The fact I have to drive down to Tukwila to cash a check is ridiculous. I'm not sure why they even have people at their other locations sitting behind desks, because they can't do anything. In the past, I've tried to get a cashier's check (no, we can't do that), transfer funds, (another no-no) and of course, get cold hard cash when their ATM isn't working. They are unable to open the ATM and need someone "special" to take care of said ATM. Get a key! Get a key! As I will be driving down to Tukwila today for basic banking needs- cashing a check that their two ATMS in Ballard and Queen Anne won't take plus their ridiculous app (who designed that awful thing?!) AND also to change my pin AND order a new debit card since the whole chunk of plastic is fraying, I will be gritting my teeth. Bank elsewhere for convenience, real banking experience. Oh, and to add: if you use an ATM at one of their "partner" credit unions, you will be charged a fee for breaking down the money- say a $10 into quarters because BECU brokered their agreement that way. *Facepalm read more

I finally finished my refinance with BECU today... 4 months after they accepted my application. I formerly banked with Chase and thought I'd make the move to a local credit union because working with a local company had to make the refinance process a bit smoother. I clearly picked the wrong one and unfortunately locked myself into sticking with BECU as rates started going up. From the get go, BECU was disorganized and uncommunicative. Good luck ever getting your mortgage specialist on the phone. If you are lucky, you'll get a reply to your email at a frequency of about once a week. It's great feeling completely in the dark. The process took so long they had to have my employer verify my employment three times. I had to continually provide updated documentation and as soon as it seemed they had everything, another required step popped up delaying the closing another week. Executives at BECU should seriously consider giving their mortgage specialists a checklist. BECU's default service partners are another adventure. For your appraisal, you'll have the pleasure of working with the incompetent folks over at Wcci.biz. After appraising my property with comparables that were all over a mile away, even after I provided comparables that were closer, my property was appraised so poorly I was forced into coming up with an extra 15% down payment or having to pay private mortgage insurance. Their escrow partner, Ticor, was an improvement in that I actually spoke to someone on the phone a couple times and the escrow agent was helpful. BECU may be fine at residential banking but avoid their mortgage department at all costs. You get the big bank feel but without the actual expertise a big bank brings to the table. read more

I really wish Yelp would have a 0 star rating because this place would get it. We are absolutely having the WORST car loan experience. I can't wait for an opportunity to refinance to USAA. If I had known how horrible BECU was, we would have chosen our original option when we purchased our car. The customer service agent that called this morning, I was forced to hang up on. I'm a grown woman & I do not really appreciate the fact I have some customer service agent who wants to talk to me like I'm her 5 year old child. Don't think so. After hearing so many positive things about BECU, I was expecting a smooth process when going to open a new savings account and speak to someone about loans. Simple, right? Instead, we left BECU with more questions than answers and weren't able to see a loan officer, as we were promised during a prior telephone call. Michelle A, the employee that "helped" us, seemed nice enough, but couldn't give us a straight answer to save her life. We asked very basic questions that definitely have an answer, including: "How soon do we need to make our first deposit?", "If we open a savings account, do we get an ATM card?", "Is there a minimum balance we have to keep?", and "Is there a minimum activity to keep the account open?" She should have given answers like "3 days, or 1 transaction per month, or $50", but instead, she re-asked the question, or gave some squirly response like, "You just need to be an active member." Several times, she'd stare blankly at us and say, "No one has ever asked me that question." Really, Michelle? No one has ever asked you if there was a mandatory minimum balance??? I, 1. felt like an idiot and 2. I felt like I couldn't trust a thing she was telling us. Like I first said, we wanted to open a savings account. We made that very clear when speaking to the front counter people, and when talking to Michelle. Well, about 30 min into our meeting, she mentions our checking account that we were opening. Michelle had opened a checking AND savings account for us. Then, it took 30 more min to fix this and give us more vague answers. 1 hour to open a savings account. We then mentioned that we needed to speak to a home loan officer, as was promised to us on the phone. We'd left work early and driven 30 min to do this. Michelle tells us that the woman isn't in the office today and we could fill out some online request for her to call us. After Michelle's prior inability to answer questions, I wasn't convinced she knew what she was talking about. We left angry, with a savings account and possible checking account. We didn't get to talk to anyone about loans. If BECU hires people like this, or fails to train them properly, I'm not sure I want to continue doing business with them. read more

