The Albion Hotel - Another day, another Caesar!

There's lots of seating - a patio out front, a couple main dining areas inside, the bar and the large patio out back. It's a classic pub, dimly lit and cozy. It's been around a long time too, dating back to the 1800's. Look up the history of this place if you're interested in hearing a historic tale of tragic murder and even ghosts. It's apparently still haunted. Fun fact: a friend of mine did the murals on the walls, which highlight some of the history. Everything is delicious here. You can't go wrong. The chef is great, the food is fresh and they always put out tasty, consistent food. I love the summer poke bowl and the burger is popular. I'm also a big fan of their greek salad and their "Saladology" salad. Drink-wise my go-to is their Caesar. You get a huge dill pickle so it's a bonus appetizer. Strongbow & Somersby are also in my rotation, as is the Glacier Mule, but I think anything with ginger beer is delicious. If you haven't tried the Consuela, you need to at least once. It was a tradition in my younger years, but then again, when you're young any beverage that comes served in a fishbowl looks like fun! They also have a huge menu of beer, wine, cocktails and even mocktails, so something for everyone. Wing night is huge here. And their wings are good! People come early and it's packed the entire night. Don't be afraid of the lineup, there's lots of room for everyone and tables move quickly. The building (and entire village!) looks like it's right out of a Hallmark movie at Christmas time, so don't get tied to coming only in the summer. During "Christmas in Bayfield" (November) the place is gorgeous outside with white twinkly lights. A must see!

Recommended: the poutine with Montreal smoked meat and jalapeños added. A perfect meal to celebrate a summer evening in Canada, on the patio if you're lucky! The Albion gets super busy even on off nights, and while the staff seem slightly overwhelmed, they know what they are doing and push out some reasonably great food.

Booking mistakes were made, the hotel became run down, staff not friendly and rooms were rarely or never cleaned during our stay, this year we booked rooms for about 17 people with stays varying from from 2 nights to 3 and 4 nights. upon checking in most room assignments were wrong and lengths of stay were wrong and most rooms were double booked. Our weekend golf tournament was cut short and most had to vacate there room and go home early. As a group we have spent thousands of dollars at the hotel, restaurnat and bar, but the staff did not seem to care. They were more interested in us leaving and their double booked guests paying more money. The ownership at The Bedford should probably look for a new business adventure that does not require "Customer Service". We will definately be looking for a new golf venue for next year. it it sad because Goderich is a very beutiful town to stay in and places like the Bedford leave a bad taste.

We would consider staying here again if the staff was nicer, but the woman at the front desk was snippy and not very friendly. Pros: great location, clean room, free parking, good coffee, reasonable price. Cons: rooms really need updating, poor breakfast options (just white bagels), not very friendly staff.

A mix of the past with a touch of the new... a beautiful mansion turned into a beautiful hotel keeping the warmth of the beautiful wood but updated with modern amenities for your convenience... walking through the front door you can feel the history and can't help but instantly admire and respect the craftsmanship in every detail that was put into the railings, the stained glass and the textures and colours of the walls. A friendly greeting and pleasant experience at the front desk you are given a room key... Yes an actual room key... That opens the door to an outstanding room with all the same class and elegance of the lobby but with an updated bathroom, a king size bed and all the conveniences of a new hotel from the flatscreen TV to the mini fridge in the desk and an Nespresso machine for your morning or evening espresso... whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner you're looking for, you need not leave the hotel, the House restaurant is every bit as elegant as the rest of the hotel with great service, a classy ambiance and excellent chef driven cuisine... That was brought to life not only by the hotel itself but by the wonderful staff that take pride in what they are involved in and reminding me of what service really is....or....what it used to be! Thank you so much to all the staff and I look forward to my return! Zeke
