I knew that budget pricing likely meant a lower-quality haircut, but I'm not very particular when it comes to my hair, so I booked an appointment. The experience was as I'd expected (very similar to a Great Clips or another average barber), but when I went up to pay, they informed me that they'd increased their prices by over 30% but hadn't updated their website. They showed me a small pile of pamphlets on the opposite side of the check-in counter that listed the updated prices, but most customers don't look for pamphlets when they check in--they simply say that they're here and take a seat. Unfortunately, they acknowledged their mistake but weren't willing to honor their online advertised prices that had convinced me to give the place a try, so I ended up paying what the salons I was considering visiting charged but received a less-than-salon experience. I wish Chance & Taylor had more of an emphasis on transparent pricing for customers who book online or based on the website's claims. I understand that mistakes happen, but having your customers bear the consequences doesn't seem right to me.

I decided to cut (most) of it off! So, I asked some of my mom friends who they went to for their hair and one friend raved about Danielle at LOX. Well, there's already your first indication right there. I didn't just pick Danielle out of phone book (well, who does that these days anyway? Do they even make phone books anymore?). She was recommended. So here is your second endorsement! First of all, book an appointment on their website! It was the easiest hair appointment I have ever booked and I didn't talk to anyone. Very convenient when you have small children who won't let you talk on the phone. Anyway, easy peasy and you get a confirmation via text or email and reminders closer to the appointment too! The studio is in the complex just before the YMCA in Richmond Hill. As soon as you turn (just before the highway), after the bend, as soon as you see buildings, turn in and the studio is one of the first doors. There is plenty of parking. The complex has a lot. They have a small reception area in the front and then a small hallway leads you to the work space. I believe there are 3 hairstylists total. The decor is very modern chic. Danielle herself is a stunning lady, beautiful and stylish and of course, her hair was on point! That was very reassuring, kinda like when you show up to your first session with a personal trainer and you're like, yeah, I want a body like that! She took the time to listen to my 5 different ideas and eventually, she advised me on one that she thought would look good on me. She also told me of an organization, Children with Hair Loss that they work with that provide human hair replacements at no cost to children and young adults who are faced with medically related hair loss. I was able to donate 12 inches of my hair and I'm so glad I was able to do that, so if you are cutting off a good chunk, make sure you let her know before she starts! Also, lastly, she is super affordable! Great price for amazing work! I went back with both my kids. I had to test the waters with me first, LOL. She was great with both girls (and she's equipped too, with booster seat for the chair and Angry Bird/Pink apron-thingy-ma-jigs or whatever you call that thing is draped over you, you know?! To let the hair slide off?!...Mommy brain! My oldest was just over the moon when she curled it after the cut. She said she felt so pretty! Danielle also offered the kids lollipops at the end of each of their visits. She definitely won them over with that. Smart lady! Book now. She books up fast!

Details below First, about me: 1) My hair is straight and notably thick for fine hair. 2) This was my 1st time trying a salon that isn't like $65+/ women's cut. I have taken my probable bias into account while creating this review. I saw Niki (spelling = ?) for a women's haircut. I wanted to trim off several inches to armpit-ish length + soften the edges. Haircut was good. I must mention I witnessed the 2 present hairdressers complaining *in front of clients* about the lack of stylists in the area to hire, and they joked - for a duration that has me convinced it *totally wasn't* a joke - that they'd hire anyone who claims to be a hairstylist just as long as they knew basic color theory. Yikes. So obvs that's big turnoff to a new client + worth mentioning, but the experience was just unsatisfactory overall. Here's the deal. I've talked to so many bubbly hairdressers who are passionate about their work. And I get that a salon is like a family. That's great! But if I'm your family's dinner guest, I expect the host to introduce themself/-selves, maybe offer water/beverage, check in about water temperature, ask about myself, keep conversations with family co-hosts positive and professional, speak of your family to guests with dignity, and, idk, help me feel welcomed throughout? Cool. These expectations - though some were possibly too much - weren't met at Parkway Salon. Nor were some other basic things I'd expect- like an atmosphere where I'm comfortable speaking up or asking for clarification, for a heavy-handed hairdresser to look in my general direction while brushing, for hairdressers to be positive but maybe not carelessly dancing while snipping away, to be asked if I want a receipt, and maybe even to be asked if I want to schedule a next appointment. I could tell Niki was trying to be nice at the beginning and at the very end, though. And, again, I still like my haircut. Maybe the negative atmosphere was from the other client present, or maybe mornings are just rough here.

She's been a stylist at this location for about 7 years. She was kind enough to squeeze me in last minute and serviced me quickly. She was so sweet, professional and did an excellent job with my style that included a shampoo, condition, blow out, trim, braid down and clip in extensions and curl. The style came out better than I imaged and she worked fast! I was out in about 90 minutes. The salon is clean and cozy with a country home feel. Will be going back for all my extension style and more!