Their loan process is extremely difficult, high rated and frustrating. They are tough on rules yet, weak on consistency. I had many times at the end of nerves trying to deal with their attitude. After being a loyal customer for close to 20 years, it pains me to see what BECU has become. Last month, I attempted to open up a 501(c)3 account with them. The nearest branch to my location is almost 8 miles away, I called ahead to confirm the documents needed to open this type of account. I was told that all I needed was the article of declaration and the paperwork from IRS confirming our 501(c)3 status. Since I have opened this type of account on more than one occasion, I questioned the fact that minutes confirming me as the treasurer were not needed. She assured me that they were not. I'm a working single mother of two special-needs children that I homeschool. My life is a busy one, to say the least. This is why I called ahead. When I made the time to go in to open the account, I had the paperwork needed to open the account, according to BECU customer service. I arrived at the Bonney Lake neighborhood financial center and was helped by a very friendly lady who also knew nothing about opening 501(c)3 accounts. There I was told that I did need those minutes. I asked if I could go ahead with signing everything needed and then emailing those minutes to her as soon as the person responsible got those minutes to me. That way the account could be on hold until all verifying documents were in without me having to go back. Nothing doing. It turns out BECU bankers rotate from one location to another so since she didn't "work" at that branch she couldn't accommodate me. So I had to take time, again, to go in. Their lack of knowledge about a simple and common account was almost enough to make me want to switch to another credit union but I thought of all the great years I've had with them and I thought about how hard BECU had fought to open up their credit union to all of Washington State and I reconsidered. I figured it was a fluke. Last week made my mind up for me. My PayPal account is linked to my BECU checking account. At around 1am in the morning, an echeck was taken out of BECU by PayPal to the amount of around $14. Later that day, around 2pm, I put in almost $800. I noticed the echeck then and realized that the change I had made to my PayPal account to draw off of my visa on the very occasional times that this happens had been a one-time thing instead of a permanent thing. I saw the $25 NSF fee charged to me and I thought that would go away since I had ample funds to make up for the $14 within a 24-hour period of time. It did not go away. The moment I had 15 minutes to myself, several days later, I called BECU to ask them to remove the fee. They refused. I was ready to move my accounts right then and there but my friends said I should try writing to them first. So I sent a secure message to them listing my complaint. I realize that it was 100% my error but it was also an understandable error that was taken care of in a very short space of time. The message I received back was rife with grammatical errors which is inexcusable to the level of education that should be required for a person in banking. It clearly stated, "Not our fault. Not removing it." Whatever free time I have now over the next few months will be dedicated to closing all of my accounts with BECU. I was so excited a few months ago when I opened my daughters' accounts up with them. So excited to share my love of BECU and to start them off on their financial future with BECU. No more. read more

