We hired Cardigan to completely remodel our owner's bathroom. The thing I remember most about that first meeting was the personalized board they had up welcoming me and my spouse (Mr. and Mrs. D) - a really nice touch, albeit slightly incorrect as I was there with my husband, and when we went back to pick out selections they had updated it to be somewhat more accurate (The D. Family). Jim, the owner, was straightforward when we spoke with him and offered a competitive price compared to the other estimates we received. After we accepted the contract, Jim's sister and the company designer, Kim, was particularly patient with us as we spent upwards of two hours picking out the various components for the new bathroom, successfully finding solutions to mediate style disagreements between me and my husband. Overall, we were both very happy with our selections and excited for the new bathroom to be complete. The workers were excellent and displayed great professionalism during the remodel. The work began in early December, but was stalled a little bit due to the cabinet and vanity not arriving in time. The bathroom was functional, though not finished, before the desired Christmas date. It has been three weeks since the job completed and we have been satisfied so far with the bathroom. With the work, there were two (both immediately fixed) problems that stood out: First, the new toilet was installed slightly at an angle. We emailed Cardigan of the problem. When they came out the next time to continue working on the bathroom, the worker immediately saw the toilet was not level, apologized that he didn't catch it when he installed it, and made the toilet level to the floor. Second, when we started using the shower a week after installation, the shower was draining extremely slowly. Again, I emailed and called regarding this issue, and they fixed it that day despite Jim attending a funeral that morning. One of the workers came by that evening with a snake and fixed the problem. I was extremely impressed at their responsiveness. Overall, I am giving five stars due to the personalization, work quality, responsiveness, professionalism of the workers, and our happiness with the final result. When we finally move on to remodeling our kitchen in a few years, we will definitely be looking at Cardigan. The attached pictures include a picture of the shower before the bathroom was painted, and a picture of the other side of the bathroom after all of the work was completed.

Owner used every excuse from his son quoted it so it must be his sons fault, it was not his son that quoted. Then it must have been his cousin female that gave the wrong price. It was a simple match piece for the side of a vanity 4"by 22". Took no responsibility At all the entire discussion. I called twice after my son picked up the peice and paid, so I left a message which they didn't call back, then went up in person. Was given every excuse why it wasnt his fault. This is the owner, so you know he doesnt care about customers! Do yourself a favor go elsewhere!! Do not spend your hard earned money here. rating os 0 for taking advantage of customers. note to the owner that just responded- I would never asked for ANYTHING free (illogical)- just what I was was quoted for a simple 3 inchx 22 inch peice. I took time to visit your store to quote a price then go back and order, have my son pickup visit to finish the purchase. this exchange / unrealistic response that the customer is looking for free is UNTRUE, I asked for a reasonable pay for service that I quoted; in fact you claimed afterwards there is nothing less than $100 service minimum. Which again was not the quoted/ mentioned for I would have gone to lowes instead. But I wished to shop local businesses , which I now regret.

Quick Summary: Jim runs an exceptionally professional business, and I would gladly hire him again…read morefor any job to improve my household. He is an excellent communicator, and his workers were not only courteous but very skilled at their respective jobs. He was able to finish my basement in a timely manner with high-quality materials. I could not be happier with the work Brown's Custom Contracting did within my home. Detailed Summary of My Experience: I contacted Jim initially just to get an estimate for finishing my basement, which was in a state that needed major work because the walls were made of cinderblock and the floors were complete concrete; it was a space that was probably best used for storage and I would not call it "comfortably livable." Jim arrived quickly for an estimate and helped me explore the possibilities of the space, even going so far as to note what would be difficult or expensive to pull off. Within days he provided an estimate for the job, which I found out during the process was a major ordeal involving many phases and individuals, so I'm impressed he was able to produce a price so quickly (and in the end it was an accurate price). I signed Jim up for the job because of his straightforward and pleasant attitude. In the weeks and months that followed (this was a major job, I want to note), Jim gave me frequent updates about what workers I could expect to come by and when/how-long they would be there. Every person who came onto the property was skilled and good about communicating what they would be working on, especially when they had questions about the possibilities of the space. Jim also handled all of the work involving the permits and he worked with the county to ensure everything was up to code. He also alerted me any time there was a change in plans or if there was a possibility of delay. Given how involved this basement-finish job was, there were plenty of opportunities for major hurdles, but the project was still completed in a timely manner, and it was always clear to me what was going on, what would happen next, etc. The final product is everything I could've wanted. Jim made efficient use of the space to make as much of it "comfortably livable" as possible. Even the water heater and HVAC unit were relocated with no diminishment in functionality just for the sake of making the basement as good as it could possibly be. I'm very pleased with the additional space my family has been given, and there isn't a single rough edge in the room. Jim's guys are the best and I highly recommend his service to anyone looking to improve their homes. I have included pictures of the job before and after just so you can see the quality of work.

