Unassuming, not-to-be-missed gem of a stop for some of the best pastries anywhere about. Wonderful personal service, too.... From the pasties I've tried, accolades can go all around. The apple tart is tender, rich, intense and large enough to feel indulgent. The tiny fruit gels are a revelation of flavor and cookies manage to keep their own flavors even lined up in a box.... I'm a nut for almond horns and try to grab one when I can, often at the not-quite-a-chain grocery store at the end of this little shopping strip. These are priced about the same but blow everything else out of the park. Rich, chewy, chocolatey and almond-lush. About the best I've ever had. But of course this is a pastry shop in an upscale town and great sweets are to be expected. And then there's the bread.... I really didn't expect the bread to be this good in a little bakery. Surprisingly well-priced for freshly made artesian breads, these are exceptional tasting with a strong crust and the slight tang of sourdough. If you're a good bread lover, don't miss the darker, richer peasant loaf (also sourdough) that's well-worth its small upcharge. read more

Bought 2 chocolate croissants for $9.50 and they are stale, no flakiness and no melt in your mouth buttery taste, with little chocolate piped in. I would expect a whole lot more for that price! This shop sells a banana cream pie for $40. That is pretty steep when it comes to pies, but this thing is...well, bananas. And worth it. It's absolutely gorgeous, and tastes just as good as it looks. I brought it to a party in the general vicinity, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that some 85% of the guests came up to me to tell me how awesome it was (and I think only some of them had previously smoked marijuana cigarettes). I of course pretended that I made it myself, but that's just because those were mere acquaintances of 30+ years. To you, my real friends, I can tell the truth: Bedford Village Pastry is where to get the best banana cream pie you've ever had. And some damn fine apple pies as well. read more

Very yummy croissant... I thought I also bought a bunch of the unicorn cookies, but there is so much going on. Got a bunch of chocolate and regular croissants, and two of the happy face cupcakes for my two little ones :-) I didn't give them the cupcakes yet, but the family we visited gobbled everything up with us. The woman who helped me box everything was very nice. They still request some masks to be worn on the front door. read more

Worst bakery I have ever experienced in my life DO NOT use them for custom cakes.. ruined my sons first birthday! I'm pretty sure they made the cake 5 minute before they gave it to me (looks nothing like the picture I sent them) because the drive home it completely collapsed looking absolutely horrible. They said they have no box the cake fit in and brought the cake out in this put it on my husbands passenger seat, he drove 10 mph home and without touching it and cake collapsed. Bakery won't refund me or take accountability. And I have no cake to feed our party I'm so upset read more

My family has been buying cakes and cookies from this bakery for over two decades and have loved it. The rainbow cookies are always fresh. Every year we would order 1-3 shadow cakes for each family members birthday and loved it. The cakes were always moist, there were three layers of cakes, two layers of buttercream, and two layers of raspberry jam. We bought one of these cakes in January and were excited to buy it again in March. When we sliced the cake, there were only two layers of cake. One of the layers was cut in half to look like three layers and the buttercream was really thick to compensate for there not being three layers of cake. These cakes are on the expensive side, so we were disappointed we did not receive what we have purchased in the past. My mom called the bakery and spoke with the owner and explained that there were not three layers like usual and the buttercream was very thick. The owner just responded, "that's how we do it now." My mom explained we have bought from this bakery for many years and were disappointed in the recent change. The owner did not respond with making a new cake or reimbursing us as this is not the cake we have received in the past. My mom let the owner know we were upset and will not be buying from them again in the future and the owner just said, "sorry to hear that." Below is a photo. read more

I sent the store the photo on the left. I was told that they could make the smash cupcake but that the sides would be smooth with no ridges. That was the only change I was informed of. My husband just returned with the cake on the right, which looks absolutely nothing like a cupcake or my photo, besides being pink and white. I called and the manager said this was the best that they could do and she offered no apology or consolation. My disappointment was met with hostility. If I was told in advance that they could not make a XL cupcake, I never would have relied on them to make my daughters birthday cake. I should have just bought the mold off of Amazon and made it myself. If that customer service and execution works for you then feel free to give them your business. read more