**AMMENDMENT*** After my original complaint here, I was contacted by a manager in loan department. She located our paperwork in underwriting, promised to resolve why it had sat for so long internally, finalized/approved it & sent it back to our loan officer for completion same day. Who emailed same day to let me know. They had us set up with underwriting (who was at our house the following day to sign papers) and got the loan funded in the time frame to keep our locked rate. My faith in BECU has been restored. It appears our loan payment is even a tiny bit cheaper than we originally thought it was going to be. Thank you BECU for caring enough to fix where things had gone awry. ****ORIGINAL POST****** I've been a BECU member since I was a child - and I've used them for everything from checking, savings, credit cards, auto loans and home loan. Unfortunately, trying to refinance my home loan (which is originally through them) has been nothing but a frustrating nightmare. Loan lock expires in 3 days (including weekend) and my loan is still "languishing" in underwriting for the last 29 days at least. Not to mention we started the entire refinance process NOVEMBER 20th. Out credit scores are fine, LTV is fine, appraisal came in above what we're asking for refi, our income is fine (and easily verifiable) we have NEVER made a late payment on the mortgage and we are LOWERING our payment (thus making us less risky!) yet it just sits and sits and sits. If it does magically come out of underwriting in 3 days we will have to mad scramble to try to sign papers to get it to fund in time. Our loan consultant is rather distant (only answer to my replies, no voluntary updates) did indicate, when I asked that because it was submitted so long ago and is sitting because of THEIR volume of work that they would "probably" honor our rate. Probably? Honor it or give me back the appraisal fee I paid and I'll take my refinance request to some other bank. Beginning to wish that I had NOT gone with BECU for refinance - a friend who tried to refi her house mentioned they went elsewhere because the costs for BECU were sky-high (which they are - twice as expensive in closing costs as elsewhere we looked). Hands down the worst service I have EVER received. Your loss management team is AWFUL. I have to put in 6+ calls to even get a call back (all over a week). And how do they return my call? Over an email.... I called her back and surprise surprise I got her voicemail and never got a call back from that. I literally think that your company's customer service is the worst I have ever delt with. Seriously, learn to freaking communicate!!! Didn't quite make it to the bank in time to cash your paycheck on Friday? Too bad, apparently BECU's unique way of doing business includes not having any tellers on the weekend, at any branch, anywhere. Just a bunch of people standing around offering to open an account for you. Unless you've got too much outstanding medical debt, in which case you can just take your paycheck and shove it until the following Monday. I really did want an account. Sorry I've been sick too many times in my life, BECU. Wells Fargo let me open an account, and has helped me rebuild my credit in the process. BECU helpfully gives you as much information on credit repair as a Google search and tells you to get the hell out until you've fixed it yourself. Really? Fairer treatment and better service at a bank than a credit union? Congratulations BECU, you've actually found a way to make credit unions look as bad as banks. Never mind the fact that, when they are open, there's generally no more than 5 or 6 active tellers at any time, providing service with a consistent 20-30 wait time, practically any day of the week. Don't let them trick you: their service on weekends is the equivalent of going to a car dealership and finding out that, no, there aren't any cars or salesman - just a bunch of people who look like car salesmen at a distance who want to sign you up for dealership services, whether you actually have a car or not. As a non-member who just wants his paycheck cashed at a convenient time, BECU is horrible. They might be great if you have a membership, but I wouldn't know. I was here on 10-31-14. Usually when I'm here I have a great experience. Tonight however, rude customer service was in the air. Particularly the customer service of BECU Credit Union Teller Beatrice. I only needed a cashiers check to pay my rent. However it was clear from the time that this employee Beatrice called me to come to her booth, she not only did so in a rude way, but it was clear from the beginning that she did not want to be bothered by any more customers. Not a typical of your average BECU employee. BECU was closing at 6 PM on this particular night and it was due to the fact that it was already after 6 PM and she was still serving people in line she was very rude. I've never had someone play such childish games. She had me repeat things that she should have known and seemed to lack basic knowledge that she should know as a teller. For example, the first thing that she do with asked me did I have a deposit slip? It was obvious when I walked up to her empty-handed that I had none. When I arrived there I stated to her that "here is my ID, please look up my account." And again she asked me for an account number. I had to state to her "the reason that I gave you my ID was because I needed you to look up my account number from the beginning, I'm not going to be able to fill out the deposit slip until you read me my account number." And then she asked me who is the check going to? And I told her. And so I give her time to type that in, and then I state "I also need you to notate my unit number."to which she rudely says "I'm not in that screen hold on!" How am I supposed to know that? I didn't state that, but is definitely how I felt. I can't get behind your computer and look. This lady look like she wanted to argue with me from the beginning. So I just told her please let us get this done so I can get out of here. I'm going to come back to speak to a manager about her rudeness. I have been trying to replace my husband's debit card for over a year due to fraudulent activities. Got a PIN number but no card. They changed our credit card number but no new card. I joined BECU a few months ago. Thus far, reaching a live customer service banking individual has become an absolute chore and a half! Calling more times than I can count parallels an absolute migraine headache with added double vertigo! I am an extremely busy online business owner, and time is of the essence! When calling for services I need assistance NOW. I recall an individual reminding me about the credit union's convenient local location, so I could just drive to the office if questions occurred. Upon calling, I heard, "We value your time . . . Your expected wait time will be at least 10 minutes." I disconnected the call. After about half an hour, I redialed and heard, "We value your time . . . Your expected wait time will be at least 15 minutes." Again, I disconnected the call. The above-referenced calling circumstance occurred more times than I can count! I thought calling on the weekend may serve better, but the telephone lines were CLOSED! Also, no direct number is available to the local office! At one point in time, I made a note to myself. It read: Tomorrow morning call to wait on hold while preparing for work. Moments later, I thought: I AM IN CONTROL OF MY TIME! Why interrupt my personal clothing, hair, and makeup time WAITING ON HOLD for a credit union that is NEVER AVAIILABLE to assist me? JOYFULLY, I TORE THE NOTE INTO A MILLION PIECES. WHILE SMILING, I TOSSED IT INTO THE RECYCLING BIN! For NUMEROUS SPECIFIC reasons, moving hard earned cash from my current banking institution to this credit union is likely will never occur. My current banking institution always answers their phones 24 x 7 EVERY SINGLE DAY AND NIGHT OF THE YEAR (INCLUDING CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S EVE)! Regardless of my current bank's ongoing $6.95 monthly maintenance fee, THAT is worth eliminating perspective absolute migraine headaches with added double vertigo! read more

