We had a terrible experience with Brandon, who was the exclusive broker for an apartment in Williamsburg that we were eyeing. Brandon held an open house on Saturday for the apartment, for which we came down from upper Manhattan to view. Prior to the open house, he wouldn't answer basic questions regarding the unit. The apartment turned out to be completely different than what the photos suggested (even though it was described as a "comparable unit"), which was a little frustrating. However, we still liked the unit and wanted to apply for it. Brandon told us that he'd send us the application. However, the application never materialized, and the listing changed the next day to rented. This was really frustrating, since we had showed up to the open house 10 minutes early and would have easily qualified for the apartment. We sent him a follow up message to ask him why we never received the application - no response, of course. I'm not exactly sure what happened on his end (although I do have a few guesses), but it was a waste of a Saturday afternoon for us and caused us to miss out on other viewings. In the future, I wouldn't show up to a listing posted by this agency. The complete and total lack of respect for our time was really frustrating and exemplifies everything wrong with the NYC broker scene. read more

Terrible company with horrible customer service. My daughter moved into the apartment in June 2017 and from that time until she moved out this year in June 2019 her heating meter was connected to the owner's empty store front downstairs. They never corrected this problem which caused astronomical increases in her bill. MOST IMPORTANTLY WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE SECURITY DEPOSIT. 1ST MO RENT, LAST & SECURITY DEPOSIT. They transferred half of what they owe us electronically but only after haranguing them via phone over and over. I am currently suing them for the remainder of the money... beware! Did I forget they hired a ridiculous management co called Bedford 6 Management. No one returns calls, they are slow to return emails and when they do it's as if you are bothering THEM. The manager (Matthew) never takes the initiative to solve customer issues nor does he call or email back. The landlord (Rad Property) is a slumlord at best. We lived in a Bedford 6 property for 2.5 years. We rarely had any contact with the management company as our super was amazing and handled everything for us. Aside from our experience with a very shady broker who, in typical NYC fashion, literally opened the door for us then immediately ghosted once the lease was signed. When moving out, we asked if an early lease termination was possible. We were told that as long as the unit was rented there would be absolutely no penalties or fees associated. This was confirmed multiple times in writing. After vacating, we waited weeks before receiving our security deposit. Finally, we received an incoherent note, detailing that they were unable to rent the unit at the original rent and the difference for the remainder of our lease would be taken out our our deposit. The organization of the business is scattered at best. The broker (Brandon, lazy at best, but more likely a total lunatic) who rented our unit at our departure was uncommunicative, and never showed the unit on weekends because he was "too sick" yet he still received a fee despite our showing the unit the majority of the time. Overall, the living experience was decent, despite zero updates or renovations since 1973, but when renting, beware that you will likely not receive your deposit back, nor will you ever receive a straight answer from management. Integrity is certainly not in the mission statement of this business. read more

A second star for Sarah, the owner, professional manner and courtesy call to discuss the horrible experience with Brandon. In short, Brandon hassled to get us to view the property despite it being under application, and urged us to send a deposit and documents immediately when we liked it. Afterward, he failed to send receipts. He went mostly dark - dodging calls. Only texting. Then said we didn't get the apartment and "forgot" to give us back our money because he was busy. I don't care if NYC real estate scene is crazy - basic courtesy and professionalism is needed. Sarah has it in spades! Update: Owner asked for a rating change after they have made internal changes in how to handle similar situation.. This is now 3 stars instead of 2. read more

