A few weeks ago, a uncle of mine suspected that their home might have been infested by bed bugs because they discovered that their next door neighbors had them. Not knowing what to do, they asked around for advice. It just happens that a friend of mine also got infested a few months prior (Not surprising since this is NYC after all, the apparent HQ of all bed bugs) and they recommended a company called Bed Bug Inspection Group that they used to sniff out their bed bug hot spots so they would know if they needed to hire someone to come in and kill them or not. Not wanting to hire a expensive exterminator and possibly poisoning themselves killing bed bugs that did not really exist in their home, I helped them out and gave Bed Big Inspection Group a call. My uncle have some strange hours because he worked in the restaurant industry but the company was very flexible with the schedule and was able to accommodate him easily. Soon, one of the inspectors of the company, Susan came by with her trained dog. She was very patient with my uncle's many questions. And boy did he have many questions because he was worried. Once he was assured that she knows what she was doing, Susan went around the apartment saying "Where's the bees? Where's the bees?". Apparently that is how the dog knows to start seeking out the bed bugs. I wonder why it's not "Where's the bed bugs?". Susan was very thorough with her inspection and soon confirmed that his bed, sofa, and parts of the rugs were already infested. My uncle was very happy with the job that was done. At least as happy as being confirmed that he have bed bugs could be. Now I just need to find a recommendation for an exterminator for him. read more

This post is way overdue. In early September I called Bed Bug Inspection Group to inspect my 1 bedroom since I found dead bed bug on my bed. Jonathan came over the next morning with his dog Daisy and did a very thorough inspection of my place. First, Jon did a visual inspection on his own of my bedroom and bathroom and he spotted dropping stains on my mattress. Next, Daisy did a full inspection of my apartment and alerted on my bed and in my dresser. I have to say it was one of the worst feelings I've had finding out I had these dreaded creatures. Jonathan obviously noticed my angst and he stayed an extra half hour just answering every possible question I had and offering great advice. He later sent a written report which I was able to forward to my landlord. Jonathan then made follow-up contact the next afternoon to see how I was doing. This company is amazing. After taking an early morning call and listening to all of my concerns they were in my place in a few hours. Jonathan and Sway not only checked my place from top to bottom, they went above and beyond in addressing every concern and question I had regarding bed-bugs. The fact they don't exterminate or suggest exterminators was actually very assuring. It all started in Amsterdam. I was in that lovely city on business for a week; shortly after checking into my hotel, I chose to do a full inspection of my hotel room in which I found a little questionable bug on the bed. I checked out, threw out my suitcase, did my laundry, etc..(a bit neurotic but anyway) I thought I did everything necessary to avoid a hitchhiker. I was wrong. When I came back to the states, I unpacked and a little teeny tiny hitchhiker made his way back with me. Called a company and after their inspection they said I didn't have anything to worry about. Cut to a month later, I end up seeing an unwanted new roommate hanging out on my bed once again (you know, the kind that may or may not feed off of you for a midnight snack). I immediately came on Yelp and began searching for BB inspectors that actually know what they're doing. Jon was immediately responsive and attentive and came the same day. He spent over an hour on a visual inspection of my room, and then little miss Daisy (kindest dog I've had the pleasure to hang with in a bit) did her inspection, immediately finding the vile of live bugs that Jon hid meaning that dog knows her stuff! This guys are great. I called panicked at 9PM after seeing an invader, thinking no one would answer and I'd have to endure a sleepless night wondering if these bugs were truly bed bugs. But sure enough, there was Jonathon on the receiving end of the line very sympathetic to my problems. I sent him a picture of the bug and he very promptly informed me it was just a beetle spider. Jonathan and Susan were uber professional to deal with--seriously, a pleasure--on time, polite, respectful (even putting footies on their shoes before coming into my apartment), and patient. And the search (which involved both a visual and canine inspection) was done very thoroughly by an adorable, well behaved dog named Daisy. Thank