Great if you only want a bank! If you want a home loan, DO NOT DO IT! If you are like me, you are not familiar with how the loan process works in this day. I last purchased a home in 2006 and guidelines have greatly changed since then. My loan started with Kathy, Mortgage Loan Specialist. She sent me a welcome email and a phone call, and after that it was nearly impossible to get a hold of her. My real estate agent finally got her to return HIS calls and emails, though mine would go unanswered for a week. She drew up all of my paperwork on a 3.875 interest rate, which I signed via internet. Then my loan was transferred to the loan processor, Shannon. Come to find out I was supposed to lock my loan, and no one had ever told me! Rates had risen to 4.25 at that time! Waited a few days to talk to a manager, was told there was nothing they could do about it, and accepted the daily rate of 4.0%. Again, communication was scarce, most was done through my real estate agent. I would go days without receiving an email asking for documentation, then suddenly they wanted everything right away! I was asked for several documents that I had already sent, I was asked for documentation for situations I had never been in because they mixed my file up with someone elses. To top it off, we were supposed to close the 31st and I was supposed to be out of my apartment on the 1st. But the paperwork had been delayed too long before it had gotten to underwriting so it is delayed. Who knows when or if I will even get the house now, underwriting is very detailed and strict. I cannot correspond with them directly, so I have to go through Shannon. The last email I had from her was at 3:11pm on a Friday stating that the underwriter would not accept the explanation letter I had sent them. I tried to reply, no response. She had gone home for the weekend without even communicating with me or my real estate agent about what I needed to gather! I am a single mother with 2 kids and just wanted a home for my children to grow up in. Instead, this has been the most stressful unpleasant experience I have ever had. I probably will not get my house and will be forced to sign another lease with my apartment because they will not pro rate my rent. Go for another lender if at all possible!!! read more

I love BECU. It has the same customer-focused service as WaMu without the risk-hungry Killinger to kill the institution. Top 5 reasons why it's 5 stars: 1. Online banking is easy and the interface is very user friendly. Better than BofA or Chase. 2. The ATMs have less surcharge fees than big banks. It accepts checks and cash deposits without envelopes, which is now imitated by big banks' ATMs. 3. Financial representatives are friendly and truly have your interest at heart, not like BofA where you're just one of the numbers to be nickle and dimed, unless you are a big accountholder. 4. Innovative. Have you heard of POP? Pay Other People, a service that allows you to pay individuals electronically. 5. The branch locations and ATMs are everywhere in the Northwest. And with a network of other credit unions, you have more access to ATMs. The Pacific Northwest has always been a credit union market and for good reasons. Don't be the last to know. read more