I found my next apartment with the Bedford 6 Management via a listing on hotpads.com and sent an automated email via the website to Sarah, who responded right away to me to set up a meeting the next day. We got in touch the next morning and I was on my way. I tried not to get my hopes up too high as I had been looking for a suitable place to move into from a rather comfortable shared apartment in the city (Flatiron), and the apartment listed (located in Williamsburg proper) seemed beautiful online, even larger (and yet more central) than a luxury rental I saw the previous week. The price was also definitely within my budget, and the apartment comparably the obvious choice among others available at the same time in the area. I had been in touch with a couple of other lovely-looking places in the past but there was always some additional string attached. Upon arriving, Sarah was there on time to let me in the apartment which incredibly looked exactly like what was posted online. I actually took my own photos for reference and found them turn out identical to the ones already posted online. There was also an additional charming courtyard not pictured online. The apartment was clean and safe. Sarah was professional, courteous and happy to answer all my questions. I signed the deposit on the spot and within two days Sarah helped me get approved. Just signed the lease today! Sarah was extremely responsive via text through the whole thing, and remembered that I was allergic to cats so she took particular note to arrange a thorough cleaning and re-painting of the apartment (which was already pretty clean) for me since the tenant before me has two cats Overall, they seem to have great relationships with good, caring landlords. And there is something very endearing and humane about their whole approach, with full-time management contact info for any future needed repairs. I really look forward to moving to my new apartment and feel lucky it will be managed by such a courteous, responsive, approachable, friendly team. read more

This was the best real estate experience that I have had in New York! I contacted Sarah on a Saturday to view an apartment that she listed. She got back to me right away, and she was friendly and professional. I scheduled an appointment to view the apartment that same day; she accommodated me and met me at a time that worked with my schedule. When I arrived at the apartment, she was already there, on time for our appointment. She was very personable and friendly. We went inside and she answered all of my questions. She let me take my time to explore the apartment. She was very knowledgable about the building and the landlord. This was the first time that I had met a real estate broker who seemed to really know the landlord and management, and was able to provide me with important information. She took note of my requests (I asked for something to be removed from one of the windows), and she was able to negotiate my concerns/requests with the landlord. After seeing the apartment, she let me know clearly, in an email, all the documents that she needed, and where to send them. She walked me through each step of the process, and she kept me informed each step of the way. She left no questions unanswered. I sent her all of my documents, and I had an answer that very next day. I was surprised how quickly she worked on my behalf. I highly recommend Bedford 6 Realty if you are looking for an apartment in Williamsburg or the surrounding area. Hands-down the best real estate experience I could imagine in New York (or anywhere, for that matter). So many things that made it exceptional - so get ready for a long review! My husband I were looking to move, and saw a beautiful owner-unit for rent in a great small condo in Brooklyn. Sarah responded immediately to set-up a time that would work for us - and was warm/really flexible when our timing had to change. When we wanted to make an offer, she negotiated on our behalf and turned it around within hours. It's worth noting that we were also into Bedford 6 in general because they show units with great landlords, in great locations, at great rental rates. Back to our experience with Sarah: She's pretty much the anti-broker. A good person, straight-forward, and extremely effective in negotiating on the tenant's behalf (ninja skills: She got us a rent reduction *and* access to a storage unit that wasn't originally included, along with a few other things). It was already the best experience I'd ever had - and her general manner/style only made it better. And then plans changed (Major life-event. Not good.) During a personally stressful time, Sarah went out of her way to make the situation easier, to help us out with the housing situation, and did all of this knowing there wouldn't be a broker's fee. Sarah Sawyer is a unique entity in New York real estate. Renting apartments in this city is never an easy experience, but I've become very used to dealing with pushy, flakey, or unpleasant brokers on top of the exhausting search itself. In contrast, Sarah was incredibly friendly, professional, and very responsive to all questions. She was patient and helpful during all of the inevitable mishaps that come with finding an apartment and signing a lease, and she very much reduced the negativity of the experience rather than increasing it. Of special note was her extra effort to set up a conference call between myself and the property management for our prospective apartment: I had told her that my roommates and I had previously had some very awful experiences with management, and she offered (without prompting or request) to get me in touch with the management of the new place so I could feel more secure about working with them. She also sat in on the call and promised to nudge the management should they move too slowly, which I actually believe she will do (and believing the promise of someone in NY real estate is a first for me). Having signed our lease and readying for move-in (we also love the apartment), I can honestly say that Sarah and Bedford6 were a great help during this move, and that I would love to work with them again if/when I have to.