goodness the search was negative. I figured any company would easily run me around $200, and regardless of what picture I sent, would tell me I'd need a thorough inspection. My experience was SO amazing with Bed Bug Inspection Group that I am writing my first ever business review! I was waking up with bites and had an exterminator come in to have a look at my apartment. Unfortunately, he didn't really do a thorough check, saw a red mark on a decorative pillow and told me I had bed bugs. Another exterminator came in and said I had dust mites but my place is squeaky clean and dust-free. I was still getting bit and at this point not sleeping and showing up to work / spending my weekends red-eyed, riddled with anxiety and out of it. Not knowing who to believe and spending time on the internet with contradictive information on bed bugs made matters worse. I needed to know if I had bb's and feel confident that what I was told was factual. That's when I found BBIG. The rave reviews here on Yelp first drew me in and I have to say, no one has exaggerated! After I got bed bugs in my last apartment, I was concerned that they might have hitched a ride over to my boyfriend's apartment so I called Jonathan to come check it out. He and Daisy the dog showed up on time (actually a little early!) and explained the whole process to us. Jonathan hid vials of dead bed bugs and eggs with metal mesh tops in places where bed bugs wouldn't be hiding like the air conditioner, etc. He also did a visual inspection of the mattress and boxspring, baseboards, and surrounding are. Daisy found the vials but nothing else, thank goodness! After the visit, Jonathan supplied a report of the visit and a feedback form. Everything was very professional and was much less expensive than the other services. So glad I found this company! I turned to Yelp after finding a bug crawling across my bed at 1030pm on Saturday night... Jon not only responded within 20 minutes of my reaching out, but calmed my worries by assuring me that he would be at my place first thing in the morning to perform an inspection. The following morning Jon was at my place at 10am promptly, and then proceeded to perform an incredibly thorough inspection of my room, all while answering all of my questions. This guy is great at what he does- he took everything out from underneath my bed so he could perform a visual inspection, and then he brought his super cute canine friend in to inspect as well. Jon even checked behind the posters and photos I had hanging up on my wall, taking great care to be gentle and cautious with my things. Thankfully, we didn't find any other traces of any bugs, so the one I found was likely a straggler, but Jon promised to come back if I had any further issues in the future. My landlord wasn't taking my personal report of bed-bugs seriously because I wasn't showing any bites so I started to look into getting a dog here to officially report. Jon came by with a beautiful Beagle, who was very well behaved. He confirmed that the bug that i had caught (in tape and put in my freezer) was in fact a bed-bug and then proceeded to do both a visual check himself and two walk thru checks with the dog. The whole procedure was completely low impact. Yes he stepped on furniture but he put little bags on his shoes first, and really its something he has to do to get the dog where you really want them to check. The next day (or maybe even that night), he emailed me an official report that I could send to my landlord and a receipt. It was very helpful. I think the dogs name was Daisy, and she did end up finding a sent of bugs in a trunk near my bed. The report was very easy to forward to my landlord who (finally) immediately took action in getting an exterminator in. I also really like that they are no connected with an exterminator so you can trust that they are there just to evaluate and aren't looking to find bugs for a bigger paycheck. After seeing a few odds bites on my hands and later on my kids, I called the BBIG and Jon and Daisy came over the same afternoon. Jon was very thorough and patient (especially when my kids distracted Daisy). Unfortunately they found evidence of bed bugs in our room, and Daisy found the two vials Jon had placed elsewhere. When I found 1 live bug this week, I called BBIG to inspect the apartment with their dog. This was extremely valuable, as I will now not need to go through the whole extermination process and Jon was able to identify the best next steps with low impact to my day to day life. I hired BBIG after getting an inspection from a company used by my commercial landlord (we had an infestation at the office, so I decided not to take any chances). First, I had made the appointment with the other company for 1pm, knowing that I had guests from out of town, but the other