I've been with BECU for at least 10 years. I still use them even though I don't live in the state of WA, thanks to shared branching. but they've impressed me more than any other credit union. I think the thing that I like most about them is their website. It puts any other bank website and online bill payment system I've seen to shame. It works better than any other one I've used, and it's fairly intuitive. BECU also offers really high rates on the first $500 in your bank accounts. Their interest rates after the first 500 are OK, but not terribly impressive. I currently have another bank account for convenience and better rates, but I still like BECU a lot, and how easy their site makes it to pay bills and move money around. read more

Don't let the 'credit union' label fool you. They're no different than a traditional bank. There's nothing personal about doing finances with BECU. You would think someone who makes over 100k a year, can have bad moments like temporarily losing a job. Everything is a transaction, they have a system worked out that if you happen to fall on hard times or somehow made a mistake. They can systematically tag you in their system as a 'risk' and go after things like a credit score. Even if later on, you're able to catch up and do the right thing to get it paid off... It's an obligation to them, they'll send you a letter saying THEY HAVE TO DO IT TO YOU and YOUR CREDIT REPORT. They'll take your payments and say they can't and won't work with you. It's a one-way door. Even an establishment like BECU, knows it'll ultimately impact a BECU 'customer' negatively. Even if it's been paid off awhile back, they still won't work with you to put your credit report on a good financial footing even after fully recovering. They won't work with customers that are deemed problematic even after recovering from 'life events'. Long-time customer? Have loans with them? Accounts? It doesn't matter. They're no different than a casino who manages their risk. They'll happily provide service and also close accounts on a regular basis and in other ways, negatively impact members of the community for years to come. I mean, take a second to look at all the generic responses to their negative reviews? Credit unions and banks are all one of the same. To think otherwise is foolish and no, closing your account or reaching out to them via some ridiculous email labeled as 'social' won't resolve anything. Their final decision has already been made. It will still go through their unchanged internal process and bring you back to the beginning and ultimately say, "Sorry, we can't do anything". Please do not reach out via email, they'll know who you are and make life harder by logging the conversation to your account. Once they identify you, they'll most likely close your account or do whatever banks do to bad/risky/unfit customers. Quite frankly, it's a waste of time and it's only to give the illusion that they care. It's all good when things go well but when it doesn't, they'll happily make it challenging too. As if we all don't experience the ups and downs of 'life' but hey, we're just a faceless account to BECU. I'm only with a credit union because it's a lesser evil of the two. It's not like a remodel of a building, kiosk facelift and a new coat of paint will miraculously improve decade-old customer service and internal review processes for the betterment of the community. In my opinion, that would be a worthy investment than new expensive comfy lounge chairs or a more modern open-concept layout. It's also a horrible place to work for, look it up for yourself on Glassdoor reviews. Eventually, all of this is why their process negatively harms customer's experiences. It won't change anytime soon cause it would require a change in vision where people is first, not numbers and operational metrics. Member-centric approach to doing business. What a joke! I absolutely despise your definition of 'member-centric'. Oh by the way, your community efforts is just to get more customers and visibility. If you really cared about people's financials, you wouldn't hurt them further and advocate for their financial well-being. BECU would rather send off a tone-deaf letter than to pick up the phone and connect with your own customers. No, I won't reach out to you. You had your chance. Here's my quick and dirty review. If you're an old fashioned type of person who likes writing checks, walking into a bank to deposit paper checks and maybe occasionally likes to get fancy and use the phone to conduct your banking -- then this is the credit union for you. However, if you like the convenience of modern technology, including text banking (a function that has been around for many years at major banks) then I recommend going elsewhere. SMCU and Prevail seem to have already implemented this technology if you're wanting to stick to a credit union. I can't for the life of me understand why BECU is so resistant in adding this functionality. When I initially called and asked, they made up some story about security issues when asking for your social security number via text. I used to bank at a major bank and had the convenience of using texting to check my balances (among other things) and NEVER had to provide my social security number when texting for my balance. I've checked with people who bank with SMCU and Prevail, the same goes for them. So BECU is purposely misinforming their customers with their excuse for not implementing text banking. This along with the fact that I received BETTER customer service from the major bank that I left in order to join BECU, has left me very disappointed with their banking services. The only benefit to banking with BECU that I have found is some of their ATMs will dispense $100 dollar bills. A service that I never require. read more

