There's lots of seating - a patio out front, a couple main dining areas inside, the bar and the large patio out back. It's a classic pub, dimly lit and cozy. It's been around a long time too, dating back to the 1800's. Look up the history of this place if you're interested in hearing a historic tale of tragic murder and even ghosts. It's apparently still haunted. Fun fact: a friend of mine did the murals on the walls, which highlight some of the history. Everything is delicious here. You can't go wrong. The chef is great, the food is fresh and they always put out tasty, consistent food. I love the summer poke bowl and the burger is popular. I'm also a big fan of their greek salad and their "Saladology" salad. Drink-wise my go-to is their Caesar. You get a huge dill pickle so it's a bonus appetizer. Strongbow & Somersby are also in my rotation, as is the Glacier Mule, but I think anything with ginger beer is delicious. If you haven't tried the Consuela, you need to at least once. It was a tradition in my younger years, but then again, when you're young any beverage that comes served in a fishbowl looks like fun! They also have a huge menu of beer, wine, cocktails and even mocktails, so something for everyone. Wing night is huge here. And their wings are good! People come early and it's packed the entire night. Don't be afraid of the lineup, there's lots of room for everyone and tables move quickly. The building (and entire village!) looks like it's right out of a Hallmark movie at Christmas time, so don't get tied to coming only in the summer. During "Christmas in Bayfield" (November) the place is gorgeous outside with white twinkly lights. A must see!

I'll give it 5 stars because it was a great getaway and weekend and the whole town is very friendly! The hotel has charm and the food from the restaurant was awesome. The only constructive criticism is that the second night we weren't offered a way to order breakfast for the Sunday morning, a very minor point for sure. Thanks again we hope to be back!

Even though we had already paid at the Maple Leaf Motel, this hotel was much, much better, and the Irish pub attached is a definite plus! Pros: - pretty views of the square - comfortable beds! - close to everything downtown - beautiful, historic building (rooms very basic, but spacious) - Irish pub attached Cons: - no coffee maker in the room and continental breakfast is not available until 8:30 am. No coffee offered in the lobby either. - needs soundproofing! We could hear a child running back and forth across the floor above us for about a half hour after we went to bed. - the rooms/furniture really need updating. - front desk staff not welcoming.

Issues with this hotel: The front desk for the most part is…read morenot staffed, so you have to check in through the attached pub and have no way to resolve issues.   We booked and paid for two rooms at Hotel Bedford on HotelsOne in January.  When we checked in to our rooms in early June, an additional fee was added to our credit card which we assumed was a security deposit.  After the charge was not removed prior to posting to our card we contacted the hotel and were told they had no record of being paid by HotelsOne so therefore would not refund us. Since then we contacted HotelsOne and they said that they had in fact paid Hotel Bedford and that they would contact them on our behalf which they did.  They called us back and told us to email the general manager of Hotel Bedford with a copy of our credit card statement showing that we had paid for the rooms through HotelsOne and an additional amount at check in.  They have never responded to this.  We have emailed and called and left messages several times since, but have never been able to reach the GM and no one has called us back.   The hotel itself is very dated and in bad condition (mould in the shower, electrical outlets are so old that when you plug into them the cord falls out again). Would definitely not recommend this hotel.  If I could give negative stars I would.

After shopping and dinner in town we loved walking around the garden and relaxing on the porch in the evening. The historical house is beautiful and inviting. (And doesn't smell musty!) My friends and I shared the Lexington Suite. The room was very comfortable and clean. We had a relaxing and restful night. Since we were the only guests upstairs, we peeked in the other guest rooms. They were all lovely. The host, Barb, was delightful. She was so welcoming and kind. The breakfast she prepared the next morning was absolutely delicious. Even though you cannot book directly through the website, it was easy to contact Barb via email and reserve our room. She was really responsive and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Inn the Garden.

When I expressed surprise, the waitress informed me that it's always a buffet and people just know. I'm from out of town and they knew this when they took the booking, so just tell me. We were immediately seated in the 'wine cellar' not the main restaurant. This was down a flight of stairs which I hadn't been informed of. One of our party has mobility issues, so it wasn't a great start. The 'wine cellar' is basically an empty room that I imagine you hire for private parties, very basic with cheap tables, chairs and black tablecloths (not very festive). We were in this room with a large family group with young children and the kids were noisy and touching everything on the buffet table. One group of 3 older adults just left. We stuck it out with one other table of adults and that family. The food was just ok, but as is often the case with buffets, the hot food was at best warm. The mash potatoes and vegetables were borderline cold and utterly unseasoned. The salmon was overcooked and the beef was 'ok'. Desserts were Costco standard and the kids had already attacked them before anyone else even looked at them. This was a complete, dishonest money grab and it's had left a very sour taste literally and metaphorically. I very much liked the restaurant on my last visit, but this felt grubby and mercenary which means I doubt I'll eat there again.