Horrible customer service. I went in to purchase something to take to a Seder which I specifically stated to the staff. The cookies were cheapest for what you get so I wound up with those. As I left, it occurred to me that I should confirm it was appropriate for Passover- walked right back in (didnt even make it to my car) and asked and they said no, this box wasnt ok for Passover bc those cookies were made with flour and since I walked out with it they could not return or refund it! $27 out. Wont be going back there especially with DiCicco's opening soon next door with a fantastic bakery + they know how to treat shoppers. Possibly the worst bagel I've ever had. I understand that this place's core competency is cookies and baked goods - but they need to either stop selling bagels or do a much better job of it. These are clearly bagels that were made days ago and are simply being peddled until their last dying bagel day. Stale, dry, tasteless - really everything that could be bad about a bagel. As we've done for the past 17 years, we purchased a large Buche de Noel. This year we noticed, upon opening the box, that it was only half-decorated. Normally dotted with marshmallow snowmen, various Christmas props, and other colorful decorations, the top and central part of the cake was barren, only dusted with sugar. Nevertheless, we had guests, so we served the cake which was, as always, delicious. However, its presentation was enough of a departure from prior years that we took photos of the cake and shared them with the patisserie chef and owner, who asked to see some proof upon my initial call. To make the point of comparison unmistakably clear, we also provided pictures of other Buches from past years. An under-decorated cake is one thing, but the real insult to injury was that the owner completely ignored our complaint, never returned any of my follow-up calls or texts. They lost a steady customer of 17 years. The bottom line: The cakes may be good, but if you have a complaint or seek any kind of redress, expect this kind of dismissive treatment. read more

Never had a bad pastry or cake from this business, but service is an issue. Over the years I have experienced it several times, but today was certainly the worst. We ordered a custom decorated birthday cake for my son's party. It was promised for 1pm on Saturday. The party was scheduled for 2:30pm. At 1:45pm we received a phone call from the shop saying that our cake would not be ready until 4pm. They offered no apology and seemed to not really care. The solution offered was that I could pick up a plain cake with his name written on it. I asked if they planned to charge us full price for it because it really was not what we wanted. They said that it would have to be paid for at full price. They also said that it would have to be paid for in cash because they were concerned that I would charge it back because it was not the cake that I had wanted. I was very upset and angry with them as they showed absolutely no care at all. They just dug their heels in and said that the cake was not ready. I ended up having to go next door to the supermarket to buy cupcakes. Mistakes happen and we all understand that. In this case they clearly were either short staffed or somehow forgot to make our cake. What really seemed shocking was that they did not seem the least bit remorseful and offered basically no concession at all. Maybe good for pastries off the shelf, but do not trust them to meet a deadline. read more

I have been going to Bedford Village Pastry since I was 4 years old. As a child, their cookies and cupcakes were things of dreams, and as a teenager, their sandwiches and quiches were found in my lunchbag every day. Now, as an adult, I still cherish all their baked goods and travel all the way back to NJ with at least a dozen croissants, bear claws, and almond rings. The service at Bedford Village Pastry is exceptional. The owner and baker, Michel, listens to your needs and creates a customized masterpiece that is both beautiful and yummy. His son and the other employees always provide wonderful service, kind smiles, and attention to detail. Just moved to South Salem from Long Island. This place is the real deal . EVERYTHING I have had here is excellent. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. The coffee was good and they have the most beautifully decorated sugar cookies for the kids. The lady that served me was very helpful and patient as I couldn't decide which cookies or how many--there were so many choices! Great cookies. Too bad they try to rip you off at the register. Sign on the counter says cookies $22 a pound, expensive but they have really good cookies. Same sign also says marzipan $25 a pound. So if you buy a pound of marzipan it's more than a pound of cookies. Makes sense, marzipan is more expensive. I go up every weekend and buy a bag of cookies, one or two marzipan assorted with the rest of the cookies @ $22 a pound. Today I go in, two marzipan cookies mixed with a bunch of other cookies and I watch the guy type $26 on the scale (not even $25). I said to him how much are the cookies? He says $25 because of the marzipan. I said excuse me, the sign right here says Marzipan only is $25 a pound, not mixed with other cookies. Regular cookies are $22 a pound. He then starts to argue with me. I stand my ground and he actually says "Whatever, it's no big deal." I said "Yes it is. You're trying to over-charge me." So he recalculates and it comes out 1.25 cheaper. If they want to charge extra for Marzipan, they should weigh and price it out separately, not raise the price of the other cookies as well. Blatant rip off attempt. Wonder how many other times they've done that to me. So watch the scale if you buy anything there or they'll try to overcharge you by 15%. Every time I come to Bedford I stop here sandwiches are incredible! They bake there own bread so you know it's always fresh and taste it onto the deserts I in particular get the rainbow cookie cake there's is one of the best if not the best I've ever had they also have this little cake it's like a mini seven layerd cake with chocolate frosting on the outside and sprinkles I'm obsessed spent 50$ in the place last time just so I could freeze some treats until next time I'm in the area I don't eat many sweets atleAst I try not to this place is my weakness they put nyc bakers to shame also have had cookies there and they were delicious until next time! Staff is very friendly young man working behind the counter is knowledgeable and nice very expensive but well worth it if you choice to have quality over quantity don't go in there hungry unless you plan on not being able to control yourself !