It took a while to…read morecoordinate a time to meet with Jim, but he was very professional right from the start and provided the most competitive pricing for the job. As a property manager myself, I appreciated his clean contracting process - he'll print out two copies so both you and he can sign, he'll document the down payment amount and check number (and sign), he'll get his insurance agent to provide you with a COI right after, and keep you updated regularly throughout the project and will document any change orders with updated payment schedules. Our deck project became complicated by obvious grading/drainage issues and sunken footers at the adjacent porch that the deck is flush to, which caused our project cost to increase significantly. Some would say that the change in scope is a pricing tactic, and maybe it is for some, but not Jim. He carefully explained and showed us the issues, then helped prioritize them so we knew what really needed to be addressed and what could wait. His sub was great - always on time, productive as hell, and maintained a tidy worksite. You could tell the sub really cared about their work and Jim made it a point to stop by to check in. The end result is a beautiful deck that we cannot wait to furnish and use. The experience with Jim was so great that we will call him when we're ready to bid out our master bath and kitchen reno. He's a good human.

I was handed a contract for approxamitly $2,500 dollars and I signed and paid my first deposit, kept trying to confirm they would meet my deadline and kept getting dodgy answers. I got a call back the next day saying that they had given me the wrong contract ammount, they needed me to sign a new contract for $4,400 as they made an error. Normally I would have fought this but they were able to get me my footers done the week before the 4th of July weekend and that was broken down to about $200 a footer, not a great price but I was willing to roll the dice and they were doing it quickly, I agreed to sign the contract only if they could confirm they would have it done by my date required which they did agree too. Now I should also mention that their "project manager" came out to view my site before an estimate was generated. I had plans, permit documents the works, I also used to be in commericial construction so am very used to the "game". Fast forward to Thursday Evening and their concrete guy shows up. He looks at my site and tells me he has to cancel the pour becuase he needs a pump truck. The concrete guy leaves and the owner of the company calls me to inform me that he needs a pump truck, I respond with okay well sounds like you need to get a pump truck, I am told that he will not complete the work if he is going to loose money on the job..... once again I have signed two different contracts because of mess ups and you are asking me to pay even more money becuase you forgot to include a neceassry piece of equipment in your price? Had I not needed this portion completed that Friday I would have fought the contract piece but unfortuantly I did not have the luxary of such a conversation. I unfortunatly did not read the reviews until after I had this experience. I gave 2 stars because the work did get completed but at close to $6,000 after the disaster of the missing pump truck. I hope this helps someomone not fall victim to this predatory game.