BECU takes the confusion out of money and never forgets that it is yours ... not theirs. Big banks could learn a thing or two from them. Since switching from my "Mega" bank (not even going to give them the benefit of mentioning their name) to BECU life with money management has completely changed. I had all the bells and whistles with the other guys, fancy iPhone app, funny commercials and all the other attractive sounding stuff. Problem is when you look deeper you realize at some point none of that helps you manage your money. It was costing me more in fees, time, stress and poor customer service than all the glittery promises were worth. it's scary switching. I am not going to shade that fact but when I called to get assistance and transfer my auto payments, set up a checking and all of the technical details I had that beaten puppy persona from how poorly I was treated at my former bank. I actually got right to a person in one try when I called and she was so nice an understanding. She walked me through all of the steps and I literally had everything taken care of in less than 10 minutes. No joke. I barely had to do anything and everything I needed for my accounts were in my hands in about a week in the mail. They also have an iPhone app and while it doesn't do a dance for you it works! Did you know they even offer interest in your checking account without a minimum balance!? I could rave for a long time about how great it now feels to deal with my money but you should check it out for yourself. read more

One star is still giving them too much credit. BECU has lost all my respect. They are a nightmare to deal with when it comes purchasing a house. Through out the process they have had many flaws and lack of communication. I was told days after our set closing date that underwriting can not fund for that particular listing. After everything was already done such as inspection, appraisal. Not once did they sympathize or apologize. Instead they made up excuses on why it was never caught. They have their ups but a major downer is that this is the only branch that has tellers. So if you are actually wanting to withdraw cash and not use a debit card or atm card or any other form.....you literally have to be traveling over 20 miles just to get this resolved. Especially after getting a large check from a loved one, caused my bank account to be frozen until the check goes thru which can take up to 11 business days is what they said. Due to miscommunication between me and the other person alone, are you kidding me? Your willing to freeze my account without even asking online and even freeze the account but even if you find out that it was a mistake by all three party's including you your saying oh well? Oh well as in, just wait but you can't use a debit card or even atm card? Oh well as in there is good news but we only have tellers at one branch but that doesn't matter if they are close to you the fact is if you can somehow get to them they still exist. Oh well as in we froze your online access without even calling you to consult with you about the matter or the other party's involved but it will be available later on sit back, enjoy the stress and we don't care? On top of it I have asked many times not to be called by my first name out of respect and it's still a ongoing issue even though I have been told over and over again it's been noted in the account. Well if it's been noted in the account why is it so hard to see what I go by when I have asked many times out of respect yet the bank seems to have a issue doing so? read more

Time is up...I have been a member of BECU since I was 8 years old...almost 35 years now. I have gotten student loans, and car loans, and now have my personal and Business accounts through them. I have finally been broken. They have devolved into the very thing I loath about banks---- A giant corporate bureaucracy masquerading as a small community credit union. Calling in you will go through the automated touchtone options that take you in circles before you are finally put on hold for 20+ minutes. The worst part is their online services and interface are decades behind Chase. It is a nightmare trying to set up google or apple pay. You have to call in and go through the nightmare of waiting 30 minutes. You can't access or search for any activity greater than 6 months. I only have positive things to say about this bank. 1. It's a credit union, so your money comes from your community. They do a lot for local community. 2. No fees unlike other commercial banks. 3. Customer service/ notary services are excellent. 4. They don't outsource their calls!! It's easy to get a representative on the line. 5. They treat you like a person and not just a number. read more

I would give BECU a lower score if it was possible. BECU once was a small group of Boeing people helping new hires get the tools they needed by giving small loans. People helping people. Now it all about being bigger and taking more of you money. We started questioning all the fees and creative ways they were moving our money around in our accounts. Then the big issue hit us. They solicited me to take out a second loan on my home, but what they represented wasn't true and now I am stuck paying 12% because they misrepresented the loan. read more

