I don't think it is a stop most people would think about going as if you aren't planning a big renovation, but the design center is more like a art and history museum! The first level is full of modern fixtures with beautifully curated displays. The staff remains to their own until you ask for their help, so nice when you are just taking it all in. We loved looking at all the different displays. Downstairs, the history of Kohler, a great timeline and information on the company from the very start with displays from some first fixtures and where they are today. It was great to see their humble beginnings and how the family business has transformed to what it is today. Upstairs, artist designed spaces. It was great to see the creatively crafted bathrooms and fun to see different, unique takes on bathrooms. If you are even considering a visit to the Design Center, I recommend just go! I had one toilet bowl that was broken, so I contacted them, and they mailed out another one within a couple of days. Beautiful, well made products and great customer support. Very happy with them.

Removing the old parts is time consuming and labor intensive. Rather than being a simple DYI, turns into a costly major project for a plumber, who always groans when he arrives and sees we have Kohler! Latest issue cheap arm on toilet handle lever broke. Should be easy to replace...right? Well cheap nut that needs unscrewing stripped by pliers. Called Kohler...told me to saw it off! Oh yeah...let me get my saw out of my manicure kit! Seriously? This "escalations" rep Nellie was disrespectful, defiant and rude. All she "escalated" was my disdain for Kohler and my regrets ever buying their products!

Thiel Builders did not:…read more 1) Stay with in budget. When costs exceeded budget line item, attempted to shift costs to another line item without telling customer. When costs exceeded total construction bid, refused to finish project. We were forced to fire Thiel when his crew did not report for work. 2). Follow blueprints. Numerous times refused to follow prints as he thought it was not needed. Refused to properly follow exterior sealing instructions resulting in $20K of water and mold damage to basement. When presented with pictures showing details were not followed, tried to blame architect for poor design. When another contractor was hired to repair damage, he followed details, and basement has not flooded since. 3) Pay attention to detail. South exterior wall is not straight. 2nd floor framing was built wrong so that concrete floors could not be poured; thus owner had to settle for carpeting. 4) Learn about new technology before beginning work. Subcontractor installed sloped metal roof. Thiel did not learn about proper construction of vent pipes for metal roofs instead installed wooded dormer boxes traditionally used on wooded roofs. When shown mistake, at first refused to redo. Threat of legal action was needed for Thiel to do correctly. 5) pay subcontractors on time. We used a title company to pay all subcontractors because of Thiel's prior financial history. We did not know that Thiel was using subs for his framing crew. When Thiel was dismissed, we were informed that these subs had not been paid even after we had paid Thiel. We were forced to incur legal costs to send letter threatening legal action should subs not be paid. Construction of modern style, custom home located on Lake Michigan lake shore.
