Had another fabulous experience with Auburn Oaks!! I'd…read morepurchased 2 flowering bushes to augment my front bed; and asked a trusted fellow to plant them for me. That part didn't go as well as it should have, the weather turned up the heat, and for as much as I watered: still the plants were charred by the string of super sunny, hot days. Left with no choice other than to make another purchase-this time I was smart enough to ask Auburn Oaks to add delivery and install of the plants to my bill. WHAT a FABULOUS choice!! The plants were delivered when I was told to expect them; and Dominic was superb. THANK YOU Auburn Oaks!! See you next time;)

Coming here's a pleasure because their not a huge facility like Bordine's or Lowe's. Parking's tight but doable you just have to be careful when backing out since it's literally on Auburn Road, which is super busy and the speed limit's 50 MPH. They have a great selection of items to choose from, and prices are competitive and fair. What keeps me coming back is the staff. Their super friendly and are extremely knowledgeable. They also have regular sales and keep up with seasonal stuff like pumpkins, Christmas décor and other stuff as well. They also stand behind their products so if you buy a tree or plant, I think they will credit you if it does die. Don't quote me on that, but these guys really do stand behind what their selling. Overall a fabulous little nursery in a world of big box stores, we love coming here for just about anything!

We found a beautiful specimen, bought it and contracted to Telly's to plant it. This was in September of 2025. Now seven months later, the specimen is dead. We took pictures to the store and I spoke to the person who sold me the tree originally. He told me he needed to consult an "expert". I was introduced to another man who looked at my pictures and fairly immediately diagnosed that there was something wrong with our soil and that is what killed the tree. He indicated that their warranty did not cover disease. He showed me the treatment for the soil and explained how to do it. We spent $90 on this treatment. After consulting with our landscaper, there were several things that were suggested, but here's the most important one. The tree dying so quickly would suggest that the disease may have been in the potted plant's soil WHEN it was planted. The landscaper found it unusual that if the disease were newly introduced to the plant from our soil that it would have died so quickly. At any rate, we will never buy another specimen tree like this from Telly's. This experience really felt like a "setup" between the two employees. We had to speak to the guy who knows how to "sell" this whole soil disease excuse. As consumers, we were in no position to argue. We'd suggest that you be very careful buying an expensive specimen from Telly's and risking having your money go up in smoke in just a few months time!

Recently…read morewe have been checking out several landscaping supplies companies in the area because we need to add mulch to our flower beds and around bushes and other plants. Drake's is probably the one closest to our home and I like to use more local businesses as long as the quality is good and the pricing is competitive. Depending on the type of mulch you are looking for with respect to color, the desired smell, the type of wood used to produce the mulch, and the cost including delivery unless you have your own truck or only need a small amount. Every landscaping company we have visited so far the prices have been fairly close and the variance in delivery charges are also similar. So then it comes down to reputation, cost, and proximity if you are looking for someone local

As far as service, they are very knowledgable, never pushy and they do a fantastic job of planting. Great people! They aren't a high tech company, and if you call and they don't answer, they are probably out in the nursery with a customer. Be patient. I always try Drakes first even though it's a bit of a drive for me.

More adventures on the Roadtrip to the Parental Units…read more.. Again I used the Yelp! app to find a florist nearby. Sadly it's hard to find small shops that provide personalized service. My mother was a floral designer in Pontiac for a long while, so naturally I pointed myself in that direction and found Thrifty Flowers. For those of us that grew up in the area, it was sort of a welcome sight. While businesses have come and gone, the old Pontiac vibe is alive and well, gritty and egde-y. The minute I walked into the shop, I was transported back in time. The shop looks small from the outside but holds so many beautiful plants, flowers and containers within. Logan greeted me straight away and asked if he could assist. I felt as if I could spend hours there but knew better than to get caught up in the flower fumes. I accepted his offer and let him know that I was looking for some vased flowers. There was a small selection from Mother's Day (50% off!) that still looked magnificent. While I love me a great deal, I was in search of something a bit more special. After all, what sort of flowers do you bring to the floral designer?! I spotted the alstroemeria and statice right away - didn't even notice the carnations and roses at first - and said, "That's the one." Logan agreed that they were a stunning combination and rang up my purchase. He also assembled a cardboard base for ease of transport and, I have to say, the vase never even wobbled. For those of you famiilar with Michigan drivers in metropolitan areas, you know that is no small feat! I really appreciated the extra effort and attention to make sure that my flowers made it safely to their destination.