I've been a member of BECU since I was 19. Without divulging too much information, it's been a LONG time. This is one of the 'original' locations which includes a full on Financial "center" with loan officers and bank tellers, etc. The one thing that was kind of annoying was that they only have TWO ATM's in the lobby. TWO. They do have a drive-up but I was needing to talk to a teller to get change as well. The lines tend to move fairly quickly as they are good about having as many teller windows open as possible and they are quick and friendly. I rarely ever 'need' to go see a real live teller or loan officer so it's not often that I come here. But it would be nice to see them add more ATM's since there was always a line of no less than 10 people in the hour I was there. read more

This review is for Boeing Employee's Credit Union in general. I made the grave error of financing a vehicle with these people through my local auto dealership. Not only did I get an unwanted checking account foisted off on me in the process, but BECU is completely incompetent when it comes to maintaining their computer data where auto insurance verification is concerned. I bought full coverage insurance on my vehicle as soon as I got the VIN and loan information at the dealership and gave my insurance company the information on the lien holder, BECU. A couple of months later, I started receiving letters from BECU to provide proof of insurance, which I did via two means: I called my insurance company and had them send notification to BECU and I used BECU's online service to provide policy information. The letters ceased until I changed insurance companies, and then the problem started again. This time, I called BECU and provided the information over the phone and they told me everything was copacetic. WRONG. I got another letter from them a week and a half later stating that I needed to provide proof of insurance. This time, I called and provided the information to their customer service agent, then spoke with the floor supervisor who conference called the people in their insurance department and verified the information I gave. Three weeks later I finally received a confirmation letter that the problem had been solved. Moral of the story? I will never do business with BECU again in any capacity. Ever. Nor will I recommend them to anyone. read more

I jumped ship at Wells Fargo in 2008, and haven't ever looked back. In my six years with BECU I haven't had a single problem - ever. Any time I have any sort of issue arise (someone forging a check in my name, me leaving my debit card at a girls house after a long night out and not really wanting to go back to get it, etc.), I just call, press 0, and i'm on the phone with someone. I had a conversation with one of the representatives once and it turns out he lived a block away from me. WHERE ELSE DO YOU GET THAT? Going overseas? Finding an ATM that works with our ancient american cards can be tricky, but pull out cash and only pay 1% of whatever that total is. Pulling out 500$ at an ATM in China? Pay 5 bucks extra. Good deal to me. Local people, local money, BECU is the way to go. Don't waste your time with a big bank. read more

Having seen all the bad reviews of BECU's Mortgage Services I was a little worried about going with them however; let's face it when I did my search for good Mortgage rates they were the cheapest and have zero loan fee's (not including the reasonable $450 property appraisal fee). So I when popped into a Local BECU branch on Broadway (Capitol Hill), I went all in and did the application there and then. Now I took the feedback I read on yelp to heart and it was good that I did. I made sure every document requested was scanned, labeled and uploaded to the BECU Portal. This way if there was ever anything requested or required from a document perspective they can go back and look at the list I had provided within their document repository. This completely removed the risk of them losing stuff or delays while they asked for the same document again and again. The mortgage process was slow to get going and some of that wasn't helped by me not using a realtor and only moving from the UK 2 years ago. But we got through the initial part and I think the most important thing to do is keep in contact with BECU and keep on their back. About 3 weeks in we got assigned a mortgage loan processor named Shannon Devos and once that happened it was very smooth sailing with great communication all the way through to the end. Please note when you upload documents to the BECU Portal it only automatically informs your Original Mortgage Consultant and not your mortgage processor (who is doing all the work), so it was critical to send an e-mail letting them know what documents were just uploaded. Anyway hopefully this helps someone and shows that while BECU does have a few things to improve in the mortgage application front, as long as you take the precautions mentioned above you should be more than safe. I've been with BECU since they only allowed family members and relatives of Boeing employees to join. Now the door is opened to everyone. I've had accounts with other banks for convenience of being able to cash a check or pull immediate cash, but BECU has grown so much it's not that big of a problem anymore so I closed my account with the "other bank". The customer service is great, their online services for accounts is user friendly and the best part is the lack of miscellaneous BS fees. read more

