged me to use cash app or Zelle instead of the bank I was sitting in. He was incredibly incompetent and I actually ended up leaving to go to a different branch as the experience with him was both violating and total waste of time. Employees like him will make you consider taking your money to a different credit union, as I have today. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend this branch. read more

Negative stars. This review is for the Contact Center and chat. BECU has totally lost their member first mentality. They provide service like a bank now. It's really a shame. I've been with them for 20 Years and I've also worked there. Their leadership staff is rude, insensitive and poorly trained. Becu staff are wonderful. They truely try to be courteous and respectful. The institution on the other hand has obviously gotten too big. The bill pay system dropped too of my regular payments. Two out of five mind you i showed my history of years using the bill pay. The answer. Had to be user error. Lol really! They couldn't even admit the system a computer might have hiccupped. I recently got a car loan from BECU through the car dealership where I purchased my car and also became a member at that time. I had questions and concerns about my account since this was my first experience with BECU. I went into this branch on Saturday to get help with my new account and even though it was busy, Marcus took the time to make sure that all my concerns were addressed and that I understood both my car loan and my membership account. I am very pleased with the terms of my loan and the options available to me now as a BECU member, I found their customer service to be exceptional. read more

They will ensure more 20's are in the ATM but were unwilling or unable to talk about how there is no full service branch in the south sound which what what I am actually pissed about. I don't have a choice in bill size anymore do you know how worthless 100 dollar bills are? I'm sitting in the lobby after a five or six screen check-in process to withdraw $40 left over from a paid off loan I had here. That's after experiencing two different 15+ minute waits to talk to a person. The first was to get a payoff amount, the second to find out how to get access to the excess I paid. Oddly, it was the same person on both calls, two weeks apart. Might explain the always long wait times. If you've ever done business with a credit union, you will be sorely disappointed with BECU. They function like a bank, not a credit union. When you walk in to a lobby that has six chairs, an electronic check-in screen, two ATMs and two teller phones, run, don't walk, run to a real credit union. In all, I spent a couple hours moving this loan to my credit union and closing this account. They apparently do not have the ability to send you a check after answering every conceivable security question on the phone (after waiting 15 minutes to find this out. I had to go to the branch, show ID AND answer more security questions. read more

My family switched to BECU from bank of america about a year ago and has been very happy with them. Here's one reason: my 13 year old daughter made about $1.00 of interest in her b of a savings account over 3 years - literally, about 3 cents per month. She changed to BECU - and one year later she's earned almost $30 interest on the same amount of money. That's a testimonial. This branch specifically has about 3 people working on the floor and my wait for assistance has been short. When I've needed help with myriad things: a new card, a money order, etc...they are always nice and helpful. They usually hand me their card and tell me to e-mail them directly if I need further assistance. There are 3 machines here as well - so even though this is a "kiosk", you won't wait for a machine either. If you've been wondering whether to make the switch to BECU...I would highly recommend them! read more

I had to check in on a computer like I was at the DMV or (worst of all worsenesses, Comcast). That was disappointing. The lobby was crowded and there were not enough employees on duty. The computer told me my wait time would be 3 minutes. I waited 25 minutes and then left because I needed to get back to work. At that point, the computer screen in the lobby listed my wait time as 13 minutes. This was around 2:30 on a Tuesday. Not noon, not five. I should not have had so much trouble. When I called Customer Service, they encouraged me to use the mobile app, which I'm not confident is secure, and had no comment about how long the wait times at the branch were. I will be going to a Sound CU branch to see if I can get service there. More fully-staffed Tacoma branches are certainly needed. Not all BECU customers (customers, not members - I'll say member when I'm treated like one) live in Seattle. read more

Tucked away in the corner of a Safeway store and not much bigger than a broom closet, the staff at this credit union branch can help members with many services and/or issues-- or at least point you in the right direction. The one major drawback to this type of informal 'neighborhood financial center' setup is that if anyone else happens to be taking out a loan doing any other business that requires some time to complete, you could be in for a long wait (the maximum staff here is three, but it seems like there are usually only two working at a time). So far, however, every time I've been to this branch it's been a quick trip thanks to the helpful (and luckily unoccupied) staff. Regular 'banking' services, such as deposits and withdrawals, are available through the adjacent automated teller machines-- which the credit union employees can assist you with. read more

My husband and I have been with BECU for many years. We have multiple accounts, a credit card, an auto loan and a line of credit with them. I have never disputed a MC debit card charge before but recently made a purchase that I was very unhappy with, felt the product had been misrepresented by the business I purchased it from but they had a no returns/refunds policy. I researched and disputed the charge citing misrepresentation. BECU refunded my purchase. However, it was promptly reversed about 2 months later when the business simply produced a transaction receipt. I guess fraud doesn't count as a viable reason to dispute a charge - and although MC decided to not process a charge-back, BECU did nothing to assist. My understanding is they can choose to offer a credit back to their customers if they feel the refund is justified - even if MC doesn't. Boo BECU! read more

First of all, the customer service people are very nice. Unfortunately that's where the nice stuff ends. My card keeps getting frozen because of fraud alerts, this has happened 2 time in the last 2 months (which is ridiculous) to resolve these issues I've had to call them 5 times because it seems like the changed that the service reps claim to be making either don't happen or don't get saved. Additionally, some of them are not very knowledgeable about there own policies to the point where I feel more knowledgeable about their polices than they are. Lastly, their cards are not very durable, so they keep breaking which is very frustrating especially as ordering a new one can be very challenging. I'm going to stick with them for now but the main thing keeping me there is the difficulty in changing banks. read more

I don't understand why they don't get a new ATM machine. I have had it eat my checks twice, and recently I went in and it was under repair again. This is ridiculous. Every time you deposit checks you shouldn't have to worry about whether or not your checks will be eaten. The only reason I am here is to avoid the hassle of changing banks and for the free checking. But I guess you get what you pay for. The manager here is great and the tellers are hit and miss, but at the end of the day, the area is grossly undeserved (and I can only imagine that is why some of the tellers are sometimes grumpy). One or two more branches would help everyone a great deal. read more

When we sat down with Grace, she was very knowledgeable, helpful, and did everything she could to help my family member with fraud that she was dealing with.