My complaint with Beltway Builders, Inc. follows: 1. DFriia…read more(contractor for Beltway) mispresented (to me) the extent of damage by insisting that State Farm would replace all siding on the 'entire' house. There was no need to replace all siding on the entire house. (See attached pictures of 2 locations of minor siding damage). 2. No physical repairs to the property were made for 5 months (from 9/05/24 to 1/27/25) due to a complete lack of and many delays in communication, miscommunications with State Farm, and incompetence with handling the claim. A second appraisal from State Farm was never successfully arranged and never scheduled with a definite date. The first State Farm estimate was an accurate description of the cost of damage repair at $562.09. 3. After 5 months from the start of this contract (9/05/24 to 1/27/25) when BBI/410-Adjuster could not give me a 'definite' date for the second State Farm appraisal, I repaired the minor damage to prevent further damage to my house for $380.00. 4. The actual repair costs for the siding damage to my house which totaled $380.00 proves DFriia (working as the contractor for Beltway Builders, Inc.) grossly exaggerated the damage estimate as $24,329.43 in an attempt to fraud the State Farm Insurance Company. 5. DFriia concocted an exaggerated estimate of damage meant to 'defraud' State Farm . 6. Beltway Builders, Inc. refused to refund my deposit of $2450.00 although no physical repairs were ever performed on my house due to excessive delays of 5 months from the incompetence and mishandling of the State Farm claim by Beltway Builders, Inc. Further, I had been told by DFriia I would be able to obtain my complete deposit refund if State Farm would not agree to the Beltway Builders Inc. appraisal. The State Farm damage appraisal of $562.09 never approached the grossly inflated damage estimate by BBI of $24,329.43. 7. BBI never refunded my deposit of $2450, stating I had cancelled a State Farm appraisal when there was never a definite date given for the (second) State Farm appraisal. Then DFrii told me I owed $4000 in expenses! For what??? 8. The Beltway Builders, Inc. damage appraisal was grossly exaggerated to a number 64x higher than the State Farm damage appraisal exhibiting not only the extreme excessiveness of that number but how completely exorbitant and irrational to the point of absurdity was their estimate...meant only to purposefully defraud the customer as well as the State Farm Insurance Company. Siding on one side of the house was peeling off only on the edge at a depth of 1 inch for a length of 5 ft . Siding on opposite side of the house was peeling only for one siding piece on the edge at a depth of 1 inch for a length of 6 in. No repairs were ever performed by Beltway because through their incompetence could not arrange a (second) appraisal from the insurance company FOR 5 MONTHS. State Farm had estimated the damage with an appraisal at $562.09. Additionally, Beltway gave me a grossly exaggerated 'estimate' of the damage of $24,329.43. Then the contractor told me he had incurred fees of $4000....for what? No repairs were ever performed. After 5 months, I finally had to get the siding myself at a cost of $380.00 due to leakage of rain/snow which would further damage the house. If this isn't an attempt to defraud an insurance company by Beltway...I don't know what is. I had deposited $2450 with company...they refused to give me a refund stating I 'cancelled' a 'second' State Farm appraisal...I never cancelled any appraisal...when I asked for a 'definite' date of the 'second' State Farm appraisal...I could not get any information or an assigned date. Another ploy of delay. This is obviously an example of an attempt by Beltway Builders to not only deceive the customer with inflated and grossly exaggerated estimates of damage but also intended to defraud the insurance company. Beltway will then refuse to return your deposit when the insurance company refuses to pay out such a totally ridiculous/outrageous/exorbitant estimate and then imply you owe them $4000 in fees.

We signed a contract with Graves to remodel our kitchen and both upstairs bathrooms. We were told…read more(AFTER we signed) that it would take 4-6 weeks for the cabinets to be ready, so this delayed our project until around the holidays. They were gracious enough, however, to replace our stove (which we needed for Thanksgiving) and fixed/patched a hole in the ceiling in advance of the project. So, that was nice. The problem, though, was that 4-6 weeks turned into FIVE MONTHS. We signed in October, and the project didn't start until March. I think in today's pandemic world, that would have been a lot more understandable given supply chain issues, but we were told this was a personnel issue on the contractor's side. Okay, whatever, we rolled with it. We lived with the old rooms for several years... what was a few more months? The remodeling went well, but instead of 6 weeks, it lasted 8 weeks. Again, not really our biggest gripe. We understand timing and how projects can get wonky sometimes. But, the problem here was, there was no communication from their side as to what the delays were and when we could expect work to resume. In fact, every update we received, it was after WE called THEM. We never received a proactive call from the company. Until... my first Yelp review. It was basically the same as above, with some errant backstory from another vendor that got confused into the mix. Then, we had a call immediately from the owner, within 24 hours of posting the review. So, why did our project manager use this same proactive outreach when working on our project? Why did it take a negative review to stir action? To their defense, half of the issues we pointed out (missing cabinet posts, leak from the commode, stain in the kitchen ceiling from leak/water damage, loose fixture in the bathroom). The other half (repainting the ceiling, loose bathroom faucet fixtures, loose commode not properly in place, dishwasher not attached to the counter and pulling on the paneling) were never addressed. Fast forward to today, and we have a leak (again) in the same commode because there is an unsecured PVC ring that was used to raise said commode for apparently no discernable reason. This has lead to a gradual leak that caused yet another hold in our ceiling, not to mention the cost of having the leak identified and resolved by an outside contractor. At this point, I'm not going to be pressured to recant my review. These are the facts and potential customers should be made aware of our experience. Each of the three remodeled rooms has lingering issues, some more severe than others. Aesthetically, the work was very well done, and we do enjoy the functional and well-working aspects. The parts that need addressing, however, have already cost us additional and unnecessary funds to rectify. This has been an overall unsatisfactory experience.