Location is hard to find if you have never been there before. ATM's available 24/7 large location and the staff is very knowledgeable. Very friendly and customer service is there main issue to them, so your in good hands. Pros: Private parking lot 24/7 ATM's inside the building Cons: Hard to find for a first timer Overall i still give this place 5 stars. Cant find any reason why they deserve less. We have been a member for many years. However, in the last quarter every time I go to a Chinese/Korean restaurant or grocery store my cards are placed on a security hold. Despite having transactions at other firms that are out of normal for several thousands of dollars, minor $15-20 transactions at these Asian affiliated stores trigger a security lock. They never call saying the card is getting locked and have always said, "I think its the card." Then they reach out to card holder security who tells me the transactions were flagged on their system but never say why. I am beyond offended by this and am actively trying to leave BECU read more

First let me say that you DO NOT have to be a Boeing employee to join. I adore BECU! I've been a member for 20 years - since I was a teeny-bopper with my first checking account from baby-sitting money. :-) Yep, I've tried those "other" banks (like when I moved away for college) but NOTHING beats BECU!!!!! Well, that's not totally true. I've gone through the mortgage process a few times and found BECU to be a bit of a pain even though I have good credit. However, I just got a home equity loan and it took about five minutes online and a five-minute follow-up phone call. No pay stubs, no tax returns, no nothing. My loan was approved and the signing scheduled in less than four hours. And the signing will be at a grocery store branch fifteen blocks from my house on a SATURDAY! Overall, BECU has the best rates, lowest fees and easily accessible customer service. I like the online access to accounts and LOVE the increased number of branch locations especially the Greenwood and Ballard Safeways and the ATM at Ballard Fred Meyer. THANK YOU!!!!! I do wish members had more access to free ATMs, but with being able to get cash back with one's debit card at the grocery store I think it's a fair trade-off for such great prices on banking. Faithful BECU members living in CA: Do not use them for home loans! I experienced a tragically comical cavalcade of incompetence when I tried to use BECU for a home loan in the Bay Area (after banking with BECU for a stress-free 10 years). I was almost at the final loan approval stage before a roadblock emerged that should have been seen at the onset of my loan application. Because of their incompetence, I lost the condo I was bidding on (a week and a half before closing, mind you). I will be closing my accounts with BECU and actively recommending my friends and loved ones living in WA, Seattle, and elsewhere to not use them for any financial dealings. Shame on your home loan department for jeopardizing my housing and for making mistakes at my expense! read more

DO NOT BANK HERE. First off, if you call them you are forced into an 800 number. You cant directly speak to a branch. Very unhelpful. Never reliable. Wont work with you under financial stress. All of their employees over the phone are robots and read from a script. They will hang up on you while you are on hold. I will let all of my colleagues, friends, family, social media followers, and even a random person at the dog park or grocery store (as well as their friends, family etc.) to never bank here. read more

I've been with BECU for almost six years. I'm very pleased with BECU. I've had terrible experience with previous banks, and BECU has been great. I'm not a Boeing Employee, but I thought I'd try banking at a credit union. One of the great things about BECU is...there's hardly any fees!! When I was with Banner Bank, they were absolutely fee-happy! Fees for when I withdrew a certain amount of cash, or made transfers from savings to checking. If I ever needed a Bank Check or Cashier's Check for any amount Banner Bank charged me $5 each time, and that's $1 at BECU. One of the coolest things about BECU is the VERY high interest rates they pay on checking or savings. Most people don't believe me when I tell them that BECU has no minimum balance requirements and pays a WHOPPING 6% on the first $500 in your checking or membership savings accounts. I switched my credit card to BECU and my interest rate dropped from 9.99% to 5.47%. I wish there were more branches and ATMS around, but it is possible to bank with other non-BECU credit unions. I'm glad I made the switch to BECU! read more