guy decided to come at 8 am anyway. How embarrassing. I also had to ask him twice to take his shoes off inside my house. He took all of five minutes to walk his dog around both floors of my house, did absolutely no visual check, and declared I had bugs in two areas of my house (one was a couch where hardly anyone sits). I had not had any bites at home, so I was suspicious of this guy's proclamations and decided to get a second opinion. Jon was a total 180. He showed up at the appointed hour, immediately covered his shoes with booties without me having to ask, and meticulously took apart our bed to do a visual check before bringing his dog out. He took a full 1 hour to inspect my house, and cleared me of any infestations. I waited to write this review so a couple of weeks have gone by with no bites at home at all. My wife and I were on vacation in Thailand and she noticed these bites on her arm which resembled bed bug bites. We called emailed Jon from BBIG and sent him some pictures of the bites but it was hard to tell from pictures exactly what it is. He answered all our questions courteously and patiently even though my wife was freaked out by the bites. We scheduled a follow up inspection when we returned to the states and he inspected us right after we landed at our apartment lobby to make sure we wouldn't bring anything back to our home. Talk about customer service! He had Daisy sniff us and our belongings and luckily she found no evidence of us bringing back bed bugs from our trip. After getting the peace of mind from Jon and Daisy, we went upstairs to our apartment. Best service in NYC. We called in on a Sunday because we found a suspicious bug traveling through our bed. The person that answered the phone was extremely helpful guiding us with questions about the house and why we thought we had bed bugs. We took a photo of the bug and the inspection group offered to identify it at no extra charge! Luckily we didn't need the inspection but we recommend this service to all new yorkers! read more

After moving into a new apartment, I got suspicious bites. I assumed it was just paranoia, but I decided to get a bed bug inspection just in case. Before making an appointment to come out, Jonathan talked to me for a while trying to make sure that there was actually cause for concern. He doesn't want to come do inspections when they're not needed. Well, there was cause for concern, he came he came out the same day I called, did the inspection, turns out I did have bed bugs. So that's a nightmare, but the point is, Jonathan is very professional, knowledgeable (he answered lots of questions about what to do once he found that I did have the bugs), and independent so he has no incentive to push you towards treatments you don't need. Though Jonathan had to give me bad news today and let me know that my apartment does indeed have a bed bug infestation, I could not be more pleased with his service. I woke up with fresh bites for the second time this morning and, now beyond hope that the cause was anything but bed bugs, called BBIG to get a confirming inspection. At first I balked at the price, but when Jonathan arrived just three hours later (short-notice and on a Sunday no less!) and spent more than an hour inspecting our tiny three-bedroom apartment, I feel that it was money well spent. He began by showing us a sample of captured bed bugs so we knew exactly what he would be looking for and soon found indications of an infestation that I never would have noticed on my own. After an extremely thorough visual inspection of all our bedding, curtains, couch, etc, he did a full sweep of the apartment with Daisy, the sweetest and most professional dog I have ever seen. Shared a room in a large house in The Hamptons with another couple last weekend, turned out they had an infestation in the bed. Despite no other findings of bugs in the house, and washing and drying all our clothes before leaving, we found a live bug in our apt. the other day. BBIG sent Jon (inspector) & Daisy (dog) that same afternoon. Jon confirmed it was a bed bug, told me how to preserve it (in case I need it as evidence), very patiently answered all of my questions, then did a thorough inspection of my one bedroom apt, probably for about an hour. He found two stains on a pillow, but nothing else. Then Daisy made three alerts in the bedroom. Jon provided helpful advice (buy contractor bags to put our bedroom clothes in, buy mattress covers and climb ups.) He also said I could call his cell phone any time with additional questions, and sent a report of the inspection the next morning. Just an fyi that BBIG doesn't recommend exterminator services (I think it's a political thing), but I still felt the inspection was worth it as I didn't even know if what I had found was in fact a bed bug.
